If you need dental care, I highly recommend going to Special Dental Care for all of your needs. You’ll be glad that you did. Early this year, my wisdom tooth on my bottom right side was bothering me. It had emerged from the surface and was impacted. I went to a dentist for a cleaning and to help determine the problem. He had told me that all my wisdom teeth needed to be extracted, but his office did not do oral surgery. I was referred me to an oral surgeon, but their online reviews were quite horrendous. After that, I decided to do my research and discovered Dr. Amy Wong and Special Dental Care. All their reviews were excellent. Not one bad review in site. I immediately scheduled an appointment. It was very easy to do and to save time, you can download and fill out their forms and bring it with you on the day of your appointment. On my first visit, I noticed that their facilities were very well kept, and their staff was extremely helpful and friendly. My teeth were examined, and the x-rays were free. I do not have dental insurance, and I thought that would be problematic for my wisdom teeth extractions. However, I was wrong, and they were able to help me on the price of my general anesthesia (which I am extremely grateful for). On they day of my oral extractions, I meet Dr. Amy Wong. She was very nice and made me feel comfortable and helped ease me into my surgery. She informed of everything I needed to know and what to expect before my oral surgeon Dr. Moretta arrived. I talked to him briefly before I was knocked out, and he, too informed me of all the necessary information I needed to know. Dr. Moretta was surprisingly very quick in removing my wisdom teeth, and I was glad I went to them for this type of surgery and treatment. As expected, I would be in pain for the first couple of days, but I was only out of work for 3 days. I did develop the chipmunk cheeks, which for me, lasted for a week-and-a-half. My surgery happened two-and-a-half weeks ago, and I am still healing which is to be expected because people heal differently. Steve is great because he called me a day after my surgery to follow up on how I was doing, but I missed his call and could barely speak. He called my boyfriend to see how I was doing. I thought that was amazing that they would express that type of concern for their patients. Steve also called me last week to check up on how I was doing, and I told him that I noticed that food was getting trapped in the area where the extractions occurred. He advised to come in to see how well I was healing to make sure I had no problems. I went in earlier today to have my mouth examined by Dr. Tran. Turns out my gums are healing just fine and she cleaned out the food that was trapped in the back. She also instructed me to rinse with salt water to help with the healing process. I asked if buying a Water Pik would help. And, I was told, I don’t really need to, but if I do, I should use it on the lowest setting because higher settings would prolong the healing process. I am glad I went in today, and I will continue to go there for further dental care. They really know what they are doing. Not only that, but they really do care about their patients and for me that is very important

I wish I can do more than write this review. If you have a small child this is the dentist you want to take them to. My son needed some work done on his teeth and they gave me a fair estimate. I took my son to another dentist and they wanted to charge me twice as much. Needless to say my son went through the procedure and it went off without a hitch. During the procedure they reassessed my son and were able to finish the work under the estimate. Needless to say I was impressed and grateful that they were able to get my son done under what they estimated. So I am very satisfied and highly recommend this practice with its professional and friendly staff. The best thing you can do for your teeth is to visit them!

I love this dental office. It is the best. I am a brand new mom. My daughter is 9 months old and I want the best for her. I started searching for a dentist for her months ago just so I can schedule her one year appointment with the perfect dental office. Bad teeth run in my family so growing up my experience with the dentist has always been something dreadful so I was so excited to find Special Dental. I can’t say enough good about them. The office is clean, comfortable and very baby friendly. The staff is pleasant, helpful and accommodating to any special needs. The doctors knowledgeable and also very gentle when performing any dental work on you. I was looking for a dentist for my daughter but in the process I found myself a new dental office too. I have had quite of bit of work done on my teeth so far and plan to do a lot more since I found a dental office that I really trust. Each visit to this dentist office has been a great experience. I wish my mom found a dental office like Special Dental for me when I was a child…I might have taken better care of my teeth…instead of wanting to avoid the dentist at all costs. I am relieved and grateful to Special Dental staff and doctors, knowing that my daughter will be in good hands and be receiving the best care. I highly recommend this dental office to anyone and especially those of you who have little ones with any special cares or concerns

I came to Special Dental Care specifically to be put under sedation for a troubled rear left tooth that occasionally gave me discomfort. It took me by surprise on the night of Jan. 1 2013 (Happy New Year!) when a deep inner ear soreness hit me as I was going to sleep, as work resumed the next day after a 2 week vacation. Assuming my left ear needed cleaning the next night I applied Debrox drops and cleaning was effective but the next few days revealed the presence of slight soreness that mysteriously didn’t disappear completely. Finally on Monday night the 2nd week of Jan. right before bed I grabbed a flashlight, a small mirror, went to the bathroom and turned off the top light to do a Sherlock Holmes by opening my mouth and reflecting mirror off mirror shining the flashlight to investigate. “Oh (expletive), I have a (expletive) cavity!” I thought to myself as not to wake the household. My head was rushing as panic & disbelief was slowly setting in, in part because I brush my teeth 2x a day for all these years, chew sugarless gum, floss, and use the burning ecstasy that is Listerine. There was no reason for this darkened, evil thing to reside on at least 25% of the top surface of Mr. Tooth. And be the source of discomfort for no less. Finally got to sleep @ 1 A.M., facing an uncertain & most likely uncomfortable future. The dentist’s office is a foreign place for me, never been to one until my 1st visit on Jan. 18 in Pasadena near my home. I went there as it was listed on my HMO ID Card so it was a no brainer to go here. My teeth were in great condition all these years and even had braces for 1.5 years and wisdom teeth pulled out under anesthesia the following year. A nice long run of toothie goodness, shot to Hades. Unfortunately I have a bad gag reflex, which causes me to redecorate other people’s clothing if objects irritate the top rear portion of my mouth. It’s been said this developed because at birth I stopped breathing & a tube needed to be shoved down my throat to provide oxygen. It didn’t save my eyesight with extreme near-sightedness but it’s better to live than not but as we all know all white clouds have a dark ominous lining. Only had 2 large problems with my gag reflex: at age 10 had a “throat culture” where a footlong Q-tip is shoved all the way back there to scrape & torture & torment. Bad scene. For my braces a mold of the teeth with wet clay was needed, the top set was unable to happen as it needed to be yanked out, and the fun began a moment later. Now with visiting a dentist, technology & treatment has changed enough over the years so patients have a comfy time getting teeth worked on, right? Uh…no. My Pasadena visit I set for 7:15 AM so I didn’t have to eat and in case good times would happen things would be minimized. The tooth gal expressed shock that I had never been to a dentist in light that I am *cough* *cough* years old but young bucks don’t have time for such things. Plus I went to the orthodontist for all that time & had the wisdom teeth yanked so that is kinda sorta like going to the dentist so it’s all good. I sit in the chair and she’s holding a huge gray doodad that she wants to place all the way back there. Looks like it’s meant for the mouth of a T-Rex, not a human. Way open I go, in the thing slides in slowly, but WHOA! too far. Coulda been disaster if I had a meal earlier, but we switched to the panoramic X-ray. My kinda device, no foreign intrusion necessary. It yielded the need for a root canal, so I went to the chair & met the dentist who was very nice & understanding. She looked me over for a few minutes but wanted the digital x-rays, “give it the old college try”. We know how these turn out. A few minutes later she said I needed to find a place where I could be put to sleep. Elated that such a thing existed, she gave me the # for UCLA Hospital right off the top of her head as she worked there for 2 years. Anesthesia for regular dental procedures is hard to find, but as I left I wondered that there has to be a place closer than the 30+ miles in distance to get treatment. The search began. The yellow pages! Let’s see: full page ads but NOTHING about putting you to sleep. OK…junk mail ads! One bright spot: a place in Arcadia that puts kids to sleep. Okay time for Yelp to tell the tale, the reviews say nothing about serving adults (discrimination!) but a nice place for kids. Above that page was a “People who viewed this page viewed…” Special Dental Care in San Gabriel. Read some reviews and went to their own website & thank goodness they perform “sedation dentistry”. So I sent an e-mail describing my difficulty to Dr. Amy & next day Monday she sent one back that I could set an exam & check things out. A few days later I was there. The exam went very smoothly yet very unsuccessfully, if such a thing is possible. The gal I believe was Stephanie gave me a little doodad to shove back there on my own for comfort’s sake, along with (to be continued April 7)

I started coming here after getting health insurance through my employer and man, that was the best decision I have ever made. I’m not sure where I have been for the last 25 years of my life. I was probably living under a rock somewhere. These guys TAKE CARE OF YOU. Never have I been to a more knowledgeable ortho office. They walk you through step by step and make sure that they treat your teeth with gentle care. They are appointment based and get booked really quickly. The cool thing about this office is that they never overbook so if your appointment is at 9:30, you’ll be in your dental chair by 9:35. Talk about being quick!

I wish I would have brought my son here for his first dental visit at the age of 2. Unfortunately, I went to an office that left my son traumatized, strapping him down the the exam table for a routine check & a filling. That resulted in him having severe dental anxiety and me putting off his next visit for far too long. I hated the idea of putting him through it again. Flash forward 3 years. After unsuccessfully trying a few other dentists out, I did my research for offices that specialize in dental anxiety. We are SO lucky to have found this incredible facility. Donnalynn booked our appointment over the phone after answering all our questions and addressing our concerns. My son was still really scared when we arrived, but Donnalyn really took her time & gained his trust. She was actually able to get X-rays, too! I couldn’t believe it. My little guy needed a root canal, though, and full anesthesia was required because he was still very scared of having them work on his teeth. We booked an appointment about a month or two out. Now it was my turn to be scared. Anesthesia is scary, right? Wrong. The dental anesthesiologist, Dr. Wong is an angel. She called me and spent about a half hour going through everything with me so that I wouldn’t stress myself out anymore. Today we finally had the procedure done. Dr. Wong greeted us warmly, took her time making sure we were totally informed and felt reassured, and took wonderful care of our boy. Steve went over all the payment info very thoroughly & told us what to expect with Care Credit. He called later in the day, too, just to make sure Elliott was coming off the anesthesia as he should be. The amount of professionalism & compassion the staff here has made a potentially scary situation so easy for all of us. Thank you all so much!

Our family loves the team at Special Dental Care! Dr. Wong, Dr. Lin, Steve & all the assistants are skilled, knowledgeable and caring. They reserve enough time for each patient and make sure all the proper procedures are done in the best interest of the patients. We also love their flexible scheduling options including Saturday hours. My mother-in-law especially appreciates being able to communicate in Mandarin when she goes, making her feel at ease knowing she’s in good hands. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a great dental home for your entire family

Had my wisdom teeth removed here recently ( yesterday ). The procedure under general anesthesia was quick and painless, and I was out in an hour. Dr. Amy Wong walks you through the process, and makes sure you are comfortable. The front desk staff are also very helpful, and in my experience they always call you back or email you back if you leave a message and ask for it. Excellent customer service here

So happy to have found this dental practice! I have received some terrible care from other dentists in the past so I had developed a lot of anxiety about going to the dentist. My husband found this place once we moved to the area so I went too and am so grateful for the excellent care I’ve received. I’ve now seen 2 different dentists here and both were incredibly gentle, patient in explaining my issues, considerate of my comfort, and skilled in carrying out the procedures. Today the dentist even fixed a small issue from a previous filling done by another dentist

The doctors were all very helpful when I came in for pain from my wisdom teeth. Surgeon is only in once a month or so, but I was lucky that I had an appointment two days before the day he comes in. You have to have a consultation appointment and X-rays done before having the surgery, so I got those done the same day I came in. I decided to pay extra to sleep through the procedure and am glad I did because I was very nervous about it. I went in on the day of the surgery and barely remembers anything from when I sat down for the surgery… I remember waking up in the car on my way home! They were great about providing aftercare instructions to me and the person who took care of me, and even called to check in a couple days later. Would definitely recommend

Ok i have a fear of going to the dentist. The sound of the drills and the smell of the offices just prevent me from wanting to step foot into any dental office. However, this is one of the best dental places i’ve ever been too! The front desk receptionist was so friendly and since it was my first time here, she handed the paper work to me and even took the time to explain areas that may have been confusing. The lobby was very modern and homey feeling. I came here to get a teeth cleaning as I’m sure i was overdue. When i got called in they took my X-rays first and the dental hygienist took great care of me and even checked in time to time to make sure i was ok. We all know that the pieces of plastic they have us bite down on can feel uncomfortable depending on the angles. I even accidentally bit his glove during one of part of the process. So embarrassing, but he laughed it off haha. Finally, the doctor came in and examined my X-rays. I was really nervous at this point because i never know what they’re gonna say, but in the end I found out that it was mandatory that i remove my wisdom teeth. I was really dreading it, but it will have to be done in the long run~ When it came time for the cleaning, they were very considerate and checking in on me time to time to make sure there was no discomfort. After the cleaning my teeth were nice and white so yay! 🙂 There was almost no pain at all during this process and it’s rare because at other offices they usually ignore your cries of pain (trust me). Overall, I’d highly recommend coming here for all your dental needs! I know i will be back to remove my wisdom tooth fairly soon…not looking forward to it, but i’m sure Special Dental Care will help alleviate my anxiety when the day comes

Don’t know how else to put it… they work miracles. My 7 year old daughter is a very special kid, very gifted and caring, but also VERY strong-willed. She used to love going to the dentist, but one day, she decided that she hated it, and there was nothing in this world that could make her change her mind. That was about 1 year ago. Since then, she has been kicked out of several dental offices for acting violently (very unlike her, she is usually well mannered and shy). One of the dentist even told us that she needed to see a psychiatrist because he had never seen anything like my daughter’s behavior. We did consult a psychiatrist, who told us about pediatric dentists who specialize in special needs children. We found Special Dental Care by chance while searching for a place like that on the internet When we made the appointment, Special Dental Care told us that they could handle my daughter. We were 90% sure that they couldn’t, but we gave it a try because there was no other option. Long story short, we showed up, my daughter acted like a monster; Amy said that we were dealing with extreme behavior, but she was willing to give it a try. After about 4 hours of developing rapport and giving my daughter assurances and reasonable choices, Amy was able to do everything that needed to get done, AND my daughter ended up laughing and smiling, while saying that she loved Amy and would be willing to go back. What was AMAZING is that Amy could have easily gone the easy (and clearly more profitable) route by putting my daughter to sleep, but she chose the hard, but definitely better (in the long term) route of teaching my daughter how to face this challenge in her life. Took a lot of time and patience. What other dentist would do that? On top of that, the charge was substantially less than my normal dentist’s one hour visit. We offered to pay a tip for working with my daughter for 4 hours, but they refused, saying that they opened up their clinic just to help kids like my daughter (i.e. those kids for whom service has been denied by other dentists). My wife and I simply could not believe it. How refreshing and amazing is that

Spotless setting, tastefully decorated waiting room with excellent air conditioning (a must in this 100+ degree weather), and very skilled and courteous Dentists and Dental Anesthesiologists. If that is what you want, then Special Dental Care has got it all! I cannot stress enough how great this dental clinic really is! The dentists here have a wealth of knowledge and expertise, are very open and honest, and will answer any questions or concerns you may have. A good friend referred me to Special Dental Care after undergoing a root canal procedure at this clinic. She raved about their specialized and unique approach, so I decided to take her advice and brought my younger brother here to have his wisdom teeth extracted. I wanted to ensure that my brother received the best service possible, as he is known to have a fear and anxiety associated with dental visits. Other dental clinics have been unsuccessful at inducing a state of relaxation for him. This clinic was perfect for him because they take pride in specializing with Sedation to minimize any discomfort, pain, anxiety, and fear associated with dental visits that children, adults, and even individuals with mental disabilities (such as Autism) may have. Upon arrival to the dental clinic, I discovered that parking was ample and is located behind the dental building. You can enter the dental clinic from either the front or back of the building. As my brother and I entered the clinic, we were greeted by friendly staff and offered beverages. While in the waiting room, we watched Transformers 2, which I must admit, is a lot more relaxing than watching the mundane news and commercials that are usually on in other dental clinics while waiting to get your teeth checked. We waited no more than 2 minutes when the dentist called us inside the room. My brother started fidgeting around, and the dentist instantly knew he was nervous and was able to calm him down by using a therapeutic voice with soothing words. My brother quickly relaxed and “dozed off”. I waited inside the waiting room for less than an hour for my brother’s wisdom teeth extraction. The Dental Anesthesiologist, Dr. Amy Wong, told me all the details of the surgery as well as what to expect and how to care for him afterwards. I give these dental clinic 5 stars mainly because of Dr. Wong. She had the commitment and heart to call my brother and I for following three days to follow upon him. It wasn’t just any three days that made me happy, but these three days consisted of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, which demonstrates that she went out of her way to care for her patients! I am DEFINITELY coming back here for my future dental appointments! I am truly glad I discovered this place and I feel blessed to have such wonderful dentists to care for my family and me!

I, like many others, have this massive fear of all things dental. I do everything I can to avoid having to visit the dentist. With that said, this is, thus far, the BEST dental office I’ve ever been to. Why should you this matter to you, you may ask? Because growing up, I used to indulge in a lot of sweets and had to visit many dentists because I hated brushing and flossing my teeth. I’ve never had a dentist with as delicate hands as Dr. Amy Wong. (FYI I’ve learned to prefer female dentists over male as their hands are generally smaller and more delicate) The office is situated across from Gabrielino High School, my alma mater. It was very easy to find the office as well as parking. The interior was very clean and the lovely receptionist helped me out on paper work and finding out my insurance information for me. The individual rooms are very clean and the instruments seemed to be of the latest technology. The X-ray technician assisted me in taking the photos which was a breeze! The pictures were near instant and rather comfortable considering my previous other experiences. The doctor working on me was Dr. Amy Wong. She was very kind and explained everything to me in great detail. She took great care to ensure I understood the work I needed as well as the process. From there, I was able to schedule a future appointment for my procedure. The work was excellent. I absolutely hate getting oral shots (I’d rather jump naked into a pit of scorpion/spider hybrids), but she gave me this mouth rinse that helped numb my gums beforehand. She was very delicate in administering the shots and it was the least painful experience I’ve ever had in relation to getting oral shots. The rest of the work went as was described and when it came to insurance handling, the staff took care of everything that needed to be handled. I can safely say, I will be coming back here again for any future dental work and already have referred several friends to this establishment. To Recap: -Clean and comfortable office -Excellent staff and technicians -Superb doctors -Least painful experience I’ve ever had at a dental office (Never a painless ordeal if there are needles involved) Insurance and pricing explained in detail. Full on honest quotes

Took my little girl here after having a horrible experience with her HMO doctor thru insurance. They offered a free exam and x-ray with yelp check-in which was really inviting since I was looking for second opinions since I hated my regular HMO dentist. I knew she had a big cavity in one tooth and a few other questionable areas. Steve, the front office staff was extremely helpful in explaining everything to me and incredibly kind. I hate going into any kind of doctor’s office and being met by rude receptionists and Steve was nothing of the sort. He made my visits really easy and worry-free. The two female doctors we saw, Dr. Wong and Dr. Tang were both very sweet! My 8 year old said they were both nice and made her feel very safe and comfortable. While I was in the waiting room, Steve even bought out a Kindle for my little boy to play with–Thanks to Steve, we ordered a Kindle Fire HD a week later, lol!) Overall, I am very satisfied. Was really glad they took the time to talk (and properly explain everything) to me like a valued client and gave me many options–including cash options which worked more to my benefit. Having been at so many dentists now, the best advice I have for anyone is to run the other way if the dentist you are seeing takes HMO insurance. Since HMO dentist don’t get much for what’s covered, they will find other ways to make you do unnecessary work and most of the time aren’t honest

Finally, I found a dental office with reliable, professional, honest, and gentle dentists in the SG Valley for the whole family! Dr. Wong and Dr. Yoon were very understanding when I told them to treat me like a 3 years old! I was traumatized since 10 years old and since then I refuse to go to any dentists unless I’m in great pain. I gave this place a try because it’s close by home and I heard they have special sedation. I want to make sure my kids don’t have to go through the same experience as I did 30 years ago. They explained thoroughly of the treatments and answered all my concerns, which made me feel very comfortable in trusting them. They took very good care of my 5 years old with teeth cleaning, fillings, and extractions with abscess and the best part is she has no recollection of the incident! If only this place takes HMO because our PPO didn’t cover much and we had to pay a lot out of pocket but it’s still cheaper than SmileCare. Luckily, they work with us on the price. I’m very glad that my family is under their care for all dental needs. I highly recommend anyone who has a bad experience with their dentists and give this one a try. Oh, did I mention this place has the state of the art equipments and the facility is very sanitized. One more thanks to Steve who kept me at ease with my worries while waiting for my daughter’s procedure

Ok, so it’s been a few months since I’ve been finished with my summer long affair with Special Dental Care and I did this for a reason. I really wanted to wait and see how everything turned out. I should have known from the start how satisfied I was going to be with my results and I honestly couldn’t be happier. I was originally searching for my boyfriend because he was having problems with his wisdom teeth and then we both decided to take advantage of the free exam that Special Dental Care was having. I ended up starting my process right then and there with them. First off I am not a fan of the dentist and like others, have always had bad experiences with them. From day one they have made me feel extremely comfortable. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! I needed a few things done. Fillings, root canal on my front tooth and porcelain crown to fix it. I have been pushing this back for YEARS. I was very terrified of starting this process because I didn’t want to end up as a “pirate” as I always joked with them or with having a horrible job done and my front tooth looking completely fake. I brought my boyfriend in each time I had to go there and even brought in my mom to get her opinion. After feeling even more comfortable about this I had the root canal done and surprisingly it wasn’t bad at all. They did such a great job the only pain I had afterwards was actually from the “clamps” to hold open the front of my mouth since it was my front tooth, but that went away later that night. After that I prepped over the summer with shaving my tooth down and getting a temp tooth in… boy was that a process. Getting the “perfect” porcelain crown was a mission to say the least. I must have been in the office every two weeks trying in a new tooth after another after another. They wanted to make sure I felt completely comfortable with my tooth and especially because it was my front tooth. I am the least pickiest person and even to confirm that I actually said one time that the tooth looked good and they were the ones that wanted to send it back to get the color a little bit more close to my original teeth. Yes, I had to drive to lab in Santa Ana a few times by my choice but to me it was worth it. I’m having this porcelain tooth in for many years so I wanted to be happy and show it off and actually smile without being embarrassed by the discolor of it (yellow) because my tooth was actually dead, which is why they needed to do the root canal. In between those months my temp tooth fell out only twice and when I rushed to the office to have them fix it, they did without any questions. After many tries I am happy to say that I love my tooth and am so so happy to show it off and smile big. In the end, my mom her coworkers and my coworkers all want to come here. It’s hard to find a Dentist you love and I certainly did. A huge thank you to Steve, Dr. Amy Wony, Dr. Debbie Chen, Jose and the friendly lady at the front (sorry I forgot your name) But you all have made my experience so great and I’m proud to have such wonderful, caring, crew that helped me thru this experience. Plus they do have: Good parking, A really clean office and rooms, a cozy waiting room, beverages while you wait and wonderful customer service. I ranted but I really wish I could say more! But Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

I went with my family to this dental facility and I can’t believe the hospitality they provided along with the extra care and attention they gave to my daughter while her mother was getting the work done. They have a very quite and cozy place and one the best qualities is they dont double book so only one patient’s famliy members or friends in the waiting room. They have a big screen LCD and put on some animated shows that my daughter was able to watch during the 2.5 hours wait which past by so fast. They also brought out a kid’s futon that my daughter was able to sit and play on while they brought me a few cups of expresso. They were kind enough to give me some professional dental advise and recommendations that were very helpful for my daughter’s dental care. They are professional, hospitable and very helpful, not just for dental needs but for the care and attention they provide to their customers. I am not a customer there but the next time I need work done, I will definitely go there. I like my dentist but I don’t like the fact that he has to run back and forth do different patients while I’m in the seat wating which this place don’t. I’m very glad my friend got the care that she needed and the fair price that they gave her.

I reviewed on their website back on 8/2012 and I fell short on how wonderful this place is! My priority was my son back in August because he went under the general anesthesia. He is 12 years old and never had a cleaning let alone a filling for a cavity. I searched all over the place for anesthesia dentistry and all I could find were places for small children and most had to drink some stuff that makes them sort of drunk. That does not work for people with special needs. Dr. Amy and her team of staff are amazing!!! They let my son sit on my lap while putting the anesthesia and we were able to hug and hold each other as he fell asleep. Where do they allow this? They are very understanding and sympathetic of your needs. He woke up with no side effects and his teeth were shinny white with no complaints of his filling. The best part is he is no longer scared of the dentist and he is proud of his smile. I just had my work done today 12/7/2012 by Dr. Youn and she found a deep cavity hidden between teeth that almost infected my jaw bone and a filling that was not done properly by my previous dentist six months ago. Professional, very clean, gentle, brand new and state of the art equipment. They are board certified in dentistry and have every possible certification on all types of anesthesia for all ages. This is top of the line folks…Look no further because you just wont find it anywhere!

*(continued from April 6 review)* words of encouragement you’d expect a 4 year old kid to receive (which I liked VERY much by the way) but I just couldn’t shove that big honkin’ thing all the way back there so no success on that front. Later discussion began on different stuff and eventually Dr. Amy asked/interrogated me if I have regular types of dental visits but I replied something like “oh…. I…. (voice lowers, almost inaudible) don’t. Young bucks living on the edge don’t find it necessary so things were all good. So we all go outside & talk turkey on how we proceed and that everything under anesthesia could be done in one fell swoop which was music to my ears but because of commitmentphobia I said I’d think about it after having enough fun for the day. Next Monday I called to set up the appointment & Steve said he’ll get back to me soon on what days & times are available. Finally I touched base with them again a few days later for a Saturday morning, necessary as an endodontist & dentist were to be there as Dr. Amy is the anesthetist on that day. Groovy, so I picked a day a few weeks away because mild discomfort was only on brief occasions as several days in a row nothing would bother. Maybe not a good idea to wait so long but I rolled the dice. Before I knew it early March rolled around & the fun began. I had anesthesia once before to remove wisdom teeth for maybe @ 25 minutes so I wasn’t scared so much to get it this time around. What I was concerned about was the differentiation between “sedation dentistry” & anesthesia. Sedation dentistry says that you are still conscious and can accept verbal commands, which was hard to fathom but Dr. Amy said she’s had people who don’t remember anything which I thought was strange but hope the same happened to me. It’s about 8:50 AM when I called into the room. Immediately I plunk myself down into Mr. Chair & take off the glasses & place them under my blankie (great idea to bring a blanket, very comfy) and close my eyes with mouth slightly open & arms extended outward for the magic sleepy stuff, awaiting my journey into The Black. I hear Dr. Amy moving stuff around and eventually feel the search for where to put Mr. Needle. It felt small & thin thank goodness in my right but another one may have gone in my left too opposite Mr. Elbows. I get a nose thing for breathing and she said “You’re going to get a free body wax today!” as 2 suction cups were adhered to me below Mr. Neck as I held in a smile & refrained from laughing somehow. Soon the endodontist & dentist came in, as one introduced herself shook my hand she stated “Your hand is cold!”, I replied “Whoa, your hand is warm!” I wasn’t scared or nothin’ but was suffering from an acute case of Hash Brown Withdrawal Syndrome as you can’t eat or drink anything for 8 hours before your trip into The Dark. Initial checkups begin with the lil’ mirror as I wiggle my fingers for exercise. Then the volume of the air hiss goes up as I lay there & Dr. Amy says “John keep breathing through you nose…” as I enter The Void. Pitch black darkness with no sound occurs, but only for 2 seconds. Then the audio returns and the scene seems to have changed based on the conversation between the crew in white. Like a TV show going to a commercial break The Darkness broke quickly and I stayed still hearing the confab as my eyes remained shut, not alerting the room to my awakeness. I felt something removed from the top of my mouth maybe holding Mr. Tongue in place but I remained playin’ possum as unsure of what to do next. Soon the sound of people exiting occurred and soon Dr. Amy said aloud “Hi, John!” because she thought I was still asleep. Slowly open the eyes and grab the glasses and say “Wait…that’s it?” She nodded as she moved equipment around. Quite in disbelief & very groggy still she stated I did well & didn’t have to put me really deep under as I was I guess an easy patient (relatively speaking). Mr. Tooth couldn’t be saved which is fine, I got to keep it. Too awesome. Also had fillings done which I needed and a deep cleaning. A wheelchair escorted me to my driver’s Bentley & off to home I was, feeling like the happiest mother effer on the face of the Earth. 2 hours passed like the blink of an eye. Best dental visit ever. No appetite throughout the day, only had soft rolls with water and later some soup after the tiredness wore off more. Did the warm salt water rinse too the next 2 days. It was all easy peasy, and words can’t express how grateful & lucky I was to find Dr. Amy & everyone there for not kicking me out to the curb as the thought of my tooth & future pain wore on me every day throughout January and February, but it all went off without a hitch. Also thanks to Yelp for guiding me here, a place close to home where things worked out perfectly

When I entered the office, I was welcomed by a very friendly receptionist staff. Also, the ambiance of the office felt very homey and cozy. I went in to get some of my tooth pain checked and I later found out that I had a few cavities. I never experienced getting fillings or anything of that sort before, but Dr. Wong was professional and very efficient as I got my cavities taken care of right then. It was painless and I no longer feel any tooth pain. The office surely feels like home and it’s so comforting to know that I am welcomed anytime to call for any questions I may have or even stop by the office with any dental care concerns

Of all the dental places I’ve been to, this is the only one I’ve LOVED. I fear going to the dentist but this place makes the visits bearable. The staff, assistants, and doctors are all so nice and genuine; they don’t make you pay for procedures you don’t really need. In the past I’ve had a dentist tell me I need fillings without giving me a chance to ask questions. Here they said the fillings were not required at the moment, but to keep a close eye on those teeth. They even encouraged questions, ranging from the root of the problem (pun intended) to insurance coverage. I will make this my default dentist place as long as I can!

Been coming here since July, and i wanted to wait until i was done (for now)until i have a review. So: Believe me when i say this place is AMAZING. if i could give them 100 stars i would. I avoided going to the dentist for a long timem.like…7 years a long time. 1. Because i didnt have good insurance and couldnt afford it and 2. Because growing up my mom never really gave 2 shits about my dental hygiene. Its safe to say i needed a root canal (i didnt need a dentist to tell me that)..i had never had one before but have heard all the horror stories. I came in there for my scheduled procedure literally ready to puke because i was so scared. I cant believe how good my experience was. When the receptionist told me people fall asleep during the procedure..i told her she was crazy LOL..well..i almost fell asleep. The root canal specialist was so sweet and so gentle. I just love her. They want u feeling zero pain when you are there. I came back for a total of 4 visits..i had a deep cleaning and crown fitting…and all were great. Trying to convince my husband to go now..hes also afraid so no luck yet. But this place…is my new dentist for sure

Special Dental Care is the best dental office I’ve been. I have always been traumatized going to the dentist since I was a kid as well as an adult. I’ve been to many dental offices, but nothing in comparison to Special Dental Care. They pretty much have everything you need in one office. With other dental offices, you’ll need to schedule for a Dental Anesthesiologist to get knocked out and who knows what schedule you’ll get. Special Dental Care is different. They have a Dental Anesthesiologist right there when you need them. Dr. Wong is a professional dentist/anesthesiologist who took care of my deep cleaning and cavities. I was skeptical at first, but Dr. Wong ensure that everything would ok and she was right, I didn’t need to get knocked out and the deep cleaning is painless. If you have deep cleaning before, you know what I mean. Also, no more cavities! Dr. Wong is terrific and has build my trust in her. I will return again. I would recommend any this dental office to anyone including my family and friends. Trust me, I do not recommend a place to anyone unless it’s good especially to my family and friends. If you are looking for a professional, reliable, honest, friendly and painless services, this is the place for you! Also, if you have a Special Needs kid, this is the place for them as well. You don’t have to search for a dental office to schedule for a Dental Anesthesiologist and may be waiting for months to get an appointment. I know because I have one. Thank you Special Dental Care, Dr. Wong and staffs for the best service a patient can ask for!

I highly recommend this wonderful dental office. The staff here is what makes going to the dentist, a pleasure. Very personal and friendly, including the doctors. They really know how to manage their appointments well. I never have to wait anymore than 5-10mins in the waiting room. They handled all my insurance billings in a timely manner and made me aware of any extra charges I would be responsible for. They were thorough with the work they did and really handled me with care. I was able to get my deep cleaning done, filling and wisdom teeth extractions here. Thank you Special Dental Care!

Took my two daughters here, a 4 year old and a 3 year old. The oldest one received a cleaning 7 months ago with the utmost care. She was ecstatic with her clean and was talking about the dental trip like her day at the park., asking to go back. Both girls were quickly comfortable with the staff and Doctors along with the cleaning and work they received. I highly recommend this place especially with kid friendly and inviting staff, my girls are happy and that makes me happy. Thanks again SDC!

Chipped tooth, wisdom tooth, cavities, teeth whitening, braces, cleaning — a few of the services that Special Dental Care can handle. No referrals are needed because of their in-house all-in-one capability to provide specialized dentist services in aesthetics and anesthesia. I was referred to this office for removal of my wisdom tooth. I had a few cavities from the initial check-up and a chip on my front tooth. I scheduled several appointments, and was able to adjust my time with a quick call the day before. I disliked my hour long waits with my previous dental office even with an appointment. It was great to have Special Dental Care see me on time as scheduled and not waste my time! My 3 year daughter can sit in the waiting room watching cartoon. The front desk showed the Sleeping Beauty cartoon at request. Dr. Amy worked on my front chipped tooth and was able to blend the whiteness and sculpted my tooth and took the time to handle it with care. She can mold the shape of small teeth into full-size teeth! I can now show off my new front teeth and can smile big. The office is brand new with Ceasars Palace design details to the ceiling. The comfort of the chair with features of the tilt mechanism makes it very comfortable to the neck. The doctor explained their process to sterilize the tools after each patient use and the machinery is important to their standards of cleanliness. I am returning soon for removal of my wisdom tooth and will need some anesthesia. The office has a dental anesthesiologist so I do not have to be referred to a different dental office for wisdom tooth removal. Even my 3 year old had her teeth checked and clean. Ask for Dr. Amy as she was able to calm down my kid and did a quick cleaning. Besides the services, the office is in a central location in the San Gabriel Valley which makes it easy to find. It’s on the way from markets and restaurants so the drive is convenient. It is located on San Galley Blvd just about two blocks past the cross street Valley Blvd. You can park on the street and there is also private parking in the back. The office staff is helpful to handle any dental insurance, including checking if you qualify for any discounts. My out of pocket have been covered through my insurance and my out of pocket is as much as my lunch. So I am happy with the low costs. I recommend Special Dental Care from the basic normal routine work to specialized dental services

The 5-star reviews are legit, folks! I came to Special Dental Care back in April to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. Going to the dentist is one of the things I really hate in life. I was traumatized as a kid and just thinking about it made me anxious. But, I was about to lose my dental insurance and my wisdom teeth were bothering me, so I checked Yelp and came across Special Dental Care, and I’m so glad I did! One of the first things I noticed about the office was how clean it is. I’ve been to a few dentists where things are really old and rundown, and I’ve had uneasy feelings about them working on me with some shady-looking tools/equipment. But I didn’t have to worry about that here. I went in for an initial consultation and Tanya was so sweet and friendly. When I told her I had a sensitive gag reflex, she assured me she would be quick when taking the X-rays and she helped me calm down. Then Dr. Chen came in and met with me and discussed my options. She was very friendly too and patiently answered all my questions. I made an appointment for the next day to have all 4 teeth extracted. Steve, the office manager, was very upfront and transparent with their pricing and what would be covered by insurance and what would be my responsibility. I opted to have the IV sedation, which is more expensive, but totally worth it especially if you have a lot of fear/anxiety associated with going to the dentist like me. The next morning, my dad took me in for the procedure. I met Dr. Wong (the anesthesiologist) and Dr. Moretta, the oral surgeon. They answered my questions and helped me relax. They took my vitals and then Dr. Wong told me I would feel a slight pinch…and the next thing I know, I’m back in the car with my dad telling me we are going home. Seriously! I don’t remember a thing about the procedure. The first 2 days of recovery weren’t too bad, and Steve called a few times to check up on me. By the third day though, I was in a lot of pain and was worried that I might have had a dry socket or that I wasn’t healing properly. I went in again and Dr. Chen checked up on me and assured me I was healing nicely. I did get a prescription for some antibiotics and that certainly helped. They also gave me a little syringe to use to dislodge any food particles since I still couldn’t open my mouth all the way. After a few weeks, I healed completely and it was like I never had anything done. I’m so satisfied with the work they did. I definitely recommend Special Dental Care and plan on switching to them for all my regular cleanings/dental needs once I have insurance again. All of the staff are so friendly and professional, and I am so impressed with the level of care and service they provided. Thank you, Special Dental Care!

Dr Amy Wong is pretty amazing. We have been coming to Special Dental Care for 4 plus years. They are really caring and patient with my 9 year old son who has Autism. They take extra time and care when dealing with him to ensure that is not scared of coming back. I am unsure what we would do without them. Quite honestly, we probably wouldn’t seek dental care until it was urgently needed which is too late most of the time. We are able to active with his dental care and not reactive. Also want to give a huge shout out to the front office. Steve is always willing to help. He explains everything that has to do with insurance and payment

Pros: – Accepts various insurance dental providers – Knowledgeable/specialized dentists and oral surgeon on staff – Genuinely friendly and caring staff – Will try their best to work with you regarding payments – Brand New facility and equipment – Near the 10 freeway! (Fastrak from Downtown and exited on Del Mar) – Forms on their website (Great if new patient, filled out before first appt.) – Option available to be completely knocked out during a tooth extraction procedure Cons: – Narrow parking in the back (but plenty of street parking on San Gabriel Blvd) I switched to a new company with great dental benefits. I’m 27 and I needed to remove my two wisdom teeth before I start my Invisalign later in October. After going to 3 locations for a consultation on impacted tooth extractions, I was extremely pleased with Special Dental Care. I drive an SUV and it was a bit narrow trying to park in the back. I parked in the front on San Gabriel Blvd. I recommend not having an appointment around 3-4 because there’s a school across the street resulting in traffic from parents picking up the kids. After making an appointment over the phone, I followed Tanya’s instructions and printed out and completed all the patient forms on their website. When I arrived I was greeted by both Steve and Tanya who offered me water and took my new patient forms. Their dental office was very clean, equipment looked brand new, and their waiting room had a Netflix movie running. During my consultation, Amy took xrays and examined my teeth thoroughly. My two wisdom teeth were impacted, one in the upper left and the other lower right. Amy answered all my questions with detail as well as sincerity, explained payment options/dental insurance, and different types of anesthesia. In short, it came down to do I want to be awake or asleep during my wisdom teeth extraction? The latter option will cost you some money since most dental plans don’t cover being knocked out. I decided to be knocked out after my friend described her experience that you can’t feel any pain with local anesthesia but you’re still awake where you can smell the blood in your mouth. After my consultation, Tanya was really nice and gave me a packet for tooth extraction prep and how to care for yourself before the procedure and after. It is really up to each individual to adhere to the instructions provided by your dentist to prep for the procedures and care instructions after. I followed their instructions by not eating the night before and my procedure went out without a hitch. My brother drove me to Amy’s office and with a short wait, I was comfortably lying down in the dental chair (My brother waited in the waiting room because he isn’t a fan of blood lol). Amy went over the procedure with great detail again to calm my nervous before being knocked out. I don’t know how much time passed but when I woke up my brother along with either Steve or Tanya were wheel chairing me and helping me slowly get into my brother’s car. While I was out my brother was given a care package with after care instructions and a prescription for antibiotics (also had gauze, ice packs, etc). The following day, the dental office actually called my brother to ask how I was and wished me well on my recovery. I don’t ever recall any dentist follow-up on their patients, so brownie points! Two weeks after my procedure my hypochondriac self was worried if my gums were healing correctly. I decided to call their office in the morning to discuss my concerns, to my surprise they offered for me to come to drop by their office to check out my stitches after work. Dr. Chen was extremely nice, she looked at my stitches thoroughly and explained the healing process. Fast Forward about 2 months later, my gums have healed nicely and I have switched dentists to Special Dental Care just because they really did provide more specialized care than my previous dentist. Special Dental Care also has better availability where they don’t double book their appointments. Lastly, each member of their staff has their own specialty such as an oral surgeon, general dentist, anesthesiologist, one member who specializes in root canals etc. On top of that, everyone on their staff is genuinely nice and down to earth!

I had my wisdom teeth removed here on 05/24/2013 LATE POST! My wisdom teeth were coming in and pain was becoming more frequent, so I decided they all need to come out! My sister referred me to Special Dental Care in San Gabriel (I live in Covina and the drive isn’t bad at all!) Right as I entered the office, I was immediately greeted by Steve. I checked in and observed the area, the office is really nice and clean and COLD (freaken hot outside) I went in the waiting room, they were playing the Hobbit on the big screen TV, and I was amazed (I’M A LOTR FAN). After I had my x-rays done, Dr. Dang showed me the films and I can clearly see on the x-rays my wisdom teeth were growing into my back molars, (painful). Dr. Dang was so informative and she answered every question and concern I had. Steve was so helpful too! He help booked my panoramic x-ray and oral surgery. He also scheduled my surgery on Friday 8:00am to better accommodate my hectic working schedule, which was very nice… I had the whole weekend to recover + Memorial Day. When surgery day came, I was pretty nervous. My boyfriend came along because he is my transportation home and my emotional support. After I filled out all my paper work, I was greeted by Dr. Carlos Moretta. He introduced himself as the doctor who will be extracting all four of my wisdom teeth. He was super nice! Dr. Moretta educated my boyfriend and me about the procedure and gave my boyfriend instructions on how to care for me post-surgery. Afterwards, I kiss my boyfriend good bye and was taken to the back room. I was greeted by so many smiley faces, which was nice because I was so freaken nervous. Dr. Amy Wong the Anesthesiologist was so nice, sweet and calm, which I needed. She assured me she has good drugs to knock me out. Dr. Dang was so sweet…she held my hand until I dozed off to happy land. Don’t recall much when I woke up. I just remember lots of drooling. Hahahaha. Steve called later on the day and spoke to my boyfriend, checking to see how I was doing. That to me shows a lot of love and care that SDC has for their patients. Over all, Special Dental Care exceeds all my expectations…I’m not that afraid to go to the dentist anymore. My wisdom teeth are gone and I feel so much better. Thanks Steve, Dr. Moretta, Dr. Dang & Dr. Wong! -Jenny

Took my 2 year-old daughter to Special Dental Care after an unsuccessful attempt at filling her 4 cavities with local anesthesia at our general family dentist. She freaked out with them and they told me I needed to take her to a pediatric dentist because they would have other ways of sedating her. I was really frustrated because we don’t have dental insurance so I had a hard time finding an affordable, yet reliable and friendly dentist that would offer various types of sedation for my little one. I searched high and low and ended up calling about 6 pediatric dental offices in LA. After reading bad reviews of kids being restrained in a “papoose” and traumatized, dentists not allowing parents in the room while they are being worked on, waiting 2 hours before being seen, etc. I was just really confused and frustrated! On top of that I found out that not all pediatric dentists offer all types of sedation (local, nitrous, I.V., and general) and I wanted options for my baby girl! I came across Special Dental Care via Yelp and saw their amazing reviews. I called immediately and spoke to Tanya. She was very nice, informative, listened to my concerns, and answered all of my questions. She told me to come in for a free second opinion (in my case a third opinion) to discuss a treatment plan for my baby girl. We went in and by this time my little one was already freaked out of the “dentist” so she threw a fit when it came for the dentist to check out her teeth and get X-rays done. They were all so patient with her!! We met Steve the office manager, and he was so awesome! He had Kindles for the kids to play with while we waited for my daughter to be seen. Their office is immaculate and so clean. When I see state-of-the-art and modern dental offices I immediately think (from experience) that they are going to be ridiculously overpriced. This was not the case at Special Dental Care! After confirming her 4 cavities they suggested the best way of sedating her was putting her under general anesthesia. Steve explained that Dr. Wong is the anesthesiologist and owner of Special Dental Care she would be there to administer and monitor our daughter as the dentist works on filling her cavities. Steve then went over the cost of her treatment plan and to my surprise they were very reasonable. He was so helpful in working with our budget since we were paying out of pocket 100%. They made us feel like they put the health of their patients first before any thing else because they were able to work with our budget and didn’t nickel and dime us. Although we were very apprehensive to put our daughter under general anesthesia we felt more comfortable after meeting and speaking with them. So we scheduled her appointment and put down a $300 deposit. The day of her appointment they were all ready to receive her. They scheduled her early in the morning because she had to be on an empty stomach. My husband couldn’t sleep the night before because he was so worried about our baby girl going under and was even having nightmares! He spoke to Dr. Wong and told her how nervous he was and that he would feel more comfortable administering a less risky type of anesthesia. She was very understanding and said that she would give her a shot of Ketamine to sedate her instead and keep her on an I.V. drip. We were relieved she was so understanding, we knew our baby girl was in the best of hands! The whole procedure took about 1 hr. and we were able to check on her periodically. They ended up having to do a baby root canal and found an additional cavity. I was happy they were being so thorough and my daughter was getting all the work done and out of the way so she doesn’t have to go through this again any time soon. After the procedure they lovingly handed me my groggy baby back and the dentist that worked on her Dr. Chen also came out to explain what they did on her. They gave us Dr. Wong and Dr. Chen’s personal cell phone number to call if we had any questions or concerns. Steve even called us later during the day to check up on how she was doing! All in all, I am extremely satisfied with every aspect of Special Dental Care. Even though my daughter’s whole treatment was quite costly because she had a lot done, for us it was all worth it because we knew she was in the best of hands and we weren’t taken advantage of just because we don’t have insurance. We are small business owners, so we figure this is something we would be paying for either way on a monthly basis if we did have insurance, instead we paid it when she needed it. On top of that I hear insurance companies don’t even cover the cost of anesthesia! They are a blessing to us! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Especially if you are a parent like me who is super paranoid when it comes to the health of your precious children! They will be in the best of hands at Special Dental Care!

I love this Dentist Office!!!! They are amazing at what they do. They provided me with the best service I have ever encounter at a dentist office, their staff is knowledgeable, friendly and caring to their patients. I got my wisdom teeth pulled there about a month ago I was super nervous all my co workers and friends were saying omg its going to hurt telling me about their own experiences at other dentist office. Since I was hearing all of them I began to get nervous when the day arrived I went to the Special Dental nervous as hell, the staff noticed and assured me that everything would be fine. They were so attentive to my feelings helping me feel calm and relaxed Dr. Tae did the procedure quickly and painless, I was shocked at the fact I didn’t feel a thing I was so relieved that I didn’t have an experience like all my co-workers and friends had. I went for follow ups with Dr. Amy I loved her she is so nice and gentle. Not to mention Stephany and Steve they are always friendly and appreciative about their patients I really feel at home every single time. I have to say this office has been one in a million for me I highly recommend them, trust me once you go there you will never fear the dentist again
