What a super dentist for kids! This office is completely oriented towards a welcoming environment for children. All of the hygienists and assistants (that we’ve seen) are really gentle and friendly. Dr. Mike is an excellent dentist, taking lots of time and really communicating any issues. So even if you have kids that get skittish around doctors it dentists, they will come out smiling. In fact, if your kids are like that, then this is definitely your dentist. Good coffee in the lobby, too!

Love Dr. Mike and all the wonderful staff here. Super professional and they have a big room where my two kids can have cleanings together (SO great to not have to split myself in two or make back to back appointments). They also do exams for young kids (under 30 months) for free, just to help get them used to coming to the dentist. I love that! The office does inhaled sedation for kids who will stay still/chill enough for less extensive restoration, but use a pediatric anesthesiologist for complex or long cases. DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING LESS if your child needs actual anesthesia. As a nurse, I do not want someone who does not have MANY years of experience and expertise putting my child under anesthesia. I have always felt like this office offers a very balanced, practical approach to treating my kids teeth and I so appreciate that. Plus, everyone is so darn nice! Can’t recommend enough.

Kiddos had their teeth cleaning and it went well. The only downfall is waiting for the doc to give the ok. The kids were done in 15mins but had to wait additionally time for him to take a look. I checked in at 1pm, I walked out 2:15pm.
The office have family suits were they can do two people in one room which is nice, kids get to pick out a movie and they don’t have much in the waiting room expect a touch game screen on the wall.

My son enjoyed the family environment if the office and his cleaning was pleasurable. My son needed a lot of work and there was a bit if a breakdown in communication with my wife as to the treatment options. My wife felt pressured to book and make a decision on this extensive work which included general anesthesia. Upon getting the work done elsewhere, I called and talked to Dr. Shannon and shared my frustrations. Mr. Shannon did a superb job and took 45 minutes of his valuable time to explain his standard of care and the personal attention that he gave to reviewing the x-rays and how he came about his determination. Perhaps listing the treatment options on their bids in plain english would help, OR a simple follow up call a week later once the gravity of the news in difficult/complex has been discussed. Thanks Dr. Shannon, you seem like a great guy.

Adding an update: A few weeks ago my 3 1/2 year old fell and knocked his front tooth on a Friday night around 8pm. It was started coming almost straight out. I called Dr. Shannons emergency line and he has me send him a photo. He called me back right away and told me to meet him at the office. The root was compromised and the tooth needed to be extracted. He was SOO GREAT. He was so fun and careful with my son and turned what could have been a terrifying experience into one that my son actually enjoyed! He left with too many prizes to count and a big toothless smile. 🙂 He can’t wait to go back and see the Dentist again. Thanks Dr. Shannon!! We love Dr. Mike and his staff. Both of my kids always look forward to going to the dentist and most night when we brush my daughters teeth she asks if it’s time to go to the dentist yet. They get to wear sun glasses, watch movies and leaves with Pretty princess teeth along with stickers and a prize. I have worked in the dentistry industry for years and even in a different peso office and I have to say these guys are GREAT!

This place is mommy approved but most importantly toddler approved! My 2 year old son loved visiting the dentist today he kept asking fore “more” of the bubble gum flavored paste. The staff is super friendly. My son was curious with all the instruments and the lady cleaned his teeth took the time show him everything and all the cool stuff it can do. As a mom of a curious toddler I appreciated that so much! This is our second visit here and every visit we’ve been greeted by friendly staff. I highly recommend this dentistry

Took my 6 year old grandson here for a second opinion. The staff, waiting room and exam rooms were comfortable and designed with kids in mind. TV’s with Nemo playing in every room and even on the ceiling for the kids to watch while laying back in the chair. Kevin was very comfortable and especially liked the sun glasses they gave him to wear.
Dr. Shannon made good suggestions for Kevin’s care. Since he doesn’t have insurance Dr. Shannon recommended that we take him to Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Dr. Shannon went to the Internet himself and looked up the phone # for us. We were also given a quote if we wanted to pay for the services Kevin needed, which was 2 root canals. I was very surprised with the quote and felt it was very reasonable.
We decided to go with his recommendations of going to Loma Linda which worked out well for my daughter, being a single mother.
I definitely recommend Dr. Shannon and will take Kevin there again if finances allow.

Dr. Mike Shannon is great!!!! Dr. Mike’s office is very warm, welcoming and FUN. My son LOVES going to the dentist. I never thought I would utter those words! Their fish tank is set up to look like the one from Finding Nemo, complete with all the fish! Dr. Mike is calm, kind and very positive. He and his staff make the whole experience delightful and stress-free for the kids. When the visit begins, the kids get to pick out silly glasses to wear, and choose a yummy flavor of tooth cleaner (they offer tons of flavors-who knew there were so many!). Then the kids get get to choose a movie they will watch during the visit. Dr. Mike has every DVD your child can think of- and all the latest releases, of course. And, of course there is a prize at the end of the visit. If you’re looking for a dentist for your kids, make an appointment with Dr. Mike. You will be glad you did, because your kids are going to love their experience and actually look forward to visiting again!

Wonderful staff and dentist reception, as always!!!We recently returned to Dr. Shannon’s practice and got to see that they’ve moved to another office location. They have their own spacious parking lot. No need for validating parking here, although their staff had always taken care of the parking and it was so kind of them. GPS did take me through the mall parking lot so it confused me at first, but if you’re driving by the post office, you’re in the right direction. Their building is just below the Mission Viejo Mall/Nordstrom and it’s behind a row of smaller series of businesses. I believe there was a sushi restaurant among them. Located on the second floor, the building is very bright and modern. Unbeknownst to me, our appointment was during their lunch hour (12-2) and doors were locked, but when we knocked close to our appointment time, they accommodated and opened for us. They’re wonderful and so friendly! Always such a pleasant experience and one less worry about nerves in bringing my son here. He’s been a patient since he was two. I highly recommend Dr. Shannon’s office for any pediatric dentist needs. Thanks again so much, Dr. Shannon and Staff!

My son just turned 2 so I desperately tried to find a decent pediatric dentist that was patient and good with kids. We were seen right away and were told to pick a movie for the room, I thought that was a nice little distraction especially being a kids 1st time in a dentist chair and getting your teeth cleaned. Dr. Shannon was very nice and made everything very easy, and answered all my questions. After the cleaning my son got to pick out a sticker and a toy and was very happy in the end. I definitely recommend this place. 5 stars!

My 15 month old tripped and fell and chipped his front teeth, we went into Dr. Shannon today and he was exceptional. He not only made my son feel comfortable during the initial meeting, but me, as a worried mother, as well. Some filing of the teeth had to be done, but Dr. Shannon made the process fairly quick and answered all my questions. My son was excited to pick out a little prize afterwards, too. The front office staff was warm and welcoming as well. This was my sons first dentist appointment and I’m very happy with my decision to choose Dr. Shannon.

My only problem with this dentistry is that he is considered a premium dentist. With that being said. Many of you have PPO insurance which only covers a percentage of the bill. You will receive a post bill for a general cleaning and cavity check. Beware. Otherwise; great guy and great place.

We went to see Dr. Shannon today and we had a wonderful experience. The front staff is very friendly and accommodating. The dental assistants are so kind and love to show kids about the proper cleaning techniques. Dr. Shannons is very profesional. My kids need a lot of dental treatment and he was willing to give options in what to do about the treatment. Which is great because not a lot of pediatric dentist to that. They usually want to pull the kids to sleep and not deal with them while they make ” their job”. I can tell right away that Dr. Shannons doesn’t roll like that. He seems very honest and truly cares about his patients. We will be defiantly going back. To finish our dental treatment and then every six months for cleaning and check ups. I think we have found our new pediatric dentist.

I cannot say enough about Dr. Mike and his entire staff. Everyone is friendly and accommodating to each child’s individual needs. They always made my children feel welcome and comfortable despite being nervous. We have had our fare share of dental visits including dental work that required anesthesia and Dr. Mike and his staff were amazing through the entire process. He is very patient, thorough and I have no doubt he is honest in his work and recommendations. Both offices are always clean and inviting with fish tanks, books and games. Our appointments have been on time and the assistants, hygienist and front office staff are always thorough. I highly recommend Dr. Mike! We are so sad we moved out of state. I have considered driving the 5 plus hours just to see him every six months

I’m not a big “going to the dentist” person myself, especially since you can’t trust that the services they’re recommending are actually necessary, so for my kids, I was even more picky. I was referred to Dr. Shannon by my kids’ pedi and in short, he is AMAZING!!!! The one thing I love about him is that he doesn’t recommend more than what needs to be done (I know this because I took her to a couple dentists and was able to weed out the money makers). My daughter was in a lot of pain and needed quite a bit of work done (crowns and baby root canals) and he was the only one who gave me the option of happy air instead of anesthesia. He’s super professional, informative, and gets the job done as fast as he can for having a wiggly wormy patient in his chair. Now if I can only find a dentist like that for myself The best part, they’re great on time. I’ve never had to wait in the office. The office is very comforting and inviting, especially for the kiddos. They get to choose a movie to watch during their procedure.. They have blankets to keep them comfy and cozy.. They even provide little goodie bags for the kids after everything is done, including a “prize” of their choice!

I wish he was around when I was little!!!! We recently took our two year old son in for his very first dentist appointment. My husband and I was super nervous because our son is really hyper-active. But that fear was put to rest as soon as we got here. First off the office is beautiful, there are a bunch of fish tanks with beautiful exotic fish. Also they had a TV already playing Sesame Street! There are a bunch of toys and books so your child doesn’t get bored. When we got in the room they have a TV on the ceiling so they can watch it during the exam. I am not all about just sticking my kid in front of a TV to entertain them, but when you need them to sit still it is perfect! The Hygienist came in and she new all the tricks to get my some to open up his mouth and actually let her do the exam, instead of just keeping his mouth closed. She showed him everything and explained to him what she was going to do prior, so he was not scared. I forget her name but she was so patient. Then Dr. Shannon comes in and he is just a sweetheart and awesome with kids. My son got to pick out a toy and got a cute penguin toothbrush so he was thrilled. I highly recommend if you have kids BRING THEM HERE THEY WILL WANT TO GO TO THE DENTIST!!!!! Thanks Dr. Mike we will see you in six months 🙂

Seriously one of the best pediatric dentists I have ever known. The whole experience is designed to put your child at ease – and it does. My kids actually beg to go see Dr. Shannon, and they get jealous when one of the goes and the other doesn’t need to be seen. They fight over wanting to go – unheard of. His staff is super nice and very welcoming, and it goes without saying that Dr. Shannon is awesome. He also offers prizes for kids with good checkups and lets the kids choose samples to take home, along with stickers, prizes and toothbrushes. Kids get to choose what movie they want to watch or what they want to listen to during treatment – and the staff goes over and beyond to ensure your children have a pleasant experience.

Dr. Michael Shannon is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (Board Certified) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Mike completed his Pediatric Dentistry Residency and masters in science at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston part of the world renowned Texas Medical Center. He attended dental school at The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. Dr. Mike completed his undergraduate studies at Pepperdine University in Malibu, where he was a member of their 1992 National Championship Men’s Volleyball Team. Since completing his pediatric dental training Dr. Mike has worked in private practice, as well as served as a faculty member at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. Born and raised in southern California Dr. Mike is excited to be back in Orange County. He currently resides in San Clemente with his wife Samantha and sons Spencer and Owen. Dr. Mike enjoys spending time with his family, working out, and longboarding. Dr. Mike is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Orange County Dental Society.
