I met with him this week and was impressed by his genuine care and treatment, and by the technology that he used to show a clear picture of my teeth and areas that need attention. He created a treatment plan and went the extra mile to ensure that I understood and felt comfortable with the plan. I mean, seriously. He is amazing. I picked Dr. Chua since a friend recommended him to me & he’s close to where I live as well as the practice being there for many, many years. I got on Yelp to write a review right after my visit and to my SURPRISE saw the 2 negative reviews. I’m glad that I didn’t see their reviews before going to see Dr. Chua since they are completely unfounded and untrue. Also, they are old posts. Or it might be one of those ‘write a review only when you are unhappy’ while thousands of satisfied patients don’t write anything (same reason as those 1800 numbers on the back of commercial vehicles asking ‘how am I driving?’ – people usually don’t call unless there is a problem.) Anyways, MY EXPERIENCE WAS AMAZING. Aside from the cute waiting area (with a TV which I was watching the Price is Right…LOL), very nice receptionist, and TV on the patient chair; Dr. Chua’s work was PAIN-FREE, and very WELL DONE (not only were my cavities taken care of, my teeth’s surface stains were mostly removed while I didn’t get that from my previous dentists.) Dr. Chua constantly asked me how I was doing, and was EXTREMELY COURTEOUS throughout the procedure. He is VERY FRIENDLY too!!! At the end, he consulted with me and drew up a plan for me. He went on to recommend some more work to be done in future visits (replacing old mercury fillings and possibly getting ortho) but those were all recommendations; not at any time did I feel pressured to get anything done. The receptionist at the end of the visit CLEARLY explained to me what future work Dr. Chua recommended to get done and how much it would cost me and I agreed to get them done. It was a VERY PLEASANT experience and I’m definitely going to return and continue to visit Dr. Chua. Dr. Chua, just in case you are reading this, please get Reputation Defender services since the last 2 posts which are over 4 years old are very inaccurate.

well folks here goes… my wife needed extreme dental help and i am sure glad it was done by  derrick. im not sure what the negative reviews are talking about because the work he did on my wifes mouth was absolutely superb. i am very familiar with dentist s and at first meeting him i knew two things.1) he cares about his patients and 2) he knows what he is talking about. he pulled 7 teeth, 7 roots and fitted her with a fantastic looking denture. I trust him. yes it was expensive, but you get what you pay for and we definitely got incredible work done by him. I will continue to go to him for all my ( our ) dental needs.

If you are reading this then you have just found your dentist!!! There is no need to continue the search or if you aren’t really happy with your current dentist it’s time to switch to Dr. Chua. Yes I was one of those people who put off his annual trips to the dentist for far too long, and yes my teeth didn’t appreciate that approach. I FINALLY went to see Dr Chua from a recommendation from a friend, and that decision was truly life changing. From my initial visit he calmed my nerves (yes I was deathly afraid), and laid out a game plan for a healthy smile. We followed that to a “t” with no surprises either in procedures or costs. The work was extensive, and if you can believe it relatively painless. I am now to the point of only requiring regular teeth cleanings. I could not have done this without Dr. Chua. Staff is great, and you can watch Netflix while he does his work. It’s 3 blocks from bart which makes it even easier. Whether you just need an x-ray or teeth cleaning, or followed my path of “dentist avoidance”…go see Dr Chua!!!

I had a history of bad experiences at the Dentist office until recently. I can finally say I am entirely satisfied with my current choice of dentist. When I was referred to Dr. Derrick Chua, I came into the appointment expecting to leave in a whole lot of pain. To my surprise, after an hour and half of working on my teeth, I was pain free with healthy, clean teeth. I went to Dr. Derrick a month before my wedding and he made sure my teeth and smile would turn out great for my wedding pictures. Dr. Derrick fixed a chip on my front tooth which to this day, almost three years later, is still looking perfect. The office is conveniently located with ample amount of parking space, the wait time is often minimal and all staff are extremely friendly. Dr. Derrick has made my dental appointments a pleasant visit. I will no longer take years in between visits and now make regular visits for routine work. This will be my dentist for as long as I live in the area and when my kids are of age, I will bring them to Bridgepointe Family Dental Care.

Love Dr. Chua and his staff! I came here with a lot of dental issues ( insurance, limited funds, permanent retainer, cavities, etc) and they came up with a plan that worked for me. Dr. Chua recommended a water pick/flosser after they found 4 cavities and all I can say is wow! I can’t believe I haven’t used one before. Brushing your teeth is simply to freshen, water picks actually clean your gums and teeth. You have to see it to believe it but trust me, you will never go back to regular floss. Amazing experience all around and  am thrilled with all the work they have done so far.

Went to Dr. Chua for a last minute wisdom tooth extraction. Dr. Chua was responsive and very accommodating. The procedure was done with local anesthesia and went smoothly. I relieved clear instructions on what to expect after and the recovery went smoothly. COVID precautions: masks were being worn by all except when a patient was in the chair. Hand sanitizer is provided and temperature checks are done at the door. I felt safe throughout. All in all, Dr. Chua was friendly and did a great job making me feel comfortable. Dr. Chua is the best dentist I have ever visited! First, you want a dentist who knows how to diagnose and properly treat you. Second, a good bedside manner is important, because we all know that getting dental work done just feels really traumatic. This second reason is why you kids need to GET TO A DENTIST today and don’t skip your 6 month checkup! That is my PSA for the day. Oh wow, Dr. Chua, where to begin about his level of expertise? He fixed two of my teeth and did so quickly, thoroughly, and really excellently. He is patient, thorough, and really did such a fantastic job on my teeth. He made sure the bite was right, he made sure to show me all the technology behind the curtain (as an aside, wow, what dentists do with laptops and cameras is astounding these days! My crown was not made from some awful tasting clay mold like back in the day, no, it was created by hundreds of photos of my bite, which are transmitted to a lab for the creation of the crown, yet I digress). As for bedside manner, I always *think* I am a good patient, but really who have I consulted except myself on this? I may be the worst. At any rate, wow, Dr. Chua is so kind and gentle. He checked in with me every step of the way through the processes (I had a root canal, a filling, and a crown from him). He never lets too much time go by before he checks in about your comfort level. He is kind and warm, and that may sound trite, but believe me, just the sound of the drill alone makes me feel terrible. Two more notes. His office manager, Elsy, is so wonderful. She made sure I was taken care of, comfortable while I waited, and she was very thorough with me about the billing process and expectations. She’s one of those women who, if you got rich and won the lottery, you would go and snatch her up and ask her to work for you! Lottie is the dental assistant, and wow, she really has a way of caring for you that makes you feel like you are in very trusted hands. My eyes water a bit during dental procedures, and she is always there to gently pat away the tears. I enjoy the interactions between Dr. Chua and Lottie and Elsy. He is very kind to them, and today he was telling Lottie that he ran across a former colleague of theirs at a recent conference. I literally chose them by accident and proximity to my job, but I will be returning for dental checkups as long as I live in SF. They are fair, kind, gentle, and provide the best care imaginable.

After a long while of not going to the dentist, I was worried I might be judged or told off when I visited Bridgepoint. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Dr Derrick and the rest of the staff are absolutely lovely. My husband found the dental practice through out insurance website and was given an appointment without having to wait more than a few days; I got an appointment shortly after. They took x-rays and pictures of my teeth and explained very well and thoroughly what needed to be done. After the initial assessment I had my first cleaning. It was quick and left my teeth feeling great! I needed to have several fillings and they proposed doing my right side first and then my left on a different day, so as not to have to apply anesthesia more than necessary; as well as a wisdom tooth extraction which would be performed at a later date. When I arrived for my first fillings, I was asked to choose a movie to watch while the doctor worked on my teeth. The list is pretty extensive and I was given bluetooth headphones so I could listen to the movie instead of the drilling in my mouth. The fillings were absolutely painless and I was out in ~30 minutes. Great experience! I went back today to have the fillings my left side done. Again, I was asked to choose a movie and time flew by. After finishing my fillings, Dr Derrick asked if I would like to have the extraction done straight away instead of waiting and, after a little apprehension, I agreed. I had only ever had one extraction before, as a child, and I remember it being extremely painful – this was nothing of the sort! Dr Derrick applied some extra anesthesia and took my wisdom tooth out without any pain whatsoever. I was incredibly surprised! I was given instructions on how to change the gauze to stop the bleeding and prescribed painkillers. Overall, my experience has been fantastic every time I have visited Bridgepointe Family Dental. I am looking forward to my next cleaning!

Dr. Chua and Lottie were great with their good work and compassion. I fractured two teeth really bad and chipped one in a bike accident. Dr. Chua was very helpful in keeping everyone calm and explaining everything to me and my boyfriend. Because a good friend of mine’s husband is also a dentist, he got to take a look at Dr. Chua’s work the day after it was done. He closely examined my gruesome teeth pictures after the trauma and Dr. Chua’s work and exclaimed (seriously exclaimed) that Dr. Chua did a real nice job and was impressed with his skills. Dr. Derrick Chua was fantastic. This was my first visit to him and I happened to go only 2 days before going back to school. During my visit, which was supposed to be a regular teeth cleaning, Dr. Chua gave me a deep gum cleaning to stop my gums from bleeding, and filled my cavity. I also informed him that I lost my nightguard, and he could tell I needed one ASAP to stop from grinding my teeth at night. Not only did he make me a mold of my teeth that day to make my nightguard, but he also made it durable enough to act dually as my retainer. Upon finding out that I was a basketball player, he threw in a complimentary new-age mouthguard from the same mold. On top of all his great service and kind conversation, Dr. Derrick Chua made all of these in just a couple hours after my visit so that I could try them on and make sure they fit before I left for school. He is a phenomenal dentist and made me feel at ease immediately after meeting him. He definitely takes care of his patients.

Dr. Derrick Chua, D.M.D. is a second generation dentist. With his mother and sister also practicing dentistry, you might say Dr. Derrick Chua, D.M.D. has dentistry in his blood. His doctorate in dentistry comes from Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia. His undergraduate degree is in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry at the University of California at Santa Cruz.When he is not in the office, He enjoys playing USTA tennis and spending time with family.As a board member for the Northern California Asian Dental Association, he meets with dental experts monthly to better serve his community.He loves cosmetic dentistry. Prior to establishing, Dr. Chua, completed hundreds of hours of courses in postgraduate dentistry. He is dedicated to the newest advancements in cosmetic dentistry and keeps up-to-date with the latest technologies. He is frequently among the first dentist to perfect and use the newer, more advanced techniques and equipment. I grew up in a family of dentists who have inspired me throughout my life. I looked on as she improved her patient’s health and livelihood through her work, and soon I had no question that I wanted to go into science and medicine, as well. After graduating from Temple University School of Dentistry, I joined the family practice and, years later, now run it as my own. Through collaboration with my mother and furthering my skills base with continuing education courses every 3­-4 weeks, I continue to learn and grow as a medical professional. I’m constantly excited about all of the changes, improvements, and new technologies coming to dentistry because they allow me to provide even better care to my patients. I treat a wide range of patients with varying professions and dental health goals at my practice. My ability to speak Tagalog, Fukienese, Mandarin, Spanish, and English allows me to connect with an even larger population in the Bay Area and run one of the most diverse practices in the city. I always take the time to educate my patients on preventative dentistry and overall health, putting the focus on health care rather than disease care. I am proud to offer a full range of services to my patients, so they can expect the same top­notch care for both their check­up cleanings and more specialized wisdom tooth extractions. I pride myself and the care I provide on the fact that many of my patients refer their loved ones to me for my compassionate, honest, and approachable attitude. My practice grows naturally through these word­of­mouth references and it’s great to meet new people who were referred to me by happy patients ­ it’s how I know I’m making patients happy. Whether my patients struggling with their dental health, their romantic life, or their finances, I truly listen and care about my patients’ lives. My patients are my friends and family.
