I’m just going to cut to the chase and start this review by stating how absolutely magnificent Dr. Cook and the entire staff at Austin City Dental are. I know most people probably don’t consider going to the dentist to be the most fun or anticipated appointment of their day, but the folks at Austin City Dental will definitely change your mind! I’ve never been one to dread the dentist chair, but I’ve also never been one to absolutely love my dentist, until now. From my routine cleanings to crown preps and crown applications, Dr. Cook and his staff have been absolutely amazing through it all. Those of you who cringe when you think about major dental work, have no fear! Austin City Dental has state of the art technology as well as Dr. Cook’s gentle hand to help make it all pain free. Take my word for it! During my last cleaning Kristi was the dental hygienist to take care of me, and she was FANtastic! My impending wedding was only a few weeks away and she helped calm my nerves by sharing funny wedding stories and was excited to hear about all of my wedding and honeymoon plans. Granted, it’s hard to talk with your mouth open, but we made it through with head nods and sounds that vaguely resembled words. 🙂 All in all, I highly recommend Austin City Dental, and I DO recommend them to people every chance I get! These guys are definitely top notch, go above and beyond with their kindliness, and who doesn’t like a dentist who walks in wearing checkerboard Vans!

We only have 1 set of teeth, so it is important to find a dentist that works to take care of them, prevent future issues, and be truthful with the work that needs to be done. Having many dentists in my family, I can tell you it was difficult to find one that I trusted and was comfortable with. Dr. Cook is the one. The staff is friendly and thorough. Dr. Cook talked me through everything and explained the next steps clearly. I have a lot of respect for dentists, and I’m so happy to have found a great one in Austin.
★★★★★
Austin City Dental is great. As much as we all (okay, most of us) hate going to the dentist, the staff here make the visit enjoyable. Dr. Cook is excellent, knowledgeable, and kind, and Martina my dental hygenist is absolutely wonderful. I’ve told her that her cleanings are like a spa treatment for your mouth. As a plus, their office is on the any of the rooms look out into trees, so your visits are as peaceful as possible. Highly recommend.
★★★★★
Like some, I have a slight phobia when it comes to the dentist office. However, due to the positive reviews that I read about Dr. Cook’s office, I took a chance and booked an appointment. Dr. Cook was completely understanding of my apprehension and had impeccable bedside manners to deal with them. This courtesy has been displayed by their entire staff. Regardless of whether I have an appointment with Dr. Cook or one of his very nice and attentive assistants, he always seems to make time to come by and check in on me. He has been very good about explaining certain situations in laymen terms and providing options to mitigate issues without pressure or judgement. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Cook for anyone who is seeking a dentist in town. Thank you to the entire office!
★★★★★
I don’t have insurance and I have seen several dentists in the Austin area for emergency work. A friend of mine who works in dentistry strongly recommended I see Dr. Cook and I am so glad I took her advice! You get what you pay for when it comes to dental work. Dr. Cook absolutely will not cut corners. I am very impressed by his skill, I can never tell when he’s giving me a shot, he’s that good! Dr. Cook does exemplary work! I need a ton of work done, I think he did a crown and 5 or 6 fillings in one session for me. He made time to listen to the questions I had and paid meticulous attention to the details. Every person on his team worked surprisingly well together to during my visit. I think I watched my hygienist change her gloves at least 10 times during my visit. I felt very safe and comfortable and I could tell everyone was taking every necessary precaution to mitigate any COVID-19 exposure risks. Dr. Cooks office was operating beyond my expectations. Best Dentist I have ever found
★★★★★
I havent been to the dentist in years, due to horrible experiences in the past. I was pretty embarrassed by the condition of my mouth and have always been hesitant to go in, but after breaking a tooth I was was forced to. First thing Dr. Cook said to me was that he was not there to judge or tell me what I should have done better, but to help me get my teeth to a healthy state again – and keep them there. I found out after my first appointment that ACD wasn’t in my insurance network – but enough of my costs were still covered that I decided to stay, strictly based on how comfortable all the employees at ACD made me feel. A few appointments later, an zero pain, I’m back in action. ALSO!!!!! – after every appointment Dr. Cook personally called me to check in on how I was feeling and. Will go back to Dr. Cook as long as I live in Austin.

Let me start with a little about my experience with Dentists: I have gone regularly since I can remember, but have moved cities five times in the last seven years. This means I have had new dentists every year or so. Austin City Dental, who for me is Dr. Cook and Martina the hygienist, is an incredible place. It was, by far, the best dental experience I have had. When I came to Austin, I checked around to find the best dentist by Yelp recommendations. The problem came when I couldn’t find appointments for me and my wife. (Kudos to them because we both have pretty solid availability.) My wife then asked around at work, and all of them went to this same guy: Dr. Cook. We agreed that it made sense to try Austin City Dental, but were blown away by how great of an experience it was. Both Dr. Cook and Martina were personable and spent a good amount of time with my wife and I addressing questions we had about bite, our orthodontic progress, dental hygiene and some get-to-know-you stuff. We both loved the experience and wouldn’t think about leaving Austin City Dental! I’m not sure I could more highly recommend a company!
★★★★★
Dr. Cook and his assistant have years of experience and it shows in the integrity of their work. They recommended treatments to remineralize my teeth and thus avoided more costly treatment that another doctor had planned to do. To ensure an accurate diagnosis, Dr. Cook took two x-rays for me at no charge. From start to finish, I felt well-cared for. I highly recommend Austin City Dental. Go check them out!
★★★★★
My wife and are very pleased with Dr. Cook and his staff. The office is clean and has all the latest technology. The front desk has always been well organized, pleasant, and helpful. The dental techs and hygienist are very personable, professional and thorough. Dr. Cook is first rate and always explains everything very clearly. This week he kindly squeezed me into his busy schedule with no appointment when I had a bad tooth infection. He immediately got me set up with a very competent endontist (Dr. Duggan) who met with me that day and performed the root canal a couple days later. This sort of compassion, care, and competence is why I gave Austin City Dental the highest rating.
★★★★★
Everything about ACD is wonderful – dental hygienest Kristi is pure brilliant, and the same goes for dental assistants Jennifer and Pinky. Michelle and Candice at the front desk are friendly and helpful, and Dr. Cook is an artist. I moved to Texas 6 years ago and needed a whole bunch of dental work done. After visiting Dr. Cook once I never wanted to see any other dentist – he’s super-professional, considerate, down-to-earth, and an amazing dentist. On top of the dental services provided the location itself is relaxing and comfortable – always has a good selection of magazines and there’s a free coffee bar. Also, the views are terrific – at one point there was a hawk nest in the trees opposite one of the rooms :] I can honestly say that visiting ACD is actually a pleasure

Dr. Cook and the entire staff at Austin City Dental are first rate. I am the daughter of a dentist and spent 9+ years working in my dad’s office in San Antonio before moving to Austin to attend UT in the early 80s. My dad’s go-to Austin dentist was Brooks Goldsmith, whom my dad and I both considered to be the best of the best. When Dr. Goldsmith decided to retire, he hand picked Dr. Steven Cook to join his practice and take over his legacy and standard of care for his patients and their families. When I recently decided it was just too far to drive to San Antonio, where my brother operates my father’s old practice, the first thing I did was to research who Dr. Goldsmith had chosen to inherit his practice. It was a very smart move. I am now bringing both my kids to Dr. Cook, have had a crown and build-up myself, and have nothing but positive remarks to make about the level of professionalism and courtesy we have experienced “chairside” from Dr. Cook and staff, but also, importantly, I consider the dentistry being practiced at Austin City Dental to be exceptional — top-flight.
★★★★★
I just moved to the area from out of state and had my first visit with Austin City Dental yesterday. I was quite impressed at their Covid protocols. Further, the office is clean and inviting. The entire staff is polite, friendly, and professional. Dr. Cook was patient and took his time getting to know my history and explaining various treatment options. I feel like I am in good hands!
★★★★★
I never would have thought I would look forward to a dentist appointment until my experience at Austin City Dental! Dr. Steven Cook and his entire staff here really go above and beyond, providing both exceptional customer service and exceptional quality of work. In the past, I have had nothing but terrible experiences at the dentist, and I was very hesitant (borderline terrified) to go back. Dr. Cook and his team walked me through every step of my recommended treatment plan, from procedure to payment, and made sure I felt comfortable with each process. I still have a few more appointments at their office, but I know I am in good hands with Austin City Dental.
★★★★★
I can’t say enough good things about Austin City Dental. Dr. Steven Cook is the most patient-focused doctor, be that dentist or otherwise, that I have ever had. My ortho referred me to him and told me if I wanted A+, Dr. Steven Cook was the go-to guy. I’d give him an A+++. I’m having extensive dental work done and Dr. Cook has personally called me multiple times to discuss my options and follow up after procedures. He does not try to talk you into doing anything you don’t need or want and is very considerate of both my dental anxiety and pocket-book. The same is true of all his staff — caring, great follow-up, and detail oriented. I’m looking forward to an amazing smile, thanks to Dr. S. Cook and team.

I am a 28 yr old singer-songwriter in Austin, TX. I have grown up living all over the world, so I have been a patient at a multitude of dental offices. Austin City Dental is by far the best dental office I have visited. Everyone who works there is so down to earth and friendly, which says to me that they enjoy their job and are well taken care of. They are extremely prompt in getting me in the chair right when I walk in and very efficient in getting what needs to be done on a timely basis. They have gone over the top in working with my crazy schedule and fitting me in when I have had a mix-up in my scheduling. Dr. Cook and his assistants are great at explaining what they are doing and communicating in terms I understand. Going to the dentist has never been a drag for me, unlike some people, but this is by far the cleanest, nicest and most comfortable dental office I have ever been to.
★★★★★
Dr. Cook and staff are as good as it gets in dentistry! They always make me feel comfortable when I go and answer all of my questions. My kids always have a positive experience there as well, and never complain about going to the dentist. I got veneers on my upper teeth and Dr. Cook did an amazing job!! They look so natural that no one even notices that I have them. He is a perfectionist when it comes to making them looking as good as they do. I would recommend Dr. Cook and his staff to anyone for their general dentistry and for cosmetic solutions as well. Thank you, Austin City Dental!!
★★★★★
The dental exam and clean at Austin City dental was a a great experience. Hygenist Matina Mathis was very caring and patient oriented, as she went through my dental history very carefully and asked about my concerns. The procedure of x-ray and cleaning was very gentle and I feel like my teeth was cleaned very well after. Dr. Dan was funny and very nice, he examined some problem areas of my teeth based on x-ray but found no issues. The clinic is open, bright, and has modern decoration and plants. Receptionists are nice and friendly. I scheduled an appointment for my husband afterwards and I will definitely return for next check-up
★★★★★
I was a patient of Dr. Cook’s for many years until my recent out of state move. I can say that I always felt relaxed at his dental office and had complete confidence that I was receiving the best dental care from Doctor Cook and his team. I always felt that Dr. Cook went out of his way to be both gentle and thorough in his exams and dental work. I wish I could keep Dr. Cook as my dentist. My daughter kept Dr. Cook as her dentist for many years after moving to Hawaii by arranging to see him during family visits. I think that Dr. Cook offers the best dental care I have ever received and his office is both comfortable and very professional. It is not often you find someone that shows they care and is also so up on the newest procedures.
★★★★★
Dr. Cook and the team at ACD make the best dental experience I have ever had. I ended getting Invisalign through them after a few years of standard appointments/cleanings, and I am nothing but grateful for the kindness and attention to detail throughout the process. I never feel like they put any less than 100% into the work being done, and everyone there seems to truly value their job. They are thorough and honest, which is not always a given in the medical field. I feel healthier because of how well they upkeep my dental hygiene.
★★★★★
My new dentist. Absolutely loved my first time experience. Pinky took the pics, xrays, and prepped me for meeting Dr. Cook. She was extremely nice, professional, and accurate. I was in a bit of a time crunch and they did an amazing job within the timeframe I was working with. Front office were beyond friendly, helpful and welcoming. I had a few concerns which were quickly, but thoroughly addressed by Dr. Cook. He makes you feel comfortable and allows you to ask as many questions as you want/need without making you feel like you’re a bother. I also love the feel/look of the office. I LOVE that he does NOT push products or unnecessary procedures on you. Extremely impressed, and I will return.
★★★★★
I’ve been to MANY dentists in my lifetime. A few have been good, very good. But Austin City Dental is GREAT!! If you use one word to describe the business it’s PATIENCE… Let’s face it.. when someone is ‘in your face’ looking at your teeth, you want someone with lots of patience, that will take their time and assess what needs to be done. When I have a novocaine shot, that in of itself is painful. But Dr. Cook not only goes slowly, but he’s willing to do multiple shots in different areas so that I literally feel no pain. All dentists are expensive, so if you have to spend the money, go to someone in which your entire dental experience will be pleasant.
★★★★★
Had a safe, friendly, professional cleaning/exam appointment at ACD ON 6/30/20. Had been nervous about exposing myself to covid via my open mouth, but the practices and procedures they have in place reassured me completely–they send an extensive list before your appointment so you can be up to speed and ready to go on arrival. I’ve been with the practice since the days of Dr.Goldsmith (pre-ACD), but now see Dr. Cook, who has a comforting chairside manner. The best is my longtime hygienist, Martina, who treated me with care throughout, explained every part of the procedure, and was double-masked, gowned, and gloved (of course). She worked hard, but kept up a friendly conversation, to which I mostly answered with nods and mumbles–except when my mouth was clear! A great experience overall; I’ll be back in 6 months, for sure. P.S. the front desk is also great; friendly, efficient–and behind a lucite barrier. Payment made via credit card, where nobody handles your card but you.

I try to avoid writing reviews on first blush, so I waited until after I had been to Austin City Dental three times (once for a checkup and twice for related followups) to write a review. At this point, I can pretty confidently say that I cannot imagine a better experience in going to the dentist than Dr. Cook and Co. provide. Dr. Cook and all of the staff are knowledgeable and more than willing to share details and answer questions, without a hint of impatience or condescension. I left my checkup confident that I understood the reasons for the recommended followup treatment and, unusual among dentists, confident that I wasn’t being taken for a ride, given that all of the reasons for treatment had been directly pointed out and explained to me during the checkup. As for the work itself, I could not be more pleased. My previous orthodontist had gone all mad scientist on my front teeth when removing my braces over a decade ago, deciding to use some sort of resin inappropriate to the task to give them a more pleasing shape. This had resulted in my front teeth having uneven texture and coloring, and worse, the teeth beneath the resin were beginning to decay. During a marathon session of grinding, filing, filling, and polishing, Dr. Cook and his assistant managed not only to remove all of the old resin and repair the decay, but also to make my front teeth look smooth and continuous in color. Really, their work is artistry. Dr. Cook even called me personally that evening to make sure I was doing well! During my second visit, I was all set for a possible scaling and root planing procedure (and the cost thereof), but the wonderful hygienist managed to get the necessary scraping done without having to resort to local anesthetic, using only a bit of topical for some particularly deep scraping. In addition, she ensured that I was only billed for a regular cleaning. I have never been to another dentist’s office that was willing to reduce the price because you don’t actually need the work done. Some other things that particularly stand out to me about ACD are below: The hygienists and dental assistants are much more well-informed and knowledgeable than in previous dentists’ offices I have been to. They are active participants in your treatment plan, able to review your records with you and help you understand what’s required. It also seems like Dr. Cook trusts them to exercise their judgement, which is the right decision when you have such smart people working for you! Speaking of records, every chair has a monitor above it on which the staff can pull up your X-Rays, charts, etc., to help explain to you what’s going on with your teeth. They’ll give you sunglasses to wear while you’re leaning back, so that you don’t have to stare at that bright light the whole time. All of the offices have large floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the beautiful trees of Austin. As most of the other reviews have noted, all of the staff are very friendly. My dental insurance does not cover ACD, but I really could not care less. I’ll save up the money to pay for this kind of service!
★★★★★
I have seen Dr. Cook and his team for both a cleaning and dental work. Each time I have had exceptional care. They work quickly, but carefully, and honestly I’ve never had a more gentle dental experience. Everything (cleanings, what will happen during a procedure, what to do if you need a break/are in pain, what you’re being charged for, etc.) is so well explained. I am so relieved to have found such an outstanding practice. *Also worth noting that they are taking excellent COVID-19 precautions at the moment. I’ve been twice since the pandemic hit and both times I felt very safe
★★★★★
I put my nervousness level down as an 8/10 and I was probably exaggerating just a tad. All the same, every single person I had contact with was extremely professional and caring. I felt as though they took extra care to ensure I was completely comfortable. I felt at ease almost immediately. I know going to the dentist is not the WORST experience you can endure but it’s certainly not at the top of my priority list on my days off. Dr Cook (senior) did my exam. He was as gentle as possible. Very easy to talk with AND relatable. At the end, they did their best to accommodate my night shift schedule for my cleaning. Which I always appreciate. Overall, I was very pleased with Austin City Dental. The office, the exam rooms, the staff, and the doc were all phenomenal. And I got a sweet welcome kit for being a new patient!
★★★★★
The Office itself was beautiful sleek and new. Dr Cook and his staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and everyone had a very calming vibe to them. This immediately set my very anxious mind at ease. Dr. Cook was very patient, took the time to explain all my options and walked me through the procedures. The Music was light calming and I was looking out a giant window of lush green trees while getting cavities filled. He was both gentle and accurate with the numbing! This is very important to me because my gums were extremely sensitive. Kristi, the dental hygienist that did my teeth cleaning, was very talented, and sweet. Dr. Cook called me to make sure things were healing properly the next day. I feel safe and taken care of here
★★★★★
Dr. Cook, and his staff responded to my sons’ and my dental needs with caring, state-of-the art treatment, and thoroughness. Shortly after moving to Austin, my son first went to Dr. Cook for a dental emergency. He was greatly relieved to receive immediate effective care, and to have found an excellent dentist and office. Since then both my sons have been comfortable with all procedures they needed. Dr. Cook’s work restored my sons’ dental health, and effectively promoted their daily dental maintenance. I just moved to Austin, and followed my sons’ to Dr. Cook’s office for my first visit. Our dental health is in the best hands with Dr. Cook’s practice!
★★★★★
I have been going to this dental office since 1985. I’ve seen the same hygienist, Cathy, for almost as long. I thought no one could fill Dr. Goldmisth’s shoes but Dr. Cook has projected that same non-judgmental caring about his patients as Dr. Goldsmith did. When you walk into their office you can tell that everyone who works there likes what they do. I never thought I would like walking into a dentist’s office but I have so much respect for this office and how they’ve saved my teeth.
★★★★★
Jen and Dr Cook were amazing! They worked so gently and swiftly that my two fillings were done in no time. Zero pain. In the past, I’ve been anxious at the dentist, but they put me at ease, no time to wait or overthink, and before I knew it, everything was done! And Michelle in the front always makes scheduling easy, and billing and payment straightforward and accommodating. Austin City Dental is literally the best dental office and best dental experience i have ever had!
★★★★★
I don’t think I’ve had very many likable dentist visits until this one. Overall I found their staff very nice and courteous and felt very well treated as opposed to past experiences where I’ve had people come off as rude or just tired of doing their job, but not these guys. Super nice people. I’ve had 2 visits so far and Dr. Cook and co have been great at explaining everything that’s going on and explaining why things are done and how they want my treatment to look going forward. Big plus for me is telling Dr. Cook i’m afraid of needles and he was like “No worries I got you fam!”(rough translation). He then did an excellent job not rushing things and making them as easy to get through as possible. Pretty impressed with the office overall and will continue to get my teeth worked on here. P.S. made a yelp just to show how grateful I was for their treatment
★★★★★
I am not the type of person who has ever enjoyed going to the dentist, I get anxious and worked up. But the moment I got to Dr. Cooks office the first time I was greeted by the wonderful front desk ladies! and got to relax with a cup of chamomile tea on the couch while I waited, which wasn’t very long at all. Then, while in the “seat” the assistant held my hand! and Dr. Cook’s energy was very calm and he is a knowledgeable guy as well which naturally settled my nerves. I love this dentist office and try to stir all my friends and family in his direction. Oh and they take HAMM!
★★★★★
I’ve been a client of Austin City Dental for over 10 years and I receive the same exceptional service each and every time. From the moment you call the appointment desk to the dental hygienists who do great cleanings and provide super care and on to the dentists who do an overall check of not only your teeth but other parts of your mouth. They have a knack for answering questions and going over x-rays with you…and in a way you will understand! And I have to give a shout-out to the accounting department who is great will explaining insurance information and payment plans. Thanks to the Austin City Dental team for making my dental experience a pleasant one each year!
★★★★★
If you want a personable, thorough, thoughtful and highly skilled dentist, Dr. Cook is your man. His philosophy, team and methods are patient-centered, and I appreciate it. My experience taught me that general dentistry was rough, painful, sloppy.. a punishment for lack of preventative maintenance on my part. Not only that, but treatment seemed temporary and ongoing as some of the work never seemed to hold up. Over the past two months, after two cleanings with Kristi, and a session with Dr. Cook, I realize that there is an elevated level of service in the profession. The care is impeccable, the results are immediate, and I encourage you to try Austin City Dental. Many thanks to the entire team! Andy
★★★★★
I had a great experience with Austin City Dental. We recently moved to Austin, and they were recommended to me by several friends. Their COVID-19 procedures made me feel safe and secure, my cleaning was incredibly thorough (Martina is AMAZING) and Dr. Cook took the time to really talk me through my overall teeth and gum health and give me evidence and rationale for the next steps he recommended. I’m thrilled to have found a great dentist in Austin!!
★★★★★
My son and I have been patients of Austin City Dental and Dr. Steven Cook for over eight years. We have always experienced the highest degree of excellence regarding our care, as well as professionalism and integrity from him and his entire staff. I have also referred friends and clients to him over the years, and all have reported back being very appreciative of, and pleased with the care they received. His Dental Hygienist, Martina, consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty. She was the first person or professional to recognize my symptoms of sleep apnea, and had Dr, Cook refer me to a specialist, who confirmed the diagnosis. More recently, when I showed up for a routine visit, she realized and brought to my attention that not enough time had elapsed since I had had major orthopedic surgery (and was correct), and sent me on my way, rather than risk the possibility of my developing a serious infection (which could have undone my surgery) as a result of just a routine cleaning. She unpretentiously takes pride in being a life-long learner (as do I), and always makes sure she is up to date on the most recent advances and information in dental and medical care, regarding her patients. As you can tell, I am very pleased with Dr. Cook and his entire Austin City Dental Staff, and it is not my normal practice to routinely nor casually give such a positive and glowing review. Robert M.
