I had braces 20 years ago. As I got older, I got a crown and my wisdom teeth grew in, which led to my teeth shifting. I heard positive things about Chang Orthodontics from a family member and a co-worker who’s son was a patient. I visited Dr. Chang in early 2010 because I was dissatisfied with my smile. The office blew me away. It is beautiful, has wi-fi, and free coffee. There’s a place to brush & floss your teeth before your appt. Staff was helpful and answered all of my questions. Trisha took impressions of my teeth and was cracking jokes to keep me from gagging on the impression goop. Dr. Chang made sure I had a thorough exam of my mouth and sent me downstairs to the x-ray tech for a complete scan. He said that adults run the risk of losing bone during shifting suggested I visit a dentist and a periodontist to be sure my teeth and gums could handle the strain of the wires. Once I was cleared, I got my braces in July 2010. I was given a lanyard with a reward card. If I had clean teeth and arrived on time I got points. I was able to use the points for gift cards. (Everyone knows I’m a sucker for rewards!) Usually, Nadine or Eddie would remove my wires and check my brackets. They were really nice and always made me feel comfortable. Dr. Chang would check on my progress using photos they took of me periodically. Make sure you look good at every appt. I never knew when they were going to take update photos and ended up with a few makeup-less pics. Lol! My braces lasted a bit longer than expected. (Word to the wise: wear your rubberbands to avoid longer treatment!) Dr. Chang is a perfectionist, so he made sure they were just right. I had them removed in November 2012. Now I just stick to wearing my retainers. My nighttime retainer is awesome. I asked for tie-dye Hello Kitty with glitter thinking I would stump them, but Diane, who designs the retainers, did an awesome job! I have a permanent wire retainer on the back of my bottom teeth. I have a clear plastic retainer for the top teeth to wear during the day. I also have a clear plastic retainer for the bottom teeth to wear at night. Dr. Chang carefully filed my chipped front teeth to make them look even straighter. The only downside is the parking. There is only one driveway, which makes for awkward moments. I usually backed into the parking spaces to make it easier to drive out. Now, I have several other family members, plus a friend that are receiving treatment here because of my new smile. This office may charge a little more than some other orthodontic offices, but is well worth the price. Remember, you get what you pay for! Dr. Chang is a professional and knows that the smile he creates is a billboard for his handiwork. I am really happy with my smile!

I went to Dr. Chang when I was 58 years old to correct an overbite and crooked teeth. His initiation staff was courteous and welcoming and derived a plan to fit my budget. Dr. Chang then worked his magic. He is the ultimate expert in his profession. He is meticulous, patient, kind hearted, soft spoken and has a very kind bedside manner. He always went the extra step to address my dental needs and ensure that I was completely satisfied with the treatment. His support staff is phenomenal. Eddie and Nancy who mainly attended to me always kept me informed of the progress and next steps. They are great caregivers. Sandra and Erin at the front desk treated me like family. Chang Orthodontics is the best! I’m an adult using Invisalign to finish fixing my bite that could only previously have been finished with major jaw surgery when I was a teenager (I had 6 years of braces and another 3 years of head gear back then). Dr. Chang will have me all fixed up here in another year or so with the office’s wonderful technology and no surgery! The office is a pleasure to visit and very professional. I’ll be taking my kids here when they’re ready, too.

Very impressed by the modern equipment! No more mold impressions!! All done by laser, photo equipment. Price may be a bit higher, but I am happy they are going to try a corrective retainer than braces. My kid’s teeth need an immediate remedy, but too early to put braces on. It will also set up placement Dr incoming teeth. Incentive program to earn rewards! Be on time, wear their shirt on appointment day. Makes a trip to the ortho more positive. All i can saw is WOW. The office is so clean and nice. Dr. Chang is the savior of my teeth. He made my teeth straight and i am a happy camper. All the people that work there are really nice and are always smiling. They like to show off their straight white teeth. I think he owns the whole building, but the office is upstairs. The first and probably only bad encounter is the parking. It’s a one way in and one way out parking lot that’s a little cramped at some times. When you first go up stairs, there are a lot of plants and it is really nice. When you walk in the secretary greets you and if your not a first timer you put your finger on the fingerprint reader and it signs you in. If that doesn’t work you can always just type your name in the computer. Then you walk through the office to the sinks where you brush your teeth so your teeth are clean before the appointment. Then you can either go back to the front room where the Food Channel is on, or to the children’s room where nickelodeon is on or some children movie. When you get called up you get to go to the dental chairs that are massage chairs! When your appointment is done you go the secretary’s desk and get a new appointment. They print you out a copy and your ready to go. If you sign up on their website, they will send you a notification a few days before your appointment to remind you. If you are required an x-ray for your teeth of any kind, you just go right down stairs so it is really convenient. You get a massage while you are getting your braces checked. The office used to be located on Howard, but i think with all his patients he had to get his own building. I’m not sure. haha. I have been going to Dr. Chang since i was in third grade. He is a really nice guy and i can tell that he is very hard working. If your thinking about getting braces for yourself or someone else, go to the website for for information.

I love this place. Braces are a scary, terrifying, and annoying thing to have but this place made having braces a not so bad experience. I was recommended here by my general dentist. The whole facility is designed like a giant aquarium. There’s a place where you can brush/ floss your teeth before the Doc sees you. They even have a mini entertainment center. Everything is colorful. I got to pick my retainer design and chose palm trees on a beach, which I still have until this day. When I had my braces and forgot to make an appt, they would call my home phone and leave messages until we contacted them back. Talk about being proactive. Sometimes they would even have these contests where you guess how many candies are in this giant jar and whoever gets the closest guess within the week/month wins the jar. I paid too many visits here in high school. The staff is great too. On a scale of Squidward to Spongebob in terms of customer service happiness, they’re at Spongebob’s level. They’re just always so happy to be straightening your teeth. The technicians and the doctors also really care about straightening your teeth, making it seem like your teeth are a work of art. I am a few of my many friends who had braces that still wear my retainers because I want to keep their quality of work longer lasting. I miss having braces and having regular visits here.

Dr. Chang and his entire staff are amazing. My daughter had Invisalign and my son had traditional braces. After seeing four other orthodontists for consults we chose Dr. Chang. His prices were right in line with the other orthodontists but Dr. Chang was the reason we chose his practice. Taking a nervous child to the orthodontist can be stressful. We just had an appointment with Dr. Chang and all I can say is WOW! This office is so Covid prepared. They have a handy sanitizer station on the patio. They check you in by text message and have you fill out a wellness form and take your temperature when you walk in. I have to say, we were nervous going to our appointment. Once we saw all the precautions and the set up to make sure we were safe we felt very at ease. Dr Chang has filtration systems throughout the office. I absolutely LOVED Dr. Chang, his office, and his staff. He was very detailed in explaining the extensive dental work that I need. I wish I could’ve done my treatment with them. Unfortunately, it’s quite pricey and his staff wasn’t very helpful in suggesting any individual/family insurance plans that they would accept. The out-of-pocket costs are just too expensive without insurance, however, if he’s in your PPO list, you absolutely MUST go to him – you will NOT be disappointed!

Russell Chang really is the best orthodontist. Go around town and ask other dentists and staff where they send their kids and spouses, if money is no object. They all will say Chang. He is better because he takes the time with diagnoses and does not treat every case the same way. He also has more advanced degrees than anyone else in town. Yes, good treatment is expensive. My son recently started treatment with Dr.Chang. From the initial call with Erin to the first appointment with Kim – everything has been more than I anticipated. Erin was so nice, and explained everything with so much detail as far as the first visit. The exam was about one hour in length, we had pictures and an exam done. Kim was beyond Helpful and very detailed. The exam was done by Dr. Chang WOW he is amazing!! He didn’t sugar coat anything, (my son has a difficult case and I know that) but the way he explained his plan for corrections I understood it. We will be part of this office for several years.Dr. Chang was highly referred and now I know why. The entire office is taking serious precautions with this whole pandemic, you will find air filters throughout the office, the team wearing masks, temperature checks, ect. waiting in car till we are ready to be seen. The girls in the front are awesome and so are the clinicians. Overall I am happy, my son had mild discomfort but is adapting well to the braces. I know my son is under good care with Dr. Chang.

Dr. Russell Chang is well known in the Los Alamitos community and beyond as a warm and caring professional who delivers outstanding orthodontic results. He works closely with both general dentists and specialists to provide the Chang Signature Smile for each patient. Dr. Chang follows in both his father's and grandfather's footsteps. His grandfather, Dr. Sau Yee Chang, was the first dentist on the island of Kauai and first Chinese American to be Vice President of the American Dental Association. Dr. Chang graduated from his grandfather’s alma mater, Northwestern University completing his residency in Orthodontics and Masters of Science degree in Cranial Facial Biology. Dr. Chang graduated high school from the Punahou School in Oahu, Hawaii. He completed his undergraduate studies and earned his dental degree from the University of Southern California. He has three wonderful children with his wife Dr. Stephanie Dodson Chang, a periodontist. In addition to being a long term member of the Cleft Lip and Palate Team at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, Dr. Chang has served as a lecturer and assistant professor in the Orthodontic Departments of the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles Schools of Dentistry. Dr. Chang also works with the Stramsky Center for Craniofacial Development at Miller Children’s Hospital. Technology, the most advanced clinical techniques, and instrumentation are critical to the outstanding results delivered by Dr. Chang and his Team. Attending many meetings both locally and internationally is a part of his routine on a frequent basis to keep ChangOrthodontics at the cutting edge of the art and science of orthodontic treatment. Dr. Chang has served as president of the Children's Dental Health Foundation at Memorial Hospital and the Rotary Club of Los Alamitos. He deeply cares for the Los Alamitos community and has worked with local charitable organizations over the years, including the Casa Youth Shelter and the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach.
