I am so blessed to have Dr. Daddy DeKoch. I have been with Dr. DeKoch, before his children joined him, for 18 years. Dr. Dekoch is such a caring doctor. He listens to his patients and respects what they have to say. When I was 8 years old, I was molested by a dentist. I had a very bad phobia of male doctors and dentists. I explained this to Dr. Dekoch when I first met him. I asked him to always make sure he had a female in the room with him when every he worked on my teeth. He honored my request. He would always make sure there was a female in the room with him. He explained everything he was doing. He always checked to make sure I was okay. He always took the time to get to know my family. If I needed dental work done by another dentist, Dr. DeKoch made sure it was someone who would handle me gently and respect my wishes. He would check on me to see if I was okay, to see if there was anything I needed, and to make sure the doctor he referred me to met with my approval. Dr. Dekoch is a very rare doctor. When my husband and I started our family, Dr. DeKoch made sure this pregnant mommy got the best care. I am so blessed to have him as my doctor. I pray God let’s him live a long time and keep his strength up so he can work on my teeth for the rest of his life. He introduced me to his children, so that if God takes Dr. Daddy DeKoch home before I am ready, his children will be a great substitute for him. I love you Dr. Daddy DeKoch and family. My father-in-love, who is also a dentist, is very pleased with Dr. DeKoch taking care of my teeth. If I could give Dr. DeKoch and family, 100 stars, I would. My teeth will last my lifetime thanks to the awesome dentistry team I have working on my teeth. I guess I have said enough. If I keep going on, I will run out of space. New client/patient of Dr. DeKoch and Alamo Heights Dental. Office run by father, son, and daughter dentists. I’ve had serious dental problems. Last time I went to a dentist was over 10 years ago. Been having painful toothaches so had to confront my phobia once and for all for dentists due to terrible experiences in my younger days. Had two appointments this week for Xrays, cleaning, assessment. Second appointment, tooth extraction, several cavity fillings completed today. Painless, quick extraction, cavity fills, and follow up instructions. First rate dentist, first rate office staff. All in all it was quite a pleasant experience. My teeth and gums are happy now. I recently retired as a dental hygienist from Dr. DeKoch’s office. Of course, after I retired, I needed dental work after years of not needing anything but cleanings. I have had to get a crown, a filling and an implant since I left. That covers most of the dental procedures . I have worked for several other dentists and what I really like about Dr. Dekoch is he does great work and doesn’t take hours and hours to do it. My mouth gets really tired so I appreciate that. Also, in case you didn’t know it, dental people can be nervous patients, too-sometimes even more so. ( We know the things that can go wrong). He and Cindy make his patients feel safe. Putting those two things together with some other good staff like Carrie at the front desk, you can’t go wrong.

Visiting the dentist is not something to look forward to but these folks make it almost fun. Carrie is the key person in this place. She follows up on pre-appointments, and you usually have her make a future visit schedule. She is also very persistent. We were traveling for three weeks in Arizona and Florida and neglected an appointment. When I arrived home there were about seven messages from Carrie each one more concerned. I finally spoke to her and told her how I appreciate her follow up. My favorite hygienist is Rebecca. She is efficient, does not inflict pain unnecessarily, and makes time pass quickly with her conversational skills. Dr. John is friendly and efficient and his dad Dirk is the most experienced and compassionate old school dentist around. Five years ago when we moved to Alamo Heights I used Yelp to find these folks. I work at a dental coinic on ft sam and i have seen a lot of weird things on and off post. The doctors and hygienists here are homest and kind. I can read xrays and I know when im being told i need something I don’t. This dentist chooses treatment you really need and does it well. I cant recommend them enough.

Can we say…Extreme Makeover, Dentist Edition? I was lucky enough to find Dr.Dekoch while they were still located in the old office (pictured in some of the photos). I loved their service – all the staff were so nice, and I immediately felt I could trust them not to do any unnecessary work to my teeth. But let me tell you – they just moved a few minutes away into a brand new building and it is INCREDIBLE! Great parking, huge waiting room, kids play area, complimentary beverages, flat screens, and I’m pretty sure my dental chair was massaging me…?! And it all came with the same spectacular service! If I could give 10 stars I would. I’ve already referred two others and they loved it also.

My husband and I have been a client of Dr Dirk for over 10yrs. We got lucky when my insurance assigned him to me as his office is located right on the edge of our neighborhood. We have been thru several insurance plans since then and again we have been lucky to have been able to keep him. He is a good honest fair man, doctor, and business owner. Top dentist in SA. He is the only dentist that has never used gas on me… and I haven’t needed it!… Dr Dirk is awesome! His son has joined the business. Diana at the front desk is always sweet and helpful. I also highly recommend the hygienist Becca who always seems to look forward to seeing us both. Everyone in the office always seems to be happy. The office will always work with you to make sure you are taken care of… as you can tell from the many other reviews… Dr Dirk cares!

After reading through Yelp, and finding out that this guy was able to patch up Inda H.’s mouth after she had a tongue ring, I figured that this guy could do anything. I scheduled an appointment. I needed prophylaxis, which only sounds dirty, but it’s not. Just a cleaning. Dr. Dekoch’s staff was quite nice, friendly, and on-time. They did a fairly good job of cleaning my teeth. I wish they would’ve gotten a bit lower underneath the gum line though. They’ve been a great help with my teeth and Dr. Dekoch’s manner is excellent, and he seems to be quite thorough. The rates were quite reasonable, and I felt at ease the whole time. I enjoy the fact that he’s a baseball fan and has all kinds of baseball paraphernalia around the office. So next time you’re graced by my brilliant smile, you can thank Dr. Dirk Dekoch.

When I first heard about Dr. Dekoch, it was through my husband’s work. They kept on saying “no frills” dentist. Although this didn’t seem all that comforting to me, my husband said we should give him a call one day when I was having awful tooth pain. They had me in the office within one hour. They didn’t ask what insurance I had, they didn’t ask if I was a new patient. They just said, “Pain? Come.” Of course, I knew they took my insurance, but they were more concerned with me first. When I arrived, I was slightly scared about the 1970’s furniture that they have in the waiting room. Little knick knacks in the wall shelving made me feel like I was visiting a man older than my grandmother (who is 82). I was wrong. Very wrong. Dr. Dekoch (an Aggie Fan) was amazing. He gave me pain meds WHILE trying to find out what was wrong. They found I needed a root canal and soon, so he scheduled it for the next day. He gave me his cell phone number if the pain increased and I needed to contact him in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. What dentist does this? The total bill was a LOT less than I could imagine, a root canal and crown for about $300. I take my children there when I get a cleaning. I take my children there to get their cleanings. I would take everyone, but Diana (the nicest receptionist I have ever met) might seem like I am stalking a bit. No frills means real business model. Go Dr. D! You rock

Dr DeKoch Sr is just great, the staff is friendly, very professional. I went there solely based on the reviews I had read here on Yelp and I couldn’t be happier. I have been in the U.S. for a year now and I went to another dentist at first and hated it, the place didn’t look clean, the staff was not nice and the dentist seemed bored. Dr DeKoch is truly what you’d call a real doctor, he knows what he is doing and after just being there just once I can say I trust him to work on my teeth (I have some superficial cavities and I want braces). I thought I would never find a good dentist like the one I have back home in Romania but it seems I was wrong. I recommend this place to anyone who can’t seem to find a dentist they like and trust.

While I highly value the quality of care and honest business practice, it’s the staff that give this office a solid 5 stars. Becka makes getting our teeth cleaned something to look forward to – she is professional, kind and caring. Diana at the front desk is polite, efficient and so sweet. Dr. DeKoch and his son John are both very professional and have an amazing bed side manner. They are honest in their diagnosis/treatment and reasonable in what they charge. Yes, there are cheaper places to go but you get what you pay for (I unfortunately know this from experience). I dreaded going to the dentist until I became a patient of Dr. DeKoch – my whole family has received excellent care since 2004. I doubt any other dental practice can offer the combination of integrity and compassion that you will find with Dr. DeKoch.

Update 12/23/20 – I think I have said what I have have to say already about Dr. DeKoch, but I had to take the time again to express my gratitude for the phenomenal service I receive every time I visit this practice. If someone has figured out how to do 6 star reviews on here, please let me know! Original review – Alright, I don’t know why they didn’t just relocate their business in GMaps and bring all the old reviews with them, but anyway, I believe most of the staff came over to this new location so I recommend you look at old reviews for service. I personally love Dr. DeKoch Sr. He is by far the most professional and pleasant medical professional I’ve worked with in my 12 years in San Antonio, same goes for Krista my dental hygienist. Now for the new location… holy cow… I used to like their old location because of its cozy homey feeling, like going to my grand parents back in the day. I wasn’t too sure about upgrading the look but jeez, they went above and beyond! You can see the pictures to get an idea, but top notch! I mean, the freaking chairs have some form of shiatsu massage! Lol it’s crazy, come check it out! Update 8/2/18 – Still loving this place and team! If only I could find a comparable general practitioner..

The DeKoch family dental practice is a state of the art dentist’s office with a small town feel. The dentists are thorough and excellent at what they do….the highest level of professionalism and skill are what you get. They are also kind and caring. It really is a family practice- father and children all dentists- they care about their work and their practice. Besides the fact that the dentists are incredible let’s not forget that every staff member at the office and every hygienist is also highly trained, very professional, and pleasant. This office has it going on. If you need an excellent dentist, look no further. I have had preventative care, my son had an issue with a tooth, my husband has been through the implant process, all experiences have been handled with the utmost care. My Aunt from Canada was visiting and had a dental emergency, and they saw her right away and took such great care of her! We feel so lucky to have found such a great dentist, worth their weight in gold!

I called Monday they were able to see me on Wednesday then a follow up today Friday! First impression the people! Everyone is very friendly and relaxed, the dental asst, Cindy was super efficient, warm and friendly. She made sure to turn on the massage chair for my comfort. While waiting for lab to come back today, she let me sit in the dental chair because dr dirk had grandparents day. She stayed so busy stocking rooms staying busy while dr was gone. People make the place. Secondly the building is brand new and styled so personally with lumber from ancestors homestead. Gorgeous place. I am in capable hands and feel like I have known them. 110 Chichester sat 78218 easy to get to plenty of parking and the staff make this experience above and beyond pleasurable. Not the word usually associated with a dental visit!

I was a couple of years overdue for a cleaning and I had a filling fall out of my back left molar. I already knew that that back molar had to be extracted and I had new cavities to be filled. After reading a few Yelp and Google reviews and determining if they took my insurance, I booked an appointment. 1. Booking the appointment — They had an appointment available for me at the time I wanted the next week. My back tooth wasn’t hurting, so I felt I could wait. Besides, who’s THAT excited to go to the Dentist? They told me to come in 15 minutes before my appointment time to fill out some forms. 2. Reception — Got there 15 mins before my time. The ladies at the front desk were pleasant and helpful. I filled out some forms. Turned them in. Right at 1030, they called me for xrays. 3. XRays were cool — their machine is fully digital. Xray tech knew what she was doing and pleasant. You see your teeth right there. I had to get more xrays after my cleaning. My insurance covered it. They shot more; pew pew. 4. Cleaning — The hygenist was very nice. She was the hero of the day. I recently quit smoking so she had the daunting task of scraping all that buildup. She used a magnetostrictive ultrasonic scaler – a pik that vibrates so fast, it needs constant running water to cool it. She was very nice and I was very apologetic. She did a great job – my teeth didn’t feel as sore afterwards. 5. Dentist — Dr. DeKoch was awesome. He spoke clearly. We talked about the importance of 6 month visits. He determined that I will be needing 3 fillings (using the fancy digital xrays, he pinched-to-zoom to the areas so he can explain it better). He examined my busted molar he determined that it needed to be extracted as soon as possible. We scheduled the fillings the for a week later; after the molar extraction takes place. After the consult, he personally walked me over to the Oral Surgeon’s office next door to schedule that extraction. He spoke highly of him and I couldn’t be more confident in taking his reccomendation. 6. The return visit — Dr. DeKoch used local anesthetic and drilled and filled 3 of my cavities. and fixed my chipped front tooth. It was great. Dr. DeKoch is a pro. The filling to fix the chip perfectly matched my tooth’s color. We talked about a referral to orthodontics as part of a plan to pemanently fix my broken front teeth with crowns instead of “filling material”. I have determined that Dr. DeKoch will be my permanent dentist as long as I live in San Antoinio. His front office staff is great, his hygenists/assistants are professional and pleasant. For those who complained about his “dated” facility, he’s building his new office building (still in the 09) and will be ready to move soon. If he refers you to another dental specialist, he personally knows them and they have the same quality of work/work ethic he does.

It’s a warm and professional office. They treat children and adults so it’s a lively place. It’s refreshing to go to a dental office that isn’t just serving adults. I had previously made a review but realized I was on someone else’s account and so went ahead and deleted that and I’m ready to make a new review hopefully with the same awesomeness as the last one. So a friend of my dad’s recommended I go here when I was having some issues with my past dentist. So I picked up the phone and made the call. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate going to the dentist or anything, in fact I actually like it, but say I did hate the whole process of going to the dentist, they absolutely made it as simple and as amazing as they possibly could. As soon as they picked up the phone it was an experience you don’t get when calling any drs office. The voice on the other end of the line was pleasant and answered all my questions (believe me, I had plenty). The day of my appointment I walked in and was treated like I was family and had been going there for my entire existence. It was an amazing experience, and they even stayed way past close to do the best dentistry job ever! Every single person that works there has a smile on their face and is ready to do anything they can to accommodate you and make it as pleasant as it can possibly be to go to the dentist. Let me tell you, there is a night and day difference from their old location to this brand new build (it’s actually been a couple of years now). Since there is a new page for the new location, I guess I need to make a new review too. As I said in my last review and I’ll repeat it here “Dr. DeKoch is a good honest fair man, doctor, and business owner. Top dentist in SA. He is the only dentist that has never used gas on me… and I haven’t needed it!…” Rebecca Murphy is my “go to” dental hygienist. All the staff tho is always amazing, kind, and friendly. Dr. Dirk Dekoch is an amazing dentist and a very compassionate man. I was in the hospital with my 3 year old son as he received treatment for his cancer when I chipped a tooth. To say the least, time was not a luxury i had and I could not afford to let my tooth become a distraction to my sons treatment. I contacted my home dentist who referred me to Dr. Dekoch and they made all the arrangements for me. My experience was a true blessing and one I will not soon forget. Once I explained my situation to Dr. Dekoch he was very sympathetic and understanding and did his best to get me patched up and back to my son at the hospital. I was in and out in under 40 min. from checking in to walking out the door. I am excited to tell others about this practice because just like everyone else posts here the entire staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable, well its true and its no wonder there are so many great reviews for this office. God bless this practice and thank you Dr. Dekoch for expediting my stay so I could return to my son at the hospital. It was an absolute pleasure to get to meet you and your staff and I hope one day I can return the favor you have offered me on this day.
