Lakewood is very fortunate to have the experience and neighbor like chair side manner of Dr Beadle and Dr. Slaughter. These are two great dentist for the young and young at heart! We absolutely LOVE Lakewood Family Dental. Have been coming here for 30yrs and now my littles come here too! Jessie the hygienist made my 5yr old feel so comfortable and at ease for his first time at the dentist! Cathy was amazing with my 10yr old too! I originally came here for a second opinion, after finding the practice on yelp with great ratings, and he dentist was very thorough and friendly, and was willing to explain anything i had and answer any questions. The staff was also incredibly nice, all of them, and very clear on what was covered and how much it would cost. I had to get one filling, which was overall a pretty pleasant experience since they even lent me noise cancelling headphones to make my experience much more relaxed with music, really appreciated it. There was also a very minimal wait, plenty of parking, free water and coffee, and free reusable grocery bags! I’ve since been back in order to have the filling a bit adjusted since I was having some pain, and they were very gracious in scheduling an appointment for that quickly and at no charge. Best customer service I’ve ever seen at a dentist!

Dr. Slaughter and his team are absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in the door you feel safe and comfortable. They have taken extra careful precautions during this difficult time. For my first post COVID 19 lock-down dentist visit I had no concerns. Communication and expectations were clear and I felt comfortable throughout my visit. There are some new pieces of equipment that are being used, but that is expected and welcomed. My hygienist (Michelle) was friendly, professional and efficient in my exam and got me on my way on schedule.

Some words to describe this practice would be: friendly, gentle, accommodating, and comfortable. Dr Slaughter is very straight forward and works well with his staff. His assistant Norma is very kind and gentle. I got the best room in the house. It had a nice view of the sky and had lots of sunlight. The clinic is an old school building with great character. I told Dr Slaughter I had been petrified of the dentist as a kid and he took the time to ask why even on a day when they squeezed me in. He also called then texted to check on me that evening. I am a chiropractor and I have already referred 2 people their way. From a fellow Dr.’s perspective it is reassuring that they aren’t trying to up sell you on a root canal or other service not needed like other dentists I have heard of in Dallas. Thanks!

I had not been to a dentist in quite a while and after chipping a tooth last week, I knew it was time to get my butt in gear. Based on Krista B.’s review and all the positive reviews Lakewood Dental received, I decided to give them a try. I was not disappointed. What a great crew, from Sonny to Norma and Dr. Slaughter, just a bunch of positive people. I like the fact that Norma knew the history of the company, when the building was built to the original owners history as well. But mainly I felt confidence in Dr. Slaughter, who was conservative in his approach to my dental needs, he didn’t try to “sell me” on procedures that didn’t deem important. That is a rare quality in this day in age. I think I have found a great new dentist.

Dr Reid Slaughter: My recent dentist, Dr Stanley Poll, on Garland Rd. recently retired. His replacement, don’t even remember the man’s name, came in from Waco, to take his place. He is here only two days a week, Monday and Tuesday. My mouth, like the rest of me, is very complex to work on. Been calcified since birth. Dr. Slaughter took over my case from day One, and his Asst, and the professionals they are, never never missed a beat on me. Never even waited a minute in the lobby. What a breath of fresh air. I would rate him five star, and I am very hard to please. I also do refer him to CLFNA, my neighborhood association when referral requests are there. I have been a patient at Lakewood Family Dental since I moved to East Dallas back in 1990. My husband, children, mother, and father-in-law also get there dental care there. Appointments are usually available within two weeks. The staff has low turnover which in my eyes, is a good sign of a well-run practice. After Dr. Ridgeway retired, we started seeing Dr. Slaughter. He is pleasant, careful and knowledgable. I am not squeamish about dentists, but for those who are, I can attest that the hygienists and dentists are gentle and very capable.

First impressions – GREAT and it just got better from there. The building is cool, the interior, the waiting room, lovely. Really beautiful and peaceful. The staff, friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I just went in as a new patient this week and was blown away by how great they are. I’m no longer going to be avoiding the dentist. I had been considering trying to get into the Baylor Dental School as a patient (as I don’t have dental insurance)… but thank gawd I didn’t go that route. Nothing personal against them, I have no idea, but what I needed done was rather tricky (not to mention time-sensitive, so that wouldn’t have worked anyway) and I was so happy to have a seasoned professional tending to me. I really felt like I was in such great hands. I was relaxed the whole time I was there. Dr. Slaughter did an AMAZING job. He’s so great. And Norma was great and on and on. When I sat in the exam chair getting ready for my procedure, Norma offered me a blanket. Yes, please! She pulls out this luxurious chenille blanket. Cozy. Then she asks if I want headphones, offers me music but I have something on my phone I want to listen to. Hands me a pair of softly padded over-the-whole-ear headphones. Then, would I like nitrous? Don’t know… never had it… what does it cost, I ask? Nothing, it’s complimentary if you’d like it. Ummm… ok! why not? 🙂 Seriously you guys, I felt like I was flying first class. Then Dr. Slaughter worked on my tooth. I needed a filling and a crown, and I felt nothing. It was easy-peasy and I think these guys are just THE BOMB. Do not fear the dentist! I must admit, I suffer from Dentist Phobia, and have put off going to the dentist for years. I’m not afraid of needles or even pain. It’s just a long-standing emotional aversion, due to years of bad experiences with dentists. Luck of the draw, I suppose. I chose Lakewood because their website addressed the issue of fear, and they were in-network, so I gave them a try. I cannot tell you how wonderful these folks are. Gentle, fun and understanding. We tried nitrous oxide, for the first time in my life. Why didn’t all the previous dentists even offer it? Well, turns out, nitrous has no effect on me, so it wouldn’t have mattered, so on my subsequent visits, we went without, but it was okay, because the doctor and staff were so kind and gentle, I didn’t need drugs. They put you at ease. Yes, some of the procedure involved some necessary, minor “zings,” but they were right there to help me through it. The never told me to “stop complaining” when I felt fear or a little discomfort. Then, my company changed insurance and Lakewood was no longer in-network. I love these folks so much, I went with the out-of-network rates, because they are so wonderful with folks who suffer a phobia like mine. I would recommend them to anyone, especially with folks who suffer a phobia. Just tell them up-front, “I have a phobia,” and they will do everything to make your experience a good one. Just a fantastic clinic. Thank you Lakewood!

I’ve only completed one or two other yelp reviews but I feel compelled to write this because this dental practice is incredible. From the moment you walk in the door until you leave with your new toothbrush you are treated with smiles and kindness that is unparalleled. After my first visit I even got a thank you note from them welcoming us to their practice! The hygienist was friendly and extremely gentle, something I’ve not always experienced. So I dont do this offten but I had to just say how wouderful this dental place is. I had been looking for a new dental office so I went on yelp and found them. They had really good reviews and comments and decided to check them out. I was not dissapointed at all and let me just say for a person who hates the dentist I felt at peace and calm they really made sure of that. The dental assistant was the most amazing lady she was really carful and took care of me with care to make sure I wasnt in much pain. (but of course its a dentist visit it has to hurt some what..lol) Dr. Reid Slaughter was the best he explained to me what work had to be done on my teeth and why I had to do it. He left the rest up to me to decide what I wanted to do first. He even took a picture of a tooth I had broken and showed it to me that was cool. Just saying for a person who hated visiting the Dentist I know I have nothing to worry about Im in good hands!! 🙂
