Ok, so it’s the dentist, right? all love to y’all, but not one’s first choice to spend one’s time. but you gotta go, or your teeth fall out (or rot, or a whole lot of other options one would prefer not to think about). well, i didn’t go. for awhile. let’s say a decade or so. enter: academy dental. i came in ugly (due to my neglect). well, honestly, it took some work. it wasn’t always pretty. but here we are, and my teeth are working and they have a future. but let me tell you a little about the ride. it’s easy to feel dumb about neglecting your health. the warm and friendly folks at academy, while stressing the value of good self-care, never made me feel as such. instead, we made a plan of care and then enacted it. there is HUMANITY in this office. i sincerely enjoy my interactions with every single member of this practice and never recall leaving the building without a smile on my face. and this is the dentist, remember? i applaud my hardworking hygienist, carrie jo; the office staff who provide great communication with scheduling and insurance navigation; and the comprehensive care i’ve received under dr. gonzales. plus, to really drive the point home, they are all a pleasure to spend time with, even under the circumstances. thanks to you all. heck, y’all now got me committed to flossing.

First time ever stepping foot in a Dentist Office. It took me 27 years and finding the right woman to get me in here. She was extremely happy with their teeth whitening service and suggested that it’d be a good place to go for my first time. They were all extremely helpful and transparent with her, and she said they were almost “too” nice. lol but she convinced me and they were nothing but genuine, caring, and informative. Engagement on a personal level was on point and made it fun. So instead of dreading my next visit I had it set up and looking forward to coming in again in October. Just want to say thank you to the staff at Academy Dental Care for taking care of me, my fiancé, and our smiles.

Everyone I’ve met here has been really kind and understanding. If you are transgender or non-binary, there are options to select your preferred title and pronouns. Everyone in the office uses my correct pronouns, and are just generally super kind. They also have procedures in place to deal with the spread of COVID-19, ones which will protect themselves and their patients.

From top to bottom, the staff of Academy Dental are wonderful. I’m a huge baby when going to the dentist, even for just a cleaning. They are compassionate, gentle and explain everything they’re getting ready to do, before they do it. Then they continuously check to be sure you’re ok with what they’re doing. They genuinely care about your comfort level, both physically, and mentally. They’re very thorough, and are all extremely knowledgeable in whatever job they do. They approach each patient as a team. We are refugees from another dental clinic. Because we’re fresh-off-the-boat, we don’t yet know all the staff at Academy Dental Care. But the people we’ve met are wonderfully charming. Dr. Chelsea Gonzales is beyond charming and she will provide you with compassionate, expert care. The staff we’ve met are awesome too, for example, Gwen, Ashlee, Rachelle, Cindy, and Berta. What you will see when you come here is that the people in this clinic are genuine and you will notice that they really do care about you. If you’re an oldster with yellow teeth, they can make you look beautiful so that you can get a much younger date. If you’re a rapper, they can make you a custom grill. If you’re an old-school hockey player, they can make some durable dental implants to fill in those holes in your smile. Whatever you may need, they will advise you on the best procedures available today. There was even an attractive blond woman at the counter, asking to see a dentist because someone had dented her car… and they even helped her, too. You can’t go wrong here.

I had a filling get pulled out of my tooth last summer, and over the past weekend that tooth started to hurt. I needed immediate attention but didn’t have a regular dentist. Dr. Gonzales and her hygienists (Berta and Jeniffer) have been absolutely wonderful each time I’ve been here. It’s refreshing to walk into an office where the staff is so friendly and professional, both to clients and to each other. There is an obvious respect for each other in the work environment (another rarity) and I have been told by several people here that it is a great place to work. I had a few fillings replaced and both Dr. Gonzales and Jeniffer worked to make it as comfortable and pain-free as possible, which it was. Dr. Gonzales even followed up that evening with a phone call to make sure everything was feeling ok. I was impressed! Outstanding first visit. I would give 6 stars if I could. In summary: This seems to be an outstanding practice that is absolutely committed to giving you a world-class experience. I have a follow-up visit next month, and am looking forward to it. My initial impression is that this is an awesome ABQ business! Details of my visit: Had the most thorough check-up and cleaning I’ve ever had at a dental office. Berta, the hygienist, was an absolute joy and made the entire visit more fun and comfortable. She did a great job of explaining each step of the check-up and cleaning. I met with Dr. Gonzales toward the end, and felt that she was attentive, professional and made me feel very taken care of as a patient. Cyndi, who works the front desk, is awesome too — she was my first point of contact with this office, and even just on the phone was engaging and friendly. Note: Felt that the office was a *little* tricky to find. Once you arrive in their plaza on Wyoming, just know that the office is toward the northern edge of the plaza, a little tucked away. Would recommend giving yourself a little extra time to find it on your first visit.

Since I’m new to ABQ I have to rely on google reviews for my recommendations. I was looking for a dentist near my home. When I called I got in fairly quickly for a new appointment. Working in the medical field you can’t always go by “online reviews” because many people only go online when they aren’t happy, but I didn’t have any where else to turn and I found this office from google. Hopefully you will find this review helpful. I found Dr. Gonzales sincere, hard working, and very personal on my first appointment. Also every staff I interacted with was overly personal and delightful which is rare at an office. They all seemed happy to be there and I think that’s a reflection from the top down. I would recommend this office if you are new or looking for a general dentist.

I did not like going to the dentist because of past experiences.
