Fantastic dentist and service. After living in several cities, I found that Dr. Baxter provided an honest assessment without the need to challenge unnecessary tooth extractions, etc. It is unfortuntely difficult to find an honest dentist and I have found a gem. I had an awful experience in a different city with a dentist that wanted to extract two teeth and after a second opinion who said those two teeth were in good condition, I am now do my research and will eagerly return to Dr. Baxter. In addition, her office completely handled my insurance claim so no hassle.

One of the best dental experiences I’ve ever had. I’m a patient of many years now and continue to appreciate the kind professionalism of Dr. Baxter and her entire staff in DC. They are being very attentive to pandemic safety and remain obviously committed to the highest standards of care.

★★★★★

Excellent service at the reception desk (and over emails/calls), friendly and competent staff who perform cleanings or procedures, and the doctor drops by after each cleaning or procedure to double check the work of her staff. Recommend most highly!

I’ve avoided the dentist like the plague for the last two years, but finally decided to get my act together. I trusted a friend’s referral and visited Dr. Baxter for the first time today. She was extremely patient and efficient. She didn’t waste any time, but also didn’t rush through any of my questions. She took time to explain each step of the cleaning and examination, which made me feel very confident about the procedures. I would highly recommended Dr. Baxter to anyone who is looking for a no-nonsense, pain-free dental experience.

So I have a fear of dentist that is totally stupid but stems from a bad previous dentist experience in DC. I went to see Dr. Baxter after 5 years of being to scared to go to anyone. I picked her randomly thinking: 1) she takes my insurance; 2) she’s close to a metro and work; and 3) a female dentist may get my fear without laughing at me. Her waiting room is like your grandma’s house. More shabby, less chic, but she has great new equipment and computer programs. She was able to talk me through everything she was doing and put me at ease. I’ve sent all of my friends who are dentist seeking to her, and she’s been pleased. I still cringe when I hear that drill, but am back on my twice a year visits, and that’s good enough for now.

Dr. Baxter and her staff make going to the dentist a — literally — pain free experience. They are extremely nice people and are very flexible regarding appointment times (having pre-9:00am appointments is a huge bonus). I’ve never had to wait for an appointment, and you are typically in-and-out in under 45 minutes. Billing has also been completely seamless. It’s pretty unlikely that someone will ever figure out a way to make going to the dentist an objectively positive or fun experience. But I think Dr. Baxter’s team deserves 5 stars for making the experience as “not awful” as possible. You also can’t beat the location (1.5 blocks from the Dupont Circle South metro entrance).

I just went here for the first time and it was great! My appointment was at 3:40; I was walking to the exam room by 3:42. The waiting room furniture (since so many people seemed eager to comment on it) is kind of unusual and grandmotherly, as people have said, but first of all, I liked it, and second of all, my dentist can have any kind of couches they like if they know about teeth. A cheerful, very friendly dental hygienist named Diane cleaned my teeth – she was careful, clearly competent, and explained every step. In fact, everyone in the office, including Dr. Baxter, was cheerful, friendly, and competent. I will be going back.

Hard to understand how anyone could give Dr Baxter a bad review. Lets face it, going to the dentist is never fun, but Dr Baxter is by far the best dentist I’ve ever seen, and she does such a great job I don’t mind it anymore. I’ve never had to wait more than 3 minutes after I check in before I’m seen. All the staff are excellent, and provide meaningful advise (not just lectures). Dr Baxter has always provided EXCELLENT service. Best dentist in DC, hands down.

I LOVE this office and just found out I have to change dentists, as I have a new job and they take my new insurance. I am so disappointed. I’ve grown to love Jessica (best hygienist ever) and the whole office. Easy to deal with, convenient and good. I have very sensitive gums and have had to have a scaling procedure. With Jessica, it was painless. I am SO sad to have to leave this practice.

I have had so many horrible dentist experiences in DC that I was beginning to give up. The last dentist (Daniel Cave) had informed me that I would need 2 crowns replaced, as well as 2 new ones! He said the most urgent one was due to decay – Dr. Baxter examined me and did a cleaning (herself), as well as taking bite wings. I will get Dr. Cave to send my complete x-rays but from what she could tell there was *nothing wrong*!! I am *so* glad that I sought a 2nd opinion and found her rather than letting Dr. Cave provide thousands of dollars worth of totally unnecessary dental work! I highly recommend Barbara Baxter, very professional, courteous and thorough.

I used Yelp to find Dr. Baxter, and she lived up to her reviews. Took me on time, dental hygienist and Dr. Baxter provided great service. I had a basic cleaning and no intense dental work done. Definitely among the best dental experiences I’ve had. Just got my reminder card in the mail to make my 6 month appointment.

Dr. Baxter was recommended to me by a coworker who is also particular about the quality of her dental care. Beside being prompt, every step was explained to me clearly and the quality of my cleaning was fantastic–thorough and without any discomfort whatsoever! I will definitely be returning to Dr. Baxter for my next cleaning in six months.

I am deathly afraid of the dentist and get a knot in my stomach days before an appointment. New to DC, I checked out yelp to get some advice. Dr. Baxter’s office is close to my office, and I didn’t have to wait weeks or months for an opening. The office isn’t fancy, and Dr. Baxter is all business, which is a good thing. (No small talk when I have dental instruments poking and or prodding me, thank you.) Dr. Baxter did the cleaning herself, which was a pleasant surprise. It was also the most thorough cleaning I’ve had in recent memory. The x-ray machine seemed to be the most hi-tech instrument in the office, and spits out the images instantly. All-in-all, with no serious issues, I was in and out in 45 minutes. Great experience all around. Really friendly staff and no pressure to go for non-essential treatments (e.g. expensive electric toothbrushes, teeth whitening, purely cosmetic procedures). I’m definitely relieved to have found good dentist on the first try. If you’re shopping around and the office takes your insurance (or if cost isn’t a concern), don’t hesitate. Just call Dr. Baxter’s office

Even though I live in Virginia now, there is a reason I go into DC for the dentist. Dr. Baxter’s office has been taking care of my teeth for 47 years. I’ve only had 1 small cavity in that entire time!!!! Very professional, appointments on time with very little waiting, caring staff. I highly recommend Dr. Baxter.

I have been going to Dr Baxter for at least 4 years now and have no complaints at all. She knows her stuff and I don’t feel that she is pushing procedures on me just to make money. Her staff are professional and polite and do a good job with cleaning my teeth and making future appointments. As for her waiting room… It’s not the most up-to-date but I can’t for the life of me imagine why that would matter to someone. Of the dozen or so times that I have been there I have never waited more than 5 minutes in the waiting room.

I have been seeing Dr. Baxter for about a year and so far I have no complaints. Dr. Baxter and her staff are always on time, professional and efficient. She is located near my office and my apartment so it’s very convenient and easy to get appointment times that work for my schedule. I have never waited more than a few minutes upon arrival for my appointment to start and the staff always makes sure I’ve scheduled my next appointment before I’ve left.

Have had a great experience with Dr. Baxter thus far. Apts are easy and fast. She is friendly and personable as are the staff. She is not going to try to aggressively over treat you like some dentists do but she and her hygenists do pay attention and work to make sure you remain healthy. She is filling a cavity for me that had been on watch (I’ve had 3 dentists due to moves over the past few years). We discovered it because the hygenist and then she took the time to talk to me about the type of pain I have been experiencing. I’ve had dentists that want to subject you to all kinds of procedures or put metal in my mouth and dentists who were trying not to find any problems seemingly. She seems to be neither of these in my experience though definitely read all the reviews. Added plus there is little or no wait time.

I LOVE Dr. Baxter. After looking at some dentist review sites and seeing who accepted my insurance, I decided on Dr. Baxter’s office. It was close to my office at the time (I’ve since changed jobs and work farther away, but her office is still quite Metro-accessible), but I refuse to change to a dentist who might be closer to me. Her staff is lovely. While she didn’t used to use hygienists (she used to do all the cleaning herself) the hygienists that cleaned my teeth last time was wonderful. Very sweet girl that I had a nice chat with. Dr. Baxter herself is very soft-spoken and really cares about her patients. While now I’ve switched insurance and they no longer take it, they know all the proper procedures to get my claim taken care of, so making a claim is a snap. It’s pretty safe to say that as long as I live in DC, I’ll never stop going to Dr. Baxter!

I was actually really nervous to go to the dentist. I’m not afraid of the art of dentistry…it’s my first time going “as an adult” with my own insurance, and I had to find a dentist on my own, and my wisdom teeth had starting aching… The Yelp reviews weren’t helping. Alas, she was the closest dentist to my office, and she was accepting new patients. That’s all the convincing I needed to give her a shot. Her staff was very friendly and accommodating. They accepted my insurance paperwork without hassle, completed the filing for me (apparently that’s not a guarantee?), and saw me through my x-rays and into the hygienist chair quickly. My hygienist was pleasant, and explained what she was doing (unnecessary, because I don’t give a damn, but I can see where that’d be a nice touch for others). Dr. Baxter herself was very no-nonsense, but she explained my next steps re: wisdom teeth succinctly and in a way I understood. I liked that I could see the blown-up x-rays as she talked about my teeth. I like that she took a good look and answered all my questions. I loved that I walked out in just under an hour with my teeth cleaned, my paperwork filed, my x-rays taken, and my referral to the oral surgeon completed. I’m quite satisfied by my random dentist choosing methodology, and I’ll certainly be a patient as long as she remains convenient to work and as friendly as my first visit.

I’ve seen a lot of dentists, and this office by far the best I’ve been to. The hygienist, whose name I’m ashamed I can’t remember, was patient, explained everything perfectly clearly, and thorough without that stab-the-hell-out-of-you thing. Even better, I showed up on time, and was immediately brought in to get started. From start to finish, I’ve never had such a good experience.

I can’t even describe the waiting room to this place because I’ve never sat down in it – this is a place where when you make an appointment, you actually go in at that time. I’ve never had trouble making appointments, and always get to go in right away and am out almost as quickly as I went in. Everyone here, from the friendly receptionists and hygienists to Dr. Baxter herself are quick and efficient and make going to the dentist super painless. They are very patient with you and make you feel comfortable to ask anything about your teeth and give good advice. They actually remember/read info you put down about yourself and make you feel like you’ve been going there forever, even after a few visits. This is the first time in my life I’m not avoiding going to the dentist because I’m almost enjoying it, and that says a lot.

Never make an 8AM appointment during DC’s unpredictable winter months. I made a teeth-cleaning appointment for Dr. Baxter’s opening timeslot this morning. I woke up to snow falling sideways and the federal government’s first (and possibly only) delayed-start of the season. I expected Dr. Baxter’s office to call and cancel, but when I heard nothing, I reluctantly trudged to her office. A few minutes after 8AM, the hygienist arrived and apologized, saying she was the only one in the office who doesn’t drive to work, thus she was the only one to arrive. Much to my surprise and delight, she had me wait just a few more minutes while she called her own 8AM patients to see if they were coming in, and when it was confirmed that they weren’t, she saw me in Dr. Baxter’s place. She was wonderful with the cleaning, gentle but thorough, and I made it into work at 9AM. Too bad no one else is coming in until 11… To recap: their office has the customer service I always hope for but rarely get, and the hygienist was a total delight!

Baxter and Baxter’s office staff are wonderful. The work is efficient, on-time, and friendly. Almost as importantly, I don’t feel afraid to ask them questions about my treatment – not to second guess their decisions, but to understand what’s being done and why. Their informative and attentive responses have really won me over – I don’t ask questions any more.

Everyone at the office was fantastic — I was even sent a survey after my visit asking me how I liked it and what could be done to make it better. Also, I was really impressed by the fact that when I pushed back on some treatments, Dr. Baxter was able to modify them to ensure compliance (as opposed to other doctors who try and bully treatments on to their patients). A+

Just an update to say that I’m still really pleased with this place. I just went back for the 2nd time, for a regular cleaning. I arrived at 9:35 for my 9:40 appointment, waited no more than 5 minutes, and was out the door by 10:15. The hygienist was friendly, skilled and attentive, and Dr. Baxter was very efficient. I also love how hassle-free the reception/billing desk is.
