Dr. Handshuh is amazing! This review is from someone who has a MAJOR fear of dentists, and personal issues that make going to the dentist (being reclined, being in a vulnerable position, etc.) an extremely stressful situation. Dr. Handshuh, however, is so caring and patient! She explains everything she is doing, before she actually does it so there are no surprises. She offers nitrous oxide during treatment to help calm nerves. Her assistant is also wonderful and extremely patient. The two of them work together like clockwork and have a mutual friendship (I don’t know what the previous person was talking about when she gave Dr. Handshuh one star for poor treatment of her employees). I’ve been going to Dr. Handshuh for over 5 years and I’ve never had any problems or felt uncomfortable with the staff. I’ve even had to call for dental emergencies after hours/weekends and Dr. Handshuh made a special appointment just to get my issue resolved right away. HIGHLY recommend Dr. Handshuh!!!

We have been going to Dr. Handshuh for 13 years. She was recommended to me by a co-worker.  At the time I was looking for a dentist for my kids who were 4 and 7.  She is knowledgeable, professional, makes you feel at ease and she explains what she is doing every step of the way.  She is also great with kids. They even have a treasure chest where kids get to select a small toy. My kids looked forward to that when they were little. Her staff is also wonderful and very welcoming Before we found Dr. Handshuh I avoided getting my teeth cleaned due to a bad experience with a dentist who was rough and made my gums bleed. That has never happened with Dr. Handshuh.  I also appreciate their call when we are due for a checkup or a cleaning. One less thing to try to remember. We wouldn’t go to anyone else and we highly recommend her.

The absolute BEST in dentists!  Dr Handshuh is kind, gentle and does a great job.  My husband has a bad dental issues from another dentist and Dr H has taken over and does everything she can to resolve someone else’s mess up. Not a huge corporate dental group… everyone in the office Alyssia are allWONDERFUL!

This office was actually recommended to me after mentioning I wanted a second opinion on something, but I have a long unsettling history with dental visits and was nervous to try somewhere new.  So I went hesitantly and expected to have another uncomfortable and scary visit.  It wasn’t but a few minutes into my appointment I could already tell I was going to be ok.  Not only was I greeted like an old friend when I walked in, but Dr. Handshauh was so gentle and warm towards me, she understood my discomfort due to traumatic experiences in the past and didn’t treat me like I was being dramatic but was light-hearted about it and caring.. she told a few jokes to lighten my mood a little and I genuinely really liked her. She also seemed to have a great rapport with her employees as everyone seemed to get along very well and played off one another’s jokes.  The best part was her second opinion was very reassuring and I know now my last office was trying to pull one over on me and have me do extra unnecessary and very invasive work.  I also have some discoloration on my teeth from childhood and I have never been to a dentist that has mentioned they could help with that before. I have usually been told that due to the fluoride level in the states I grew up in as a child that it just could not be helped.  She provided an alternative that has never been presented to me before and its a perfect option for me.  I was also very happy with my hygienist who was very gentle and did a wonderful job.  I will continue to go here, and I am actually looking forward to my next appointment, which I can promise you, has never ever been the case before.

A WORD FROM YOUR DOCTOR

Dr. Handshuh was born in the state of Washington and moved to Cerritos, California as a child. She attended public schools in Lakewood and graduated from Mayfair High School. Dr. Handshuh started college at California State University at Long Beach as an Art General Major. While going to school, she was working as a dental assistant in Downey and Long Beach. She enjoyed working in dentistry and eventually changed her major to Dental Hygiene. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from USC, graduating cum laude in 1986.She worked as a dental hygienist for 3 years and decided to go further, applying to dental school. She was looking forward to being able to do more for patients and using more of her artistry skills by becoming a dentist. She was accepted into the UCLA School of Dentistry and graduated in 1994.She received awards of merit in Oral Medicine, Special Patient Care, and for Team Approach to Patient Care. She was elected to the Honorary Dental Society Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Epsilon Zeta chapter, for superior achievement in dental school. After graduation, Dr. Handshuh worked as an associate for several excellent private practice dentists in Cerritos, Marina Del Rey, and Malibu. In 1997, Dr. Handshuh started working in her current practice in Lakewood, taking over the practice of Peter Moskowitz when he retired. She has enjoyed working in the area she grew up in, seeing family, friends, and neighbors as well as patients from Lakewood, Cerritos, Bellflower, Long Beach, Cypress, Artesia and surrounding cities. She loves the ability to help people become comfortable in their mouths, obtaining and keeping oral health. One of her favorite things about practicing dentistry is meeting new people, getting to know them, their interests and joys. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to their oral health and well-being, hopefully making friends along the way.
