All the assistants, receptionist, and hygienists have been wonderful as well. I am so happy to have finally found a good dentist for my son, it has taken some trial and error at other places but Bethany Dental was able to get us in the next day to have a spacer removed that “World of Smiles” was not able to remove. All of the staff we met today were professional and friendly, they even offered us cold water. My husband and I will be going back and so will our son. So relieved to have found a place we can trust and that is close to home. Also glad that they will be able to do my root canal here as my regular dentist wasn’t able to.

Courteous, professional, skillful. Our whole family has received treatment from Bethany Family Dental and we’ve had great care. We’ve had work done by both Dr. Austria and Dr. Hairani and both are excellent. In particular I recently had an extraction by Dr. Hairani and it went much better than I could have expected. In my case, I was planning to be pretty unhappy for four days but woke up the next day feeling great and grateful for a great dentist! Dr. Austria is the best dentist I have ever had. He is thorough and honest and his office uses the newest technology. I have never experienced such swift and painless dental procedures. After my second visit I decided to have my crowns and older fillings replaced by him. After 3 years I am sad that I will move away, but I will do my best to keep him as my dentist and try to schedule future appointments to coincide with business trips to the area. Updating: Excellent service for the past 3+ years. I’m not sure what the other user who gave a one star is complaining about in terms of “unnecessary” procedures. If anything, Dr. Austria is thorough to a point and very conservative when it comes to treatment. When it comes to dental health, there is no substitute for thorough, quality care. We also love the email and text reminders, especially useful for a hectic lifestyle with children involved. Most recently I had a impacted wisdom tooth extraction with IV sedation. The BEST experience ever. I’ve had multiple surgeries and such throughout my lifetime and this experience was by far the best. When I awoke, I hadn’t even realized that almost 2 hours had passed! The recovery was also fast and there was minimal trauma/pain associated with the procedure. We are looking forward to the day when we can take our little one to the dentist. We know he will thoroughly enjoy the experience with the excellent staff at Dr. Austria’s practice.

I was surprised at the negative reviews and wanted to speak up for my dentist and his great staff! I started going to Bethany Family Dental in October and I highly recommend them to all my friends and family. The staff is compassionate and knowledgeable and have respected me with my limited finances. They offer an in house insurance type discount plan for those of us who do not have the luxury of dental insurance. My last appointment was to get an old leaky crown removed and replaced and the Dr. Austria showed me my xrays and pictures to explain the treatment and didn’t bad mouth my previous dentist even though i think he was too old school, and i respect that. I have never felt more at ease and trusting of a dentist who truly wants to give you the best result and fully explains EVERYTHING. The front office staff was so helpful and straightforward they tell you upfront what to expect and you dont feel like your getting swindled. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Bethany family dental!!!!

This is a very nice practice full of pleasant people. I know there are a lot of negative reviews, but people are never happy to be going to the dentist. You have to pay money to get in a chair to have your mouth worked on. So going to the dentist isn’t something people enjoy. Blaming a nice practice like Bethany Family Dental isn’t the answer. Also, I asked a hygienist at Bethany why there were only negative reviews even though I’ve been there many times and everyone was super nice. She stated that yelp removed their older positive reviews and would only repost if the practice paid a fee. That sounded kind of crazy to me so I thought I’d put up a new review so people know that this is actually a great office. This practice is professional, kind, and a great place to go for your dental needs. The dentist is a great guy and a skilled doctor. Highly recommended.

Going to the dentist isn’t exactly on my top 10 of favorite things to do, but the staff and Dr. Austria were always friendly to me despite other reviews. I’ve only ever had a single issue with billing that happened while they were transitioning staff; once the new staff came in, it was resolved satisfactorily. As far as the dental work and Dr. A…..WONDERFUL. He is calm, competent, and relieves any concerns or fears. He is caring and has a soft touch. I also feel very good about any fillings or crowns I’ve had done and I feel much better about his work and the quality than I have of other previous dentists throughout my life. My insurance doesn’t cover this practice and I’m still strongly considering paying 100% out of pocket to continue care there. If I have to go elsewhere due to cost, it will be reluctantly.

I had to find a dentist in a pinch due to some tooth pain, I now plan to have them be my primary dentist after all of this. They got me in during this absolutely mad time of business closures and pandemic chaos on a Friday at 7 am to get a quick x ray and a referral to an oral surgeon. My experience with hygienist was amazing. She seems new in the office (about one year per her), and it was my first time see her. She is very professional and considerate. She gave very thorough cleaning on my teeth. And at some times, she has to stand to do the job since she said she is “short” (but with big heart). Very good experience. My parents, myself and my children have gone to Dr. Austria for several years. He preformed several root canals on my mother. The results were excellent and she was quite pleased. I’ve had several caps done and the quality of work was very good. Recently, he did a sleep device for me. I am amazed at the reviews that I have read here. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Austria for several years and am very happy about the fantastic treatment that we have received from both of the doctors and their staff. They are very sweet, extremely accommodating and professional. I would not pay any attention to the negative reviews that you read on here. The reality is, some people have unrealistic/ high expectations and frankly, dental treatment is expensive for a reason. If you get “cheap” service, my theory is, you get what you pay for. His staff is kind, they offer payment arrangements and they DO NOT have anything to do with the cost of dental treatment. The fees are based off of your insurance provider and if you don’t have insurance, the office works with you to make the treatment affordable. They are great!

I had an appointment today for a crown and filling and it was the easiest and most pleasant dental appointment I’ve ever had. I didn’t even feel the injection! The TV’s on the ceiling were great, I was more concerned with my episode of ‘Friends’ than what was going on. I almost fell asleep. The staff were all very knowledgeable and so friendly and kind. I felt like I was getting the VIP treatment. They explained the treatment costs before my appointment and were very informative. I am really glad that I ignored the first two dental reviews when choosing to go to Bethany Family Dental. I have had terrible dental anxiety since the 4th grade (so approximately for the last 22 years), but I decided to try Dr. Austria and the team at Bethany Family Dental. NOTE: I lived in the Portland area for the last couple years and really procrastinated finding a dentist so this was a HUGE step for me 🙂 I had my first cleaning in November 2012. Since then, I have had to return for a couple of expected procedures, and I have to admit that the more I go, the less anxiety I seem to have! I think that says a lot about the quality of care from everyone at Bethany Family Dental. The office staff, assistants, hygienists and of course, Dr Austria have always been super nice, help calm my anxiety and provide excellent care. They have always been accomodating with my work schedule and helping me figure out the insurance details. I’m really happy with the level of care at Bethany and would recommend them to anyone!

January 2013: I’m new to town and my bridge falls out! What do I do? After the initial freak out because I have a gap in my smile, I call the only dentist I can think of because I’ve driven past it. They have been amazing! They got me in same day and put my bridge in. Fabulous office staff! Seriously, they are thoughtful and kind, and even spelled my name right which is hard to do. And I found out that this office also does dental implants here AND they also see kids. They are obviously equipped to handle more than just teeth cleaning, and I’m so impressed. This guy is an oral surgeon. And can handle pediatric dentistry too? Is there anything he CAN’T do? I’ve gone to the dentist regularly my whole life… I’ve never found a one-stop-shop before. I’m actually excited to come back in a few weeks for a cleaning. Update on 4/17/13: Can I give this place a higher rating than excellent? My 7 year old daughter woke up yesterday with an abscess on her gums. I called Bethany Family Dental and they got us in right away. Thankfully, we had just had my daughter in the week before for her first ever dental visit & cleaning, so we were now aware of a deep cavity that was in one of her baby molars. We had scheduled to have it extracted in a week or so. Well, I guess it couldn’t wait and an abscess appeared. For her second-ever-in-her-life visit, she did great. Mostly because Dr. Austria did a great job with her. Her emergency tooth extraction was done within 20 minutes, they squeezed us in, did a phenomenal job, never made us feel like we were intruding on their schedule, and my girl didn’t cry or flinch when Dr. Austria numbed her with the needle. He did great with her and so she was great with him. She was back at school within an hour. This is a great family practice!

Nathan Austria DMD, is a general dentist and has been practicing dentistry for over 20 years, 14 years have been at Bethany Family Dental the first dental office to open in the Bethany community. He received his DMD, doctorate of medical dentistry in 1992 from Temple University School of Dentistry. His accreditation include the North East Regional Boards and the Western Regional Boards, which allowed him to practice in various parts of the country before moving back to the Northwest. Dr. Austria is a native Oregonian and has lived in the Portland Area since 1972 where he did most of his schooling earning a Biology degree at the University of Oregon in 1988. Bethany Family Dental, PC was the first dental practice established in the Bethany area by Dr. Austria in 1999. He was particularly attracted to the neighborhood feel, the friendliness, and the active lifestyles of the people. Dr. Austria greatly appreciates the patient relationships he has developed over the years and is truly honored by the opportunity in treating their dental needs. Dr. Austria has been providing general and specialty procedures for over 25 years with extensive post-graduate training and is certified to perform various types of specialized procedures. He maintains an additional level of anesthesia permit to perform intravenous sedation, a procedure performed routinely in his office for patients that require it and a nice option for longer procedures. Another procedure not typically offered in dental offices is (PRP) platelet rich plasma, a procedure that accelerates wound healing and minimizing post operative pain, most advantageous for diabetics and patients who don’t heal well. Dr. Austria strives to better his craft through advancement in technology and education so that his patients may receive the best possible care. When Dr. Austria is not focusing on his work he enjoys the outdoors and traveling with family.
