Dr. Schulman is a dream dentist. For the past three years, my partner suffered through a series of merely ok and not-so-ok dentists to get reconstructive and cosmetic work done. The result was a bunch of bridgework that came loose and poked holes in his gums–a lot of pain in his mouth and still not happy with his smile. Me? I hadn’t had a cleaning in more years than I care to remember and was embarrassed to even go to the dentist. When we got a new, better DMO under my employer’s health care plan, we found Dr. Schulman. After we met him, I knew we’d found the dentist for us. He and his staff immediately made us feel at home and relaxed. My partner is in the process of getting major work done that is long overdue; I had a deep cleaning and need additional minor work. Now that we’re in the midst of it, I see we made the right choice. Not only is the dental care we’re receiving top quality, there’s the added nicety that Schulman isn’t just working on mouths to get through the day. He sincerely cares that the patient leaves his office not only happy with the work that was done but is comfortable. How many dentists do you know who PERSONALLY call you the next day after major work just to check in on you to see if you’re in pain or to make sure all’s well? Schulman does. Finally, he’s terrific personally, too: funny, a born story-teller (he loves entertaining with anecdotes about his dental school days at UCLA), embraces diversity–he makes us actually look forward going to the dentist. His hygienist and staff are top notch; Flor in his front office is a sweetheart. We have never waited more than 10 minutes after arriving for our appointment and the front office is never overcrowded, so one doesn’t have the sense that this is a “maximum headcount” business like so many dental and medical offices are. If you need additional work he can’t provide, he finds the right person for you and, in our case, even escorted us up several floors to introduce us to his colleague who’d be doing my partner’s root canals (Dr. Hiri Etassami, who we are also very happy with.) We recommend Schulman without reservation…especially if you need cosmetic work done and have been afraid to look into it because of fear of pain or getting crude-looking results. My partner is well on his way to having a beautiful smile for the first time in years and he’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long tim. When it comes to money/ insurance, Dr. Schulman is on the patient’s side. He doesn’t give you the hard sell for the most expensive option: he lays out all options, makes a recommendation, gives a cost estimate, and lets you decide. Once you decide, he will do everything he can to help you get the most out of your insurance plan so you’re getting the most for your money without sacrificing high quality work. What a relief to find this guy. Love him.
