It is such a relief to find Dr. chu, for starters, he agreed to see me on a Saturday right before he was about to close. I was having a dental emergency and he was kind enough to see me even when I was late, and that stood out to me. He is friendly, professional and knowledgeable at what he does within seconds he pointed out to me an issue that was causing me distress. Alot of doctors don’t pay attention or overlook some things, not Dr. Chu he is very thorough with his examination. Most importantly he puts his patients first, and at the end of the day isn’t that what we look for in a doctor? Thank you Dr. Chu

I was having an emergency with my tooth and had no insurance and didn’t know what to do. I called and Dr Chu answered immediately and got me in the office the next hour. Him and his staff were extremely friendly and professional and had everything set up safely and comfortably for covid which was something I was really nervous about when making the appointment. At the end he helped me out soo much, I’m completely healed. He was honest and did not try to sell me anything I did not need and In the end I didn’t have insurance and the cost didn’t even break my bank in the slightest! I will DEFINITELY be coming back here!!

I am the single biggest baby in the world when it comes to going to the dentist. I literally have avoided them like the plague, and in the process, developed a small plague in my mouth. Today, I had a severe gum abscess that required immediate help. I refused to go to a dentist but my lady’s a nurse and told me to stop being a baby and go. They took me in as a last minute walk up on Veterans Day. Edna and Dr. Chu are just about the friendly people on the planet. They were quick to ease my nerves and were calm and patient as they walked me through everything. It can’t be understated how comforting it is to have a dentist who explains everything they’re going to do. Dr. Chu has an extremely calm voice that makes you feel like everything is going to be okay. It takes a special kind of person to make you feel calm even though you’re writing in pain because there are needles left and right going into your gums. Yes, I had quite a painful procedure but having Dr. Chu calmly narrate everything that was happening made me feel assured that I was in the best possible hands. Edna also deserves lots of praise for being a great sidekick. They’re a wonderful team and I can’t recommend them enough.

I am the biggest scaredy-cat of dentists which is why after years of avoidant neglect I needed an emergency appointment due to an infected & loose wisdom tooth that should have come out in my younger years. Edna took my morning call & kindly told me they were booked that day. I explained my symptoms & asked if she could squeeze me in. She did. I think she & Dr. Chu worked on me during what would have been their lunch break. They were very kind, non-judgemental, gentle, & expedient. My avoidance was also due to the fact that I have a very low tolerance for pain yet a very high tolerance for meds. I always need a higher dosage of anesthesia than the average person. I told Dr. Chu this & he offered to gently test the area he administered Novocain. Sure enough, I felt that poking around & got a second dosage. I survived that emergency visit which resulted in the extraction of two wisdom teeth, and a follow-up appointment which resulted in a 3rd wisdom tooth extraction. We are still waiting to see if and how much my PPO will cover, but even if 100% out of pocket, the fees for the two office visits, exams, X-rays & procedures are much less than I feared they would be (around $500 in total). I have more work to do but am on a roll with a third appointment scheduled.

I love Dr Chu! He is a great dentist and his staff is very friendly. He isn’t “in-network” with my dental insurance but I keep coming back because I love the level of service that I receive here. I wish I knew everyone’s names (but I don’t) so I’ll have to acknowledge them by job position… -The woman who cleans my teeth: She is SUPER friendly and is always complimenting me on one thing or another. It’s nice to come for a teeth cleaning and leave with a little self esteem boost! She also takes great care to watch my face for any sign of pain/discomfort and is always checking to make sure I’m doing okay throughout the teeth cleaning process. -The front desk lady that you book appointments with: She always remembers tidbits from the 1 min of conversation we have when I’m booking my appointments and asks follow up questions when I come back months later. (Ex: “Didn’t your dog have surgery? How’s he doing?) Stuff like that makes me feel like I’m not just another patient and that they truly care. She also handles billing and has been very helpful with all billing/insurance questions/issues that I’ve had in the past. She truly conducts herself in a kind, yet professional, manner. -Dr Chu: He does his job extremely well! Getting cavities filled isn’t scary when he’s behind the drill. I appreciate his gentle touch and the fact that he has calmed my nerves on many occasions. My teeth look FANTASTIC and I have him to thank for that. My mom is a patient of Dr Chu’s wife and he’s always asking how my mom is (etc, etc) which is a nice personal touch. The office is very clean and there is plenty of free street parking in front. If all the spots are taken, you can park in the residential area just off of Fair Oaks (behind his office).

Excellent Dentist and office staff!  I have been coming to see Dr. John Chu for about 15 years now.   I recommend him to all my friends and recommend him highly to anyone looking for a top rated dentist from general cleaning to cosmetic dental work this is the number one Dentist to go too. Always a friendly staff and If you have an emergency they will always find a way to get you in right away to see the Doctor.   He is the kind of dentist who is gentle  and  I have never experienced any pain or been uncomfortable.   If I could give 10 stars I would!   Thank you Dr. Chu.  I appreciate  your help all these years!

Dr. Chu is very friendly and professional.  He’s been our dentist since we moved to L.A. and unfortunately our insurance has changed and he’s not in our network. I felt obligated to give him a send-off in some way to return the favor for being so good to my wife and I.  Also… his name is Chu and he’s a dentist… How perfect is that?! Thank you Dr. Chu.  If we have the opportunity, we will return!

Dr. Chu is THE best dentist I have ever had! I had an emergency, and immediately called his office to see if he could see me the next morning. They booked me for the next morning then and there! And I am still in disbelief, but believe me when I tell you that my experience with him kept on getting better and better. I had a terrible toothache, and when Dr. Chu took the X-ray, it was as I feared…I needed a root canal (Dun Dun Dun!). [Btw, as a side-note, I was totally geeking out over how high tech the office was. I didn’t need to wait for the X-ray to develop like the other office we’ve all been to. Instead, with the fancy gadgets they had, the X-ray image was transmitted in real-time to the computer screen that sat next to me. When you’re in pain, the less time you spend NOT working on my teeth, the better! Also, unlike other dentist’s offices, Dr. Chu knows how to use a little thing called the internet, and was able to get me an estimate of all the procedures that needed to be done, RIGHT AWAY! The less I have to worry about with a root canal looming ahead of me, the better!! SO, onto the root canal: I was completely blown away by how efficiently he worked. He quoted me 1 hour, which was quite a bit less time than I was told was needed at other dentist’s office, but was able to get me in and out before that. AMAZING!!! No pain AT ALL as well! Also, Cecelia, the dental assistant was incredibly attentive and supportive throughout the procedure. Honestly, I could not have asked for a better experience and WITH A ROOT CANAL NONETHELESS! I used to ABSOLUTELY hate going to the dentist, but after being seen by Dr. Chu, I actually think that might change!

New to the area looking for a new dentist came across Dr. Chu over the internet. Dr. Chu and his assistants are absolutely incredible. Dr. Chu is friendly and professional and his assistants are friendly and caring. I had a dental emergency called and spoke to one of his friendly assistant explaining my tooth emergency, the assistant was concerned and scheduled me in that morning with short notice awesome! Dr. Chu and his team hands-down five star service.

Finding a new dentist is an annoying process. Reviews tend to vary wildly and you’re not sure what to believe. I almost went to a dental practice that had good yelp reviews but actually changed its name last year to distance itself from numerous horrible reviews. I was tipped off when the receptionist asked how I found them and she sounded too excited when I said Yelp. (Thanks, Google!) Shiesty stuff there. I am not a fan of going to the dentist but this was a very pleasant experience. There was barely a wait, Dr. Chu explains everything he was doing during the cleaning (which none of my other dentists have ever done), and it was quick and gentle. The office is open every other Saturday and until late on Wednesdays, which is super convenient if you have a busy work/school schedule.

I’m a tough customer.  I expect more from people.  John Chu is truly a kind, caring person who answers his phone personally if you can’t reach the office.  I called on a Sunday with a horrible tooth ache, and he had me scheduled for the following Tuesday (Monday was a holiday!).  Awesome folks at the desk too!

Dr. Chu and his staff are by far the best experience with dental I have ever had. My family has been going to him for almost 2 decades and each and every time, no matter how much pain we come in with, we walk out smiling. He’s gentle and honest, and genuinely cares for his patients. I’ve had a few emergencies and Dr. Chu has personally come in early or stayed late just for me. My family will never go anywhere else. Best Dentist EVER!

I have been a patient of Dr. Chu’s for about 8 years and I cannot stress enough the quality of work he does, his professionalism, his knowledge, the state of the art equipment, and the friendliness and professionalism of his entire staff (Maria is the best!). I don’t like going to the dentist (who does?), but if I have to go, I would never even think of seeing anyone else. If I move across the country… I would fly in just to see Dr. Chu. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my dental care!

I have been going to Dr. John Chu for over 20 years now, and he is the most professional, caring, & sensitive dentist around.  I highly recommend him to anyone who has a fear of dentist, or are sensitive to pain. He will make sure you are totally comfortable and not feeling pain.  He will listen to you and your needs, and perform the work you want, and not try perform other work that may need.  VERY NICE, the staff is excellent!!!

Dr. Chu was truly amazing, he fit me in and got right down to business. I haven’t been to a dentist in years, so I was a bit skeptical. He is honest, straight forward, clean, respectful and compassionate. If you need to see a dentist I would highly recommend traveling out of your way to see him. I had (2) teeth extracted on 4-25-2020 and was NEVER in any pain or discomfort under his care. He would be the only dentist I would ever use, he gets a 6 star in my book. Thank you Dr. Chu

Dr. Chu is a hardworking, very humble, patient, and very professional dentist! I recommend him wholeheartedly. I had work done from a previous dentist that was unsatisfactory. I came to his office based on a referral from my co-worker and he corrected everything. I can finally eat after a month of pain and agony. I write this review in tears because I am so happy that dentists like Dr. Chu still exist. I thank God for the referral and wish Dr. Chu continued success as a dentist, good health, and prosperity.

Best dentist ever!  I had a wisdom tooth that had to come out (I was procrastinating big time due to my fear of tooth extractions).  Dr Chu was not only very understanding and kind but I didn’t feel a thing during the entire process.  He walked me through it all. Since then, I have had all my fillings replaced as well as some minor dental work.  I totally recommend him!  His staff is really nice too!

My boyfriend has a severe infection and needed his tooth extracted. We called very early on Saturday morning and the Doctor answered. He was able to see my boyfriend as soon as the office opened. My boyfriend said the doctor was very gentle with his tooth and did not cause pain with the extraction. We highly recommend this place. This office is very clean with friendly staff. Thank you Dr. for seeing us at such short notice during this emergency situation!

Dr. Chu puts his patients first. I’ve been with him for almost a year now and he got me set up on Invisalign. He’s kind, reliable, and informative. Does a thorough job with cleanings and with explaining any kind of services you are interested in. He connects the office line with his personal line and picks up during the weekends, which goes beyond what’s expected.

I absolutely love Dr. Chu. Been coming to him on and off for many years. The off years have been due to having an HMO in a different group. But after after the worst experiences with my HMO approved dentists the past couple of years, I have decided I would rather pay Dr. Chu out of pocket rather than deal with the dentists I’ve come across. My father in law is a periodontist and if his practice was in California,  I’m 100% positive that he would have Dr. Chu at the top of his list as a professional referral for his patients.

If only there were more stars to give… I was unable to sleep a recent Friday night due to pain from a lost crown. Out of desperation, I called Dr Chu’s office at 7am the following morning, a saturday, not expecting an answer. Dr Chu himself answered and made time to see me that very day. He was able to handle the problem with grace and kindness and care. On a saturday! When the office is usually closed! He’s one of those rare human beings who seems to have found peace and love in his work and is actually able to share that peace and love with others. I cannot recommend him enough. Stars on stars on stars!!!

Hubby’s filling came off, yelped a dentist and picked Dr. Chu. I was able to make same day emergency appointment for 6:30 pm. Dr. Chu was so light handed going to the dentist was like a spa day, no stress. He is very patient with answering questions and always gives you the whole picture. The whole family have been going here for at least 4 years now. They will even work around your budget. Amazing dentist, & staff!

I recently went to Dr. Chu’s office for the first time and I’m frankly surprised at how helpful Dr. Chu and his staff are. I went in with a bunch of questions because I had new dental insurance (and it was a crappy one too) but he still took the time out to answer any questions I had. I went in for a standard teeth cleaning, some xrays, etc. Everything worked out fine. This is an office that provides great dental care and service. Would recommend Dr. Chu to anyone!

I can not tell you how happy I am to have found Dr. Chu!! The last honest dentist dentist,  what a true professional. Just 4 visits and I’m completely done with all the dental work I needed.  Something my previous provider was unable to do. With my previous provider there was always something else that needed to be done but not Dr. Chu, he was honest straight forward, done and done.  I’m bringing all my family and telling all my friends to come Dr. Chu. The last honest dentist who truly cares about his patients health!!!

Wow! All the glowing reviews are spot on, Dr. Chu and his assistant Cecelia are absolutely incredible. I had a dental emergency on a Saturday morning and they fit me in right away as a first-time patient. I was fixed up and out the door in less than 30 minutes. A very pleasant, professional, affordable and efficient experience. I don’t think it gets better than that.

I can’t believe there are no reviews yet. Well, i can and I can’t.  This place is a total hole-in-the-wall office on Fair Oaks.  I had a lot of trouble finding the door but once I found it I realized it wasn’t that hard. I don’t have dental insurance, I work freelance and have yet to figure the whole insurance thing out, but I had a really super painful tooth in the back of my mouth (from a filling that I’d lost several years ago while chewing gum and seeing the movie Planet of the Apes… make that many several years ago).  My cheek was starting to swell up… it was nasty. I asked a few of my friends, no one could recommend a dentist (an obvious shortage of good dentists in this town!) So I called 1-800-DENTIST (actually, I used their website and they called me.) They asked if I had insurance, I said “no” and they patched me through to Dr. Chu’s office.  The receptionist was SO sweet and she made an appointment for me, I was frazzled and concerned about price and she assured me there would be things we could work out.  They even accommodated my work schedule, staying later than usual to help me. When I went it, Dr. Chu offered to pull it at a discounted price and even took a post-dated check because I didn’t get paid for a few days.  He yanked that bastard tooth right out of my mouth and sent me on my way.  The assistant was really kind too. I would totally recommend him to anyone who needs a dentist.  He was really caring, nice and to the point about things. And their business card is hilarious.  It’s two teeth in a shower (I’ll upload it to the images.) I’m going to go back soon for  a check-up and cleaning and probably make Sean go too.  And my sister.  And whoever else I can think of.  (UYE, perhaps?!)

Heading home from work to enjoy a 3 day weekend and my crown with post falls out of my head.  My dentist and three other dentists I called were closed on Friday. I was facing a long weekend with a front tooth out making it difficult to eat as well. Luckily I found Dr. Chu on Yelp – one of the only nearby dentist offices that said “open”. I call and they say come right away. I did. Such nice people. The doctor was awesome and kind. They saved my weekend!  Heroes!!!!

My husband and I had an excellent first experience with this office. The assistants at the front desk are amazing. They are very patient and willing to help. The hygenist that did my cleaning was great as well. It’s been a little while since I’ve been back see a dentist so I knew I was in for an interesting cleaning. But she really took care of me and always made sure I was comfortable. Dr. Chu has been the best dentist by far. I’ve seen quite a few before him and I didn’t like any of them. Dr. Chu is very caring. He took his time to go over my dental needs and process. I didn’t feel like he was trying to make me have a procedure done when I really didn’t need it. I have another appointment this Saturday for fillings so we’ll see how it goes. I’m actually not dreading my appointment. Thank you Dr. Chu and staff for a very pleasant experience.

Dr. Chu is great! Very professional and very reliable! I was playing basketball over the weekend when I happened catch an elbow straight to my teeth. My front tooth was bent back and I had to see a dentist ASAP! This incident happened on Saturday night and by Sunday morning I called Dr. Chu’s office and he answered, and gave me an appointment time the following Monday morning at 8:30 AM! I love the fact that they are very prompt while providing great service! He took care of my front tooth in less then 30 minutes and explained every step of his procedure along the way! Highly recommended!

Dr. Chu is seriously the best dentist ever. Ive been seeing him for a couple of years now. I had an emergency situation today. He talked to me over the phone to find out what was going on. I came right in. Didn’t have to wait. I never feel it when he works on me. I don’t even feel the numbing. He explains everything to you before he does it. He doesn’t pressure you. His staff is very nice and he’s reasonably priced. I recommend him to everyone.
