I joined Yelp just so I could review Dr. Ben Karabell. Easily the best dental experience you can have in the South Bay. I have unfortunately had to see a lot of physicians in my life, and this is the only office I actually look forward to visiting. The whole office has come to feel like family, and I am so grateful that they are in my life. Kathy and Darci in the front office – I don’t even know what to say. They have become a favorite of mine when I’m there, if nothing more than to just have a chat. They work with me a ridiculous amount when it comes to payments, making the most out of my dental insurance, squeezing in appointments, and much more. I genuinely love them. Karen, my hygienist, is amazing. She’s old school, and comes with a wealth of experience. She is always attentive to ongoing issues before I even have to bring them up. She never hesitates to call the Dr. when needed, and I am so looked after by her. My teeth always feel amazing after she is done with me, and I am delighted I have found a hygienist I have been able to stay with for the last 4 years. Dr. Karabell is patient, kind, gentle and informative. I have significant dental issues, and he has never once made me feel rushed out of the chair. He has never made me feel stupid for asking what was quite possibly a stupid question. In fact, there have been times when I am told to come right down because there is a spot in my mouth that is bothering me. Dr. Karabell cares about me, Joey. He cares about my health. He is interested in my well being. Absolutely none of that is feigned. Even when I have had to have some larger work done, and have been fearful, the fears have always proven unfounded. I have never felt a thing with Dr. Karabell, and trust me, I’ve felt many-a-thing at other dentists/periodontists. As long as this practice is practicing, I will never go anywhere else. One final note: Dr. Karabell and staff touch people beyond dentistry. I had a special needs employee at my job, who was also a patient before he moved out of state. After one cleaning, they had something for him. A bag of helpful items that included his own sonicare toothbrush. They go above and beyond. Like I said, it’s truly a family, and you would be re-missed to not give them at LEAST one try. If you need a dentist, why not try a dentist that has views of the ocean, top of the line gentle care, a family atmosphere, and charitable staff To pass on them would really be a loss.

I have never had a better Dentist than Dr. John Shafer. First, Dr. Shafer is the kindest Dentist I ever had. Second, his dentistry is the best there is. He knows what he’s doing and is extremely careful while working on your teeth. He has always fixed me up especially when i had pain. I trust him with all my dental needs. Dr. Shafer is very knowledgeable in dentistry and he does everything with 200% of his effort. Also, his staff is AMAZING. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed with a greeting and smile. From the receptionist to the dental assistants – you will meet caring and friendly people. I would highly recommend Dr. Shafer and his entire staff to anyone looking for a GREAT Dentist.

Dr Karabelle is nice gentle and a caring Dentist. I truly hated going to the dentist and wasn’t happy with the one I was currently going to. It took me years to find a dentist that I felt comfortable with; even more so one who treats his patients kindly and carefully as Dr. karabell does. He’s efficient, let’s you know what you need to do on your own time to maintain great, healthy teeth, and he does it pain-free! Though I live in the Los Angeles area, making my usual dental trips to Hermosa beach is worth it due to the great treatment and wonderful staff at Dr. Karabell’s dental office. Handsome, efficient, and pain free–never do you get a great combo like this for a dentist!

What a great practice! Dr. Karabell really knows what he’s doing…he’s super professional and thorough. I came in for multiple cavity fillings and recently an emergency chipped tooth! If it wasn’t for Dr. Karabell and his entire staff, I would not have the smile I have today. Period. The wisdom, guidance, patience and perseverance that he has displayed in regard to my oral health is unrivaled by any medical professional I have ever been seen by (& unfortunately that is a lot). His front office staff are one of the delights of my visit, and my hygienist displays genuine care for my well being. They care about me. I’m not just a number. Dr. Karabell is the best. I’ve been seeing him for over 10 years, well before he had his own dental office. He’s just fabulous. He did an amazing job on my veneers and I have movie star teeth. His manner and demeanor is always pleasant. He’s easy to talk to, like he’s a buddy you’ve known forever. Yet he’s the best dentist I’ve had in the 46 years I’ve been alive, and I’ve gone to many dentists in my day, most not worth the paper their degrees are printed on. So, I don’t write reviews. I just don’t. I’m not that person. Go ahead… look … i’ll wait. See, nothing. However, for Dr. Karabell, I felt compelled. This page needs more reviews. He isn’t just the best dentist I’ve ever had. It’s not just his employ of the best hygienists I’ve ever had either. It’s not just the best office staff I’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with. It’s PHYSICALLY the best dental office I’ve ever set foot in. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to stare at the beautiful ocean while you are having your teeth cleaned or having work done? Beat that everyone else ever. But seriously, Dr. Karabell is patient, kind, gentle and informative. I have dental issues for days, and he has never ONCE made me feel rushed out of the chair. I love this place!! They are on their game when it comes to their Covid protocol. They made me feel safe and cared for. First time back at a dentist office in many years. I was very nervous to see one again. I was worried about feeling pain in my sensitive areas of my mouth. Also, that they would make me feel like just another person they needed to work on and move on like at previous places I had been to. It was all the contrary, everyone from the secretary to the main top dentist were kind, friendly and thoughtful. I didn’t feel rushed in anyway and they all took the time to hear me out and asked me how I felt at all times. Veronica Jara-Landeros did my cleaning. Veronica had such a great vibe and cared truly for my well-being. She was thoughtful and careful with how I felt in the dentist chair. She checked for any pain and temperature of the water she used. She also was a great educator on what I needed to change to improve my teeth’s health. She explained that I was brushing and flossing way too hard and aggressively. That it was weakening my gums and enamel causing me to have those sensitive areas in my teeth. She took her time to demonstrate to me on what degree I should be flossing and brushing. Crazy that I had never heard of this advice since I met her. I left feeling relieved and happy that I finally found a great dentist office I would look forward to visiting again.

I recently moved to the area and so impressed with everything about this practice! They are really taking extreme measures to stay COVID safe. I was greeted with hand sanitizer and a temperature check. There was no crisscrossing of patients, and everyone wears a face mask (they’ll even provide one if you don’t have!). Dr. Karabell is so knowledgeable and it shows that he genuinely cares for his patients!

I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Karabell and his team for their beautiful dental work, warm personalities, and inviting environment. I chipped my front tooth/crown at 6PM on Thursday night and looked absolutely crazy. After searching for an emergency dentist (most places close at 5PM), I came across Dr. Karabell. He and his Dental Assistant, Beatrice, saw me that evening at 7PM and got me a temporary crown in less than an hour. No pain, no need for numbing injections, super easy-peasy. This is exactly what I needed to help hold me over so I could go to work the next day without a chipped front tooth. I am so thankful that they were able to help me (I had already been to another office that was unable to assist and tried to schedule me for 2 days later). The front desk staff member was so kind, too! The office is clean and has nice little samples/goodies out front. THANK YOU THANK YOU many times over Dr. Karabell and team! A native of Colorado, Dr. Karabell earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and chemistry from Colorado State University. After completing his undergraduate studies, he attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, which was followed by a residency at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. Practicing dentistry in California since 2009. Dr. Karabell believes in treating patients like a part of his own family. As a result, when you come to the office, you can expect gentle care, a listening ear, and prompt appointments that respect your time. Dr. Karabell is also an excellent listener and communicator. He’s always happy to listen to the questions and concerns of his patients. When he’s not creating beautiful, healthy smiles for his patients, Dr. Karabell enjoys traveling with his wife and three kids and watching his favorite sports teams play (especially his beloved Denver Broncos).
