Top notch dental practice. Dr Kim is an amazing dentist with a very compassionate & caring staff. I had Dr. Kim replace a crown that was about seven years old, never a great fit. The whole experience was great, even my temporary crown was amazing compared to the one being replaced. I have to admit I was a little nervous thinking it could not better with the permanent crown. I was blown away, it was an even better fit and bite. Highly recommend Dr Kim and his staff!

I have a pretty big fear of dentists. I have literally cried at a dentist before (When I was 19 no less…) so when my GF told me to try Dr. Kim I walked in with trepidation. The first visit was very comforting with all the staff. I need my wisdom tooth pulled coupled with fillings and everyone was very accommodating. Dr. Kim demeanor was down to earth. His friendly and affable nature instantly put me at ease. He’s upfront and there to help you within his abilities (which are superb). Overall, I really recommend this place.

I. hate. dentists. The only thing that motivates me to visit a dentist is that gripping fear that I will have to get Serious Work done if I don’t do my biannual checkups. Dr. Kim is amazing. He does a great job explaining with just the right amount of detail the process and any precautions without setting off my anxiety. For once I didn’t feel vulnerable lying there unsure what drill, pick, or saliva slurper was about to go into the chomper (yes I get dramatic when it comes to dentists). He doesn’t rush. Dr. Kim takes time to understand your oral health and address all historical, current, and potential issues. He’s very honest, professional, and has a great sense of humor to keep patients at ease. His staff is fabulous as well. Suzanne spent the time to make sure I was doing okay during and after my drilling and gave me good tips about caring for my cavity-prone teeth. Let me tell you, I am not a fan of going to the dentist. Like most people, I dread it. I found Dr. Kim through a friend originally, so I’ve been with Dr. Kim for a few years now. I’m thrilled that Dr. Kim decided to move his practice closer to where I work = less drive for me. Dr. Kim’s dental work is first rate. He’s professional, knowledgeable and funny. He definitely makes the dental process less painful. What I like about Dr. Kim is that he is honest. I’ve had some not so good experience with dentists, but Dr. Kim always tells me whats going on and what he recommends with no pressure. Dr. Kim is definitely someone I would trust my teeth to. I don’t know what your experience with your previous dentist was like, but you really should check out Dr. Kim if your’e in the area.

One of my most dreaded childhood fears was going to the dentist. Probably a combination of drinking too much soda and bad dentists. My family couldn’t afford braces and as a result I spent most of my childhood avoiding smiling in photos because of my misaligned teeth. As an adult, I’m now taking the time to properly care for my teeth and undoing much of the damage done in my younger years. I’ve visited numerous dentists as an adult (some better than others) but was never able to decide on a dedicated dentist. Here’s where Dr. Steven Kim enters the story. I was referred to Dr. Kim by a few friends who spoke very highly of him. After meeting with him, I was very comfortable with the treatment plan he created for me and I could tell he had my best interest at heart rather than getting paid. My treatments with Dr. Kim included Clear Correct aligners, bleaching, crowns as needed and replacing my old amalgam fillings. He’s diligent about his work and very meticulous. I had four crowns made for my front teeth and he sent them back to the lab multiple times until they were perfect. I’ve been seeing Dr. Kim for a couple years and can happily say he has transformed my smile as well as my attitude about dental care. It’s a bit of a drive for me to get to his office, but it’s worth the commute in my opinion. Also, the office hygienist (Jennifer) is great. She takes the time to fully explain everything she does during your cleanings and ensures you’re super comfortable. I’ve realized how much having a nice smile has impacted my confidence and feel so much gratitude towards Dr. Kim for giving me the smile I’ve always wanted.

I’ve been a patient here for a few years and recently had to find a new dentist, simply due to the fact that I no longer work in Long Beach. I finally found THE BEST DENTIST! I have always been wary of my dentist. I am a technical person and like to understand what is going on. It has always been difficult to get useful explanations regarding health care from medical professionals(doctors, dentists, etc). I have been looking for a better approach for years. Although I live in the Napa Valley, I am a frequent visitor to SoCal. Since I had yet to find the “right dentist”, I decided to research the possibility of “Vacation Dentistry”. In anticipation to another trip to Disneyland, I found a dentist willing and able to answer the questions I have about past/present/future care, options and procedures and made an appointment. I cannot emphasize how happy that I have been with my new choice in dental care. The initial consultation was as informative as I needed to feel comfortable(again, first time ever). The facilities are very clean. The staff is wonderful. Dr. Kim has a great team working with him. Karen at the front desk is very nice and helpful. Suzanne, his assistant, has years of experience and it shows. Jennifer, a hygienist, is gentle and always does a thorough job. Due to the improvements that I have seen in my dental care, I will continue to be a patient of Dr. Kim. I highly recommend making an appointment with Dr. Kim. He is friendly and professional

Dr. Steven Kim and Ocean Heights Dental did an excellent job! After months of having an extremely sensitive tooth and eating only on the opposite side of my mouth I finally chose to get my old cracked filling replaced. It was a pretty large filling and Dr. Kim handled it with ease. The multiple shot(s) to numb my mouth were painless and the drilling didn’t hurt a bit. Today my tooth feels great and there is no soreness at all. I have been coming to long beach to have them work on my smile not because of location (as I live close to Downtown, LA) but because I know they really care about what they do. Without dental insurance, I hadn’t gone to the dentists in years so I had no idea what was in store for. The first thing Dr Kim did when I went in was to take a full xray of my teeth to find any bad fillings or cavities. At first, Jennifer, his dental hygienist made sure I had a clear understanding of what she found before cleaning my teeth. She and Dr Kim both patiently explained every procedure, and precautions of what I should expect every step of the way. She took a long time to go over every crevice, and went back to those that had extra tarter, deep into my gums. Dr Kim let me see what he was doing from a mirror. I never learned so much about dentistry and my own teeth, after seeing what he had removed and was putting in, even letting me feel his tool to educate me about what he was doing, I felt so much more at ease. Really above and beyond the scope of his practice, and what I had expected or ever experienced at a dentist’s office. He only performed what was necessary without overcharging, and I left with a feeling of relief for getting two cavities filled and a mouth guard molded for my headaches and severe grinding that no other dentist had ever noticed before. I will not be going to anyone else besides Dr. Kim. Friendly front desk, staff, and professional yet caring attitude are the sort of health care professionals you want to see.

It has been almost two months since I got my teeth fixed here….and I could not be happier. Happy enough to yelp about them…..its been a long time since I wrote on here! I ended up getting some major work done here….4 CROWNS. My teeth were in need of some serious work from some prior problems and new developing microfractures…sigh…the horrors of bad teeth genetics! Anyways, he fixed me up good! My teeth look better than they ever have, as white as I want them and just SO MUCH STRAIGHTER!!! I even had to come back an extra time because Dr. Kim was not satisfied with the way it looked at first. So he had my crowns remodeled to make it look more natural and no one can tell I have crowns…shoot, I can’t even tell I have crowns. He is a true perfectionist when it comes to making your smile as beautiful as it could be. As if that wasn’t enough…the experience it self was wonderful. 1. Suzanne is the BOMB. She stayed late my first time there to make sure that I was comfortable and to do anything she could to make me feel better. 2. Dr. Kim’s shots…they don’t hurt. How is that possible!?!?!? 3. Dr. Kim called me a week after my procedure was complete to make sure that I was feeling OK and to see if I needed any adjustments on the crowns. 4. Yes, Dr. Kim talks to you when he’s doing his work…but he understands your dentist talk. It’s a good skill for a dentist. 5. They set up a payment plan for me, so that I could afford to get the work done that I needed. 6. They listened to what I wanted and were sensitive to it. My teeth are just naturally a little strange, they veer to the left. So Dr. Kim and his team worked to make it as straight as it was while maintaining the integrity of my teeth. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my smile. The first day I had my crowns, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much. I would totally recommend him and his staff any day. As a patient who dreads but understands the necessity of good dental care, I feel lucky to have found Dr. Kim. I’ve had excellent care including a crown replacement that was virtually pain free. The hygenist, nurse and secretary are part of the previous doctor’s staff and make an excellent team paired with Dr. Kim. Also, since one of my boys is now old enough for the dentist, I feel relieved that Dr. Kim is good with kids and that I don’t have to look for a children’s dentist. As someone who has genetically terrible teeth, I have been to many dentists in my 36 years. I have had some terrible experiences- mostly feeling that awful “zing” of pain mid-drilling (nothing worse than that). Dr. Kim is so gentle and incredibly knowledgeable. He realized very quickly, and before any pain, that my body metabolizes Novocain at a much quicker rate than the average person (if only that was true with pizza and cheeseburgers… sigh). I barely feel the shots of Novocain and he checks in with me regularly to see how I’m feeling. He also is so attuned at reading body language and can tell if I’m feeling uncomfortable at all. He works quickly but he’s very thorough. Additionally, Dr. Kim never “shames” me for the work that needs to be done or makes me feel like I’m not working hard enough to keep my teeth healthy. He was shocked when I mentioned this to him, as if this was something that he assumed all dentists would never do, but I have had my fair share of dental shaming in the past 😉 Suzanne, the dental hygienist is amazing and they make a great team. Karen at the front takes time to explain costs and answers all my questions with a tremendous amount of patience. I am 100% confident in recommending Dr. Kim and his team to anyone who has any kind of trepidation or anxiety about the dentist. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s really easy to chat with and has a great sense of humor. He makes me feel so relaxed and at ease. Finally, during this time of sensitivity to germs and cleanliness among the Covid pandemic, the office takes great measures to ensure everything is clean, sterile and that there isn’t anyone in too close of a proximity during check in or check out. Dr. Kim, if you read this, I just want to thank you for everything you have done for me – I feel so lucky to have found you and am so happy to be one of your patients. You’re the best!

I moved to long beach a year ago for school with some SERIOUS dental needs, and i found Dr. Kim’s office through rave reviews on yelp. These reviews do not even do him and his office justice- everyone is so wonderful, honest, informative, and as a low income patient with no insurance, the honesty and fairnes means that i never have to worry about being oversold or overcharged. The work i have had done is phenomenal from cleanings to fillings to crowns. Every person in this office is amazing!!! The work i have had done is beautiful! I cannot overstate the comfort and relief i have found at Dr. Kim’s office- my dental needs were massive and in this year Dr. Kim’s has turned things around completely, i am beyond impressed.

Dr. Kim is fantastic! No other words to describe him and his staff. I am traditionally not a fan of dentists – me and drills in my mouth don’t get along. I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST – I don’t exactly know anyone in their right mind who loves it. However, since I came across Ocean Heights Dental and had Dr. Kim work on my teeth, I hate it and it scares me A LOT less. I dare say I was actually…EXCITED to go back after my first visit. I made an appointment thanks to all of the amazing Yelp reviews this business has. Like many others, I had not been to the dentist in YEARS. *cough* seven *cough* I’m glad that I chose them after such a long time seeing the dentist, because I can tell that they genuinely care about helping their patients. The staff is all super friendly (Karen the receptionist is the besttt) and Dr. Kim himself is super approachable and does anything in his power to make you feel relaxed. Just his personality makes you feel more at ease. I got a root planing and a crown done on my front tooth. Of course neither were exactly pleasant feeling, but it was the best and least painful experience I have ever had at the dentist. I heard about this haven at a bar in LA when one of my old crowns had fallen out. I figured I had nothing to lose and checked yelp for the reviews and I would strongly agree with all the positive reviews spoken about this business. I actually think these reviews are an understatement to the professionalism related to this place. I first spoke with Karen and she was the most welcoming individual I have ever encountered. Any questions or concerns I may have had was answered to the best and fullest extent. Any paperwork involved was a breeze and my fees were carefully and easily processed. Ben and Nat were my first visit hygienist whom quickly made me feel at home about my cleanings. Not only did they fully clean and restore my teeth after years of avoiding the dentist, they informed me how to keep them that way as well. My teeth were so clean that I wish this was how I brushed my teeth every day. Loved my conversations about food with these two. Suzanne took my full x-rays and assisted in my crowns for my previous visits. This was the first time I had an x-ray without gagging from the instrument that was placed at the very back of my mouth. She took care of me as if I were her own. She even assured and informed me about the types of crowns to choose from and the advantages/disadvantages of each. Dr. Kim, I do not even know where to start. From the first visit, he had joked and talked to me as if I was a friend rather than a patient. I was really skeptical about seeing another dentist because of my past experiences, but when this man picked up a needle he more or less might have had picked up a feather. I’m saying this to convey the image of how painless his procedures are. This man does have the “steady hands and a strong grip” as one of his reviews claimed and if there is anyone reading this is afraid of the dentist, I sincerely advise you to make an appointment. I question to this very moment if this office even knows the word discomfort or pain. His team has the best bedside manners and each and every one of them make me feel more and more like family with each encounter. They will inform you about every detail all the way through and will execute your dental operations with precision and speed. I would say Im one of those with some unfortunate issues when it comes to my teeth. I can’t breath through my nose when I sleep, leaving my mouth open which promotes decay. I also have some bad genetics when it comes to my teeth. I have had a lot of work done by Dr. Kim and his awesome staff. Not only is there work top notch, Dr. Kim is very easy to talk to and I really feel he cares about my dental health and is not just doing the work to get paid. He was worked with me through financial hard times and I have never felt he was unfair to me in any way, quite the opposite actually. As a matter of fact, Dr. Kim has probably lost money on me at times as due to my dental issues causing crowns to crack or filling to pop off, he always stands behind his work and fixes the issues without any problem. I don’t think I have ever waited more than 5 minutes in the waiting room if that. Due to Dr. Kim’s persistence in constantly educating me on better dental habits, I have been able to really turn my dental health around. For me the use of a high power water pick and sonic toothbrush really put my teeth and gums on the right track. As much as it sucks spending so much money on your teeth, in the end, its probably the most important thing you could ever spend your money on. Don’t skimp on your mouth, go see a highly trained and super awesome dentist like Dr. Kim!

Strong grip and a steady hands: qualities that make a great dentist. But, no matter how great the dentist, trips to their office are not supposed to be fun. Maybe I’m weird, but I always have a great time visiting Dr. Kim. I have abnormally strong teeth. Like the iceberg that sank the Titanic, the cute little tips that you see above the gum line belie the monstrosities that lurk below. The roots can sink any ordinarily good dentist. I’ve had my top and bottom pairs of wisdom teeth removed by two different dentists. The guy that removed my bottom pair gave up trying to pull them and resorted to drilling a channel down the middle of them, inserting a bent-screwdriver-like instrument into the channel, and using the the instrument to crack my teeth into more manageable pieces. He then went in with a scalpel and forceps to remove the remaining pieces from my gums. That 2 hour procedure was no kinds of fun. I was laid out for a week on pain-killers, eating nothing but ripe mangoes and ice cream. That guy told me to rest for two weeks and then come back to see him to get the top ones out. Yeah right. I went to see Dr. Kim instead. Dr. Kim went in, gave them a little wiggle, and popped those suckers out. He spent about 5 minutes getting both of my top wisdom teeth out. There was no residual pain from the procedure at all. I had In-N-Out that night. Strong grip and steady hands. I’ve been going to Dr. Kim ever since. Some time later, one of my molars cracked — it was probably chewing on the wreckage of ship or something — and I had Dr. Kim put in a crown for me. A month later, the crown cracked, it turned out there was a defect in manufacturing of the crown. Dr. Kim called up the lab that made it and asked them to replace it free of charge. I could tell that the lab was resistant to the idea until Dr. Kim tightened his grip on the telephone handset in a threatening manner. The lab relented and agreed to send over a new crown for free. Strong grip and steady hands. But, it’s chair-side manner that makes a great dentist truly outstanding. Dr. Kim’s ability to understand what you’re saying when you have a mouth crammed full of suction tubes and dental implements is also nothing less than astounding. My brain knows what it wants to say, but by the time it comes out of my mouth, it sounds like a turkey begging for its life on Thanksgiving. I can’t even understand the sounds coming out of my mouth even though I’m the one saying it. Somehow, Dr. Kim can. During the heights of the Cold War, Dr. Kim must have been the CIA’s secret cryptanalysis weapon, cracking all the best Soviet codes. You have to see it to believe it. Our conversations always take a comic turn. I’m always too busy trying not to laugh to remember that I’m not supposed to be having fun.

I concur with all of the other rave reviews. From the first time I was at his office accompanying my friend who needed an oral injury tended to, I witnessed firsthand the professionalism and vast knowledge of Dr. Kim. After my friend went to Dr. Kim a few times, I realized that I too should start seeing Dr. Kim, as I had two crowns fall off due to the jarring impact of a car accident. As I hadn’t realized that due to the accident that the crowns hadn’t been solid, both teeth had bacteria seep into them and required root canals. Dr. Kim recommended Dr. Polk in Lakewood, and he too could not have been more professional, knowledgable and personable. Dr. Kim is supported by his experienced staff, Suzanne, who is so experienced, she could probably be a dentist in her own right. Karen, the office manager always juggles Dr. Kim’s schedule to ensure that he’ll have time to tend to me and my dental needs. Karen (and everyone), in the office are very friendly, efficient and professional. From trauma to tooth decay, I strongly believe that Dr. Kim can quickly and accurately diagnose and treat any dental circumstance that is presented to him. I have been on yelp.com for years and yet this is the first time that I have been so impressed by anything, that I am so compelled to write such a glowing review.
