I have been a patient of Dr. Shinto since I was 15, which equates to about 24 years. Once I started with Dr. Shinto, I realized that going to a dentist should not be a painful experience. He makes sure that I am comfortable and pain free throughout the entire procedure. In addition, I have peace of mind in knowing that my procedures are being completed in a sanitary environment with professionals that adhere to procedures that protect my health. I walk away from every visit with confidence that the work performed on my teeth will stand the test of time. Unfortunately, due to a change in my dental insurance, I did try a local dentist for two years. That was a huge mistake! I always appreciated the quality care at Dr. Shinto’s office and that brief departure made me value it even more. Dr. Shinto showed me X-rays of that dentist’s work on my bridge and explained why it needed to be repaired. I appreciate that Dr. Shinto always shows me the X-rays, thoroughly explaining the cause, treatment options of the problem, and preventive measures for future teeth. Last but not least, Dr. Shinto’s staff is warm and welcoming. They have always done their best to accommodate my schedule to get me a suitable appointment time

Dr. Shinto is kind, professional, positive, and a great communicator. I didn’t have access to dental care when I was young and have lots of funky dental things to fix as a result. Dr. Shinto helped me make a plan for getting my teeth ship shape and now I’m over the moon at how great my smile looks! I recommend him to everyone. His staff, from the front desk to the assistants and hygienists, are all just as kind and caring as Dr. Shinto too!

I’ve been going to Drs. Funatsu and Shinto now for about 25 years. They are the most caring, understanding and gentle dentists I’ve ever met. The hygienists are all wonderful as well. And I can’t say enough of the ladies in the front office. They treat you as if you were a member of their family! Wholeheartedly recommend them!

I recommend Dr. Shinto. The dental hygienist does a great job with cleaning my teeth each time that I have gone back. I am currently wearing braces and they are accommodating with cleaning my teeth thoroughly. They are also thorough with their examination. They ask my medical history and even took my blood pressure before looking into my mouth. If there was any work that needed to be done Dr. Shinto and staff explain what type of work are needed to be completed and why. The digital pictures that the staff and the doctor shows are helpful to understand what will be accomplished. The assistant who took my x-rays was gentle, quick and efficient. The front office staff are welcoming and friendly. They work with my schedule to get the best time for me to come in at my convenience. They open early in the morning at 7:40 am so that I can get to work on time. 🙂 Billing people work with my insurances that I acquire through my job. My work changes insurance every so often and some how the billing people are able to get the information they need so that I pay the minimum and my insurance pays most of my visits. What’s great about Dr. Shinto’s office is that they have friendly reminders a week or two prior to my appointment. Then they have a text reminder a two days prior to my appointment. I have had the best dental experience in this office for the past 16 years

This is hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. The staff is warm and personable. The place is state of the art. They were showing me my teeth with a tiny hd camera on a big screen tv. Amazing. The real reason this was a great experience was Dr. Shinto himself. He took a lot of time to sit with me and talk about my dental history (I’ve had some bad experiences). It was like a calming dental therapy session. About a week after my visit I received a personal letter from Dr. Shinto thanking me for choosing them. This was no generic letter. It was hand written and filled with things we talked about including the fact that I found him on yelp. This really is a five star practice in every way possible

I’ve been a patient for 10+ years and can tell you that Dr. Shinto and his staff are great. The office side of things is very organized, and the dental care is top-notch. Dr. Shinto always explains procedures clearly and lets you know what needs to be done soon and what can wait a bit. A few years ago I had metal braces and Dr. Shinto’s office worked with my ortho to coordinate cleanings–very helpful. Also, your appointment WILL start on time, so don’t be late!

Let me start off by saying. I absolutely hate going to the dentist! But Dr Shinto’s expertise and very calming dimeaner. Make you feel like you are in good hands and there is nothing to worry about. He explains the procedures he is going to perform in detail. His staff also has these great qualities. His office is also up to date with all the latest and greatest in dentistry technology, like digital x-rays and the new Cerec machine which he can use to makes crowns in just 1 day . Thank you Dr Shinto and staff. I can now smile without worrying about how I look

11/5/19 Update: Still an amazing! I’ve been coming to see Dr. Shinto for a few years now. He and his staff are nothing short of amazing. When I walk in, I’m always get greeted with a warm smile. Leslie and Armi are always super friendly. During checkups, Dr. Shinto will let me know what he’s doing. When I ask any questions, he’ll take the time to address them. My hygienist, Tamae is awesome. She’s gentle yet thorough and she’s very caring…always making sure I’m comfortable during the cleaning. I don’t feel like just a patient when I come here. People remember you by name and they remember little details about you, details that aren’t in your medical history. On top of all that, the quality of work is pretty impressive too

Dr. Shinto has been my dentist for over 20 years. I wish I could say i’ve Only needed to have my teeth cleaned, but my dental habits haven’t always been the best. So I’ve had my share of cavities, crowns and now even an implant (provided by a periodontist, and which is being crowned by Dr Shinto). Dr. Shinto is capable and gentle, and the other professionals in his practice are also very good at what they do. That includes the team at the front desk

I have never been more pleased with a dentist! I have been a patient for over 10 years. Dr. Shinto and staff are wonderful. I’m not a big fan of going to the dentist, but they are so friendly and professional that it makes it a great experience. Dr. Shinto’s work is excellent in every way. He talks you through the entire process. He recently completed a CROWN on a broken tooth and the result was wonderful. No more pain! He attends to every detail and the final product is a wonderful blend of ART and CRAFTSMANSHIP. I definitely recommend Dr. Shinto

I really should have written this review months ago..so I apologize for the tardiness. I needed to get a checkup, but I’ve had horrible experiences w/ dentists..(haven’t we all?) so naturally..I was scared and kept putting it off. I turned to fb to ask my friends for referrals but no one seemed to LOVE their dentists, and I just couldn’t be convinced by any of theirs. I then searched on yelp, and found Dr. Shinto. I was shakin’ in my boots, but finally made an appt. Sherry called me back right away to get more info from me and confirm my appt. Felt pretty easy..The day came when I had to face my fears. I found parking by the Salvation Army, and walked in……Leslie greeted me. So friendly, she seemed happy to be working there! x-rays: quick and painless (I forget her name..but she was super nice) Dr. Shinto came in shortly after.. calm professional totally put me at ease asked abt my previous experiences reassured me that I was in good hands polite, friendly He gave me a thorough checkup, and informed me about our plan of action. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so relaxed in a dentist chair..nope..never. I came back for cleanings (they broke it up in 4 quadrants) and all the dental hygienists were sooo incredible nice and paid attention to every detail. Asked me if I was ok, comfortable, told me to let them know if I needed anything, said I should bring in music and headphones if I wanted, etc. My favorite was Racine (sp?)..she was uber friendly and sweet. Bonus point for giving me a pain-free lidacaine shot. The girls at the front desk are also great..they always seem so happy to see their patients. I definitely appreciate that–most people who I encounter behind the counter (ha) are usually pretty unfriendly..so it’s a nice change. I saw Dr. Shinto twice, and he was great..just as I had hope he would be after the first meeting. I received a ‘thank you’ letter from him–handwritten a few wks after my first visit. Thanking me for trusting him, and for my business. Who does that nowadays? No one. Every visit I’ve had with him has been awesome..he seriously does wonders when he gives you the shot–because I couldn’t feel ANYTHING. Mind you, I have a high pain threshold, but not when it comes to dentists. I was bracing myself for the worst, and next thing I knew…I was numb. I even asked him if he used a needle. O.O Anyway, I am now a believer, and I enjoy going to the dentist. My next appointment is next year..but I’ve referred some friends over so I’m thinking of stopping by just to say hi. Yep. That’s how much I love everyone at that office!

It was the best dental experience I have had in 75 years, and it begins with a positive office atmosphere and continues throughout the appointment. Anthony, who took care of the xrays and record keeping for Dr. Shinto, was personable and kept me informed at each step of the process. Dr. Shinto gave me the more thorough and informative oral exam I have ever received. For someone who has long been uncomfortable going to the dentist, this was an entirely new and positive experience. Many thanks to all

Paul Shinto is the finest dentist around anywhere. He is meticulous, knowledgeable and gentle. The back office staff is also fantastic. They are efficient, courteous and keep everything running smoothly. The office is clean and is state of the art. If I had changed to Paul earlier than I did, I know my teeth would be perfect. I could have avoided a lot of treatments and procedures caused by imperfection of my prior dentist. I’ve spent the past 10 years redoing everything that my last dentist did! Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be loyal to a healthcare professional. Thanks Paul

Dr. Shinto is the best! Very caring, a great listener, kind, and compassionate. His staff is great also. All very kind, friendly, and helpful. He is the best dentist I’ve ever been to and I hate going to the dentist! I also had a root canal by Dr. Jann (the endodontist in the office) and never felt a thing. I can’t say enough about this office, especially for dental phobics

The staff here is always professional, attentive and friendly. Every time I come in for a hygiene or dentist appointment I’m greeted with a smile! I’ve been coming here for over 30years, through an office move, retirements, and practice changes. There was once a change in my dental coverage at work, and had to go to another dentist. After my first appointment, I was disappointed and came running back here for my future appointments even though I had to pay more out of pocket. They are so worth it! I would highly recommend them!

This office is the best I’ve ever been to. Very clean, cutting edge technology, and everyone is so nice. Dr. Shinto is the best. Very gentle and soft spoken and always seems to remember what we talked about 6 months ago!. I’ve seen all the hygienists and they are all great. From the moment I walk in until the moment I leave I feel welcomed and very well taken care of unlike some of my other doctors’ offices where they barely look up to acknowledge you. They are truly a gem of an office. Thank you Dr. Shinto and staff!

Virus protection and protocol were strictly followed by all dental personnel as well as patients. This really eased my concerns. The appointment was timely, I was asked if I had any issues or concerns, the procedures were comfortable, there were two potential problems that were found. Both issues were explained, options were explained and a plan was developed to address them. I love this dental office and have been coming here since 1994. No complaints. Their referrals to specialist have proven to be top notch

I have been going to Dr Shinto’s office for about five years. I have received the best care, and feel very safe each time I return for an appointment. I have regular cleaning visits performed, a crown on a molar, as well as being fitted for and purchasing a night guard. All which can be pretty stressful for me. The office is calm, organized, fun, professional and I’m confident that I am receiving the highest care possible. Also, I am just about finished with the Invisalign teeth alignment trays. Dr. Low has been wonderful throughout this process. Especially during Covid home quarantine. I’m really happy with the results and glad that I decided to do it

Dr. Shinto and his staff are very friendly, professional, and thorough. My bf and I came here after we had not been to a dentist for several years. I’ve gotten several fillings as well as a root canal here (Dr. Jann who is here on Saturdays handles those and he’s awesome too). They were very sympathetic when I realized that I had been traumatized by my last visit to the dentist to take out my wisdom teeth (no general anesthesia) and took things slowly and gently until I could handle my emotions better

I am a very loyal customer/patient. I have only had to dentists in my lifetime, but my previous dentist retired and I wanted to find one close to home in Pasadena. I was referred to Dr. Shinto by a very good friend. it took me a while before I finally made contact, but wow I am very impressed by his evaluation process. He dictated to his assistant his evaluation of every tooth in my mouth and even took photos that he showed me on their TV screen. He is also very kind and friendly as is his staff who were all very accommodating. The only downside is that he is so popular there is a wait for appointments. I am told for my next follow-up appointment someone will call me if there is a cancellation so I can be seen sooner. Will see

I recommend Dr. Paul Shinto to everyone I know!!! Oh yes I do!!! I used to hate going to the dentist! I hated the taste of the fluoride, the cleaning, the flossing, the noises, and the x-rays! If it wasn’t for Dr. Shinto and his team for being so considerate, friendly, and accommodating, I would probably have dentures or Pensatucky-esque teeth (Orange is the New Black reference) at 23! Not cute! From the help of him and his team, I now feel so comfortable and look forward to going to the Dentist! It sounds cheesy, but it is true! It also helps that him and his staff laugh at my terrible jokes 🙂 I remember the last time I went, the office was a bit chilly, but probably because I was wearing a dress…Anyways, the hygienist disappeared and came back with a blanket to cover my legs! So sweet! Shortly thereafter, I fell asleep and woke up with clean teeth! I’m telling you, this place is great! It is clean, has great amenities, and staff to make you feel comfortable and provide the best dental experience! So, if you are currently looking for a dentist, I highly suggest you try Dr. Shinto. You won’t regret it!

I found Dr. Shinto’s office through Yelp (thank you fellow yelpers!). I originally tried to make an appointment with Dr. Shinto but his schedule was so booked that I decided to try Dr. Edwards and I am so happy I did. His exam was so thorough, his explanations, very clear and he was so conscientious with everything he was doing. I never felt like he was rushing to try to see another patient. They have all the latest equipment and he was very good at explaining everything he was doing. The cleaning I had done was also very thorough and not rushed like at my previous dentist (one of the reasons why I left). The office was very clean and the office staff seemed to be extremely competent, professional and organized. My husband is now also going to Dr. Edwards and he’s a difficult one to please but he agrees, Dr. Edwards, along with the whole staff, are awesome! So happy that our whole family now has a great dentist

I want to start off by saying that I have never posted a review before but I do read them all the time – for everything: food, mechanic, water parks, theatres…the list goes on. So, I think it’s only fair that I write a review about an experience I feel strongly about. I had read the reviews about Dr. Shinto’s office on Yelp and although they don’t have a lot of reviews the feedback they received all had 5 stars. And I truly understand why. To begin, I have great dental coverage (PPO with a great $ coverage) and for the most part have good teeth (never had a cavity) but I dread going to the dentist because it was always one giant shake down. After trying out nearly half a dozen dentists (which isn’t easy considering your insurance only covers a set of x-rays per year), each and every visit with these various dentists I was presented with an inventory of all the dental work that I HAD to get done- making me feel like I had Shrek teeth. From my perspective, I always felt like they were squeezing my insurance for every penny they could get. With Dr. Paul Shinto and his staff I had the complete opposite experience. From the front support team, x-ray person, dental hygienist, to Dr. Shinto himself – everyone was very personable, nice but more importantly very, very genuine. It is a reflection of Dr. Shinto’s management style and leadership in selecting a team that will reflect his business approach. Not to mention, he spent a considerable amount of time reviewing my x-rays, identifying aging teeth concerns, and talking with me. But what I appreciated most was that he used conversational words to help explain a dental process instead of using dental tech talk- it’s the simple difference of communicating with someone vs. being talked to. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Shinto and his office to my friends and families. As a frequent Yelp reviewer, you weed out the good and the bad reviews to give you an overall indication. I think you will find that your experience is like the other reviews you find on Dr. Paul Shinto and his team

I have been a patient here for 8 years and have always had a great experience. I feel his outstanding work deserves some well deserved appreciation and recognition. Dr. Shinto does great work that he stands behind 100%. He is kind, funny, compassionate, interested in my concerns and conservative with treatment. I feel he always has my best interest at heart and never makes me feel rushed. He always answers any questions I have and makes sure I understand what’s involved in my treatment. An added perk is that his injections are basically painless! The staff is awesome and always helps work with my schedule. They call if they can get me in sooner. A very personal experience. Love this office and recommend them on the regular!

I was referred by Dr Charles a periodontist in Pasadena to Dr Shinto. I need to see a regular dentist . I called the office and schedule an appointment. Sherry was the one who help me with my appointment. In addition she was very nice and helpful in explaining the things I need to fill out as a new patient before my appointment. On my appointment day, the front office people were very nice and helpful. And lastly Dr Shinto and both Nurses were so nice during my treatment and consultation. I have so many good compliments for Dr Shinto and his staff. I would highly recommend Dr Shinto to my friends and family 🙂

I have been going to this practice for 25+ years . The difference in care I have received from this dentist compared to other dentists is truly remarkable. They give you a THOROUGH checkup when you first become a patient, and they always do a professional job no matter what the procedure. The staff is very friendly and courteous. It’s shocking how many health professionals have rude and curt people at the front office, but this is never the issue here. My entire family uses this office for all their dental needs. I have recommended their services to others, and have received a personal thank you note from Dr. Shinto for doing so

Dr. Shinto and his staff are hands down the most professional, nice and accommodating anywhere. Let me tell you, getting cavities filled is definitely not my favorite thing, in fact my most feared procedure! Had bad experiences with previous dentist hitting nerves! Close to child birth, yes 🙂 I just had 3 cavities filled last week by Dr. Shinto, going in nervous, they were super accommodating, the hygienist gave me a blanket, Dr. Shinto came in right away. I have never had to wait to be seen or for them to get started… Love that! Anyways not kidding here, I fell asleep!!!!! Can’t believe it. Took in my ear phones turned on music and was out! Noooo pain what so ever, the next thing I know I was finished!!! Yay! I think he has cured my anxiety about dentists! I highly recommend this office and Dr. Shinto, he is truly excellent at his craft!

I’ve been coming here to see Dr. Funatsu mostly but have seen Dr. Shinto on occasion–it has always been a good process. They are experienced, competent, honest and thorough. Their hygienists and front desk folks are friendly, cheerful and fun. It must be a good place to work because everybody seems up all the time. I presume they haven’t been sniffing the laughing gas. I’ve had a couple of root canals with Dr. Jann, the resident endodontist that went very smoothly. In short, if you need any dental stuff done, these are the gentlest, most down-to-earth people you could wish to meet
