For the very first time in my life, I had a cavity. Yes, people, after years of taking great care of my pearly whites, I relaxed my discipline and had to get three composite fillings recently. Even though all my previous visits to the dental office have always been met with “Wow, you took great care of your teeth!” and simply received cleaning and polishing while I used to live in Philadelphia, I had to seek out a new dentist in New York City because my teeth started to bother me while flossing and had a sneaking suspicion that I had a cavity. After hearing all the horror stories from my friends about their experiences in getting their first fillings, I grew really nervous but was fortunate to find Dr. Shin’s, Lux Smiles dental practice. When I arrived to his office, he and his staff were really warm and friendly. Once we started to interact, I could immediately tell that he was very open, knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. During the procedure, all my worries melted away and totally forgot about my friends’ horror stories and made a better version of my own. Really – I was so relaxed that I almost fell asleep. If it weren’t for the fact that Dr. Shin was in my mouth, I would have drifted off to REM sleep. After the procedure, I had a quick conversation with Dr. Shin and, with my biomedical engineering background, I was fascinated about how biologically different the teeth were from the rest of the body. It was truly apparent that he was staying abreast of the latest research in the industry and was happy to share any knowledge that he could about his expertise.

Gentle and careful I had a tooth break off in April during the height of the Corona Virus in New York City and was very wary about seeing ANY dentist. Dr. Shin kept very limited office hours for emergencies only and agreed to see me. His office was kept meticulously clean/santized and my treatment was gentle and pretty painless. He gave me a temporary crown that is holding up well. I would highly recommend Dr. Shin.

I’ve been going here the past few months to get everything from an extraction to teeth cleanings to root canals. Dr. Shin has been amazing with following up afterward each time to make sure everything was OK and that I was feeling OK. He is amazingly friendly and patient — and I especially like how he explains what he is doing during each procedure so that I can mentally prepare for what is going on. Excellent service, and I recommend to everyone!

Best dental office in NYC! I’ve been a patient for ten years and every experience has been positive (as positive as going to the dentist can be). Dr. Shin is kind and caring. Takes special care to be sure his patients are comfortable. The staff is amazing. Roseanne is the greatest! Nataliya is always so kind and gives every cleaning the utmost care. I’ve had a lot of dental issues in my life, and have been in good hands here. Between Dr. Shin, Nataliya, Roseanne, and formerly Dr. Kessler, I’ve always been pleased and would highly recommend this practice to anyone.

We came in in June of 2020. I was nervous about Covid but had a dental emergency so my husband and I booked appointments. No one really wants to go to the dentist. But, if you have to go (and we all have to go), you want to go to Dr. Shin. Not only is he excellent at what he does (I have gone to him for everything from a cavity to teeth whitening to more major teeth issues), he is very understanding of how it feels to be the patient. He carefully explains everything he is about to do and frequently ‘checks in’ during a procedure to make sure you are ok. I also really appreciate his follow up afterwards. It’s a nice touch that shows how much he cares about his patients. I would recommend him without reservation.

I have been a patient of Dr. Kessler and more recently Dr Shin for the past 15 years. I trust and value them so much that when I moved out of NYC to Westchester I decided to keep traveling into the city rather than switch dentists. In the past I’ve had experiences with other dentists who did unnecessary work, so being able to trust my dentist is very important to me. In the years I’ve been going to Kessler and Shin I’ve only needed bi annual cleanings and two fillings. They are not making a lot of money off me lol but everyone in the office treats me great. The desk staff and hygenecist are friendly and efficient, there is never a long wait, and there is a good team atmosphere in the whole office. I always feel that the dentists are thorough and I never feel rushed.

I’ve been going to Dr. Shin’s for a few years now. A friend recommended him and I’ve sent a few people there too. I appreciate that Dr. Shin is honest and straightforward and never pushes for work to be done when it is unnecessary. With some dentists, you get the feeling that they are trying to drum up business. However, this is not the case with Dr. Shin. His staff is very friendly (from front desk to hygienists – who perform very thorough cleanings), and so is Dr. Shin so it makes for a very pleasant experience. I don’t live in Manhattan, but for me, it’s worth commuting for good/reliable dental service. Thank you to everyone at the practice for all that you do!

Dr. Shin became my dentist almost “by accident” when my primary dentist left the practice and I took an appointment with him instead. I’ve never looked back since then and that was, maybe, 5+ years ago. He deserves highest marks across the board for his excellent work and also his excellent bed side manner. He’s super smart, knowledgeable about current developments in dentistry, and he’s also connected to other really great doctors in the area. You will only get the best if you need a referral for a procedure outside his area of expertise. Dr. Shin is a nice juxtaposition of “totally laid back” and “OCD”: he’s totally laid back in conversation and totally OCD about his work being done right before you get up out the chair — and I like that! He’s always willing to answer questions or concerns you may have and he’ll let you know when he needs to verify information rather than make up stuff when he doesn’t know. He treats his patients with the utmost courtesy and respect and I highly recommend Dr. Shin if you’re looking for a dentist in Midtown.

By far the best dentist I have ever had in my entire life. Dr. Shin is great at his craft. For those of us who don’t like to go to the dentist, Dr. Shin is the solution. I was recommended by a friend and was truly pleased with my first visit. As others have noted, Dr. Shin really cares about his patients on personal level. It’s very refreshing and comforting to know that your doctor is the best at what he does. He will not only provide you with amazing services but will also take the time to explain everything in great detail. He was more than willing to help when a dear friend of mine had an accident and needed oral care. The next day she was in Dr. Shin’s office and gleaming about how helpful and caring he was during her visit. My point is that he goes out of his way to ensure that he is providing the best services to all of his patients. I’ve been a patient of Dr. Shin’s for the past 5 years or so, and cannot speak highly of him. Not only is he very knowledgeable about all aspects of the dental practice, he always patiently answers all of my questions with a great, lighthearted demeanor and amazing bedside manners. Where should I start Dr.Shin is an amazing dentist his hands are like feathers. 7 yrs I’ve been going to him he has done all my inlays and all my crowns. All my visits with him has been painless free from getting injected with the needle to the end of the procedure. His staff are all wonderful and so nice and they all treat the patient like family. Dr.Shin is very honest never pushes a treatment unless it needs to like every other dentist I’ve been too. Front desk ladies wonderful they will help you with insurance and payment plans if you need to. I would recommend this office with no problem and no hesitation. Keep it up guys

If you are looking for a sincere dentist who actually cares about their patients rather than just their bottom line, I recommend Dr. Shin. In summary: – Personalized care: Dr. Shin will customize your visit according to how you prefer it. For example, I am a patient who likes to know what is going on during a visit. Dr. Shin is patient and explains in detail what he sees, what is plans to do, and consults with me on next steps. I have had too many experiences when dentists just start drilling without even asking me or telling me. I’m sure the if you do not want to know, he won’t tell you! In today’s busy world, Dr. Shin’s services are truly unique. He makes it easy to schedule appointments via his website, calling, texting, and email. He actually even personally calls you back! What doctor or dentist does that these days? – Sincere: Dr. Shin seems to truly care about your experience rather than just the bottom line. When I left in the middle of my root canal (from another dentist) to see Dr. Shin, he gave me a full second opinion and even said he would refer me out since there was a possibility my situation was more specialized than his training. In the end, my situation wasn’t that bad and he was able to take care of it and 100% to my satisfaction. Often times, I go to dentist, there is always something wrong (another cavity, another something), yet they say I take good care of my teeth. But with Dr. Shin, I do not feel like there is always something that needs drilling! As some background, I started going to Dr. Shin earlier this year because of a bad experience with a current dentist. I literally left in the middle of a root canal. I found Dr. Shin on dentistdig.com (a website referral from a friend who does media medical research). There was a great review and I chose to try him. So I’m putting this review up as a completely unbiased person who has had some major work done and also preventative work done (cleaning that doesn’t hurt!). I am having a great experience. I plan on having teeth whitening done next month and am sure it will go just as well. All in all, this is one of the best dentist experiences I have ever had and I plan on staying with him for as long as I am in NY.
