Our family has gone to Dr Karrie Chu for over 12 years and we love her practice. We started with Dr. Chu before she went out on her own and followed her to her new office because we trusted her so much We love the new environment and staff. They treat us like family, are so welcoming and make sure we are always comfortable. Dr. Chu’s office is not only friendly but very professional and current with new dental technology and practices. This makes for fast and smooth dental cleanings, check ups or needed procedures. The office is clean and very sanitary. My kids also go to dr chu. She and her staff are amazing with children and make my kids feel so comfortable during cleanings and check ups. Sometimes they will even turn on a show for them while they are in the chair. I am thankful for her early treatment on my children’s teeth when expanders or correction for overbites have been needed as well. I really can’t say enough about how much I trust and love this practice. Dr. Chu has cultivated an environment that is everything you would want in a dental office.

I have been a patient of Dr. Chu for maybe about 10 years or so—maybe longer. She did my Invisalign. She also arranged the most complex procedures for my husband, who was years behind on his dental work after living in a foreign country and so scared, I literally had to block the door so he didn’t escape his first visit. He was possibly one of the worst case scenarios. She helped us to assemble the right team of specialists for his dental surgeries, which she attended along with an anesthesiologist and an oral surgeon. She just went above and beyond. We had her cellphone number and he could call her when he was concerned. She was able to reverse the gum disease, save his teeth, and make him a willing return patient. Success! He is a model patient now. Besides Dr. Chu, who is just a lovely, caring person, the staff is equally kind and friendly. They are extremely professional, thorough, and take their time. They all seem super invested in the success of the practice I have always felt.

My entire family and I have been going to Dr. Chu’s dental practice for years now and we couldn’t be happier. She and her lovely staff are knowledgeable, warm, caring people. We have always had very pleasant experiences there even when getting some serious dental work done, which says a lot! Dr. Chu and her staff are  wonderful with my children and they actually look forward to their cleanings and X-rays. The office has been newly renovated (it’s very chic too, btw), and has brand new state of the art equipment.
Everyone in the office is tested weekly for covid, their PPE is A++. They go above and beyond to keep their customers safe. An added plus – if you’re looking to support a diverse, women-owned business, this is the place. 100% of Dr. Chu’s staff are women!

I first started going to her former office at least 12 years ago and the older dentist came highly recommended, and I had a great experience. The staff is all really great, hardly any turnover, and everybody knew me by name. Then Dr. Karrie Chu joined the practice and I started see her, and she was great too! Very gentle touch, very skilled.  She did my Invisalign, always asked me about my life, work, etc. Then I brought my husband in and he is a “hard case” and she worked with him to do some pretty serious work to save some teeth.  He felt so embraced by her and all the staff he is a completely different person when it comes to dentists–from fear to perfect patient. When the older doctor sold the practice, I got a note from him to make an appointment at the new location and I called but they said Dr. Chu was no longer there, and I was like, Oh No!  I kept asking the front desk lady what happened and she wouldn’t really say.  So I finally found Dr. Chu on Google and she has the same great team of hygienists and assistants from the old office still with her! I was so happy to see them all.  I just went to get my teeth cleaning and they are taking a lot of precautions and I felt 100% at ease that it was a safe, clean environment. I am so relieved that we can continue to see her after all that she did for us.  My dentist for life!

I am so very satisfied with the practice. Dr. Chu is spectacular. She is knowledgeable and shows concern for the overall oral health of the patient. I consulted about braces to correct my bite and I left there knowing this is who I want treating my teeth. I had gone to another dental office to consult but I was not comfortable with the pricing and the correction method that was recommended for me. I have short roots on my two front teeth so instead of braces Dr. Chu strongly advised against them for the top but did recommend a lingual bar to stabilize them. It has made such a great difference and it’s only been 24 hours. I will soon be moving forward with braces for my lower teeth.

Dr. Chu is in a word, “awesome!”  In fact, my entire experience here was great from the moment I walked through the door.  I was immediately greeted as I walked through the door and no more then 5 minutes after completing my initial paperwork was I ushered into the back to get my X-rays.  Following that straight to my seat.  Not too much time had passed before I was seen by Dr. Chu. I’ve been to a lot of dentists in the past and I have to say, Dr. Chu was THE MOST thorough of them all.  I’m not completely sure of all the different types of tests she did on my teeth, but I know I never got any of them before in the other offices.  The hygenist was gentle on my teeth and gums.   The garden outside was calming, adding to the overall experience here.  I must admit, I can’t wait to go back for my next appointment.

Park Place Dental is amazing and a cut above any other dentist or ANY doctor’s office I’ve been to.  My wife and I have been going to Park Place for a couple years now and I wish other Dr. office staff would go to Park Place and take notes on how to run a business.  Let me explain what I’m referring to: * Dr. Chu and her staff are energetic, competent and genuinely cares for their patients.  You won’t find any judging, condescending, or lectures at this office like I have at many other dentist offices.  The front staff are efficient and friendly.  Nobody wastes your time, and all the grumpy patients that hate going to the dentist don’t seem to affect their attitude 😉 * The use of technology and computing is used effectively and at the benefit of the process.  Your appointment is confirmed by email and/or phone calls, feedback is regularly requested, welcome, and easy to provide.  In-Situ X-rays are displayed on a monitor right away.  They have the cool Lidocaine machine that *slowly* injects the drug almost painlessly and with the smallest needle possible.  Each staff member has a radio so they can request charting or assistance without having to stop what they’re doing * They don’t waste your time.  You’re the reason they’re in business, and they know it.  This office runs very efficiently.  I’ve never waited more than 60 seconds after showing up and they’re busy too. I’ve had the conclusion that Med School didn’t teach enough business classes, because I keep finding that even when the medical work is top-notch, the front office really stinks.  Park Place Dental really is the exception here.  They’re doing top-notch medicine and running top-notch business that prioritizes the customer. If you’re a new patient, try Park Place – you’ll like it. If you have a dentist already, switch to Park Place. If you’re a competing dentist, copy everything they’re doing here.

I also have had exceptional dental care at Dr. Chu’s office.  I don’t like going to the dentist, but Dr. Chu is really helpful, really sounds like she cares about the dental health of her patients, and is overall really outstanding.I say almost, because I thought they were great–and then my wife went for her first visit.  Of the staff, she found everyone nice, but one of the dental hygienists advocated for a “deep cleaning”, which is basically a scaling of all the plaque at the gum level or below.  Look up the treatment.  Basically, my wife felt like she didn’t need it, as she had just gotten the cleaning 6 months before from a previous dentist, prior to us moving to Pasadena.  My wife flosses every day in the evening, extremely carefully, so she wasn’t too pleased hearing how much she needed more cleaning.  After hearing my wife’s comments, I also recall that the same dental hygienist was pushing for the same deep cleaning treatment for me–but I didn’t think anything of it.  I am of the opinion that the dentist and the entire office shouldn’t be rated by the one dental hygienist’s untactful comments (read, “hard sell”).  Just beware.. 🙂 Overall, I can’t find one problem with Dr. Chu or this office.  They are a tech-savvy business, using latest dental software (printed out my teeth cleaning record) email/text appt software, etc.  A few days before the visit, I got an email reminder.  Two days before the visit, I got a text message email reminder.  Some people may find it annoying, but for me, it’s a great way to get reminded, rather than have little business cards lying around the house with appointment info. After the root canal, Dr. Chu gave me a phone call personally that evening to make sure I was doing ok, wasn’t sick or in pain. Great things about this office that I’ve observed in the last 4 appointments I’ve had here: m1) The dental staff are all gracious and thoughtful in making me comfortable.   2) Within 10 minutes I get seated in the chairs, don’t have to wait long at all.   3) Patients get text message & email reminders. 4) 6:30 am appointments. Yah, I’m one that prefers going to the dentist early, get the appointment done, then head in to work.  This is a lifesaver for me at work, rather than have to take 1/2 day off.  This was actually the main reason I first went here.  Most dentists are 9am – 6pm, and the work I do, I need to be in the office during that time, or I take a PTO.  I don’t like doing a PTO or half-day, for dentist work….

Dr Chu is fantastic! Even though the office is not officially a pediatric dentist, she took care of my daughter better than her real pediatric dentist did. The staff was great and my 6-year old came out of the office smiling ear to ear. Once you step into the office, you’ll see that it is clean, high-tech, and extremely friendly. Our experience couldn’t be any better. Compared to my current dentist office & staff, I’m thinking of changing dentists now that I’ve seen first hand what a real dentist office should be like.

Just had another above and beyond (“high-touch” and “high quality”) dental visit with Dr. Karrie Chu in her brand-new high-tech (modern), comfortable, professional, relaxing and inviting dental office. Dr. Chu, beyond being totally intelligent, is really warm and very much interested in me beyond my dental care. I never feel like she is rushing to get to the next patient. I really appreciate her staff’s very embracing, engaging, caring and kindness. This really helps those of us who have a fear of those scary dental gizmos. LOL. The staff is cross-trained and therefore are in the know about my care. How refreshing is this—ha ha, no pun intended. Ultimately, my natural 32 teeth are perfect at 64 years old, and I’m always complimented by people I meet. Your teeth are so white and straight!! Thanks to Dr. Chu and her team…..Check them out and you will be amazed at their professionalism and embracing care. Reggie

I’m sure I’m not the first to admit that visiting the dentist is not on the top of my to-do list, but my first visit to this practice may have changed that. I’ve used several run of the mill dentists over the last 10 years and this visit to Dr. Chu has definitely stood out and left a lasting impression on me. I was surprised by how inviting the layout of this office was. The open walls, high ceilings, and the copious supply of windows gave the office a bright, warm ambience and made me feel at ease. I did not feel the stench of a clinic that I’m so used to experiencing in various doctor and dental offices. The waiting room had a fancy coffee machine and the girls in the front office welcomed me with gratious smiles. I was faxed my patient forms prior to my visit so I had everything filled out by the time I arrived. Although I’ve prefilled forms before, this was the first dental visit where I was actually attended to on my appointment time. I’ve never understood why past dentists would take me to the dental chair only to wait another 30 minutes for someone to attend to me. I’ve fallen asleep numerous times waiting and this was the first visit that didn’t have me feeling like I was waiting for the cable guy to show. I keep a tight timetable when working in my own business so its refreshing to have a dental visit that can pay me the same respect. I started with a cleaning with the hygenist, Constance. I remembered seeing her name from some of the past yelp posts, but I found the cleaning to be a breeze. She was respectful, thorough, and straight to the point. I got my wax, buff, and polish and a few helpful pointers and tips for improvement and left with a bright smile. Next, I was taken to have some xrays and pictures taken. The equipment used in this practice were very impressive. The extremely comfortable chairs alone were something worth writing home about. But on a more serious note, this was the first time I’ve experienced digital xrays. They placed my head in some orbital device and later took some digital xrays in the chair. What fascinated me was being able to see my xrays and teeth instantly on a computer screen. I’ve never seen my teeth in so much detail. Unfortunately, I cant say that I’m happy with what I saw, but being able to see the inside of my mounth with so much clarity was exactly what I’ve always wanted to see. It’s one thing to hear your dentist harp about what you need to do better (do they ever have anything good to say?) but its definitely more important to see what youre doing, or lack there of, and the effects it has on your hygiene. The beautiful Dr. Chu (trust me guys, you’ll just have to see for yourself) answered all of my particular questions, as anoying as I was, but its amazing how much more you care as a patient when you can see what your dentist can see. All in all, this was an eye opening experience and I look forward to my next visit. I’ve finally found a practice that doesnt make me feel like I’m being beamed back to the 80s. It’s refreshing to have found a practioner that has respect for their patient’s time commitments and stays up to date on technological advancements. This place feels like a well run practice and I’ll continue to support it…Dr. Chu is the best dentist ever! two thumbs up for a great smile =D

I have been going to Dr Chu for over two years and I am so pleased with her care. I was first recommended to Park Place Dental by 3 different  coworkers who also go there. Both my husband and I have teeth prone to cavities and gum issues. After several years of avoiding the dentist she was easy to speak with and very encouraging. She has completed two crowns and a few fillings for me, that were long over due, and I’ve gone to gum therapy which has dramatically improved my sensitivity. All treatments were professional and I was made as comfortable as possible. Dr Chu and her staff have worked with us and our budget to address the most pressing issue first and spread out our additional treatment as we could afford them. She always makes sure we are comfortable, checking in throughout treatments to see if we are still properly numb and not feeling any pain, and she follows up afterwards to make sure we are satisfied with our work and not having any issues. My husband, who gets very nervous and in general avoids the dentist for as long as possible, will only go to Dr Chu. She has never made him uncomfortable or judged for his reservations and anxiousness, rather over time has built up his trust. I will never love going to the dentist, but I do appreciate that the staff greets me by name, they know my family and they provide a great service. This a truly a family friendly practice and I feel so lucky to have found this gem.

I am very happy with Dr. Chu and her team. She is detailed oriented, takes her time to complete the work well, and does not settle for a good job. She aims for excellence. For example, we did one crown last year that we wanted the color to match with my real tooth. It turns out my tooth color was very difficult to match and we end up having to re-do the crown multiple times. She did not settle for an approximation While I very much appreciate her for being knowledgeable and skilled as a dentist, most of all I like her personality and the way she interacts with her patients. She is very personable and genuinely caring. I’ve had dentists that acted as if my opinion about my own teeth did not matter. They would make up their minds about what they wanted to do, communicate it to me, and give me the option to either do what they wanted or nothing else at all. Dr. Chu, on the other hand, always takes into consideration what I want, so my treatment plan is done collaboratively. She treats patients with respect and hears what they have to say, so I give her the highest patient care ratings. I am also very happy with my hygienist, Sally. She is experienced and caring. In addition to doing a very good job with cleaning, she is also very skilled at delivering patient education about gum disease and treatments. I’ve learned a lot from her and this has made a difference in my gums. One would think delivering patient education is the easiest part of the job, but it is actually the hardest because telling people they have to floss is not enough to get them to take better care of their teeth. You have to be good at motivating people, and for sure can’t come across as judgmental or scolding. Sally does her job well! The office staff is hit or miss. They have some amazing, caring people working there but others are not so great. Like other reviewers on Yelp, I’ve had problems with the staff in charge of billing/finances. I did not feel cheated per se, like others have said in their reviews, but my general sense is that I need to monitor my account closely, and can’t count on the staff to let me know when I overpay. They will file insurance claims for you but want you to pay upfront for everything you do depending on the kind of insurance you have. Last year I figured out they had collected more money from me than they should, and I end up with over $600 credit in my account. For close to a year, I tried to get my money back – made several calls, talked to the staff in person, etc – but in the end I never got a check back from their accountant. Eventually, my spouse and I had to go back to the dentist to do other treatments, and the credit was applied toward the new expenses. Consequently, I became more cautious with making payments before I know whether my insurance will cover the treatment or not. I now ask a lot of questions, which sometimes triggers a defensive reaction on the part of the staff (e.g., they act as if I am trying to get away with not paying for treatment when I am just trying to find a good way to deal with the complexities of insurance billing). Bottom line: I am not always happy with the finances/billing staff but I try not to get too caught up on my grievances because I like Dr. Chu and Sally so much and don’t want to go elsewhere. They are truly amazing! Just to be clear, I give 5 stars to Dr. Chu, her clinical team, and the receptionists who are always very friendly. I give 2 stars to the finances/billing staff.

I have been a loyal and very happy client of Park Place Dental for the past five years!  I found Dr. Chu by way of mouth shortly after moving back to the Pasadena area.  In the past five years, I have had nothing but great experiences with this office.  That is saying a lot, considering they are dentists after all.  Everyone in the office is very professional and Dr. Chu is excellent dentists!  I am always greeted with a friendly “hello” and know my teeth and i will be well-taken care of!  I no longer live in the area, but regularly make the trek east – often at 6:30 a.m. when the office opens – to be seen by one of their very talented and caring hygenists or either dentist.  I can’t recommend this office more highly!!

Oh my goodness…I barely know where to start….In a half century of dentist visits, I have never been so well taken care of as in the hands of Dr. Chu and her staff!  From the pre-visit call from Dr. Chu to ascertain whether I had any questions or concerns to the amazing service during the appointment to the follow-up call from Dr. Chu and thank you card (signed by the entire staff and including Dr. Chu’s personal cell phone number just in case I had any questions), the experience was beyond any previous experience.  This is an office with the newest technology and highly skilled personnel, but it is the authentic caring and warmth that truly sets them apart.
