Before i even start my review you must know that I am deadly afraid of shots and the dentist. I avoided going to the dentist for almost 4 years. I found this dentist office through my insurance. My first visit was so much better than i expected. I went in because i was having horrible pain from my wisdom tooth. That procedure went painless and faster than i expected. The doctors and nurses made me feel safe and in good hands. Ive been going now for four months fixing all the cavaties as well as doing a deep cleaning. Overall the doctors and nurses are amazing and very welcoming! Ive never trusted a doctor more than Dr. Chen! All my visits have been positive and painless. He does well to explain every procedure as well as explain any treatment plans you may need. As for affordability goes, it doesnt break your bank account So if you are in need of a dentist then come here!

Just switched to this dentist and I love it here. I had my appointment at 4:00 and the dentist saw me immediately, took my x-rays (I didn’t even have to move to a different room to do them) and I got lucky and was able to have my cleaning done as well. Dr. Chen is super kind and puts you at ease and I left feeling like I just had the best dentist appointment ever. The front office was really friendly too. I definitely recommend anyone to make the switch to this dental office!

Went in to get a crown done, got a temp crown and from their front desk associate, to the dental assistant and the dentist, every employee there was helpful, caring, and kind. Mary their front desk associate is great along with Dr. Chen answering any billing/procedure questions I had. They filled me in on insurance detail information, how much I’d be paying vs my insurance coverage and even insisted I ask questions to clear up any confusion. Their whole staff and team is stellar. They assisted with email correspondence to set up the appointment and square away all of my insurance information prior to going in. I’ve never been the biggest fan of seeing a dentist and their office is a bit out of the way for me but I can honestly say the visit was well worth it. Looking forward to getting my crown services finished with Ocean Smiles

I am personally finding myself difficult to write any reviews especially, the business. Because every business has their own satisfaction of the customers and preferences. But I would like to share my reviews if it would help other patients who looking for the top-notch dentist in San Gabriel Valley. Since I was young “The thought of a dental visit usually doesn’t inspire a smile”  — but now it does for me, thanks to the excellent care that I have always received from Dr. Steven Chen. I have always appreciated the clear explanation he gives to my answers about the questions that I have every times I visit ;what needs to be done and alternatives. Last year since October I actually have a full lists that need to take care up until now including the Root canal, crown and filings and decided between two dental offices. Once a decision has been made, the necessary work from Dr. Steven Chen is accomplished skillfully and efficiently. There are even some little things that have given me a positive impression — for example, when the usual injections of anesthesia are required. They are virtually painless, unlike what I have often experienced elsewhere. And very importantly, clearly Dr. Steven Chen does not consider his dental practice to be just a business — he genuinely cares about his patients. The good example set by Dr. Steven Chen is followed by his staff members, too. They all appear to be well-trained to perform their specific tasks; they do their work cordially and make their patients feel welcome and valued. Lastly, Dr. Steven Chen’s office is conveniently located and easily accessible, and there is free parking right behind the office on their premise with welcome gates. If you are trying to decide where to go for your dental care. You would not be disappointed. They also accept all majors insurance. Thank again Dr. Steven Chen and staffs, keep up the good works

Had another awesome checkup at Ocean Smiles recently. Dr Chen and his staff were very accommodating to my schedule and was able to fit me in last minute before I had to go out of town. I still remember the first time I came to see Dr Chen for a toothache. My previous dentist who I had been seeing for 2.5 years before completely missed a large cavity that was causing me discomfort. Dr Chen caught it right away and was able to fix it right then and there. The procedure went flawlessly and I didn’t feel a thing! Not to mention probably saving the tooth from a root canal. Price was also very reasonable. Been a fan of this office ever since. See you guys in 6 months!

Been coming here for years even though there’s new management service has not changed or been compromised they are still very attentive and provide a great service. The patience they have is not found in all dental offices.Highly recommend this place. They cater to patients needs, my mom has a variety of medical conditions and they make sure she’s ok which I like. The remodeling is making this place look great too. They want to be sure that you are happy with the service and I always leave happy

I’m so glad that I found Dr. Chen! He took time to explain everything that I need throughly and provided me the best options and estimated time frame to get them done. Not only that, his staff carefully went over the insurance coverage with me and helped me understand and know where I could save my money. Most importantly…….He has a super soft touch and steady hand. He is so careful and professional, so great with needles/anesthesia, sometimes I didn’t even feel a thing when the needle went in. Best dentist to go to if your pain tolerance is 0 people!

Dr. Steven Chen was kind, knowledgable, and skillful. I have gum recession, and normally cleanings are very painful for me. Dr. Chen made my experience pleasant and pain free! He thoroughly explained to me my condition and what I could do to reduce the sensitivities that have due to the gum recession. He removed all my coffee stains and I left his office feeling great. I’m definitely coming back as a regular patient. I would recommend Dr. Chen to all my friends!

Great Dentist office and Great Dentist!! My kids and I went to this office today for the first time, which am so glad I chose this place. The staff was so professional and they prove that they care for their patients. I loved how the dental assistants and Dr.Chen break down the benefits of your insurance before starting any work and they explain exactly what work the dentist will perform . That made me feel very comfortable. Not like other offices that don’ fill you in on the pricing. Dr.Chen was really cool , he made sure every moment of my procedure if I was o.k and comfortable..my kids and I could say we found our new dental office

I got my 4 wisdom teeth extracted during one appointment visit. It did not hurt at all, he was very gentle and made sure that I was feeling comfortable. Dr. Chen would keep asking if I was okay, and made sure that if I needed more numbing he would put more. All I felt was a little tugging but no pain. I was surprised at how well I felt right after having all 4 wisdom teeth extracted. My mom was even surprised herself because she thought I was going to feel really bad, but the next day I was able to eat what I wanted just smaller bites to not make me bleed. I will definitely be coming back! I loved the pain during the procedure and after!!

I had insurance through work that I needed to use it or lose it so my boy recommended me this place he found thru his coworkers.  Walking in at 630pm Tuesdays and thinking they would ask me to come back another time, but the asian dentist was willing to stay layer just to accommodate me. Super cool right off the bat. But the real reason I rated this 5 stars was he didn’t try to sell me on stuff I don’t need. My last dentist in El Monte found every little thing to upsell me on but this guy was straight up with me. Every freakin dentist always try to make me remove my molars but he didnt pressure me about it when i said no thanks. He went straight to work, explained what hes doing each time and made jokes about how the Lakers better not suck this yr since Kobe is retired. He didn’t rush thru the work since it’s the end of the day.  His assistant kept spraying the water down my throat that made me cough a few times while he was working, but the dentist didn’t get mad, he was chill and told his assistant to be more careful. I forget the dentists name but he did say my gums need more flossing and joked his older patients probably floss more than me. Ain’t gonna lie, I need to floss more tho. I didn’t get charged a copay when I left for the cleaning so that’s another win. I will be back,  but hopefully not anytime soon, since hate visiting the dentist more than anything else

I had a root canal done late 2019 from a different dentist and after looking online, I found Ocean Smiles for crown services. My previous review was for the temporary crown and now after getting the permanent crown done, I know for a fact in the future I’ll be taken care of. Like my first experience, my second experience was very pleasant and done quickly once I arrived. I didn’t know what to expect as this was my first crown and thought I’d be in pain but the experience was painless and done within an hour. Also, I was hesitant of it even getting addressed due to Covid-19 but their office took great PPE precautions to ensure a clean, safe environment while I got my permanent crown put on. Super thankful their team is still available and working during these times and know in the future it’ll be a great experience with Ocean Smiles again. Highly recommended for quality and great customer service

After looking for a dentist for a few years, I came across the web page for Dr. Steve Chen under Ocean Smiles. I decided to give it a try, and I am very happy and pleased with Dr. Chen. He does care for his patients and provides top notch service. His office is super clean, and his staff is friendly and professional at all time. The one thing I was looking for was for a dentist that will do the entire process as I believe that there should be no middle parties when it comes about Dental work as Dental procedures are of a very sensitive nature. Dr. Chen is simply the best I have had so far. If you are looking for a great dentist, Dr. Chen is the one. No need to look any further

Very professional and friendly staff!  Would highly recommend.  I came here when my toothache started and Dr. Chen immediately assessed and remediate the problem right away.  The procedure went flawlessly; very little pain/discomfort , timely and affordable.  They also coached me on dental hygiene and provided financial advice for the work I was having done. Since I started coming here I have had two root canals (it had been years since seeing a dentist before coming here), deep cleaning and a filling, all of which went without any problems. Now I feel that my gums and teeth are significantly healthier than before and I now upkeep good dental habits because of Ocean Smiles

I usually hate going to the dentist. Dr. Chen and his staff make it really easy to forget that you are actually at the dentist. They make you feel welcomed and are very nice to you. They definitely remember you and talk about previous things, actually getting to know their patients and treating them more like family members. Definitely a great environment. Also want to state how caring they are. I state this because they actually saved me a lot of money. My teeth were really messed up since I didnt go to a dentist in like 7 years. Great place to get your teeth done and they definitely look out for you and help you out the best they can. Would recommend this place to anybody!

I would like to share a helpful story about this office. I came in for a (Free) Consult I needed clarification on how many of my teeth needed treating??? My previous Dentist told me that I had 19 cavities? And possible 2 Root canals!!! Which would cost me more then 3 g’s . Wiell after Dr.Chen did his (Free) exam and some x-rays ( which I did have to pay for) I was told that I had 7 cavities and needed a deep cleaning.. ….. Only!!!! I was explained why I was in need of a deep cleaning….I was asked in what sequence I wanted to Treat my oral cavity back too health….I was told how much I would pay with my dental insurance…I was given a couple of options to pay…Staff is very polite and professional ( they all look happen to work there) Maybe because the doctor buys them lunch??? How often ? Enough to have them happy … I saw this on the day I came in…….. Office is so Meticulous!!!

Ocean Smiles Family Dentistry is by far the best dentist office I have been to. From the clean environment to the friendly atmosphere, I feel so relaxed and take care of. Dr. Steven Chen was very nice, understanding and patient with me as someone who was terrified to go to the dentist. The staff have been such a great help in explaining everything very easily and being so friendly. The office hours are great and to make an appointment they can work around a busy schedule. The best dentist in Los Angeles…over this past weekend I experienced my first toothache . Boy did it hurt!! I called Dr. Chen, and told him the problem he prescribed antibiotics. Which so much…I went in this morning f ok r my appointment.  Found out that the pain that I was experiencing was infection in my gums. I had to extract two teeth. I was kind of nervous cuz this is the first time I’ve ever had it to hold out let alone two teeth have to be pulled out. So.Dr. Chen numb my gums with in 6 minutes they were both out!! It did feel better had bleeding. But, it stop within 30 minutes. It’s  now evening time and no pain whatsoever!! Special thanks to Dr. Chen and his amazing staff. Mary who is the secretary and office manager…..thanks a bunch

I began the new year looking into taking care of my oral health. With so many dental facilities out there I had no idea where to go. I found Ocean Smiles online and decided to give them a try, best decision ever. Staff was very welcoming, very flexible with scheduling and really took the time to explain what are the best options for certain procedures. The DDS Steven Chen was very professional. He took the time to assure everything was being done correctly by double and triple checking throughout the procedure. He also has a gentle touch through procedures in which many other dentist I have gone too can really do a number on you. Overall, Ocean Smiles is a great place, friendly staff, affordable, and most importantly, great results

Dr. Chen is a terrific dentist!  I never had serious issues with my teeth until I had a filling done poorly last year.  Sadly, this led me to need a root canal.  The day I started having too much pain to eat anything comfortably, I called Ocean Smiles hoping for a same day and I got it.  Dr. Chen figured out the problem and scheduled me for a root canal the next day.  They were able to maximize my insurance and charge me a very, very reasonable out of pocket amount (my insurance was definitely not great).  The procedure was lengthy but I didn’t feel any pain whatsoever.  Four months later and I’m still happy with the work he did!  The staff is as friendly as it gets and the office is very clean and accommodating.  Top marks all around!

I was referred to Dr Chen because I recently switched dental insurance. Dr Chen himself actually took the time to explain questions I had regarding my veneers and he wasn’t pushy about forcing me to make decisions. Overall he made me feel really comfortable about everything. He also gives me cost options in terms of out of pocket costs which was really helpful. For example my dental covers 80% and copay is 20% but Dr Chen doesn’t even collect copay for common procedures like root canals, deep cleaning, and fillings. He told me he does this to save patients from paying out of pocket so he gets paid thru insurance. Its pretty awesome. All of my past dentists collect copay. (Just to make sure it isn’t a “you pay for what you get” situation, I checked his credentials. He went to NYU College of Dentistry which is rated top 5 in the nation. Safe!) Later on I found out that he reads/speaks fluent Chinese as well so I referred my mom to him because elders tend to feel a little more comfortable asking for things in their native tongue. Elders tend to stick with old dentists but they always have very dated dental technologies or use dated dental practices. Its nice to have my mom go to a younger dentist thats in tune with the latest dental technologies and practices. My mom needed dental implants. Coincidentally his office is right down the street from my moms place so its super convenient and theres plenty of parking. Not hard to find at all. The staff was really nice and super helpful too. Super happy that I found Dr. Chen
