I have had many bad experiences with at least 5 different dentist since moving to California. I had a dentist who told me that I could not be feeling any pain when I was in agony in the middle of a root canal. I have had some other dentists that I felt did good work but were not trustworthy and trying to have me do more work than was necessary. Thanks to me getting a second opinion I was actually right on going with my instincts. I have also been in some pretty dingy offices that did not feel suitable for dental work. Thank god I have finally found a great dentist with a friendly, professional staff in a nice office that I can trust. Jaqueline his assistant is very friendly and makes you feel as comfortable as you would be at home. Angela the dental hygienist takes her time and does a really thorough job in the cleaning department. She is also very affable and easy to talk to. The first time I met with Dr. Charlin I was really stressed out and nervous because I had busted one of my teeth. His very calm and careful approach made me feel at ease almost right away. He really takes his time and tells you like it is, no sugar coating or guessing what he means or what is saying. What has happened, what the different solutions are and what to expect. He goes in your mouth with a camera which you can see on a hd moniter and explains in detail what work he needs to do to fix the problem. His many years of experience are very evident from the moment he begins working. He also tells you the cost upfront before he begins the work. The only problem I had was at my first appointment I did not know there was a parking lot so I parked at a meter. I had to run down to move my car to the lot. maybe a sign for parking would be good. I feel very lucky to have found a great, trustworthy dentist with an amazing staff. If you are looking for a dentist look no further. Dr. Charlin is the Man.

I just got back from my Periodontist who made the comment that if it weren’t for my dentist I would have no teeth. I have to be one of Dr. Charlin’s oldest patience as I have been with him for at least 25 years. I have certainly been through a lot as I have a mouth full of crowns and a couple of root canals. (Welcome to genetics my father lost his teeth early as they did not have the skill set and technology that they have now.) I’ve found Dr. Charlin to be honest and knowledgeable. Due to logistics I did try a couple of dentists closer to my residence without success. I am back with Cary. I do wish he worked out of an office in the valley. Over the years I have had my share of emergencies. One was at 10:30 at night (week night) It sucked. He called me back and asked me if I thought I could hold on until the morning or did I want to come in that night. Because of the logistics he met me at 7:30 in the morning and ended up doing an emergency Root Canal. Bottom line is I recommend him highly. I always find it interesting when reading negative reviews, what do some people see or expect. I don’t get it. I guess anyone can see fault. I certainly never have.

I feel like I have been seeing Dr. Charlin for my entire adult life and could not be happier with my smile. He keeps it in top condition. I send my husband to him, too. And, Angela, the hygienist is the best — she gets my smile cleaner then clean and is the most pleasant person on the planet.

I moved here from Boston 17 years ago and met Dr.Cary Charlin through mutual friends. He has replaced about 4 mercury filings on one side of my mouth that I received when I was in my teens.  I thought he was very professional and since have had routine cleanings with different staff members since that time. I have 2 more mercury filings I am going to replace this year and would recommend him highly.

I love my dentist, Cary Charlin! They have given me top notch service for over 20 years, the staff is caring and wonderful, no prolonged waits–they are ready for me when I arrive–I give them the highest recommendation for anyone on the westside who wants and needs excellent professional dental services.

Straight-up, Dr. Charlin is the BEST. When I moved to LA last year, I spent weeks trying to find a dentist’s office that didn’t feel scammy or hustle-y, and was so relieved when I finally found this place. Amanda, who handles the appointments at the front desk, remembers everything and makes you feel instantly comfortable. The whole staff is experienced and thorough (get a deep cleaning, it’s tough but so worth it) and goes out of their way to squeeze me in when I call last minute. And they’re always up front about everything, no surprises. Dr. Charlin has been doing this forever and is awesomely straightforward. I love that he’s conservative about operations — he spotted a rogue wisdom tooth (which most dentists probably would’ve yanked right away) and gave it a few months to grow in before making a decision on extraction. Anyway, if you’re new to LA and need a dentist’s office that doesn’t feel like a total business, go here. You’ll feel at home and taken care of.

I’m a dental chicken and Dr. Charlin is the best! Dr. Charlin has been my dentist for more than 15 years. He’s incredible. I’ve had a ton of work done and have been more than happy with the results. His staff is equally skilled- I have been seeing Angela as my hygienist for the same amount of time. They both keep my smile sparkling From crowns, root canals, fillings, whitening…the list goes on. I trust Dr. Charlin and he cares about his patients.

Today was great, first a cleaning by Angela with tender loving care, then Dr. Cary and assistant Jaclynn did the heavy lifting to prepare one of my back molars for a crown…. NO PAIN (always good) and they kept the mood light as they went from one procedure to another during the crown prep. I will see them in 2 weeks to get the permanent crown…. can’t wait!

Dr Charlin is exceptional. I’ve already suggested him to many of my friends and will continue to do so. I had an emergency tooth extraction done at 9pm, well past normal business hours, and he came across the city to see me and to help me. This wont happen with 90% of other dentists in the area. He clearly has a love for his profession and many of my other dentists in the area simply were focused on ‘giving me the best deal’, which actually was minuscule; and then you still get shotty work. Dr Charlin is a member of the old vanguard of dentistry that’s hard to find in this area. And really does care for the work that he does, all at a perfectly reasonable rate. He has a great staff, and a well maintained and professional office. What else can you say? Oh thats right, when it comes to dental work – he is a perfectionist. And he’ll get the job done quick, easy, PAINLESS, and professionally. If you’re looking for a dentist, look no further.

Very friendly staff. Clean office, and excellent service! There was no wait at all. Most people hate going to the dentist but I’m pleased to say I will happily be going back. If you want a great dental experience, do yourself a favor and go here. If you live on the west side you know how annoying parking can be. Another perk is that they have a big parking lot in the back that’s free. YES FREE. No validation ticket, no cutoff times, and no tipping.  I just came in for a cleaning from a deal I found on living social.  I had yet to find a dentist since moving to LA 7 years ago, mainly because it wasn’t a priority.  I will now make it a priority to get my teeth cleaned regularly because my experience was a good one. There is no price you can put on a friendly staff and great customer service in LA.  Thanks for an awesome experience!

Visited DR. Charlin for the first time today.  The staff was very nice and the mood of the entire office is friendly and welcoming. The facility is very clean and well kept.  Free parking is conveniently located behind he building. They took their time to make sure everything is done right. The DR. Is very thorough and patient with a great chair side manor. I look forward to working with this team for years to come.

Dr. Charlin is THE BEST! In addition to being highly experienced and up-to-date on all the latest techniques/procedures, Dr.Charlin is also a caring perfectionist. I recall the time when I had a dental emergency and he came to my rescue by opening his office on a holiday weekend to give me a temporary fix. His exceptional expertise is recognized by his peers by his appointment to a peer review panel which follows up on complaints regarding the quality of other dentists’ work and his professorship at UCLA

Recently, I had a dental emergency. It was late Friday evening, when I broke a tooth and was in horrible pain. My regular dentist was unavailable on weekends. A friend recommended that I call Dr. Charlin. Not only was I comforted and reassured that a remedy was near, but he offered to meet me at his office, early the next morning. (On a Saturday) He was quite personable, explained all my options and dental needs. A short time later and pain free, I was sent on my way. The following evening I received a call from Dr. Charlin, to see if the pain had subsided. I just read some other posts on this site in reference to Dr. Charlin and have difficulty believing we are writing about the same man. He was nothing but professional, knowledgeable, courteous and did everything to meet my needs. Dr. Charlin, I thank you for being like the old time dentist I remember from when I was a child. Dr. Charlin has been my dentist for over 20 years and I totally love him! I hear my friends complain about poorly done root canals and fillings that fall out, and I say a silent prayer that my wonderful dentist never retires! I can’t recommend him and his staff highly enough. Excellent work at great value. Also, he knows how much I hate pain, and is very gentle!

I had my first appointment with Dr. Charlin and his staff recently and I was very impressed. Not only is his staff incredibly sweet and gentle, but so is the doctor himself. I would not be too bothered by the negative posts on here. My experience was top-notch. I’ve been a bit put off by some previous dental experiences in the area and I really felt taken care of here. I tend to go with my gut and mine says this is a good practice. It also hasn’t really been mentioned on here that this is a holistic practice, so no mercury fillings here if you are one to be concerned with those things. It can be very hard to find good holistic dentists who accept insurance, so this a credit to them as well. I will be recommending this office to my friends, for sure.

I have been a patient of Dr. Charlin’s since 1989 with a small break when we moved out of state. I went to him because he was in the building that I worked in and aside from being out of state my husband and I have been seeing him ever since we moved back. We live in the Valley so he is not conveniently located near us but there is no other dentist we would trust our teeth to. His staff is always warm and friendly and his hygienist Angela is AMAZING! I cannot recommend him highly enough. He listens to his patients and does not dismiss or belittle their concerns or anxieties over treatment. He does care and I, too have seen him when I cracked a tooth and needed an emergency root canal. He was great and I survived with very little to no pain. He has made dentistry something to no longer be afraid of.

As a dental “chicken” I can say that in the past, I have begrudgingly gone to dental offices with great fear and trepidation. That all changed when I first walked into Dr. Charlin’s office some 12 years ago. No longer do I fear the “chair” but I actually look forward to my checkups. I find Dr. Charlin and his staff to be courteous, prompt, and professional. Furthermore, I always feel like a member of the family when I visit. I truly appreciate the bright smile Angela the hygienist gives me with her cleanings, and I must say that Dr. Charlin is quite the miracle worker when it comes to fixing my my cavity prone mouth. He has given me root canals that were not as painful as I was lead to believe and crowns that look natural and as close to perfection as I can imagine. On top of all of this, he and his staff have done an exemplary job at keeping my son’s teeth healthy and clean over the last few years. I have nothing but praise to offer Dr. Charlin and would recommend him to anyone.

I found Dr. Charlin after having a bad experience at another dentist, and have since been a patient with his practice for over five years. I’m moving out of state, and I can only hope to find such a great dentist where I’m going. Dentists are like mechanics — when you find a good one you don’t want to let them go! One thing I really appreciate about this practice is that Dr. Charlin is a straight-shooter. He tells you when you need something done, he tells you when you can put something off, and I’ve never once felt like he was trying to upsell me on procedures or pressure me to do anything cosmetic. You can tell that your health is his first priority. Dental work is never the most pleasant thing in the world, but he’s always done his best to work fast and make sure I’m comfortable. He’s also always been attentive whenever I call the office with questions, like asking for advice about switching insurers. I’d be remiss in this review if I didn’t also mention Angela, his hygienist. She’s a total sweetheart and makes my cleanings go by in the blink of an eye 🙂 (Despite the similarity in name to prior reviewer Laura B., I’m someone different, a patient, not a former employee).

I just stumbled onto these reviews after googling Dr. Charlin’s telephone number. I can’t believe what I’m reading. I’ve been going to Dr. Charlin’s for the last five years. Dr. Charlin is by far the best dentist I’ve been to in California. I’ve been to at least five dentists prior to seeing him and had all kinds of monkey stuff done to my mouth by previous dentists. Dr. Charlin has done an excellent job in fixing other dentists mistakes as well as proactive steps. Dr. Charlin was recommended to me by my co-workers in the Trident complex where his old office was. Many people there used him and I never heard one complaint. The office told me they left the old location because the new lease was way too expensive. I guess they wouldn’t tell me if it was because of complaints, but that’s straight from the horse’s mouth and not hearsay. Second, I’ve seen him wash his hands and I guarantee he uses gloves along with the rest of his staff. The review from Karen T. sounds like complete nonsense. I wouldn’t go there if I noticed any hygiene issues. His current (temporary) place is on Pico and his new establishment will be on Wilshire. The hygenist who does the normal cleanings and deep cleanings is absolutely excellent and extremely nice and gentle at the same time. I also know who Mister X. is talking about and that lady is no longer there. But, I’ve had that lady do x-rays and other minor things and although not as skilled as the others, didn’t leave me worried in any way and was also gentle and nice. There is always an upsale speech (teeth whitening, braces, veneers). But, what dentist doesn’t do that? I’ve never had teeth whitening done with them (or anywhere). However, for fillings, crowns, etc., I wouldn’t go anywhere else, even if I had to drive for hours to get there. I’ve got crowns and fillings from Charlin and they are perfect from second they are put in place. No sanding, buffing, etc. to make them line up with your other teeth, it’s an immediate perfect fit and you can’t tell they are not your real teeth. I’ve never had one fail (fall out, break) either.

Been going to Dr. Charlin for 15 years and highly recommend him, Angela, and Amanda for great work at fair prices.  I always feel at ease in their care.  Dr. Charlin is an outstanding professional and a genuinely warm and friendly guy, as is Angela, and Amanda is super nice.

I first came to Dr. Charlin in mid 2017 after being referred by my husband’s coworker. I had a crown put in by another practice that was giving me issues, and Dr. Charlin has been a huge help in correcting my dental woes. Their office is conveniently located only a short drive away, the staff is super friendly and always welcoming when I walk into the room. Service is outstanding. There are rarely moments that I have to wait long before I’m escorted to the back and into the chair. I was really hesitant to visit another dental office after dealing with so much back and forth from my previous dentist, however Dr. Charlin really eased my mind. He’s got a great bedside manner, is straightforward and conservative when he can be, and overall a skilled professional in his line of work. I feel comfortable when I visit, which is quite the change from where I was almost a year ago. Good value for the work done, I have nothing but praise for this practice.

I just got back from Europe.. Two days prior to leaving (Friday late afternoon) I had a toothache which had gotten progressively worst during the day. I called Dr. Charlin’s office at 7:00 pm. (I kept waiting for it to get better on its own. You know how that goes) I had been seeing Dr. Charlin over 25 years. I assume I was one of his first patience. I left a message and within 15 minutes Dr. Charlin called me back. He had asked me to meet him at his office that evening. I told him let’s see how it is tomorrow. He tried to convince to come in Friday evening, I believe I caught him in a restaurant.. I told him I wanted to wait until tomorrow. Saturday morning came and I was now in excruciating pain. I called the office again at 6:00 in the morning. He met me at his office at 8:30. I had a broken tooth and upon xray’s I needed a root canal. He performed it immediately. No fun. Once again he bailed me out. With the Codene he gave me I actually slept well on the flight and by the time I arrived Monday morning my mouth was 80%and 100% by Tuesday. Thank you Dr. Charlin! (If you actually read this stuff.)

I have been with this dentist for years and now I have all my kids going to see him and our wonderful oral hygienist as well. I HIGHLY recommend these folks for all dental related needs, including teeth whitening.

Been going to Dr. Charlin for 14 years. A few years ago, I moved to OC but still drive up for appointments. Doc is easy to talk to about your situation, common sense approach to problems and a straight shooter. Friendly staff and they do a good job making you feel comfortable and they try to accommodate your schedule. Modern dentistry/good value.

Like many people’s first visit to a new dentist, mine was triggered by an emergency. 4 years ago I had recently & hastily relocated from the East Coast and although gathered a couple of references from my coworkers, I decided to choose Dr. Cary Charlin because of the proximity to my office, across the street on West Olympic Blvd. I had discovered that in Los Angeles is very relevant to have easy access to your doctors. Currently his office in on Wilshire & Westgate Street and the accessible parking lot in building as well as the expansive views from each chair still make every visit very convenient and pleasant. Back then and still now I have always being pleased with the gracious manners of receptionist. Greeted as a new friend then, greeted as an old friend now.  That they put you at ease at once – knowing that 99% of us mortals are filled with enormous anxiety when stepping at such a place – is an important feature of any dental office that should never be taken for granted. Believe me; it is not taken for granted here. Punctuality is another extremely important attribute when I evaluate any professional service. Nothing I hate most than when a doctor indirectly tell you that his or her time is more valuable that yours by making you wait. This is bad characteristic that not only show a lack of respect for the patient but a total lack of professionalism. I praise myself of being extremely punctual and Dr. Charlin or any of his personal has ever failed to be there, impeccably on time, on the early hours of the morning (allowing me to be back to my office on time). They multitask, like in many other professional service offices; but when it comes to the task of contacting the dental insurance companies (I have dealt with 3 so far), everything has always been clarified in the spot or have been properly followed up. Any discrepancy in any bill has also been corrected swiftly. In one occasion, my treatment was so complicated, that the premium I need to pay was too high, so I inquired about an alternative for a payment plan and without hesitation I was offered one. My first experience during that first visit was with the wonderful Angela, his loyal hygienist who still represents – in my opinion – the best compendium of professional competence & personal sweetness I have seen in any hygienist. Not only she does perform the most comprehensive cleaning but she does it with a delicacy that I found particularly remarkable; often complemented with the soundest advices & encouragement. She is absolutely marvelous for adults and I have no doubt she must be the best for kids. She has managed to make me look forward to going to a dentist, if such feeling can exist! Esperanza – Dr. Charlin’s assistant – is another skillful sweetheart whose also helps smoothen the familiar trauma associated with a dental work. I like to comment on how she carries the tortuous task of taking X-rays (why this has not evolved to the 21st century?). She is filled with patience when dealing with the maligned gaggling effect. Always equipped with a smile, waiting to repeat the procedure until you are ready. I like to think of Dr. Charlin as the ideal dentist for guys. He is a gentleman with whom you can have any conversations of any topic but on whom you can vest a great dose of trust. I always come out with the certainty that what was performed it is going to work and that the best materials have been used. Some people might be turned off by his frankness but I do believe that same honesty is paramount when receiving the assessment of your dental condition. Straight talk can be disorienting for some but very reassuring for many others. It is for me. Over the course of the 2 years I have gotten two major dental works and I was absolutely impressed with the quality – color, resistance, comfort, etc. – of each piece (4-tooth bridges). I did it one first, and returned for the second a year after once I confirmed that all attributes of the first one were up to my expectations. During each procedure, I have confirmed an intrinsic pursue of perfection. I have come to nickname it the “tap-tap factor”: words he repeatedly asked you when assessing the comfort of the work done. Like everything in life, reviews are relative. As long as it continues to work for me – regardless of other’s opinions – I will continue to patronize Dr. Cary Charlin. This for the time being is my personal opinion of him and his staff.

Dr. Charlin has saved my life! If it wasn’t for him is never go to the dentist. He’s the best. I’m such a chicken when it comes to dental work, and he always takes such good care of me. Dr. Charlin is the best dentist I’ve been to in California. He has a great team of friendly and gentle hygienists, and gave me the most stunning filling you could imagine. The kind that you can’t tell is a filling! He also teaches dentistry at UCLA, which lets you know that he is the expert of experts. If you need a great dentist, Dr. Charlin is your man! I have recommended Dr. Charlin to all my friends and they thought he was great, too.
