Wow! I had such a positive experience at Austin Family Dentistry. Jade, at the front desk, was super helpful and answered all my questions. She made me feel welcome. Their online website for new patients made it easy to fill out forms before I got there and really streamlined the process. Robinson did my cleaning and he was not only super friendly, but did a great job at explaining everything to me and making me feel comfortable. The dentist can be nerve-wracking for some people, like myself, so I appreciate the high-touch experience. Dr. Smitherman really listened to all of my concerns and addressed next steps. I’ve been to other dentists where it seems like they’re trying to nickel and dime you and I felt like she genuinely cared about my dental hygiene and provided me with all of my options as opposed to forcing her opinions on me. I’m really impressed by this whole experience and will definitely recommend friends here in the future.

I am by nature a very pensive and private person. Somehow they managed to make me feel so understood, comfortable and at home, I was voluntarily chatting with folks. Truly amazing. I received long overdue dental care with encouragement and comfort. Every team member was warm and considerate. I am in awe of the customer service and care provided to me. Nice renovations too. Dr. Smitherman and her staff were excellent with my daughter. She is 8 and has very high anxiety and a diagnosed intellectual disability: she is a challenging kid who requires tons of patience. Dr. Smitherman met her right where she was comfortable and went one baby step at a time to get an exam and cleaning partially done. We didn’t complete the cleaning, instead agreeing to end the visit on a high note and come back quarterly. I was impressed with how she demonstrated and explained everything slowly and checked for understanding before moving forward. I would definitely recommend Dr. Smitherman for adults, children, and children with special needs.

I’ve been coming to this practice biannually for cleanings since 2017. They are absolutely wonderful here. The office itself is so nice and accommodating for anyone with anxiety about the dentist. Theyd provide noise canceling earphones to listen in on the TV screens– these have been helpful if you really hate the high-pitched zinging from instruments they use. My mouth looks brand new when I’m all done and I always look forward to coming back knowing I’ll feel refreshed immediately after one visit. My initial visit was surprising compared to those I’ve had in the past with other dentists. Dr. Smitherman informed me of any potential issues indicative from my mouth such as a sleep apnea. I was advised about bringing this to my doctor’s attention which luckily turned out to be a nonissue following a simple sleep study. I had otherwise recommended this office to a coworker who, because of Dr. Smitherman, was able to determine problems with the quality of her sleep. Dr. Smitherman also took notice to the anatomy of her mouth which astonishingly explained why she was never in her life able to roll the r’s in her native language. I went in today for my cleaning but made plans ahead of time for whitening at the office as an early birthday present to myself. I was hesitant because of issues related to sensitivity but staff were confident and assured me there would be none. The sensitivity was a problem I had with in-home strips and the reason I could never finish them out despite getting those specifically for sensitive teeth. I underwent the profesional whitening and had ZERO discomfort! The worst part of the procedure itself was keeping the tray still between a closed jaw or spitting out the gel which is a bit gooey. I was even sent home with a kit to maintain my bright smile. I cannot recommend this practice enough!

The best dental experience I have ever had. They treated my 2 year old daughter with great care while my husband and I were been examined and had our dental cleaning done. My toddler also had a dental exam and had a great experience. They all work as a team to get things done in a timely and professional manner. I don’t usually write reviews and actually I had the appointment about 2 weeks ago. Just now, I was able to make the time to share my experience at this excellent dental office. I highly recommend this dental office, everyone is very professional and friendly.

I just moved to Austin and don’t have a dentist here yet. I ran into major tooth pain over the holiday weekend and wasn’t sure I’d find anyone to see me. They were able to fit me in 2 hours after I called and were able to get me a root canal same day. Everyone in the office is super nice and accommodating, they’ll put on whatever music you want and put a movie on the ceiling tv to keep you occupied. They’re super concerned with your comfort and try to take really good care of you. So glad I came here for my dental emergency, I’ve found my new dentist in Austin.

This was my 1st visit here and I am so far super satisfied. I enjoyed the vibe I got from the moment I walked in. Personnel in the front was so friendly. I have to say I was a little hesitant to stay here since it took over a previous practice that I was familiar with and trusted. However, Dr Smitherman and her office were very professional and kind and made the transition easier than I’ve ever had previously. The front office quickly helped me with payment questions (no insurance) and set me and my husband up with an appt right away. The technicians were friendly and well versed in their profession. I’m one of those people who avoid going to the dentist at almost any cost. Well, I needed help and decided to get it. I got a flyer from Dr. Smitherman and decided to fight through my dental anxiety and go see her. Man, am I glad I did. Not only is she an amazing dentist, she has an AMAZING staff. I need a fair amount of work done and I was worried that I may start but abandon treatment out of nerves. I don’t think I’m going to have a problem completing my treatment plan with Dr. Smitherman. They’re awesome. I couldn’t have found a better dentist for me in Austin.

I’ve been going here for a while, after a recommendation. I fear (badly) the dentist, but Dr. Smitherman and the staff are always very understanding. The hygienists have all been gentle and give me options when working on my teeth. I am now doing Invisalign and go back frequently. I never have to wait past my appt time. With the location changes after their fire, and everything they have been dealing with, they still are very easy to go see. The staff and Dr have great attitudes every time and make my visits much easier.

I’ve been to a few dentists in Austin, and Dr. Ashley Smitherman has become my favorite by far. She inspires confidence and calm in the most nervous patients. I went in to have my wisdom teeth removed and was naturally a little anxious, but as soon as I started talking to Dr. Ashley I knew I had nothing to worry about. Unfortunately by the time our next appointment came around they had moved due to a devastating fire to their office. Though this has made their once very convenient location not so close, now located in Pflugerville, we will make the trek because we have found a quality dentist we like. The best experience I’ve had at a dentist office. I arrived an hour early for my appointment because I had so much to get done that day. They got me in immediately. The hygienist was AMAZING. So funny, nice, and gentle with my teeth. Dr. Smitherman was thorough and quick with her exam, and I was out and about within an hour to finish running errands for the rest of the day. She started as a second opinion for me regarding 4 crowns another dentist said I needed (which I don’t), and she is now the only dentist I’ll go to.

I had been searching for a pediatric dentist for my daughter for awhile when I came across Austin Family Dentistry. I am elated that I found this practice. After some conversation, we started my daughter on the Healthy Start program. She was having trouble sleeping the rough the night and breathing through her nose. I was skeptical at first that a retainer at night would work for a young child. I was wrong. A couple weeks after starting her on Healthy Start, I saw an amazing change. She was sleeping through the night more easily. Now she asks for her retainer when going to bed at night. And following Healthy Start will minimize the need for braces down the road? Even better!

But this was probably the most pleasant experience I’ve had at a dentist, and it’s all down to the way they all do their jobs. From the moment I walked through the door everyone was welcoming, pleasant, and friendly. The cleaning was quick, thorough, and painless. The consult with Dr Smitherman at the end seemed more than just perfunctory, and she gave useful and informative advice. Why is it so hard for other doctors and dentists to get this right? Not really sure. But if you’re looking for a great dentist give these folks a shot. They’re doing good work.
