I have been going to Mark Sakakura for three decades now he is great listens to your needs and is very patient gentle and takes the time to explain what he’s doing if it’s a cleaning or ruth canal ! He’s the best long over due for a review Thanks Mark

What a life saver. Dr Sakakura improved the integrity of my teeth and gums without having to resort to painful and risky surgery. He and his staff are patient, kind and caring. I heard about him through word of mouth and will continue to recommend him to others.

Best dentist. The staff are so sweet and friendly, the hours are so flexible (they’ve stayed late to accommodate me before!) Dr. Sakakura does the cleanings himself and there is NO up charging. Find yourself a dentist you trust with your teeth, not just the ones that give out free candy!

Skim B. from Brea, CA (Source: Yelp)

I have been going to Dr. Sakakura since 1997.  He is very good at dentistry and very honest.  Everyone I referred became a patient and love him.  I must have referred at least a dozen relatives, friends and coworkers over the years.  You will not find a better dentist.

I basically only write Yelp reviews for things like doctors and dentists, because there’s a million people who’ll give you details on a hamburger — but your health is what really matters! I’ve been in LA for 3 years and searching for a great dentist like the one I had in NYC. I started seeing a dentist in Santa Monica who was extremely popular with people at my company (Dr. M) — I thought it was nice at first, but then realized he was just trying to upsell me so I decided to check our Dr. Sakakura. Everyone at the office was extremely kind and warm. Dr. Sakakura did my cleaning entirely himself (not just poking around at the end) and was extremely thorough. I have never felt my teeth cleaner even after ‘deep scalings’ from other dentists. In fact, he said my dental hygiene was great (the previous dentist said I should come in for cleanings THREE times a year, which insurance doesn’t pay for, by the way.) He seemed concerned with my overall oral health, my bite, any neck pain or headaches I might have that were from my teeth. His bedside manner was friendly, relaxed, and gentle. What I really loved was it was clear they just take their job seriously. Anyone can clean teeth well and be friendly, but to be 5 stars I think it needs to go above and beyond. He noticed a little stain on my tooth from when I had braces back in the day. Most dentists have tried to sell me on teeth whitening…he just went ahead and buffed it right out. Later, Liz the dental hygienist took my Invisalign retainer and cleaned it up for me (amazing!) She also thoughtfully put my phone somewhere it wouldn’t fall and was very attentive to any allergies I might have. When the other dentist in Santa Monica told me I needed to take out all my fillings and replace them, Dr. Sakakura explained that there was no real need to do that if my fillings were in good shape except for cosmetic reasons. I’m so happy to have found a great dentist local to me!

my family has always gone to Dr. Sakakura. He is professional and very gentle with your teeth! I absolutely hate dentist appointments but Dr. Sakakura definitely takes care of you! He is a perfectionist so expect perfect teeth! 🙂

I was told in college that I would need to get my wisdom tooth removed. So what do I do?  Well, I waited until the next millenium to have it done. Dr. Sakakura was originally referred to me by a close friend who said that he was “wuunnderful!.” A wonderful dentist?! I’ve been his patient for about 2 years. The office works to fit me in when I have time off.  Madge schedules me on Fridays “without happy faces.” (Happy faces are pay day Fridays for the office). Dr. Sakakura has a calm and soothing  manner when he is cleaning my teeth or extracting my wisdom tooth. I didn’t grow up with Mr. Rogers, but I guess Dr. Sakakura could be compared to a Japanese American Mr. Rogers, sans the cardigan. He makes me feel so reassured that I almost say, “hold the novocaine.” (But of course I don’t because, who’s going to get their teeth removed without novocaine)?! I had to reschedule my extraction THREE times due to travel and work, and not once was I made to feel like a scaredy-cat. You’ll get a toothbrush, travel size toothpaste (great for the TSA travel requirements–don’t forget your clear ziploc bag), and travel size floss after each cleaning.   Comprehensive/ Cosmetic Dentistry and Orthodontics. Paid lot only and no parking validation.

Best dentist anyone could ask for. The entire staff is kind, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Dr. S is gentle and makes every dental trip more than tolerable (and no one likes going to the dentist.) I’d give him and everyone in that office 10 stars if I could.

Nes L. from Los Angeles, CA (Source: Yelp)

Let me begin by saying that I have suffered from dental phobia for decades, and I have not had any dental work done in over 30 years, because of the awful experiences I suffered as a child and as a teenager.  However, I can honestly tell you that has  all changed as of today.  I had no choice but to finally go to the dentist office as I have been having many problems with my teeth for quite sometime now, but it got worse this past week.  A friend from work referred me to Dr. Sakakura, and just like any other time, I was afraid…I arrived shaking at the knees.  Well, let me tell you that the way I was received by the front desk person, and how Dr. Sakakura came out to meet me, and just hear me out, made me feel a little bit better, immediately.  I spoke so much about my fears, and they listened to me.  Then, the moment I dreaded arrived after filling out the paperwork…IT WAS TIME TO SIT IN THAT SEAT I HAVE HATED FOR YEARS, and let someone examine my mouth.  However, he took his time, again…explaining what he was going to do, and listened to me talk about my fears again.  He has a very nice way of speaking to people…he calmed me down, and I allowed him to examine my teeth.  I agreed to the work I needed done on my teeth, and the whole experience was not as bad as I thought it would be.  He talked to me throughout the whole process, and I couldn’t have felt safer, and in better hands. Let’s face it, whether we are afraid or not, our teeth need attention, and I learned today that the key  is to find a person who makes you feel comfortable enough to have dental work performed.  Therefore, I want to highly recommend Dr. Sakakura to everyone looking for a dentist, and specially to others who suffer from dental phobia.  Thank you, Dr. Sakakura, you’ve changed my mind about dentists. I can’t believe it, I am actually looking forward to my next dental appointment, and having the rest of the work that is needed finally done.  If I can do it, you can too.

This is my first Yelp review.   I just wanted to sign on and say I really enjoy going to Dr. Sakakura and seeing Marge at the front desk. Dr. Sakakura is very knowledgeable but also does not make the dental work painful. He does better dental work than most dentists in that he only uses white fillings (I know this sounds like a duh, but I went to Western Dental once, shame on me lol)  and instead of just brushing my teeth when you come in for your general check up, he picked the plaque out of every single one of my teeth! Sorry this is kind of TMI but a lot of dentists are like mechanics because they know you don’t really know whats going on inside of your mouth. I appreciated the attention to detail and the fact the he went old school on my mouth with the little metal pick. Also a very convenient location on Wilshire right over the 110 and near the 7th street Metro station (that is in the Dark Knight Rises near the end doubling as one of Gotham’s Metro station). Thank you, oshogatsu omedetou!

Excellent dentist! Dr Sakakura has done an amazing job with my teeth since having a bad experience at a fancy dentist hospital. This place is very cozy office with friendly staff. Gave me the best brushing advise I’ve heard so far that’s changed the wellness of my teeth!

Best Dentist in Los Angeles, a proud customer for over 30 years. Super gentle, excellent service. Have never had any problems with setting appointments. Marg is the best. Whether a cleaning, caps, cavities you’re in the best of hands. Parking is available in the same building, street parking also available.

Mary H. from Central LA, Los Angeles, CA (Source: Yelp)

After going to Dr. Sakakura for over a year now, I can honestly say that he is the best dentist I have ever had.  He truly seems to care about my teeth and helping me keep them.  He does the most thorough dental cleaning, by hand, and makes it an almost pleasant experience.  His staff is also friendly, kind, and helpful.  I feel I am in good hands all around and   highly recommend.

My dentist of 14+ years! I can only say great things of Dr. Mark Sakakura and his staff. He is very gentle, great work, flexible hours and very giving of his time to those in need. Dr. Sakakura and his staff are like family to us. He currently takes care of 20+ family and friends of mine. We sometimes have reunions in his lobby. LOL

Remy L. from Los Angeles, CA (Source: Yelp)

If you’re like me and had any fear of the dentist or just haven’t been in FOOOOOOOR EEEVVVVVVER, this is the Dentist for you. I had an insane tooth pain, I called this office and told them I needed to see the dentist. I was told the soonest the Doctor would would be able to see me was about two weeks out. I explained to the receptionist just how bad the pain was, like I YouTubed how to remove it myself, and she got me in within 15 minutes!!! Embarrassingly enough the last time I went to the dentist was in college and it was a frat brother so I had no idea where to even start. The receptionist helped me out so much, the assistant was very polite and professional, and Doctor Sakakura is honest and professional. The honest part is what I appreciated most. He told me I needed to have the wisdom tooth removed and he’d see if he’d be able to do it himself. If not, instead of having me spend money with no result, he’d recommend me to another Dentist who’d be able to remove it. This place gets 5 stars hands down!

Perry H. from Pasadena, CA (Source: Yelp)

Dr. Sakakura was GREAT, friendy, kind and very gental and his entire staff too, thank you Liz….. I cant say enough great things about him, I would HIGHLY recommend. Sincerely Perry

Maureen P. from Granada Hills, CA (Source: Yelp)

best dentist ever, even for this dental phobic patient. NOt only is he kind, patient, gentle and warm, but he also does exceptionally professional work. Can’t say enough not only about Dr. S, but also about the wonderfully warm and accommodating staff.  Cannot go wrong here.

Marko C. from Los Angeles, CA (Source: Yelp)

I would give 10,000,000 stars to Dr. Mark Sakakura if I could!   I’ve been with Dr. Sakakura for about 9 years now and I haven’t found another dentist who is more talented and patient than he is. You walk into the reception area and you are greeted with a salt-water fishtank with tons of colorful fish.  Very relaxing.  Then, a cute little welcoming voice welcomes you to the office (Marjorie, the receptionist & office manager). I’ve had root canals, crowns, gum surgery, braces / retainers, teeth whitening, and just about everything that you can think of at this office.  Dr. Sakakura is a well trained dentist; he used to also teach part time at USC’s dental school.  He’s not only a talented professional, but he also is a very generous and gentle soul.  He is very careful with his procedures and does very accurate work. I enjoy smiling and eating, because of Dr. Mark Sakakura!

Jerry H. from La Crescenta-Montrose, CA (Source: Yelp)

Dr. Sakakura’s been my dentist for as long as I could remember,  Ever since I had to take out my baby teeth to now. I’ve even tried other dentists in the past only due to the fact that he’s not exactly located close to where I live, but have yet to find an equal that can give my teeth the care it desperately needs from my fail of a good flossing habit…. ^_^;; no matter what, I still get calcium builds and no one but Sakakura seems to find every last one of them. So if you need a cleaning extremely bad that always comes with good care and service, I would definitely recommend Dr. Sakakura. A dentist like him is extremely hard to come by.

Carol S. from Santa Cruz, CA (Source: Yelp)

Wow! I have never ever had such a great comforting experience at a dentist office! As a busy student and full time worker it’s difficult for me to keep up with eating a nutritious lunch, so you can imagine how little effort I put into making sure I make a visit to the dentist. This was the best experience I have ever had. Gave me full attention, explained what was happening and was very comfortable. Definitely making this my go to office!

Rachel K. from Los Angeles, CA (Source: Yelp)

I didn’t believe that a dentist could have 5 stars, but after 6 months with Dr. Sakakura, I have to agree.  I look forward to going to the dentist now.  He and everyone who works in his office are the friendliest, most helpful people.  When I got my splint, he threw in three sessions for adjustment at no additional charge.  His office staff worked with me on billing to make things easier .  I have had two cleanings there now and I’ve nearly fallen asleep both times!  I highly recommend Dr. Sakakura.

Rindarah R. from Monrovia, CA (Source: Yelp)

Looking for a dentist?  You have to give Dr. Sakakura a try.  I was recommended to him by a friend and was glad I went.  I’ve been a client now for 6 years and tell all my friends.  The office is conveniently located in Downtown LA and everything inside the dental office is clean as a whistle!!  Mrs. T, the receptionist, always has a welcoming smile to greet you and is always soooo nice!!  Dr. Sakakura’s passion and pride in his work is very evident.  What I like most about Dr. Sakakura is the care and time he takes to make sure that I’m comfortable and he never seems to rush things.  Plus his prices are extremely reasonable!! I highly recommend Dr. Sakakura for all your dental needs as he offers regular dental work, orthodontics, and cosmetics.

Mike R. from Los Angeles, CA (Source: Yelp)

If I could award five stars to Yelp for enabling me to find Dr. Mark I would. I’m new in town as evidenced by my being 30 minutes late for my first appointment. Not only was I patiently accommodated,  but I was given a hot cup of tea when I arrived as I was more upset at myself than they were at me. I’ve since had an extraction and root canal, and while I can’t say it was a blast, I can say Dr. Mark’s kindness and calm uber-professionalism never left me with a second of apprehension or fear. Besides being a supremely competent dentist Dr. Sakakura has a gentle manner that instills a great calm in his patients. When my jaw swelled up on vacation, Dr. Sakakura not only responded immediately and effectively, he gave me his cell phone number just in case. Also, I cannot say enough for Mrs. T, Madge, and the rest of the staff who actually make me feel like I am in my own living room rather than at the dentist. And for all this his prices actually seem to be LOWER than other dentists. “I should probably raise my prices” was the last thing he told me. Believe me, I wouldn’t complain. Seriously, check this guy out…especially if you’ve been putting off a visit out of a fear of dentists. I guarantee you will feel a million times better after leaving his office.
