I should start off by saying that I hate the dentist. That said, I will follow this practice anywhere. I can speak with authority on Dr. Ari and Dr. Jen because I have been in both of their chairs. They have served me, my husband and my two year old. And I have had cleanings, dental work and cosmetic dentistry done at Modern Family Dentistry. The office: Clean, clean, clean. Everything is new. It is, well, modern and tastefully decorated in the spirit of their neighboring brownstones. Since it is a family office there are toys you wouldn’t mind your child handling. Coffee table books you wouldn’t mind reading and furniture for you and your tot. There is even a prize wall for the little ones after they complete an exam. The staff: They have handled my reschedules with the same grace and efficency that they have handled my toddler when I am in the chair. I never have a problem securing an appointment, particularly the one time I had a dental emergency. I don’t wait. I get whichever referrals I need. I am greeted by name when I walk in. A small thing but nice to know that you won’t be lost in the shuffle. There are no billing surprises thanks to an efficient print out with an animation of your teeth and the cost of the dental work broken down under it. And you and the doctors create your plan together. The nitty gritty: Dr. Ari and Dr. Jen are young, hip and know their way around a mouth. Their youth was a pleasant surprise as they are clearly up on all the new technology and open to alternative ideas. They listen to their patients and involve you in your treatment plan. And both have a great bedside manner and way of putting you at ease. My two year old even allowed a cleaning. Twice. There are tilting screen televisions in their offices that offer a nice distraction and laughing gas, which they are not afraid to use (the laughing gas is an extra cost but when I got work done it would have been worth it at twice the price!). Both doctors have a gentle but confident touch. All in all, with bias…albeit unpaid, uncompensated bias…if you must visit a dentist look no further.

I recently switched from my dentist in Manhattan to Mod Fam and can’t say enough positives about the personal experience and professionalism exhibited by Dr. Marin, Dr. Crystal-Ornelas, and their staff. They take the time to explain everything and don’t just rush you in and out for the next patient. The monitors on the ceiling of the exam rooms with aquarium videos really take your mind off everything too !

I have been on yelp for 7 years and so far have written only 2 reviews, and I absolutely HATE going to the dentist. However, two visits to Modern Family Dentistry and I feel compelled to share my great experience. First, we took our almost two year old for her first visit to the dentist. Dr. Ari Crystal-Ornelas started off by walking out into the waiting area and introducing himself, and asking my daughter if she wanted to color, showing her the teeth of a dinosaur, and generally just making her feel comfortable. The place is extremely clean and modern, and the rooms all have TVs – my daughter could sit on my lap and pick a show to watch as he got her to let him examine her teeth. She didn’t cry one time.  I went back for a cleaning, x-rays and ultimately to have a couple of cavities filled. Dr. Jen Marin ensured a pain free procedure, fantastic patient care, and patience when I had to stop a few times.  I was so impressed by my experience here I had to share with others. I have been to a few dentists, but now I’m hooked on MFD, as is my family.

Dr. Ari was amazing! Modern Family squeezed me in for an emergency dental exam same day because I was having pain. Dr. Ari explained exactly what was going on and what my options were, and I never felt rushed. Ultimately, I needed to see a specialist, and Dr. Ari provided local recommendations. Wonderful experience.

To say I am elated that I found Dr. Ari (and Dr. Lauren) is an understatement. I have been going to this office for only 6 months but it has been the best 6 months. I am on a long road to fixing dental issues and after years of dreading the dentist I no longer do so. I am excited for the eventual end results because of Dr. Ari and his team. My work consists of fillings, wisdom tooth removal, crowns, and down the road orthodontics work and veneers. They always make sure the patient is comfortable, knows what is happening, and does not pressure them to make decisions. The equipment in office is top of the line, there is no shortage of staff present, and everyone is always pleasant. I highly recommend MFD for all dental needs! Thank you!!

Modern Family Dentistry is the best. I have been a patient for almost 3 years and I feel completely confident in giving them my highest recommendation. I’ve had several different procedures and have been completely satisfied with both the work and the cost. They are also some of the most friendly health professionals in the business.

Completely recommend Modern Family Dentistry if you are looking for dental care. Today I went in for a bonding, but Dr. Ari had second thoughts. He told me a gum graft would be better for the long run. I loved how he wasn’t afraid to tell me what was best for me, despite me having to go home and schedule another appointment. This is what good healthcare looks like. I always find that dentists are the nicest doctors around and Dr. Ari and his staff our no exception.

WOW, never would I have thought that I wouldn’t be afraid to go to the dentist. The great reviews on yelp definitely got me to try this place out but their friendly, honest, caring service has made me a loyal patient. The office was very clean and was not busy at all when I arrived for my appointment. When making your appointment you have to full some forms out online so that at the time of your visit you do not have to do anything. Since it was my first visit ever, I had to take a few X-rays but it was super quick and then I was lead to my room. The hygienist, Marissa was SUPER friendly and caring. She explained every detail of what each X-ray showed and how and why she was going to perform my cleaning. She answered every and any questions I had with a smile and reassured me about any concerns I brought up. Dr. Arie was amazing as well during my check up. He was very honest with his evaluation and made sure that I left with an upcoming plan that I was comfortable with and would most benefit me. I am already inviting all of my friends and family to try them out! I am actually looking forward to my next visit as crazy as that may sound! Thank you Modern Family Dentistry for giving me a place where I can feel comfortable about dental work.

I am a SEVERE Phobic when it comes to needles, as such I HATE going too the Dentist, in fact I was so bad that for anything more then a simple cleaning, I needed to be knocked out otherwise it was not happening. That was before I tried this place, Dr Ari and Dr Jen are simply fantastic when it comes to working with Phobics. They explain everything they are doing in simple terms and they are masters at doing even complex procedures painlessly. The office is clean and high tech, They do a LOT of work with children so they have kids toys in the waiting room and a wall with drawings the kids do, One of the things I like the most about this place is that it doesn’t have that “Sterile Operating theater” feel that other Dentists I have gone to have, There is music (and GOOD music, not just Muzak) to help relax you, and when you are in the chair, they even have a TV on the ceiling above the chair that normally pays some aquatic videos, but you can ask them to put on whatever you want so you have something to focus on other then the work being done… However, all of this pales in comparison to the Doctors themselves, Dr Ari and Dr Jen are young, highly skilled and simply masters at working with Phobics.. The first time I had to have a Cavity filled, I felt so comfortable with them that I decided to go for it with just Nitrous and the wand. (In my case it’s the Needles that get me, When I told them, they told me that they have this contraption called the STA Wand that doesn’t look anything like a Syringe, it’s computer controlled so you don’t even FEEL the anesthetic going in or anything, it’s awesome) Dr Ari was awesome, he was so in tune with not only what he was doing so he could do a great job, but more importantly he was in tune with me and would often stop to make sure I was comfortable. They will always stop when you raise your hand, At one point I needed a little more numbing, nothing major but I was starting to feel some discomfort and I was about to raise my hand to signal the Doc, but before I could even twitch a finger he stopped and said “You need more I can tell” he saw my eyes widen slightly and realized… I simply cannot say enough good things about this place

EXCELLENT, PROFESSIONAL, AND WELL STAFFED. First time client the staff was very welcoming and made me feel comfortable. Not familiar with certain things related to teeth the staff and doctor took their time to explain in minor and/or major issue in detail. Also made a plan for what will be done for future work to maximize my smile and teeth. Im happy and satisfied with the company and staff. I will definitely recommend the company to all my friends and family. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!!

Screw the decor… it’s the people here who make this practice supreme. (Front desk, dentists, all of them.) I needed a dentist for my partner who is a combat veteran and has very special circumstances that require thoughtfulness and compassion. They help him with such grace and care that no number of stars could express my gratitude. Bring your children. Bring your healthy teeth. Bring your hurt tooth.
