Dr. Lathrop saved me from being a graduate student in braces. I had braces for three years when I was younger and religiously wore the retainer from my previous orthodontist for six years. My teeth somehow still shifted substantially to the point where my teeth didn’t fit together when I ate. My previous orthodontist told me I would have to get braces a second time to fix the issue but Dr. Lathrop was able to fix my bite with a simple clear retainer. She even gave me two different retainers and let me try them both and choose which one was most comfortable! Dr. Lathrop was also incredibly accommodating. She worked around my school schedule and fit in my appointment so that I didn’t have to miss class. She also got me in and out of the office very quickly with no wait time whatsoever. I will never go back to my old orthodontist after visiting Dr. Lathrop and I highly recommend visiting her office if you’re looking for a great office experience and an orthodontist who won’t try to put you in braces just to make a profit.

We have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Lathrop. My dentist highly recommended her, and many of my son’s friends see her as well. My son just got his braces off today and his teeth look fabulous! He had them on for two short years and working with Dr. Lathrop and her team has been a painless experience (for me at least – though my son never complained of pain either :)). Marie did an amazing job with my teeth (back in my 14th year of life.) The staff there is so kind, efficient, and thorough. I knew I wasn’t getting those things off until my teeth were perfect. But with well-timed appointments and tightening and one very hefty bite plate, I was done with less than two years of orthodontia under my belt. 10 years down the road, my teeth are still straight. My retainers still fit and still have the awful palm tree print I chose in the 8th grade. I highly recommend!

Dr. Lathrop took the time with me at an appointment without my child after taking imaging and impressions to create a plan. Combining years of experience with all of the information available from measurements, she works hard to reshape a complicated mouth. Their customer service is also amazing. I never have to wait as they consistently run on time which matters most when we are coming from and returning to school. There are fun events and prizes that keep kids interested. Both of my girls are patients of Dr Lathrop. They each had different issues and have different treatment plans, but both of their care has been excellent! My older daughter’s braces are coming off soon, and she’s really excited to have her bite corrected. The staff is always polite and friendly. After interviewing several orthodontists I chose Dr. Lathrop with confidence. My son received early intervention for a very crowded mouth and benefited from a less invasive approach by Dr. Lathrop, spreading his palate to accommodate all his permanent teeth prior to braces. He now has a beautiful smile. My daughter also has benefited from a comprehensive approach to her orthodontia treatment. I don’t think I can express enough how grateful Dr. Lathrop and her staff. Prior to treatment, I always had confidence issues because of how awfully jagged my teeth naturally were. Afterwards, I could honestly not wipe the satisfied grin off my face. The environment in the clinic is amazing, very technologically advanced- providing patients with IPads (and cookies!) to enjoy while they wait to be seen. On top of that, the staff are plugged in at every chair with laptops that allow them to pull up all of our records right then and there. My experience was worth every penny spent. I highly recommend this family-friendly clinic to anybody seeking local and reliable orthodontic care.

They fit us in for a weekend emergency bracket fix. -Suzanne even let me use her office for an unexpected online meeting I needed to log into! Dr Lathrop is a very good orthodontist. My children had excellent experience with her and her staff when they had orthodontist work done. I needed orthodontist work so I started seeing Dr Lathrop’s office in Dec 2017. The alignment of my teeth had become very uncomfortable and by March I was already seeing really nice results. I travel a lot and the professional electronic reminders about appointments keeps me on schedule. They also have a nice portal for seeing future appointments. Overall this is the most organized and efficient doctors office I have visited. The staff is professional and friendly. All my appointments, every 4-6 weeks for 14 months have been exactly on time. I have never had to wait.

For being someone who hates the dentist this place is amazing! When moved to Portland I researched new places and saw that Dr. Lathrop’s was close and seemed highly regarded. After my first appointment I see why! Dr. Lathrop had a full hour consultation with me discussing all my options, and telling me the pros and cons of each one. I finally settled on Invisalign, and the office worked with me and my crazy schedule to make sure I was able to stay on plan, and be done as soon as possible. After a year and a half my teeth are perfect! I would not trust anyone else with my smile!!

I’m transitioning from another ortho, Bright Now, and it’s been the best transition I’ve made. Their office lobby is decorated so comfortably, there are cookies (I chose not to eat one as I have braces and if you have braces you know the struggle between “is this worth it or not?”) They looked and smelled wonderful though. In hindsight I should have grabbed one on the way out…. too much talk about cookies. I met with Suzanne and she was bright and bubbly but not in an over the top kind of way. It was genuine happiness! She was proud of the clinic and bragged about Dr. Lathrop. Dr. Lathrop knew what she was talking about and gave me a sense of ease and trust. I realized that I was not in a good relationship with my previous orthodontist. Honestly, transition is hard and time consuming, but I’m glad I made the switch and that’s only after the initial consultation. Thank you, Suzanne, for taking the time to email me back and forth and handling the frustrations that come with miscommunications Of dealing with other dental practices with a small giggle and empathy. Dr. Lathrop is kind and present and took the time to answer my questions. She took a look at a couple amateur photos I took with my phone of the progress with my teeth when we didn’t get them from the previous clinic, even if they were silly and not professional, she made me feel appreciated.

Dr. Marie Lathrop is uncompromising when it comes to creating beautiful smiles. She is dedicated to always give every patient her best-which involves accurate clinical diagnosis, efficient and comfortable treatment, leading to outstanding and healthy smiles. Dr. Marie grew up in Southwest Idaho and had the goal of becoming an orthodontist from a relatively young age when her very messed up teeth were straightened. She understands firsthand how much difference having the confidence to smile can make and is delighted that she can share that with her patients. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Idaho. Dr. Marie and her husband moved to Portland to attend dental school at Oregon Health Science University. Her dream of becoming an orthodontist was realized when she was accepted into the orthodontic residence at OHSU. After graduation from this program, Dr. Marie began teaching orthodontics at OHSU which she continues to do to this day. She opened her private practice in Sellwood in the year 2000 and has loved bringing beautiful, confident smiles to her friends and neighbors. Dr. Marie is also a dedicated volunteer and after spending countless hours working at her children’s schools-she became involved with orthodontic associations and has served as the President of the Oregon State Society of Orthodontists and as delegate to the American Association of Orthodontists. She is currently the President-elect of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists. In her spare time (when she is not at an orthodontic meeting or on a conference call or treating patients) she enjoys spending time with her wonderful children, her husband Greg and their 4 dogs. Finding the time to spend a weekend at the beach or take a walk to Westmoreland is always a treat. “I have loved serving the community in which I live and where I raised my family – it is a special blessing to meet new families and make new friends. I am always honored when someone chooses our office to have their orthodontic treatment and I am dedicated to treating every person as if they were my family.” Life long learning is a deeply held value of Dr. Marie and it is demonstrated by her continued service to her alma mater OHSU School of dentistry for over 25 years as an adjunct clinical professor for orthodontic residents. Her colleagues clearly value her leadership, constantly being asked to volunteer for larger and larger executive board positions with the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics since 2015 and will soon be inducted as the President of the PCSO in 2020. She belongs to several professional organizations in her industry including, OHSU Alumni Association, Oregon state Society of Orthodontists, and serves as a delegate for the American Association of Orthodontics.
