This is the first time I have written a yelp review for anyone but it is deserving. I used my husband’s account. I’ve found Dr. Shawn Hofkes after months of researching for the right surgeon, because I knew my case is very complex. I scheduled an appointment and after a thorough consultation a plan was made for full-mouth rehabilitation via a fixed full-arch implant-supported prosthesis for the upper and lower jaws. As a result of his experience, ability, and precision my surgery for removing all teeth and placing the implants went perfect. I healed quickly and while waiting the required time (it was long but worth it) for the bone graft to heal, I had all my temporary teeth exemplary made by Ricardo, a very talented lab technician, you couldn’t even tell they are not the “final teeth”. On all my appointments, I had nothing but great experiences while going to see Dr. Shawn. His team is great and he did a great job explaining everything that he was doing and listening to what I had to say. During all of my appointments: and believe me, I had so many appointments he fully answered all of my questions. After seeing many different dentists, I can say that Dr. Shawn Hofkes and his team are the best I have seen and I will continue to go there and would highly recommend them to anyone. Very important: the office itself is very new, immaculate and state of the art. His staff is top notch, all of them are great, professional and make you feel so comfortable. Absolutely wonderful people. You get to watch Netflix while having your teeth worked on as well. All around Professionals! It’s been a week now since I got my final beautiful teeth!!! I feel very comfortable and cannot stop smiling and take selfies, I got countless compliments from all my friends and co-workers.  My dream having a beautiful smile really came through, thank you Ricardo for “building” my perfect teeth and millions of tanks to Dr. Shawn!!!

First off like everyone else I hate going to the dentist. I’m one of those people that will not go unless it really hurts and I feel like I’m dying. So this is one of those I’m dying scenario… my big tooth on my lower right broke off when I was chewing some ice… I know off of ICE! So I guess the damage was so bad that it cracked my tooth down to my nerves. I waited too long to see the dentist that I had to actually get it taken out. So I did some research and I found Cerritos Dental Surgery. I called  and spoke with Allie. She was so nice. They actually were able to see me the next day for consult. The office was very nice and clean. The staff were very welcoming. And the back office assistants Lorie and Maddie were hot like “hello nurses” and super nice  Anyways Dr Shawn was a little Cutie himself and he was so nice enough to answer all my questions. I needed to get my broken tooth taken out and have an implant placed later on. Dionne the office manager had explained the financial part of it and laid out different types of payment options. Overall I’ve never felt so at ease with going to the dentist. I had my treatment done that same day and now I pain free. Thank you Cerritos Dental Surgery for being so awesome!

I have always used Yelp to find things and services I would need. Having found a dentist that is in the same plaza of my favorite food places.. 🙂 … When I first called in, I felt like I was asking them a lot of questions- they were very nice and accommodating on the phone- even so, in person! I’ve gone to a lot of local dentists who offer “really good deals” but sorry I have become a skeptic if it is just too cheap! Ali and Dee, They verified my insurances and I understood exactly what treatment they would do to me. Dr Shawn and his staff took time to explain to me everything. From the X-rays, the 3D CT scan (which I was told may not be covered by my insurance) IT’S OKAY!!! If they didn’t do it I wouldn’t know I had an infection that was already so close to my sinuses! Small cost to pay for such great service! Glad to have found them!

My mother had been having pain for a while now. We decided to visit Dr. Shawn Hofkes after a very high reccomendation from a family member who visited him a few months ago for wisdom teeth extraction. The office: Very convenient location right off the 605. The office is on the 2nd floor of a large shopping center. Plenty of parking…we parked in the shade because it was hot! The office itself had a very calming atmosphere. The receptionist was super friendly and welcoming. The Doc: Big genuine smile on his face as soon as he walked up to greet us. Dude he is tall! Lol. Anywhoo…He made my mom feel comfortable even though she didn’t speak any English. She got a really cool panaramic xray done by Laurie, a very sweet dental assistant. We told him about my mom’s pain and possible tooth infection. He looked at the xray and took the time to answer our questions and explain to us all the problems he could see, while i tried to translate. I felt bad for him becuase my mom has some pretty gnarly teeth! (I can say that because she wont be able to read this) Unfortunately, she needed 2 teeth out asap due to infection. The procedure: You guys, no BS, both teeth came out so fast she barely got through the first scene of Shanghai Noon! (BTW in the surgery room there is a TV! With Netflix! And u get to choose what you want to see!) He is a pro! I am still in shock… My mom with her horrible teeth have been to a number of dentists over the years for extractions, bridges, crowns, root canals…you name it. She said hands down the best dentist she has ever been to is Dr. Hofkes. He is kind, gentle, patient and understanding…everything you could ever wish for in a doctor. He really really cares! My mom loves him! Needless to say, Dr. Hofkes is the only dentist she will see from now on. We are truly very thankful for such an amazing experience with Dr. Hofkes and his lovely staff. See you all soon!

Let me preface this review by saying that I am have am very much a scardy cat when it comes to going to the dentist. So when my wisdom tooth starting acting up, I put it on hold for as long as I possibly could. It wasn’t until my fiance recommended Dr. Shawn! Everyone in this office is so welcoming, and kind, and really make you feel at ease. I was greeted by the sweetest receptionists (who were very cautions with checking me in due to COVID) I felt so comfortable. They also took this 360 degree X-RAY which was the coolest/easiest x-ray I have ever taken and it took detailed images of my whole mouth. Dr. Shawn then thoroughly explained what needed to be done and answered all the questions I had. Once it was time for the surgery, they explained the process and what I would expect during the procedure, the dental assistant even put Vaseline on my lips so they wouldn’t get too dry. Within 15 minutes, my very stubborn wisdom tooth was out and the  stitches were in! They also provided me with an after care bag which had all the essentials I needed. One day post-op and I was back to normal and feeling good, didn’t even have any swelling (followed the 20 minutes on/off ice pack suggestion). This is the best place you can go, and I will be telling everyone about Dr. Shawn!

i am terrified of DENTISTS!!! i originally called in for dental work to be done under sedation. i asked what is covered and what’s not covered by my dental insurance. they helped me get a PreAuth for all the dental procedures- i am grateful my dad has good dental insurance and the staff (the Front office! Ms Ally and Ms Dion) they both helped me get my excuse letter for school, made arrangements for my dental appointments! i thought it was normal to have a crowded waiting area and it was normal to wait for a long time to be seen by the dentist. Dr Shawn and his staff really respects me and my parents’ time. Lori and Madelyn were both wonderful chairside assistants- great bedside manners! i realized, the reason i was so afraid was, i didn’t know what to expect from the dental treatments. Whew! SO glad my mom and dad agreed to having me get that 3D CT SCAN (which is Digital, by the way)… i NOW have a better understanding of my dental health. Dr Shawn and Staff- you changed my whole perception of dentists. THANK YOU!

I have been going Cerritos Dental Surgery for some time now and I can honestly say, I have never been excited to go to the dentist until I came across this gem. Dr. Shawn Hofkes and his Staff are clearly the best at their field.  Let’s me start with the dental assistant, Lorie. She’s friendly, helpful, and clearly very passionate about what she does. With her warm personality, she helps gives the office welcoming and inviting atmosphere. Maryanne, the hygienist, is one of the most energetic people I’ve ever seen. When I come in for my teeth cleanings, she help me feel calm and at ease. She is pleasant to be around, very professional, and keeps me in check when she notices I’m not keeping up on my brushings as I should. (Trust me, she knows) Dionne, the office manager, is kind and accommodating. When I had an issue regarding payment when I was switching from one insurance to another, she quickly laid out other options and helped what should’ve have been a problematic matter, stress-free. Last but not least, the great Dr. Shawn Hofkes himself. When he gave me my check-up, he was very informative, engaging, and direct. He lays out everything for you step by step and keeps you involved in your dental health. He has the latest gadgets, not to mention TVs at each station positioned to where you will be looking at so that you’re not looking at a wall or ceiling like most other dental offices. I think it’s nice to binge on some Netflix while getting some dental work done to keep your mind off of that dreaded dental drill sound. It’s a dental office built around the idea of the patient being comfortable and I like it! You guys are the best!

I was referred over directly by my insurance to have 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted. Sat down for a consultation on 8/31/18 at 10:30am, was seated in a chair about 15 minutes after filling out some forms, and walked out of the office an hour later with a fat estimate and a scheduled extraction date. Having gone to a family dentist for the past 5 years, I was definitely skeptical of the cost. Why wasn’t my insurance covering X, Y, and Z? Cerritos Dental Surgery included a 3D CT Scan of my teeth to get the “best view” of where my wisdom teeth were, and how close they were to any nerves, which was done the same day as my consultation. $295, not covered by insurance (ugh). This scan is a technology that’s unique to Cerritos Dental Surgery, so I understand why they try and push it (not forcibly by any means; just strongly recommended.) The doctor saw my panoramic x-ray, and suggested that it wasn’t detailed enough to give any sort of insight to how difficult or easy extracting my wisdom teeth would be. So there’s that. $295 for a 5-6 minute scan that was paid completely out of pocket. If you have MetLife dental insurance, you’re in luck. As far as I know, they’re the only known/common insurance that covers the 3D CT scan. So after that was done, Allie broke down my quote. To my best judgment, she’s extremely thorough and knowledgeable. However, after hearing the numbers, my insurance company and I were still baffled by the cost. Minus the out of pocket CT scan, everything still seemed pretty high. Either way, knowing that I needed to get my wisdom teeth out, I ended up going with a payment plan via Care Credit. With my bill being so high, I was able to get 0% for 6 months. Pretty typical for Care Credit, as I’ve used my credit line in the past with them. Allie is definitely the one to talk to about all the financials. So my appointment date rolls around on 9/7/18 at 1pm. I took the necessary precautions and instructions that were given to me on my consultation date. My cleaning was scheduled right before my extraction. Carla was my dental hygienist. I hate the sound of scraping on my teeth, but she did a hands-down excellent job with my teeth. So disregarding the painful-sounding scraping, my teeth were exceptionally clean. Highly recommend her services. Then came the extraction at 2pm. Lori is THE coolest surgical assistant. While I was waiting for my nitrous oxide gas to kick in, we got to talking and laughing. The doctor walked in and wondered why my heart rate was getting higher, and basically ended up telling me to stop joking around and to focus on my breathing. Seriously such a good time being on nitrous + hanging out with Lori. Highly recommend. After numbing gel was applied, Dr. Shawn Hofkes went in with the anesthesia (pretty aggressively, I might add — but in the best way possible?) It all happened so quickly. My top teeth were extracted within about 30-60 seconds each. Meanwhile, Dr. Hofkes joked around and even started hum-singing during the process. Oddly enough, it made me feel like wisdom teeth extractions were an absolute breeze for him. My bottom wisdom tooth extraction took a little longer because it was so deeply rooted (and right next to my jaw bone and nerve, which was seen because of the CT scan.) After a little tugging and some pressure, I was stitched up, and left alone. The entire extraction process took about 15-25 minutes after all of my numbing was applied and working. I was impressed with the efficiency and the overall pain-free process. Dr. Hofkes is most definitely highly skilled at what he does. So although I look like half a chipmunk today, with swelling only on my bottom right side, I have literally never been happier to have gone to a dentist. I have a follow up scheduled in 10 days, and will be going back to 1) see how my healing is going, and 2) set up an entire dental plan with them (for my newly discovered cavities and stuff.) In conclusion, the only reason why I’m writing an essay for my review is because I absolutely DESPISE going to the dentist, as I know a lot of my fellow Yelp peers do too. Although Cerritos Dental Surgery isn’t the cheapest place in the world, “quality over quantity” definitely suits their business. Despite having to pay a ridiculous amount out-of-pocket, I will definitely be back for my regular cleanings and other dental work. 10/10 would recommend. Thanks for the great day, Cerritos Dental Surgery, and specifically to Allie, Carla, Lori, and Dr. Hofkes! I’ll see you guys again soon!

My first review goes to Dr. Shawn Hofkes and his staff at Cerritos Dental Surgery. I was always scared of meeting new doctors or dentists because I dont know how comfortable I will be with them. But everyone at this place made me feel welcomed and helped me as if I had been going there for years! It really helps out scared patients like me when you feel like you are in good hands I went in for my wisdom tooth. Dr. Hofkes discussed options with me, which I really appreciate because I can tell how sincere he was to help me. The level of hospitality at this place is beyond A+. The actual procedure was not as terrifying as I thought it would be. Dr. Hofkes asked me to pick something that I want to watch on Netflix. The closed captioning was on so even though they’re working on you, you could still understand what you’re watching (What a brilliant idea!). My wisdom tooth was extracted at least 15 minutes in (est. time) to the CSI: NY episode that I picked. The service after the procedure is AMAZING. Anytime I had a question, they’re always a phone call away and are willing to answer any questions. Kudos to Ali for her cheerful attitude and willingness to help patients like me who call in for further questions   If you need a dentist, you can’t go wrong with Cerritos Dental Surgery!

So I don’t really leave reviews unless it’s really bad or outstandingly great! And this office deserves all 5 Stars and more. So 4-5 years ago I had a little accident at the club where I had a little too much to drink and I fell and landed on my face which knocked out my front teeth. So since then I have been wearing partial dentures because I couldn’t afford implants at the time. I didn’t really mind wearing the dentures coz I had gotten use to it but they started getting loose so I had to put fixodent and that was annoying and it started effecting my dating life. There was time when I was on a date with this guy that I really liked and I forgot to put the glue on my partial it fell out when I was laughing. OMG I wanted to die!!!! Well that was the end of that date and I’m off the market til I get some new grills. So I went on Yelp and looked up some Dentist in my area that can do surgery and restorations and came across Cerritos Dental Surgery. I called to make my appt and spoke with Allie. She was very nice. When I came in for my appt I was very nervous. I was greeted by Allie and Dionne in the front. They were very welcoming and offered me coffee and water while I filled out my paperwork. As soon as I was done it didn’t take long for the Assistants to call me back for my X-rays. I was greeted by Maddie and she took my CT Scan which was pretty cool. Then I went to the room and was greeted by the other assistant name Lorie. They were both so nice and very welcoming. Then I met Dr Hofkes. He was super cool and answered all my questions. He laid down all my options and explained the pros and cons. So I went with the implant option I didn’t want another denture. Then Dionne the office manager came in and explained the different types of payment options that would work best for me. She answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable. Overall my experience here has been great and I finally have my new permanent teeth… total make over! Thank you Cerritos Dental Surgery for putting me back on the market and I’ll be continuing to see you guys!

I was researching different oral surgeons to do all for my wisdom teeth out once. When it comes to oral surgeries you can’t be so cheap about these once-in-a-lifetime things. Cerritos dental surgery definitely had a above average rate for my operation but also their caliber was higher than most dental offices. All of the rooms have some type of Netflix TV that you can watch movies or TV shows as you’re getting your surgery performed. The parking at this location is great as long as you park on the east side of the parking lot, closer to the Toys “R” Us section. Dr. Shawn performed my oral surgery today. I feel happy when he told his assistance to bring out emergency devices as I was getting the surgery done so that he can respond to something that went totally wrong. I like the preparation for catastrophe mentality in this Doctor. The staffing and at the offices is small which means that your paperwork or documentation won’t get lost easily compared to another big dental office with rotating personnel. My advice with surgery at this office is to watch Futurama while sedated. Watching Bender win a galaxy poker match while banging a robot mob boss wife in outer space on a bad ass TV was mind altering…

I recently switched to a dentist who referred me to Dr. Shawn Hofkes for a root canal that she could not perform herself due to the difficult angle of the tooth and the lack of tools to do so. Normally I dread going to the dentist. However this experience changed my mind. The staff is welcoming and friendly the moment you walk in the door. I was nervous about the root canal because I have never had one before, but Dr. Shawn Hofkes shown me the process before the procedure which greatly calmed my nerves. A great experience for me was when one of the staff members noticed my broken retainer. I’ve been bugging my orthodontist about it only for him to tell me that it was fine and when I called my orthodontist for an appointment to look at it after another piece broke off, they hung up on me. The staff at Cerritos took the time to actually make me another retainer that feels even more comfortable from when I first received one from my orthodontist. Usually I get some sort of harsh criticism from the dentist but I haven’t had them tell me anything that discouraged me from going back to the dentist.

My 1st review ever and I cannot believe it’s about my dentist! But this is just how great they are! I had been putting off having a painful wisdom tooth looked at until I woke up the day before Christmas eve in excruciation pain and looking like a chipmunk. I had driven by Cerritos Dental surgery before so I called in and Allie who was super nice & pleasant was able to squeeze me in on such short notice. I was told to expect a wait (as expected) since i was a walk-in, but there was no wait at all! as soon as I finished my paperwork I was on my way in. They were very quick to take some x-rays, and the girl who took them was very gentle since I was in so much pain! I was quickly in a room & I literally waited not more than 10 minutes and Dr. Shawn’s assistant (sorry I am horrible with names) went in to apologize for the wait and started asking how I was and explained some things I could expect. Shortly after Dr. Shawn went in and looked at my x-rays he told me I needed an extraction. I really liked that although I had other issues going on that were just pointed out they only focused on my one current and most urgent matter. Dr. Shawn explained the procedure I told him that I am very terrified of having dental work and wanted to be sedated, he made me feel very comfortable and scheduled me for when the anesthesiologist was there. I just went in yesterday to have my wisdom tooth extracted I was sedated so i have no idea how long it took. But i was on my way home in an hour. Dr. Hussain the anesthesiologist was great too and made me feel very comfortable before the sedation. He also called the day before to give me all of the necessary instructions and answer any questions. Dr. Shawn was awesome as I am in no pain whatsoever. I received a follow-up call today to see how I was doing. All I can say is THANK YOU. I am so  glad i chose Cerritos Dental Surgery for this procedure. I will definitely be recommending them!

Drop what you are doing, dump your old dentist (even if you’ve been with him/her for 40 years) and call Dr Hofkes! He is a fabulous dentist. The office staff and hygienists are wonderful to work with. This is not your typical stuffy dentist office. We received a flyer in the mail for a free 3D scan and a discount off of dental surgery. The dentist I had been going to has been wonderful, but expensive, so I thought I would give Dr. Hofkes a shot. I sure am glad I did! They worked with both my boyfriend and me. Dr. Shawn is very down to earth, young and has all of the latest technology and gadgets. From the first time I stepped foot into the office I felt like he had been my dentist for years. Oh, and they give you free coffee and water!   I highly recommend Cerritos Dental Surgery and Dr. Shawn Hofkes DDS.

This is a dental office that cares about doing what’s right for the patient! Dr. Shawn is kind, patient, detail oriented, he is an expert and knowledgeable in all aspects of dentistry. My 7 year old son was in excruciating pain because he cracked his permanent front tooth severely. Not only was it an issue cosmetically, but we were quite concerned about the health of the tooth. He could not eat or drink. He was seen by his Pediatic dentist who was unable to bond the tooth or completely seal it off (to stop the pain). As parents we were exasperated and felt helpless. Jennifer took our call, she was so kind and reassuring. She empathized with us, and was able to squeeze us into a fully booked schedule after speaking with the doctor who so Graciously agreed to see us. We were new patients and this was our first experience with the office. Most surgeons don’t squeeze first time patients in like this, so we are very grateful for the office accommodating us! Dr. Shawn not only sealed the tooth and stopped the pain, he took X-rays and ensured it was healthy! His X-ray machine is digital, not like the old school film that has to be developed. It offers a low radiation exposure and is state of the art. He was able to bond the tooth, on the spot! He is a master of cosmetic dentistry and didn’t stop until it looked aesthetically pleasing and symmetrical! The tooth looks better than before he chipped it ! All of this was done while our 7 year old watched his favorite show on Netflix. That’s right, each exam room has a beautiful flat screen TV and Netflix capability. Those of you that have met our son, know how active he is.. he is not the easiest patient especially while in pain. Dr. Shawn and his staff made him feel so at ease, he fell asleep during the procedure. As a mother I will never be able to thank you for doing what others could not, and resolving my son’s pain! Thank you to the entire staff. I didn’t mention everyone by name but you are all hand picked for a reason. Wonderful and kind assistants, and office personnel… You hold a dear place in our hearts. Thank you ! (The photo in the RED shirt is after the tooth was repaired)

My visit to Cerritos Dental Surgery was the best experience I’ve ever had at any doctor’s office. I went in earlier today for a consultation about my wisdom tooth (after reading the glowing reviews on yelp) and Dr. Hofkes said he could take it out right then and there. I thought I’d have to schedule another appointment for the actual surgery weeks later and stress myself out about it the whole time. The procedure was so fast i couldn’t believe it was over. Some highlights:*Bottled water and coffee for patients*Very modern, clean office right above 85 degree bakery (the best pastries..yummy!!)*Incredibly sweet and patient reception staff.*Kind, caring surgical assistant name Neng who did my x-rays and calmed me down once I was in the chair *Dr. Hofkes walked me through my x-rays and gave me a great overview of exactly why it was in my best interest to have the tooth out that day, and told me everything he was going to do to get it out.*The Nitrous oxide (laugh gas) really helped calm me down.*Dr. Hofkes administered a few shots of Novocaine that I could barely feel.*Less than 10 minutes and a lot of jokes/laughing later, the tooth was out and I was stitched up! I seriously did not feel a thing. Now, a mere 5 hours later, I’m wondering what I felt so nervous about. The whole experience was a breeze and Dr. Hofkes and his staff are some of the best medical professionals I’ve ever met. Go here, you won’t regret it.

Had a great experience here from scheduling, staff, Dr. Hofkes, and every then the surgery itself! The front office staff was easy to talk to and very accommodating for my schedule. Upon arriving I was addressed by name and was called back very promptly. Dr. Hofkes and his assistants were very patient to prep me and listen to any concerns I had about my third molar extractions. Surgery went smoothly and I was back to chasing around my 1 and 6 year old children just a few hours later. Dr. Hofkes definitely is experienced and has excellent surgical techniques and I have no hesitation to refer anyone to him or even come back as a patient! Thank you!

i am terrified of DENTISTS!!!   i originally called in for dental work to be done under sedation.  i asked what is covered and what’s not covered by my dental insurance.  they helped me get a PreAuth for all the dental procedures- i am grateful my dad has good dental insurance and the staff (the Front office! THANK YOU!

After the long search for finding a someone I feel comfortable with to remove my wisdom teeth without breaking the bank (broke College Student), the search ended here. Dr. Hofkes and his wonderful staff are the best and only way to go. They are willing to work with you if money is a issue. I’m sure we all know that nervous feeling meeting a new dentist, but this was different. Waking in I was instantly greeted by there friendly staff and instantly felt welcomed. If you had any questions about the paper work or anything they answer it  no problem. I was then brought in to get X-Rays and might I say I it was a sight. I’ve never seen so great sophisticated machine. I waited for Dr. H to come and we went over the x-rays and the images were something never seen before. The images came out 3-D color coded you couldn’t miss a thing. At the time I just got over a cold and it detected some liquid in my sinuses it was insane. Dr. Hofkes was very professional, confident, nice, and explained everything about the procedure. A week went by, and it was time. Now the procedure what can I say. I was pretty nervous about the whole thing especially since my bottom wisdom teeth were moving down and almost impacting the nerve of my which had a possibility of some complications, but it didn’t phase Dr. Hofkes he understood the delicate matter and continued with no problem. That day I got all 4 wisdom teeth extracted without getting put under. Lorie the assistant was awesome from helping me get comfortable with Netflix and setting up for surgery to assisting the surgery she was phenomenal. Everything was a success and I honestly say I couldn’t say anymore positive and great things about them. Just trust me when I say this, you will not find a better Doctor and staff better than this. After that experience Dr. H will be my primary dentist. I promise you this is the best and the only way to go.

Thank you Dr. Hofkes for the great experience and quality work you have done on my teeth. I am usually apprehensive about needles and it was no sweat at all. And thank you also to your wonderful hot Assistants Lorie and Madi for making me feel comfortable. In fact, I am ready for the next needle, thanks to your gentle touch. My family and I have been pleased with your professional, yet personable, service. See you soon. Sam

I would highly recommend this office for both children and adults. Dr. Shawn Hofkes is an amazing professional who treats everyone with class. He’s down to Earth and great with kids. He was able to fix my Son’s broken (front) teeth, when we were turned away by another office. It seemed like his heart ached right with ours to see a child in pain. They have accommodated our family time and time again, making room in their schedule to see us.  Dr. Shawn extracted a tooth for me back in June. I chose not to be sedated and Just have local anesthetic. He was so reassuring and honored my wishes. He explained every step of the process as he went. I felt safe and comfortable with him. He had a wonderful assistant through out the process ( I will update this review with her name). She was so experienced and made the procedure seamless! They were a wonderful team. Most dentists would prefer the patient be asleep for a difficult extraction like this, but he didn’t mind putting forth the extra effort of reassuring me while performed surgery. He was available after hours to answer questions and they even called to check on me the next day.  I’ve had several cleanings at this office by their hygienist, sokee (I hope I didn’t misspell her name) and she’s an absolute doll. She’s very light handed, and gentle. She makes great conversation while she works and the time passes quickly. She’s an expert in her field.  Dr. Shawn has a great front office staff, but Jennifer holds a special place in my heart. She is the one who took my call regarding the incident with our 7 year old’s front teeth. From that moment on, she has been such a blessing. She is gracious and sweet. This women exudes kindness (and beauty). She’s empathetic and very bright. Jennifer is such an asset to the patients and the staff of Cerritos Dental Surgery. She is a calming force, and quieted my anxiety on many occasions. The office is very clean and offers Tv/Netflix in every room. The facility is immaculate. They offer water while you wait, and a trendy selection of furniture. They are very thoughtful of insurance and cost To the patient. They all seem to be experts in benefits/ eligibility. It’s refreshing to have an office that will do the work for you. If you have had bad experiences in the past/anxiety… this office will be vastly different.  Dr. Shawn has great equipment, a wonderful staff, immaculate office and they actually care about the experience they deliver.  nTo the staff of Cerritos Dental Surgery; thank you so much !!

TGFY – Thank Goodness for Yelp. Searching for new doctors are one of those things I hate doing. And seriously, THANK GOODNESS FOR YELP, I found Cerritos Dental Surgery. My first visit included an x-ray exam and dental cleaning. Dr. Shawn Hofkes is knowledgeable and friendly. My hygienist, Sookie, is bubbly and such a fun person to talk to. She’s gentle, caring, and very thorough cleaning my teeth. Fast forward 6 months later, I’m back for my semi-annual cleaning and I’m so happy with my choice of doctor and facility. The staff is incredibly warm, friendly, and accommodating. They have such a good relationship with their patients. They also are good at communicating insurance coverages and what to expect. For my recent visit, I had to reschedule my appointment and they fit me in. The facilities are clean and modern, yet warm and welcoming. In the waiting area, there are comfy couches, magazines, and free coffee and water. I trust Dr Hofkes and his staff and know I’m in good hands. Now I want to get the husband to switch to Cerritos Dental Surgery.

Cerritos Dental Surgery is very good about making you feel comfortable. From the front staff to back staff everyone is very friendly and attentive. The wait time was very minimal I was out in just about 1 hour. The assistant who was setting up for Dr. Shawn was very nice and even asked what I wanted to watch on Netflix while the numbing medication kicked in. I was a bit nervous since I was getting my upper wisdom teeth extracted so watching tv was a way for me to get distracted from whatever I was nervous about. Well let me tell you I was nervous for nothing! After the numbing medication kicked in Dr. Shawn explained what he was going to do next and in a few minutes my wisdom teeth were out! I didn’t feel a thing and I was relieved there was no pain. I did take 1 ibuprofen a few hours after the numbing medication wore off just in case I did feel any discomfort. It is day after my appointment and so far I have no swelling and I still don’t feel pain or any major discomfort. My mouth is a little sore but that’s about it.

5 stars!  Could it be?  Yes- it’s as good as it gets.  I had a bit of a hiccup that almost prevented me from going back (I didn’t get a phone call about a change in my plan), but I’m really glad I gave them another chance.   Ambience: It’s downright cheery in their office, which is not something I experience often in dentistry.  Reception and the Dr. Shawn Hofkes are wonderfully positive and helpful. The atmosphere of the office is relaxed and welcoming- music is great (yes, this is a factor), and everything is new. Work: So had all sorts of stuff going on: –  Cleaning:  not cringy and screechy.  Lots of suction so I’m not dribbling saliva everywhere.  Sensitive spots were immediately addressed and avoided- she paid lots of attention.  And I hate having my teeth cleaned.  Hate.  It.   –  Crowns:  two of them.  Yes- two.  They were thorough and again, attentive to my tense flinchiness.  I think being offered Netflix to watch (Stranger Things was my choice) helped a boatload.  One temporary crown came off and they had it back on the next day in less than 15min. Permanent crowns went in with a bit of jiggling and wiggling.  Dr. Hofkes took the time to make sure they sat perfectly.  It took a while, but he really got it right. –  Wisdom tooth:  came straight out.  A bit of pulling, but a lot of numbing, so not discomforting. Insurance:   Easy peasy.  I don’t even know what happened, but they just took care of it. Parking and such: Only drawback – this plaza is busy all the time.  The only way to get to the office is to go up the elevator to the left of Gen. I will go back for as long as they keep up this top notch service.

Incredible! If I can give, 10 stars I would! Dr. Shawn was awesome! I went in for a consultation and scan in regards to my left upper and lower wisdom teeth. By the end our our consultation I was nervous but just as excited to have this done. He explained everything in depth and what he recommend what he believed was the best route for me, and I couldn’t have agreed more I was given he informed consent in detail and I also applied for Care Credit which I have used before! Dr. Shawn and his assistants made sure I was comfortable before proceeding. I decided to use conscious sedation after having a tablet and laughing gas to first relax me. Procedure went well and pretty fast about 30 minutes. He removed both wisdom teeth and did a bone graft on one. I was given ibuprofen for inflammation and a prescription for antibiotics and pain medication. As for my post op which is today and I as writing this I am feeling absolutely no pain at all, just a little bit of soreness which is expected. Last but not least the ladies front and back office were amazing! Every single one of them was extremely informative, helpful, and caring! Thank you sooo much Dr. Shawn to you and your amazing staff! Will be definitely recommending your office.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hofkes and his staff! I’m always greeted with a hello and a smile like I was just there yesterday. The office is always SPOTLESS and welcoming. Let’s face it, the dentist isn’t everyone’s favorite place to be, but Lorie always gets me settled in and comfortable and Dr. Hofkes takes the time to make sure all of my questions and concerns are discussed before we move forward with anything. I never feel pressured into unnecessary work and the work I’ve had done has been done well and done painlessly! I’m disabled and recovering from back surgery and everyone is always so patient when I need a break and are constantly making sure I’m comfortable. They literally do everything in office from general exams to wisdom teeth removal. They even do work under sedation if you want it…just tell them to crank up the good stuff! Lol

I’m generally not one to take the time out of my busy schedule to write a yelp review. However, I do make exceptions when I am exceptionally happy with an experience I have had.  My 16yr old daughter, Ashley, needs to have all 4 of her wisdom teeth removed and I have been researching oral surgeons for nearly a month. I had an extremely unpleasant experience at another office when I had my own wisdom teeth extracted and wanted to ensure Ashley did not have to endure the same type of treatment. Prior to scheduling the extraction surgery, I brought Ashley in for x-rays and a cleaning. The office was very inviting; they even had a Keurig for me to make some fresh coffee while I waited. The ladies in the front office were friendly and informative. They answered all of my questions and made the usually painful process of filling out paperwork quick and easy. Dion was particularly helpful in reviewing the different options available for Ashley’s surgery and anesthesia, to ensure she will have the best experience possible. They have an AMAZING RDH, named Maryann, who cleaned Ashley’s teeth and took her xrays. Maryann’s expertise, gentle touch, and great sense of humor, combined with their cutting edge equipment, made the process quick and painless for Ashley. Once Maryann was done with the cleaning she invited me in to the back room to talk with Dr. Hofkes about the recommendations for Ashley’s procedure. Dr Hofkes is down to earth, personable, and patiently answered all of Ashley’s questions, putting her at ease and relieving some of the anxiety she had about having teeth extracted. We have her surgery scheduled in 2 weeks and I feel completely comfortable that I made the right decision. I will update my review again after Ashley’s procedure. By far the friendliest, most professional dental office I have ever visited. So much so that I may end up switching from my current dentist to this office to have Maryann do my cleanings, despite the office being 30 minutes out of my way!

I first went to another dentist and they told me that I had a lot of cavities and that I needed to get a few root canals before they spread to my nerves. I wanted a second opinion hoping I wouldn’t need them being that all operations would be paid out of my own pocket. I got referred to Dr. Hofkes and heard some good things so I wanted to stop by and give him a chance. When I got there, Dr. Hofkes and his staff made me feel very comfortable with the whole process from the beginning. I had a lot of questions that I felt anyone would eventually get annoyed but Lorie was very patient with me and was very informative with everything I needed to know. Turns out I just needed fillings which made my expenses a lot cheaper. I decided to give them a go for their honesty and customer service. Thanks guys, you guys deserve more than 5 stars. Best part is that it didn’t even hurt!

As I’m sitting in bed, feeling super numb after my boyfriend picked up a lovely prescription of Norco… I’m pretty happy my two pain-in-the-ass wisdom teeth are FINALLY OUT! I had my first consultation at Kenneth Cho dentistry (in La Habra), where their facility was just as nice, but I had a change of heart to go to a different place where my mom had suggested. Cerritos Dental Surgery wasn’t on my list until my mom’s reference fell through due to busy schedules so I went on Yelp to look at oral surgeons who did extractions… and found CDS! Upon reviewing the wisdom extraction feedbacks from people who got their wisdom molars/teeth pulled from Dr. Hofkes, I got a good gut feeling about him. I ended up calling past their office time yesterday night around 6:15 PM, and Dion (one of the staff) picked up and arranged a schedule for me the very next day! I was already in so much pain because my right jaw was swollen, gum was chewed up due to accidental biting (which caused more swelling), and my nasty toothache. I was looking forward to my appointment all day today and finally found my way into their lobby. (Second floor, on the corner inside the Gen BBQ plaza, above the North Shore Poke Co. ) I was greeted by the receptionist and signed paperwork. I sat down inside the surgery room as I waited for Dr. Hofkes to enter and consult with me about the surgery I was about to have. Looking at my x-ray, he saw that my bottom molars were rooted pretty badly and my gums were swollen from the infection. I told him I was ready to go with surgery after asking him a string of general questions, and found him to be really easy-going! His personality was pretty laid-back so I found my anxiety waning after just talking to him for a few minutes! 🙂 He prepped for surgery and as he does for all his patients, he let me choose a TV show on Netflix. I ended up choosing Narcos after suggesting it to him that it was a good show. A lot of drug cartel lingo and gunshots started to blare, so not sure if that was a good choice… Netflix wasn’t working initially so he spent a good moment trying to get it to work, JUST so that I could relax and concentrate on that! What a good guy. I had chosen local anesthesia, but he also had a variety of other anesthetics to choose from, including laughing gas (nitrous oxide), and oral sedation (swallow a pill and you’re out). He gave me 4 shots, which were slightly a pinch but if you focus on something else and close your eyes, it’ll start to numb right away! Halfway through the surgery, I felt some discomfort of a certain area where the numbing wasn’t fully covered so I alerted him and his kind wing-woman to re-insert another shot of the good stuff. They totally got me and he verbally confirmed saying “Alright, don’t worry, I’ll give you another round!” So another shot went in and I was good. I had my headphones on so I could drown out the sounds of them working on my teeth and it really helped. To be honest, I HATE the dentist visits, but with this one.. it was pretty smooth. I’m so glad I found Cerritos Dental Surgery on Yelp! Thank you to Dr. Hofkes and his amazing team. You guys were very attentive pre-op and post-op.. gave me a sufficient amount of gauze to work with for the full 24 hours, and gave me great instructions. I have a follow-up in 2 weeks so I’m ready to meet them up to have them check on my post-op progress. I highly recommend them for wisdom teeth extraction procedures. Thanks again guys!

My mother had been having pain for a while now. We decided to visit Dr. Shawn Hofkes after a very high recommendation from a family member who visited him a few months ago for wisdom teeth extraction. The office: Very convenient location right off the 605. The office is on the 2nd floor of a large shopping center. Plenty of parking…we parked in the shade because it was hot! The office itself had a very calming atmosphere. The receptionist was super friendly and welcoming. The Doc: bBig genuine smile on his face as soon as he walked up to greet us. Dude he is tall! Lol. Anywhoo…He made my mom feel comfortable even though she didn’t speak any English. She got a really cool panoramic xray done by Laurie, a very sweet dental assistant. We told him about my mom’s pain and possible tooth infection. He looked at the xray and took the time to answer our questions and explain to us all the problems he could see, while i tried to translate.  I felt bad for him because my mom has some pretty gnarly teeth!

Love the 3D Cone Beam X-Ray, very updated technology. Did not even have to wear that heavy protective gear that one is used to. The image shows up right in front of you as you are taking the scan. Dr. Hofkes explained the procedure using the image so I understood what was going to happen (removed wisdom teeth). Made it very comfortable considering that your at a dental office. The procedure room(s) was set up to where the “tools” were behind the patient chair, tucked away, almost hidden from sight, which is very smart, helps with ones anxiety level. There are flat screens in every procedure room as well, to keep your entertained during the procedure! He stated that eventually the x-ray will show up there as well…How awesome is that…I can see he put much thought to how the patient would feel being at his dental office. Bedside manner is great. Has a pleasant demeanor, very informative, and answered every question I had with no hesitation. I feel that his skill level is above par compared to my past experiences at other dental offices. I’m wondering now if I can go there for my regular 6 month cleanings…if the service is provided, I will definitely switch. Support staff is wonderful. Explained in detail what I can and cannot eat after the procedure, what to expect, and what concerns to look out for during the healing process. Left with a doggy bag of supplies, tooth brush, tooth paste, and even a tooth looking golf tee. Sweet… Overall, a very updated office with “24th” century technology (yes, he has equipment from the future), great customer service, great skill level, and great support staff. Very happy with my visit with Dr. Hofkes at Cerritos Dental Surgery.
