This is a dental practice run by a father and son, and both went to great dental schools. Dr. Benjamin Lu (the son) went to USC, and Dr. Henry Lu (the father) went to NYU. There are two offices, one in Temple City and the other in Alhambra. This review is based on my experiences with Dr. Benjamin Lu at both the Temple City and the Alhambra offices. First off, the office was very accommodating to my schedule when I explained to them that my dental insurance was about to expire, and they were able to squeeze me in on a weekday. Second, as someone who has had bad experiences with other dentists and generally distrusts them, I can say that Dr. Lu is a very genuine, caring, and attentive dentist. He has great bedside manners and, unlike other dentists, really takes the time to explain your dental health to you. For example, I’ve been told many times by other dentists that I should get my wisdom teeth removed, but I always put it off, thinking it wasn’t urgent or necessary. But Dr. Lu was the only one who took the time to explain to me what it meant to have impacted wisdom teeth. He took the time to show me the x-rays and explain to me that two of my wisdom teeth were growing sideways and, if left untreated, would eventually rot and decay in my mouth AND cause my good teeth to go bad as well. Not only did he take the time to explain that to me, he also helped me out and gave me advice on my dental insurance, since I had the option of two dental policies with my old job and my upcoming new job. Most dentists don’t know that much about how insurance works and just leave it to their staff to explain things to you. But Dr. Lu actually knows a lot about insurance and he took the time to explain things to me – which is another plus. I really appreciated that because I was confused about how my insurance worked and really concerned about out-of-pocket costs. And, unlike other dentists, Dr. Lu did not pressure me to do anything additional on the spot (besides the exam/cleaning that I initially went in for). Rather, he was genuinely concerned about my wisdom teeth and actually gave me a referral to another dentist – an oral surgeon who could remove my wisdom teeth. Basically, GO HERE for a dentist you can trust. Other pluses: The cleanings that I’ve gotten here did not hurt and did not take long. Also, Dr. Lu speaks English AND Cantonese. (I don’t know about Mandarin, but maybe?) And he’s young and handsome too!

Yes, I am one of those people that HATES going to the dentist. However, Dr. Lu has made a once dreaded occasion a much more pleasurable experience. He and his staff are professional, friendly, and efficient. It doesn’t hurt that Dr. Lu is a handsome man, though more importantly he has one of the best bedside manners I’ve ever encountered. Moreover, he is both highly skilled and sensitive to the needs of his patients. I can’t recommend Sunny Smile Dental high enough.

I have just moved into town from Vegas and really needed a personable dentist that I can trust who can be good to their patients without any hidden costs. Thank God for Dr Lu! My friends living here raved to me about him and I decided to give him a try. Nice office with professional staff. I had a lot of dental work done before and luckily it’s all still holding strong and I just needed a cleaning but the experience was so comfortable I’d definitely be coming back if I had a problem with anything. Great Office!

Dr. Lu is awesome. He’s so sweet. He’s great at what he  does. He’s very knowledgeable and makes you feel comfortable in his chair. He will go over everything with you. I love the fillings he did for me. Would recommend him to all my friends and family.

Dr. Lu is an amazing dentist, I had no idea my teeth were as bad as they were! He took the the time to actually educate me on what was happening with my teeth and what I could do to improve the situation. He also was very very thorough with taking care of my cavities and the whole process of getting new fillings was painless and easy! Dr Lu also helped me out with a deep clean which also was quick, easy, and painless all of the things you’d really want from your dentist. My favorite part was definitely the before and after logs he takes of your teeth. I’ve been going to Dr. Lu for half a year now, and I will definitely come back and recommend anyone else to stop by and talk to the guy to see if he can help you out with your dental needs!

Both the doctor and the staff here are friendly with great manners, and always take the time to explain my dental problems and make small talk with me. I always show up on time, and haven’t had to wait long at all to be called in. A staff like theirs make visits to the dentist not so bad !!
