Dr. Broom is not only the best dentist I have been to but also the most wonderful person. I have really(!) bad teeth, i.e. filled cavities, root canals, extractions etc. and have been to many dentists in my life (in the US and in Europe) – but none so good and conscientious as Dr. Broom. Even in the height of the corona scare, he saw me and spent over an hour reconstructing a decayed front tooth (the filling had fallen out), creating a perfect look – better than ever before! If you are looking for a dentist once the corona thing is over, you will get the best if you see Dr. Broom.

Best of the best! An excellent dentist and true humanitarian. Dr. Broom has been my dentist for over 20 years and he has always put concern for patient health above all. He is so kind and gentle, but not judgmental, that he dispels any fear you have of going to the dentist. He always works with you and your circumstances and offers different options for treatments. I’ve been through ups and downs in that time, and what really counts is at the times when I was the most broke and desperately needed dental care, Dr. Broom has gone far above and beyond to provide the care I needed or interceded to get me the help I needed. He is willing to work out a payment plan for whatever you can afford. He truly cares, first and foremost, that his patients don’t suffer and receive the dental care they need, and getting paid is something that can be worked out. He provides thorough, comprehensive, stellar care and exemplifies genuine compassion and service to others.

Moving to a new country has its challenges, one of them is to find a dentist you like and trust. I had to do some “dentist hopping” in Seattle before I finally landed on Dr Broom. I walked away from my first appointment with a skip in my step. If you want a dentist with integrity, Dr Broom is your man. Believe all the reviews. My only wish is that I had found him sooner!

The Anderson, S.C. Jockey Lot is the largest flea market in the South. In the late nineteen-seventies, a dentist named Dr. Wagner set up a fully equipped AirStream trailer there and opened for business. He posted his prices outside the door: fillings for $16, extractions for $8. Since most of his clients were low-income people like my dad, Dr. Wagner got a lot of 8-dollar business. A fat man with large forearms that made me afraid of him when I was little, he had been a dentist in the Army. Army dentists are officers, their patients enlisted personnel, mainly. The power disparity doesn’t force the cultivation of chair-side manor and Dr. Wagner had none. My aversion to dentists began there and endures until now. Because Dr. Wagner was also an unskilled practitioner, my identification of slipshod dental work as a class marker begins with him as well. In the same cursory fashion with which a woman appraises a man’s cuticles and shoes to infer the extent to which he takes care of himself, I register a person’s teeth. If his dental work looks as if it were performed by a renegade veterinarian, I conclude he’s one of me. This colors my interactions with professionals of my class-origin too. In 2005, when I met my divorce lawyer, she pulled up in a red Corvette and got out and smiled brightly to reveal a thin pewter-colored line above her front choppers. I liked her instantly. But I ramble, so I’ll get to the business of reviewing Dr. Broom, whom I selected from the Yelp directory because he shares a name with my mother’s fifth husband and because he’s received fulsomely positive reviews. The praise is warranted. In fact, Dr. Broom has so completely earned his shimmering reputation that I’ve frankly lingered a while over how to set out most effectively and creatively the collection of merits that make him that rarest of creatures: a dentist that I don’t dread to see. The approach I’ve settled on involves contrasting him, point by point, with his predecessor, the anti-hero who removed the tooth I asked Dr. Broom to bridge. I’ll call that feckless imposter Dr. Litter. Since he serves little purpose in his calling, I flatter myself that I do dual justice by appointing him the dark screen on which to project the simple virtues of his abler colleague. (This time last year, I’d have written Dr. Litter a one-star review and included his wife’s social security number in it. The scattering years that have gilded my head in silver have softened my heart a little too, I guess.) When I told Dr. Litter I had a loose lower incisor, that sour, dyspeptic little grimacer began mumbling about treatment plans and ordered up a whole mouthful of X-Rays. That’s a shady run on a patient’s insurance, this pissing away of coverage dollars on things not immediately necessary. Dr. Broom took a single X-Ray of a single tooth and asked permission before doing so. He mentioned a treatment plan, but carefully avoided the hard sell. He treated the work he was doing for me as an audition. So I am happy to discuss treatment plans with him all the live-long day. He also excels at pain management. A dentist always deadens the area around an extraction, of course, but if the tooth is a lower incisor, the dentist will optionally administer shots to the mandibular formen. These are extremely painful and often quite unnecessary. Dr. Litter, channeling Dexter, administered these shots as a matter of course, then began yanking on the tooth before it was deadened. When I informed him that he was causing me agony, he seemed exasperated to find he was performing work on an actual, live human being. Stupid quack. Dr. Broom administers these shots only if the local, less painful shot proves insufficient. In fact, I must really emphasize that at every stage of my treatment, Dr. Broom was solicitous of my comfort. He has the compassion and decency of a man who may not be terribly crazy about dentists himself. Last of all, there’s the inchoate dimension of basic likability. To a greater extent than any other health professionals, dentists are sanctimonious tut-tutters. They treat cavities as moral shortcomings. They really do. Dr. Litter thought bad teeth indicative of sin and considered deep cleanings to be a combined form both of ritual cleansing and fleshly mortification. I suspect that, as a boy, getting his teeth cleaned was a sort of hobby for him. Whether or not that’s true, he certainly seemed baffled that anyone would approach getting a deep cleaning with less enthusiasm than he brought to getting paid for it. Sick fucker. His virtuous doppelganger Dr. Broom? None of that with him. He is pleasant, down to earth, normal. When I told him I was trying to decide between a dental implant and a bridge, he told me in the most charmingly offhand manner: “Yeah, I had to make that decision too. I chose a partial.” And he removed it from his mouth and showed it to me. I liked him instantly too.

This is the best dental clinic I have been to in this country. I tried a lot of “fancier” clinics after moving away from the u district. However, none of the doctors nor their assistant are as professional and thoughtful as them. After much debate I went back to them again even that I have to drive a long way now. I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate them.

All doctors/lawyers/professionals should be like Dr. Broom. We’ve been going to him for close to 10 years and never have we ever felt like he was trying to become rich off of us! He actually was an accountant but went back to dental school because he wanted to be able to spend more time with his family (not because he wanted to make more $$$). He is conservative when it comes to X-rays and procedures and will only do them if necessary. As a cash patient, I really appreciate this type of thinking since I pay for 100% of my care. When I first went in, I had a really shallow cavity forming and instead of filling it, he recommended I rinse every night with ACT. So I bought some at the drugstore and now 10 years later, the tooth is still fine! Dr. Broom is friendly, genuine, VERY affordable, and a great dentist. It’s always a pleasure to see him, and now my 3 year old daughter is a patient as well!

Professional, Personable and Effective Dental Care If you are a patient of Dr. Broom then you know he is a great dentist and his staff is top notch. What is impressive about him is he really, really cares about his patients. He spends a lot of time working with you so you understand your treatment options, the procedures and after visit care. My wife and I have had crowns, fillings and cleanings from Dr. Broom and every procedure was perfect the first time. We have been consistently impressed with his skill and treatment plans. The rest of the staff are fantastic, friendly and professional. The one thing you to need to understand and plan for is that your appointment will probably not start on time. The reason is that Dr. Broom spends as much time as necessary working with his patients explaining treatments and post treatment care. So don’t try to ‘squeeze’ in an appointment and you will be happy.

After having an older porcelain crown crumble on me, I was shocked at what dentists around town were quoting me to have it replaced. Even then, no one would say for sure exactly how much they would charge prior to a visit. When I got Dr. Broom’s office on the phone, they were very straightforward and down-to-earth and had no problem telling me how much they would charge me. Their initial quote was about 40% lower than the average of the ten other offices I had contacted previously. The office is clean. The staff is personable and friendly. Dr. Broom is a great conversationalist. It’s the first time I have ever walked away from a dentist visit feeling that I had not only been dealt with fairly, but had been treated like a human being instead of a time slot. What’s more, Dr. Broom actually ended up changing me less than what he had initially quoted me over the phone. That doesn’t happen! As long as these lovely folks are in business, I am so pleased to count myself as one of their patients. Well done, sir! And thanks to your excellent team!

Decided on Dr. Broom because of the reviews on Yelp. I must say that I’ve been nothing short of amazed at how easy and painless my visits have been to Dr. Broom. I hadn’t been to the dentist in 12 years and when I went to Dr. Broom it was a matter of him just showing my cavities and worked out a schedule to get them filled. He never scolded me about not going to the dentist, he also doesn’t beat the floss everyday drum. He actually said any flossing is better than no flossing so don’t worry if you don’t do it every day. I’m usually in and out in about an hour when I had to get a filling and 30 min when I got my teeth cleaned. Ida the hygienist is super quick and painless and their billing person is crazy nice. I like the fact that it’s in an old apartment also, very cozy. 1000X recommendation for Dr. Broom. I have Delta Dental and they take that for what it’s worth. And he’s kind of dreamy also 😀

I am glad I found this dentist on yelp.  I went in for putting a crown on one of the back teeth and he  did a great job. He educated me through the whole process.  He was very reasonable in his prices and his office folks were super engaging.   Great dentist and I switched to his office after that visit.   Other dentist I went to  always charged a lot and I was glad I found Dr.Broom.

Here is a dentist who is a real human being. You can tell he is just as genuine inside as outside the office. When he pulls out the sharp, pointy, vibrating, terrifying instruments…he doesn’t turn into a zombie. Just the same guy who doesn’t mind answering the phone, not to mention all your pesky questions, treats his assistant well, tells you how to take care of your teeth without implying you don’t already know how, squeezes you in for emergencies and then refers you to a great endodontist for a root canal, and really doesn’t see the point in doing x-rays every single time you visit. Of course, not all human beings are great dentists. But Dr. Broom is.

I had had the same dentist my entire life, but I had to find a new one this year when I switched insurance… I’m so glad I found Dr.Broom! I hadn’t been to a dentist in a while, and I’m not the biggest flossing fan but I didn’t get a lecture or a scolding. Dr.Broom just explained why some other dentist might scold me. Everyone in the office is really nice and friendly and they had me in and out fairly quickly while doing a thorough cleaning job and x-rays. Dr.Broom was not quick to suggest expensive or invasive procedures, instead laying out all options honestly. I will definitely be sticking with him.

Dr Broom is one of the best dentists I’ve been to… He is effective and sensitive! I highly recommend Dr Broom. His office is conveniently located on the ave, his office manager is wonderful and extremely helpful. The whole team really takes care of you. He will never scold you for not flossing. He does everything he can to make your pain go away. They handle the billing well too. Unlike many dentists, even if you aren’t a regular customer or on your first visits, they charge your bill directly to your insurance company. I was in a lot of pain for 3 weeks. I went to another dentist who was close to my work place. He couldn’t find a solution to my problem. Finally I went to Dr. Broom and not only did he immediately pin point the problem but he also gave me medicines that were extremely effective. My pain went away the next day!!!! Thanks Dr Broom!!!!

Dr. Broom is a fantastic dentist and I highly recommend him!  He answered every single question I had and did a great job fixing a tooth that was starting to cause me pain.  The procedure was quick and he made sure to keep pain to a minimum.  I used to be afraid of going to the dentist after a bad experience I had in the past, but no more.  Anyone needing dental attention should visit Dr. Broom!!!

I chose Dr Broom based on his Yelp reviews. I was very impressed. He was very professional, gentle and to the point. He did not try to sell me anything. In fact he referred me to a dental surgeon for tooth extraction when he could have done it himself. Most importantly, his work is very good. I had many of my teeth filled over 3 sittings. He was very immaculate in his work. Despite me being the last patient for the day, he took the time to polish off his work so that I don’t have to come back for touch ups. Nearly totally painless. I would recommend his to anyone any day.

Dr. Broom was more personable than any dentist I’ve been to, it was a great experience. I’m on GAIP insurance and his office works it out so they bill the insurance directly, no fuss, which was the best part. He was a little bit harder on my teeth that I liked at first (I have sensitive teeth) but was gentle when I told him, and recommended an OTC fluoride mouthwash that has really helped my sensitivity (and he told me not to use as much as they say, and it’s totally true!).

Dr. Broom is awesome– I started going to see him after reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews here, and  they were all totally warranted. He’s a really nice guy, was super patient when I was anxious about getting a filling after a really bad experience I had had with a previous dentist, and he doesn’t give you the hard sell on stuff. He suggested I should check into getting a mouthguard to help me with grinding, but he suggested I try one of the over-the-counter ones to start with just to see if it would help without having to shell out five times as much for a fancy custom-made model. My wife and one of our friends have started seeing him too, and they both like him a lot, too.

Love Dr. Broom and his office staff. Been going here for years and take my kids here as well. Always super helpful and friendly and does a good job. Doesn’t try to upsell you on anything. No frills. If you want prompt, friendly, fairly-priced, and skilled dental work with no hassle and no frills, this the place for you. Dr. Broom is an awesome guy. You can tell he loves people (and his vocation) in everything he does. If he’s ever had a bad day when I’ve been visiting, I’ve never been able to detect it. His support staff is made of the same stuff. Seriously, I don’t like having to go to the dentist, but I LOVE that I get to go to Dr. Broom’s office when I need work done. Great people. Great experience. Thank you, Dr. Broom.

What else can be said that isn’t a repeat of what the other Yelp reviews have described of Dr. Broom? I received a new patient complimentary consultation from Dr. Broom about some tooth sensitivity. Not only did he helpfully identify the most likely tooth giving off the sensitivity, but he even provided thorough details about the possible underlying causes, realistic treatment options, and outlook for my overall dental health going forward. He and his team are the some of the most personable dental professionals around. Rather than use blame or scare tactics, it was clear that Dr. Broom has a genuine interest in his patients’ dental health. His interactions with me during my consultation were concise, friendly, and open-minded. For people who live in the U District, his office location is very convenient. Though he runs a small practice, this does not affect the excellent service you will receive on your visit. Currently, his open hours are different each day, so do plan ahead when it comes to scheduling an appointment. His location on the right side of the Wilsonian Apartment second floor can be easily missed if you’re assuming to see a big sign with his name on it.

My teeth are the worst part of my health, and I have always felt uncomfortable going to the dentist. This guy is the best dentist who ever worked on me with the best attitude. He even worked on me overtime a few times and never made me feel ashamed for how shockingly bad I treated my teeth. He even encouraged me to consider becoming a dental assistant because I used to work in the medical field, and I never forgot his standard of care. I’m now in dental assisting school in part because of my experience with him, and when I move back to his area I’m hoping to have him as my family dentist again!

Dr Broom has been my Dentist for a few years now. He is pleasant and sincere, same goes for the staff. I have been to a lot of Dentist in the past 10 years and sorry to say I have to move. If I was a millionaire I would try to move him with me. He never tried to sell me anything I didn’t need or push procedures on me. He’s always been straight forward and honest. Dentists typically have a bad habit of making me very insecure about my teeth and gums but he just tells me where he sees problems. He is the best teeth cleaner you can have. He’s aggressive and thorough, it’s basically a deep scaling which my insurance will only cover 1 every two years but for him it’s just part of the package. If you’re shopping for a Dentist even if you’re not in the U District it’s worth the drive.

Dr. Broom is really wonderful. I hadn’t been to a dentist for a few years and had prepared myself for the typical guilt trip that dentists have perfected, but he took it in stride and just focused on the future instead of the past. Prices were incredibly decent and he doesn’t pressure you regarding additional procedures/treatments.

Five stars to a dentist? Yes. Seriously. They bill directly to GAIP without making a fuss, and that’s five stars right there. Scheduling is easy and the location couldn’t be more convenient. The hygienist I had was quiet but nice. Dr. Broom was friendly, super competent, and had reasonable, useful recommendations without doing the you-MUST-FLOSS guilt trip. If you’re in the area, and especially if you are a UW graduate student, I would highly recommend him.

Mr. Broom is really a nice guy. I’ve seen him 2 times now and he is very personable and respectable of different opinions. I haven’t been to the dentist in over three years (oops) and I had a little pain with a wisdom tooth pushing through. After reading amazing yelp reviews, I decided to give Dr. Broom’s office a call. I’m so happy I did! The receptionist/billing lady was so nice and set up an appointment for a few days later- she even called to remind me the day before. After a very straightforward cleaning from the hygienist- no small talk, I mean, how could you? I met Dr. Broom who went into a scraping frenzy with my teeth (in a good way, it had been three years after all). He gave me a referral for my pesky wisdom tooth but assured me it wasn’t an emergency and that it was completely my decision. He was a really cool guy and I’m almost looking forward to my next exam in February.

I woke up with a toothache. Without a regular dentist, I needed to find one, and pretty quickly, too. I saw Dr. Broom had stellar reviews on Yelp, and–yay–he is a preferred provider through my dental insurance. Calling at 8:30 in the morning and hoping for an appointment, but not counting on one, I left a message. Dr. Broom himself rang me back, asked me a couple questions about my symptoms, and said he could probably squeeze me in, although he was quite busy. Threw on some acceptable attire and got there in time for my last-minute appointment. I was greeted by Dr. Broom, who was very courteous and patient. Within 10 minutes, his assistant was sticking cardboard in my mouth and taking an x-ray of my tooth. Although he had another patient, Dr. Broom was quite adept at spending time with both of us. The end result was not good news: root canal needed. Now. Dr. Broom gave me a referral as well as some positive feedback about the folks he directed me to visit, which made me feel a little better. I can’t thank Dr. Broom enough for his efforts to see me at last minute, which I know can be tough on the dentist, the assistants, as well as other patients. Although I’m not a huge fan of going to the dentist–but then, I don’t know who really looks forward to the experience–I intend to book an appointment with Dr. Broom for a more traditional cleaning appointment and evaluation.

I just went here and really enjoyed the service. I was seen quickly after entering Dr. Broom was friendly and honest. He pointed out a few minor concerns with my gum line and teeth alignment but recommended against doing anything because they were, again, minor. Other dentists often try to sell you on unnecessary procedures, this is not the case here. He also was happy to educate me on what he was doing and why. Finally, Broom seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me and where I was going with my studies.

I have been coming to this dentist office for my entire life. Literally. I was a patient here when Dr. Wemer was practicing, and then became a patient of Dr. Broom when Dr. Wemer retired. I have been through numerous tooth extractions, impacted teeth, braces, root canals–you name it. Dr. Broom and his staff have always made me feel like family and although I only go once a year, they are always up to date on my life and ask about my family. I love the fact that the office hasn’t changed–Jerry Seinfeld has been welcoming me in for years. I have never once felt that I have had to have an unnecessary procedure done and that is probably the reason why even though I live in Tacoma, will take an entire day off work to drive up to Seattle and see Dr. Broom. Truly one of the last honest doctors out there. Kudos to you and your staff, Dr. Broom!

Dr. Broom really is that great. I’ve had really horrible experiences at the dentist’s office but he immediately put my mind at ease. I have very sensitive gums and teeth so he made sure that I wasn’t uncomfortable and he’d adjust whatever he was doing if he saw that I was in pain. He’s very easy to talk to and most importantly *takes his time*. His office is always packed but he didn’t make me feel rushed and answered all of my questions. He even squeezed me into his schedule later on the same day because my molars were hurting after he put in some fillings. I had dental insurance but they do not cover night guards (grr!). Dr. Broom charges a lot less than anyone else and since I had weird time constraints he made it a point to get my night guard made right away. He saw me in between patients to make sure it fit properly and even though he was super busy he didn’t rush me out the door. He stood with me in the bathroom and explained how the night guard worked, how it should fit, etc… I refuse to go to anyone else and I’m so glad I read all the Yelp reviews before deciding on a dentist 🙂 His assistant wasn’t very nice and seemed annoyed (like she didn’t want to be there). I’m just going to chalk it up to her having a bad day, I guess… Regardless, I’m glad I found Dr. Broom. Oh and yes, he is handsome and really down to earth. They validate parking as well. Can’t beat that!

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Broom’s for almost 10 years, and he and the rest of his staff (Ida and Katherine) ROCK.  His is the sort of dental/medical practice you thought vanished a long while ago, or at least, only existed in the fictitious town of Mayberry.  This is not to say that Dr. Broom employs 40 year dental technology, but rather that he’s extremely down to earth, personable, and elicits his patients’ complete trust.  If you’re a UW graduate student on the GAIP, his office is super-conveniently located on the Ave.

I love Dr Broom.  If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while (which I hadn’t) and are afraid of being scolded…don’t despair.  He will fix you up and help you improve from there and is super nice.  His dental assistants are great and made it very comfortable for me.  I am a grad student at UW and they take the GAIP insurance without any question, I had to pay a little out of pocket for a filling, but it was about $25 bucks.  It might be more if you have more work done, but the insurance covers cleanings every 6 months and x-rays every year.  I really recommend him, he’s close, convenient and it doesn’t take a million years to get an appt!

I HATE the dentist. Probably more than anything else. The usual digging and pain and bleeding and lecture about the bleeding… yuck! I mean, let’s be honest, most dentists just go crazy on your gums! But not Dr. Broom. He is an awesome, personable, down-to-earth guy. He actually cares about his patients and remembers things that you told him last visit. He is gentle with you and has a way of telling you what you can do to improve your dental health without making you feel bad. He is also amazingly efficient. The ONLY downside is that because Dr. Broom is so great, it’s fairly difficult to get in to see him. But, I am definitely willing to deal with it!
