My time with West End Dental started with Dr. John Krippaehne in late 70’s. Like Dr. John, Dr. Jim Krippaehne is an excellent dentist-very professional, personable, super gentle with the ‘needle’, patient, asks how you’re doing during a procedure & an over all good person! Hygienists are friendly & gentle with the cleanings! The office staff is awesome-always personable & friendly-they keep you coming back!

I can’t say enough to express my gratitude for this dental office as a whole. Dr. Kripphaene is the most gentle, caring, skilled dentist and oral surgeon I have met. He was my dentist from 1998 to 2007 when I moved from Portland to Idaho, and again over the last year. The front office staff is ALWAYS friendly and helpful, the dental assistants and hygienists are the best in their skill and friendliness, and Dr. Kripphaene is all the same and more–always treating his staff and patients with kindness and respect. A year ago I found out I needed to get several teeth removed and implants placed. I visited with several oral surgeons in my area, but none inspired the confidence that the whole staff at West End Dental does, cared for my dental health to the degree that Dr. Kripphaene does (his plan saved a fourth tooth others were just going to remove) or explained the procedures carefully and thoroughly as a matter of course. I never felt like I was a number being “sold” as I did in a couple of the other offices. Their prices were more competitive for the whole process, and the care they give is far above other offices I’ve visited. I chose to travel from Idaho for each procedure to have this work done, and I couldn’t have been happier! They inspire confidence, were forever caring in every detail of each procedure (calling to check in after many of the visits), and did excellent work. The day after the final step was completed I had to think hard to remember on which side of my mouth all the work had been done. My new teeth look and feel great. Thanks West End Dental team for such great care!!

The dentist, the hygienist (Rachel) were so careful and thorough that I enjoyed my experience there and that is saying a great deal about a dental appointment! Dr. K is simply the best! Excellent experience every time I visit his office. His chairside assistants and hygienists are top notch and very thorough. I’ve had everything from fillings, caps and root canals done by Dr. K and have always been more than pleased with my outcomes. I’m very impressed with West End Dental. Their comprehensive care is very much appreciated. Beyond their already established perfection, including Covid-19 protocol, there’s another reason to be a part of West End Dental. Recently, during a routine cleaning appointment they handed me a questionnaire for sleep apnea. The results indicated the need for a sleep study and they made it easy and quick by sending a referral to a sleep study clinic. I had always struggled with sleep but sleep apnea never occurred to me. Given the significant health risks associated with sleep apnea, I’m so relieved to be taking steps to resolve this. Dr. Krippaehne is fitting me for an appliance and will help monitor its results. The whole team played a role in this success.

Their front office is extremely professional, letting me know any changes with my insurance coverage or providing estimates for work. The office has been remodeled to minimize Covid risk. My appt this week felt safe from start to finish. I wasn’t a huge fan of going to the dentist before seeing Dr. Krippaehne at West End. He’s done a significant amount of work for me and it’s always top-notch. Also a shout out to Rachel, my dental hygienist – she remembers which teeth are sensitive and goes easy on me. I could not recommend the experience at West End more, particularly if you are picky about your dental work.

Dr. Krappaehne was a referral. He removed 2 mercury fillings that I had from over 30 years ago. Dr. Krappaehne was able to save my teeth with porceline fillings. Dr. James Krippaehne was born in Portland, Oregon, graduating from Beaverton High School in 1980. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Oregon in 1984 and his dental degree from Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), Cum Laude, in 1988. He chose to spend the next two years in post-graduate training at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas. During this time he received advanced training in all aspects of dentistry including cosmetic, surgical, sedation, and implant dentistry. Upon returning to Portland, Dr. Jim joined his father, Dr. John Krippaehne and they practiced together for ten years. Dr. Krippaehne maintains memberships in numerous professional societies including Multnomah Dental Society, Oregon Dental Association, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Clear Aligners. He is a past Fellow of the American Association of Hospital Dentists. He received his Masters in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2012, an award achieved by less than 1% of all general dentists. This title requires 1100 hours of multi-discipline continuing education. The award speaks to the organization's value of excellence in dentistry through continuing education. Dentists who have earned mastership offer their patients cutting-edge care. Dr. Krippaehne completed advanced training in obstructive sleep apnea and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. This designation is the gold standard in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea by dentists and represents a commitment to provide the highest level of care within this field of practice. West End Dental embodies Dr. Jim's philosophy of providing dental care. That philosophy is to help the patients understand their treatment options, provide dental care consistent with the way he would treat his family, and meet the treatment needs and personal concerns of his patients. In his private life, Dr. Jim and his wife Polly have two lovely daughters.
