This is a great dental place for kids. I live near Kailua town and I am glad to find a kid-friendly place so close to home. The office is very clean. They have books available for kids as well as a television. The nice receptionist turned it to the channel the kids asked for, thank you very much! My middle sone was the first to go in. He was having his first cleaning and check-up ever. He was so excited. He sat very well for the hygenist and the dentist. They were very friendly and patient with him and when he left he got a Cars toothbrush, toothpaste and a little toy truck. My 3rd son, 20 months old went after. Screamed the whole time but she still managed to carefully clean his teeth and check him over, legs squirming and arms restrained by me and all. He got the same goodies but could care less till he got the heck outta there. Side note: we have a Union insurance which they accept and our first visit was totally covered under the plan. They did not charge us any co-pay. Double thumbs up! What a great experience we had here. See you again in 6 months.

Kailua dental is a gem. We have been patients for the last six years and have had nothing but positive and professional experiences. The staff is incredibly kind and accommodating. The receptionists are welcoming. The hygienist that cleaned my kids’ teeth was so great. He made them feel comfortable and educated them. He was super fun and my kids had another good experience. I have been impressed with the adaptions they have made due to COVID. They are reasonable and you feel safe, yet they have held onto the ability to connect with their patients.

We have been patients at Kailua Dental Care since we arrived in Kailua two years ago and have only the best things to say. I feel like we are getting great dental care there, but more than that, I appreciate the kindness and the patience that they have shown our family. I have been in their office with my three children all under age five and they are always so kind and understanding of them. Taking them to the dentist has potential for a very stressful situation, but the hygienists and staff are so accommodating and kind. Dr. Sonson and his team are incredible! From the moment you walk into his state of the art office, Harriet and the rest of the Administrative Team greet you with warmth and smiles and by your first name! The hygienist’s, led by Judy, are the best that Hawaii has to offer. I can honestly say I’ve had the best cleanings EVER! The technology is so sophisticated. Crowns available that day, and a view of my teeth like no other! The kids love going to the dentist now because they can watch their choice of show on the video monitor mounted on the ceiling. We used to go to a pediatric specialist for them but they like Dr. Sonson and his office much better. Of course we can’t forget about Doc! The only dentist I’ve ever liked. He’s kind and considerate and very down to earth. Our overall experience is ALWAYS pleasurable and we enjoy our visits every single time!

Great cleaning/exam experience! My husband and I are in the Army but military dental clinics aren’t offering cleanings due to the pandemic. I paid out of pocket for a cleaning – KDC combines it with an exam (xrays and a dentist exam) for $100. I’ll go back for another cleaning in six months and it will be $55. Good value for my dental health, and Neil was an awesome and thorough dental tech! Highly recommend!!

When my former dentist retired a few years ago, he referred all his patients to Dr. Sonson. And much as I liked my first dentist, I have been so impressed by the entire staff in Dr.Sonson’s office. They have been incredibly kind, caring and professional in every contact I’ve had with them. I’ve had a few dental emergencies during the time I’ve been with them, and they’ve always managed to fit me in (always within 24 hours or less). They explain what they are doing, answer questions, and are willing to work with patients to provide topnotch care at affordable rates. The office is up to date with all the latest equipment and procedures and is an attractive, soothing environment. However, that’s not the reason I’ve referred several friends to them. The basic ingredient that makes this dental clinic so special is the quality of the people who work there. They are without fail pleasant, helpful, and caring. This is a place that truly has the aloha spirit! I can recommend them wholeheartedly as a great place to receive the best dental care available.

A five star review for a dentist?!? What was in that analgesic?! All kidding aside, I LOATHE the dentist, but I know an f’ed up grill will cramp anyone’s style, and while I don’t rock any diamond studded teeth (yet), I still gotta keep the goods in order. So when I knew it was time for some work under the hood, I did what any other person looking for a new dentist would do…I googled…then I promptly yelped everyone google result. Dr. Sonson only had one review on here, but I found several good reviews on the web. Now I needed to get this work done before we go on a trip next week, and I had exactly 2 free days that I could get in, not mention, I had to work around my work schedule. Thinking I was asking the impossible, I called Dr. Sonson’s office, the clouds parted, God smiled on me, and they were able to get me in the next day!! The office is right in Kailua town, in the Straub building across from Macy’s. It’s a super nice, quiet office. The two times I have been there now, both appointments have started right on time and ended promptly! They have state-of-the-art equipment and you can even watch TV while they work on you! When I went in for a filling, Dr. Sonson used his magical syringe to numb me up for the next few hours…literally…I think I’m still numb…Either way, he worked quickly and efficiently with the help of his assistant, Dee, and I was on my numb way in no time! The office staff is so, so welcoming, and accommodating! I cannot say enough good things about them! They take HDS dental and TriCare. PS: They are all wine fanatics, too! How many times have you and your dental pros had in depth wine discussions? Cause I lived it. Sweet!

My husband and I were referred to Kailua Dental Care through my grandma. She’s been Dr. Sonson’s patient for a very long time. I’m so glad we chose them! Both my husband and I hadn’t been to the dentist in over 10+ years. Can you imagine the state of our poor teeth? We went in early Sunday morning (on a Sunday??? Wowwwwww) and filled out some paperwork. Everyone was super sweet and helpful. Nurses took our X-rays and we got our teeth cleaned by the hygenist. To make us comfortable they have a tv and headphones to keep us entertained. The office is equipped with the latest equipment which is awesome!! Anyways, Dr. Sonson came in after to explain our options regarding what needs to be done with our teeth and give us estimations on the cost. He didnt pressure us into anything and when I mean explain, he was very patient & thorough. I’m super happy with Kailua Dental Care and honestly can’t wait to start fixing up my teeth. Absolutely amazing staff and facility. I went in for a teeth cleaning which was very reasonably priced and they had TVs attached to the chairs so you could enjoy some entertainment while they do work on ya 🙂 The front desk assistant Jody was very kind and made the paperwork process a breeze and Judy the dental hygienist did an amazing job making sure I was comfortable while she drilled / cleaned sensitive areas. Well, well, well Jeff. Fellow Yelpers, I have been traveling all over this island for over 15 years to get my teeth cleaned and fixed from this honest dentist. Great hospitality, awesome beautiful staff that always greet and smile when they see you. Office is always nice, clean, sterile and cool. TVs, remotes and state of the Art equipment. Jeff, Harriet, (Rey, awesome sauce) and all of the staff has truly been a blessing for me since 2000. When I walk in I truly feel as if I’m at home. Of course no one like to hear that they need some work, but rest assured that these great group of individuals got ur back. I love Kailua Dental Care. Dr.Son Son(hopefully I spelled that right) is wonderful. My two little ones have seen him a few times and today one of my kids got fillings done with him. He is so great with the kids and great at calming mom and dad’s nerves too!! No one there makes you feel awful for letting your kids end up with a cavity and they are quick to give tips and liste . The office is clean and the staff is friendly. They bill fairly and accept our insurance which is tricare dental through I believe Met life. The location isn’t bad either. Gale at the front desk is super sweet. Everyone is nice but I have had to call to change appointments and have talked with her most frequently. I also want to mention that Dr.Son Son(again I hope that is spelled right) talked my 6 year old son through 3 fillings with ease. We decided not to use the gas on him and Dr. Son Son was so patient, understanding, and entertaining as well. I go for my new patient exam for myself next month. We all love this office so much.

I’m not easily impressed, but Dr. Sonson and his team have done it! Over the past four years, I’ve been a patient of Dr. Sonson, both for general dentistry and orthodontia (Invisalign). Dr. Sonson and his staff have consistently provided state-of-the-art service with a smile. I was initially impressed with their use of technology in the dental practice, but over time have also been pleasantly surprised by their dedication to patient care. Each encounter with Dr. Sonson’s staff is positive, and they really go the extra mile to help when I’ve needed it. For instance, I lost an Invisalign tray but they immediately ordered a replacement, thus preventing further delay the progress of treatment. They even called me on a Sunday (a day they’re closed) to tell me they got my message and were working on it! I’ve been a patient of Dr. Sonson’s for 8 years. I love him! I always recommend him to my family and friends. I feel the office uses very up-to-date technology. They started using computer based filing before it was popular. That meant, when I moved away for a few years, the office was able to email me my x-rays. You can see your x-rays on a screen the second they are taken or you can watch cable TV while you get your teeth cleaned:-) They also send you a text to remind you of your appointment. The entire staff is incredibly nice from the front office to the hygienists. They must enjoy working there because I recognize the same friendly faces and they remember me and always ask about my family. I also appreciated that when my young son had a dental emergency recently, the office took me right away and one staffer even took the time to comfort me (frantic mom!) while my son contently watched a cartoon. I am lucky to have “good teeth” so I’ve never had to have more intensive work than a filling replacement. That being said, I think Dr. Sonson is a great dentist. I have never been in unnecessary pain and he always takes the time to knowledgeably answer any questions..

I have had “dentist anxiety ” all my life. I was so afraid to finally make this leap, I called around and yelped a lot and found this office. First phone call was extremely helpful, got an appt booked and I was on my way. The receptionist called back to ask if I wanted to come sooner and I did. When I got there they appeared busy but I didn’t wait long at all. Ashley the dental assistant (not sure if that’s the correct term) called me in and did my X-rays from on the chair . There is a tv right above the chair so it’s really convenient and distracted me from my fear. The dentist was amazing and Ashely was as well. I let them know I was worried about the procedures financially and they made sure to help me out as much as they could. It felt like they genuinely cared, which made it easier for me as well. I had a tooth extracted, I put if off for a while, like I said I had been afraid of dentist . Finally got it done. The dentist made sure I was extremely comfortable and I was numb before starting. Tooth was pulled quickly . I was out in a little over an hour. Gayle the business manager…. she’s awesome!!!! I could barely talk from my tooth being pulled but she understood everything! We talked about payment plans for the rest of the procedures and she reassured about it all. I highly recommend this office and I’m glad at 30 yrs old I finally sorta my dentist anxiety ! With huge help to my dentist and his assistant and the office team !!!

Over the past 4 yrs my family has relied upon them they have proven to be consistently courteous, gracious, timely and the dentists always do a superb job! And because fall break, I called ahead to ensure I could bring my 5 year old with me. I avoided the dentist – any dentist – for years and now I have learned why I shouldn’t have. My husband recommended Kailua Dental Care about 6 years ago when I had a terrible toothache. Dr. Son Son was very thorough in his assessment, offered alternatives and kept checking with me to see if I was experiencing any pain as he worked.. If only I had known visiting the dentist could be so manageable! Since then, I have had a root canal, a crown, and after several attempts at saving a tooth, a bridge. The dental hygienist has been very patient and gentle in cleaning up years of my negligent dental routine. Because it was so bad, my first few visits required major numbing which Dr. Son Son expertly supplied. And – appointments are always kept right on time with only a few minutes of waiting — not even enough to check my email via his free in office wifi. Take it from a grandma – visit the dentist (Dr. Son Son) regularly – it’s even worth a trip over the Pali if you don’t live in Kailua.

I had a dental emergency yesterday and called at 8:30am. They were able to fit me in at 10:00. I went in a little early and was out of the office by 10. I was so relieved to take care of my emergency so quickly because I was in so much pain. Dr Sonson was understanding of this and he did his very best to accommodate me as quickly as possible. Been going to Dr. Sonson for the last 4years and i love him and his staff. Apparently my whole immediate and extended family go to him but i only started going bc i broke my tooth in half due to chomping down on my stupid tounge ring. I didnt take care of it and i let it fester for several years( i was super young and extremely dumb lol) anyway, It got so infected that i couldnt really close my mouth bc i would get this shocking pain and headaches. My grandma dragged me to him and he tried to figure out a way to save the tooth but i just told him to yank it (cheaper and i just wanted it outta there). He has done all my fillings and cleanings and even though i drive from Mililani to Kailua to be seen by them, i find it extremely worth it

i really like going to the dentist! judy lets me watch kid’s tv with headphones when she cleans my teeth. she let’s me choose which flavor i want (i like chocolate!) when she polishes my teeth. dr. sonson gives me a high five when he comes to check my teeth and x-rays. he tells me and my mom how to take care of my teeth to keep them shiny. i get to choose a kid’s tooth brush (i chose lightning mcqueen!) and get sparkle fun toothpaste and floss. then i get to go to the treasure chest and pick out a toy (i got a blue big wheels monster truck!).

The staff at Kailua Dental are awesome! They are friendly and engaging and full of laughter. My appointments have always been in the morning and even if I am one of the first patients the ladies at the front desk are always laughing. It definitely helps set the tone of the office. At previous dental offices I’ve been to, I generally ask for a specific hygienist to prep me for the doctor, but at Kailua Dental it doesn’t matter who gets the ball rolling because everyone’s always friendly and seems genuinely interested when they ask you questions that others might think would just be casual small talk. As for Dr. Sonson, he is quick, clean, friendly and efficient. When there is a procedure that needs to be done or an issue that he sees coming up, he gives the patient options and then tells you what get he thinks would be the best choice, but he does it without being pushy (even though his job is to give you the best dental advice/care that he can. The ONLY gripe I can make is about parking and, well, that’s just the island for you. I give Kailua Dental five stars! If you’re new to the area or just looking for a new dental care provider, I definitely recommend the team at Kailua Dental.

Dr. Sonson and his team are amazing. The first thing that I was impressed with is that the office has state-of-the-art technology. But more importantly, by the end of my first visit I knew I found a great dentist because from the moment you walk into the office, you are immediately put at ease with a warm welcome from the receptionists and dental hygienists. With past dentists, I would experience pain and end up bleeding during every cleaning, but this has NEVER happened with Julia, the dental hygienist, and Dr. Sonson. They are thorough, but very gentle. With every visit, I leave the office with my teeth feeling amazingly clean and with NO pain. I am the type of person that used to experience severe anxiety with even the thought of having to go to the dentist, but with Dr. Sonson and Julia, I find that I almost look forward to going to have my teeth cleaned! I’ve been going to the same dentist for pretty much my whole life (the past 20+ years). After I moved to California I saw an array of dentists that either were sketchy, overcharged, or just flat out horrible. I moved home to find out my old dentist closed his practice – so of course I went to Yelp to find the nearest, best one near me. So far, I have not been let down! This practice is so friendly, timely, professional and straight to the point. I have been awful at getting back to the dentist and getting a teeth clean. Mostly because I know my insurance changed, and we moved, so that equals me being REAL lazy about finding a new dentist. So yesterday I come to Yelp and I type in “Tricare Dentist” and Kailua Dental Care comes up closest. I read the reviews, the good, the bad. I felt that the bad reviews were not really relative to how the actual business is run and more about someone just being bitchy and rude. So I figure this is a great spot to try, SO glad I called. Jody answered my call and I told her what I needed done. At my old age, I need to get my wisdom teeth removed, they are bothersome and need to go. She tells me I need to come in for an evaluation and I am over due for a teeth cleaning. I mention that I’m pregnant and I have a 3 yr old. She said that isn’t a problem, my child is welcome, and if I could be there in 40 min. SWEET! I show up and the place is EASY to find, it’s in the same building as Red Bamboo and that Island Art place between Salvation Army and Lanikai Juice. Oh, but on the second floor, the entrance is by Red Bamboo. I arrive, fill out paper work, and I am seen by…I’m gonna get her name wrong, Trysha? Trishay? Anyways, I’m awful at remembering names, but she was great, and did a fantastic job on my teeth cleaning. My son, he was accommodated with cartoons on the TV and he sat in the chair like a perfect angle and didn’t say a peep the entire time I was getting worked on. After the cleaning Dr. Saosson came in to look at my teeth. He starts telling me what he’d like to do; replace a crown, pull a wisdom tooth and put me in invisalign. I immediately start thinking he just wants to reach into my bank account, but that he’s not entirely wrong. Do I REALLY need braces at 30something? So he goes over the cost, the plan, and he’s very very realistic and fair. He really seemed more concerned with the long term care of my teeth and said that I didn’t have to do any of the things he recommended done but that they would eventually need to be taken care of or I risk more, expensive, problems down the road. I talk to Jody at the front and she gives me an estimate on how much everything will cost, and I was SHOCKED at how little I would actually be paying out of pocket. By a LOT! I’ll be going back soon to remove that pesky wisdom tooth and then wait till after my daughter is born to take care of the crown (because xrays) and then start the invisalign process. I’m very happy I trusted Kailua Dental Care, just too bad that I had horrible experiences in the past with dentist and cost because this place really is different and I should have come in sooner.
