Dr Jan Delassen and his team are the best ever! I have a severe dental phobia, and they are the only dental team ever to work with me in such a positive, supportive manner. Super long post, when I read a review I really like to hear what happened. So, here’s the short story …. This is an awesome, friendly office! They serve wine! They worked with me on my dental phobia and my sensitive teeth, were transparent in their billing, and never, ever did anything to make me like I was rushed through or forced into treatment. Now, for the long story …. I have had horrible dental experiences through out the years with difficulty getting numb and staying numb, pain during procedures and cleaning, childhood dentists yelling at me during my procedures, dental accidents occurring while I was in the chair, and inability to open my mouth for months after a simple filling (twice!). I, on a weird and rare whim, called Exceptional Dental and was able to get an appointment the next evening (they stay late on Mondays and Tuesdays). I had heard they were good from a co-worker and that they served wine. My first appointment impressions: The waiting room was very upscale. I almost felt like I was going to a spa instead of the dentist. I was greeted immediately, and she seemed to magically know who I was. Yeah, I know there’s a computer there and it’s not hard to figure it out, but I received a warm, friendly greeting and not the cold, typical doctor’s office “sign in here” greeting. I only waited a few minutes even with me arriving 10 minutes early. I had a 3D oral scan and 2D xrays done. Apparently the 3D scan is to examine the bone structure which is something a 2D xray can’t do. I was only billed $60 for it and it was covered 100%. Then I was offered the wine! Ahhh…. I needed it! What I really loved about the first visit, was that he and his assistant really took their time in explaining things and they were very friendly and professional. I had a thorough medical history taken before we started the oral exam. Unfortunately I found out that had a few common dental issues; however, what he discovered didn’t surprise me. He was able to show me what he found and correlated it to the xrays that were on the screen in front of me. In the past, other dental teams would be abrasive and rude. Neither one used that tone with me, but instead mentioned how common these issues were and showed me the proper techniques and made recommendations for correcting them. Since I mentioned that I had a dental phobia, his assistant reassured me how common this was and asked me if I wanted to proceed with the cleaning. And while it may sound weird to those who don’t understand, it’s not unusual for someone with a dental phobia to prefer a separate cleaning later. But never did they say they wouldn’t do a cleaning as many of the reviews mention. She took her time doing the cleaning, and stopped and numbed my gums when I started to hurt – cleanings have always hurt my sensitive teeth but never has an assistant expressed concern and took the time to make sure I was comfortable the way she did. Now I do need two separate cleanings, but the reasoning behind this approach was thoroughly explained and understandable/reasonable. When I left, I scheduled my next two appointments. They provided a estimate of the cost of my services before scheduling anything. What they charged was extremely reasonable! No problems with my insurance… what they billed matched up with my insurance claim. Never, ever did I feel pressured. Over the next week, I panicked about my procedures and decided I needed some nitrous for them. So, I go in and ask more questions, explain the whole dental phobia in detail and never felt rushed. He had her put in my notes to have a glass of wine waiting for me when I arrive and to schedule extra time for me! They were completely transparent in the cost of the nitrous. On the day of my procedure, I was met with a glass of wine as promised. The staff were cool with me bringing my husband to rub my feet and hold my hand – it was non issue with them. I had headphones to drown out the drill noise and sunglasses so I didn’t have to squint…. They really did make sure I was comfortable before proceeding. Both were awesome in being supportive through out my whole procedure. He numbed my gums before injecting the numbing medicine and his technique for injections is awesome! Barely felt it. He frequently checked to make sure I was ok. He gave additional injections as needed as the medicine wore off. And he took his time, I never felt as though he was rushed, and I got the breaks I needed. This has been the best dental experience ever! Usually I rely upon yelp for helping me to choose places to go, and I’m so glad I didn’t let the star rating here keep me from going. I thankfully had a referral from a co-worker who loves this place, and really I can’t see why this place doesn’t have a full 5 star rating.
