My entire life, 51 years, I’ve experienced a numbing sensation in and around my ear that is extremely painful when I sleep. I (used) to get it at least twice a week. It hurt so much, I’d tell my mother and she’d say roll over. My doctors including my time in the USAF never had any explanation as to how to cure or at least…, provide any comfort. At the dawn of the internet, I searched and continued to search on- line for others who experienced the same pain and came up with a small ‘thread’ of people who described the same thing. But, …not a one seemed to offer an explanation??? We were all left with not enough information as we all felt it was too rare to truly and successfully diagnose. I felt then it was just something that made me, -me. Fast forward, I met Dr Zane’s dental hygienist Joseph at Barry’s Bootcamp. He and I worked without knowing each other till one day in conversation, I told Joseph about my (chronic and severe) outer ear pain. He told me he was a hygienist asked me about my bite and said it might be my ‘alignment’ and if I wanted to he could set me up to meet his collegue, Dr Zane. When I arrived for my first appointment I told Dr Zane about the pain and told him how I never felt people never took me seriously because what I was feeling was so rare. I described it as a crushing and sharp pain in and around my ear-the actual cartilage of my ear. He began his examination like a full body physical, asking me to hold my arms out, rotate my neck, twist, bend, lift, even remain still and hold to a position where he tested my strength. I began to feel he was more than a dentist, this guy is a healer. He believed my pain was from my jaw not being in alignment and the clenching and snoring I lived with was that of someone who need a major oral alignment. My left side of my jas was curved in and the teeth never ‘met’ when closed. (I should say too, my previous dentist of 15 years never made the connection, nor recommended braces or an invisalign appliance.) Neil recommended ‘invisalign’ and two years later, with plenty of ‘alignments’ my teeth are now in a perfect arch, my upper and lower set close evenly AND my mouth stays cleaner after meals. My sleep is better, my snoring is substantially less, my acid reflux is way less and I am in a better mood, I am and will be forever be grateful for Neil’s compassionate approach to not only dentistry but to ‘healing.’ Dr Zane is a unique doctor, he has an amazing bedside manner, charm, wit and most of all knowledge and curiosity about not just the mouth’s of his patients but their whole body wellness. Thanks Neil. And I love Neil’s team too, -Cindy, Melinda, Ali, Joseph, Evelyn, all make going to the dentist a true pleasure.
