Disclaimer: I am an employee of this dental office. I wanted to make it common knowledge, that the dentists (my employers), have taken care of all of us during this time of uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. They have continued to pay us, and have encouraged us to stay home and stay healthy. I think that this says a lot about their character. Our office is currently closed (except for emergency care) and they still want to make sure that their employees are making ends meet. It’s given me a sense of security in a very scary world. If you are looking for a dentist who has immense compassion and integrity, then this is your office. We look forward to bringing you into our dental family (when we open back up, of course)!

I have been a client at Dougherty Dental for more than 35 years. John has always been capable and caring, despite his poor assist-to-shot ratio on the basketball court. Most are unaware of the substantial amount of charity work John performs for clergy and others. His son, Scott, is also very capable and has injected new energy into the business. My favorite, however, is Joanie, who is not only a great hygienist, but also a very good amateur psychologist. The rest of the staff is wonderful, and does a great job of making a visit to the dentist a positive experience.

I have visited Dr. Dougherty for a very long time, my grandparents were patients, and my parents are patients, as well (this is a third-generation family business). Dr. Dougherty fixed the clicking problem I had with my jaw alignment, and I see Carol for my teeth cleaning. She offers to get the plaque off using three different ways, and I choose the way that works best for me, given my tolerance for having my teeth worked on and how perfect I want my teeth to be afterward. I strongly recommend Dougherty Dental.

I’m giving Dougherty Dental the highest rating because they have consistently met (all of) what I think are the most important criteria for a dental office: 1) Technical expertise that is thorough and current, 2) Professionalism and integrity, 3) Efficient  and accurate administration.  At Dougherty Dental, I appreciate the fact that, for me, it doesn’t matter which dentist is available for my appointment, they all meet criterial #1 and so do the staff they work with.  The qualify of their work has been A+ every time.  More than once, I’ve been given several different options for the care of my teeth.  Each time, emphasis has been given to what’s best for my dental health vs. what costs the most – That kind of honesty and objectivity means the world to me.  Lastly, The staff managing the Dr’s appointment schedule is outstanding – Information has always been accurate, complete, and timely.  I also appreciate receiving a reminder via mail and a personal phone call. I have been coming to Dougherty Dental since I moved to PDX from Manhattan.  Today, I see Scott Dougherty as my primary dentist and Joni  for my hygienist.  There office keeps timely appointments, accepts a variety of insurance carriers, and most importantly, all of their technology is up to date.  Since starting with them I have sent numerous referrals their way! Trust me when I say, I would not go anywhere else, and I am super picky when it comes to my teeth.  

Having tried various dentists in the Portland area, I simply can’t say enough about the service, work product, and pricing at Dougherty Dental. They provide top notch work at an excellent value. Over the past two years, Dr. Dougherty  have helped me with everything from basic cleanings to a tooth implant. I’m not a fan of going to the dentist, but I always feel comfortable in their office. The location is remarkably convenient (NW Portland), and they are very flexible about making (and rescheduling) appointments.

I’ve had enough prior dental horror experiences to be completely terrified of the dentist now as a grown adult. But EVERYONE here at Dougherty Dental made me feel welcome, cared about, listened to, and at ease. I had some odd teeth situations come up and ended up seeing all three dentists and each one was exceptionally easy to communicate with, respectful, and thorough. All the dental hygienists were extremely gentle and compassionate. I wouldn’t go anywhere for the rest of my life if I wasn’t moving abroad, and actually I’m hoping to coordinate any future dental care with trips back to Portland just to stay with this office. THE BEST.

I’m 65 and have been going to Dougherty Dental for at least 20 years, and plenty of other dentists prior to that. They are very conscientious and meticulous in their work and they have been very fair with me on pricing when I haven’t had insurance. John even called me when he was on vacation and I had a problem that needed immediate attention to make sure the work that was done by the covering dentist (he was solo at that time) had taken care of things to my satisfaction. Apart from the dentists themselves the staff is terrific throughout– from reception to the assistants and especially Joanie, hygienist extraordinaire, who has been there even longer than I have been going. Great work, nice,  highly competent people, and a convenient location with off-street parking. It doesn’t get any better.

Dougherty Dental is wonderful all round. They are attentive, flexible, extremely nice and I feel very confident in their judgement and decision making. I have seen all of the dentists there, they are all highly recommended and I feel very comfortable with trusting their abilities and trusting that they are concerned with my needs and priorities. This place is a family run business and they feel like that, it feels personal and comfortable. All the staff here work together to create a pleasant and easy experience. I have been coming here for almost 10 years, my little kids come here and my husband has been coming here for over 20 years.

I highly recommend going to Dougherty Dental. I have a visceral fear of the dentist from years ago of braces, wisdom teeth extraction gone wrong, root canals, etc… I moved here from San Francisco almost 3 years ago and knew I had a lot of work that needed to be done. I was also embarrassed about my teeth. I only went to the dentist when in a lot of pain. On my first visit to my last, I was treated with care & dignity. After my initial exam, I was given a treatment plan that I did not feel overwhelmed by the financial cost. All of the staff are great!

I’m super scared of the dentist but dr Dougherty def put my worries at ease.  No pain or discomfort during my whole appointment, only good advice and friendly faces!  They’ve been really flexible with my terrible scheduling abilities and never take out how frustrating I am to work with on my teeth lol

We needed a last-minute appointment with a dentist because we were here from out of town and my mom had fallen. She’d thought she might lose her tooth because it felt a little loose and our regular dentist suggested she see a dentist sooner rather than wait until we returned to San Diego. We were in the Pearl District when I thought of getting her an appointment and the first dental office I tried went straight to voicemail during regular business hours. I’m glad. Because when I called Dougherty Dental, I was assisted by a very nice woman on the phone who said she would try to get my mother in for an appointment at the last minute this afternoon. And sure enough, she was able to get the dentist to squeeze my mom in. We were in love with the service and attention to care my mom received at this dental office. The dentist did not try to oversell my mom. He just wanted to make sure she was OK. They even emailed her xrays to my mom’s regular dentist in San Diego. And the pricing was both fair and reasonable. My mom kept commenting how she would make them her regular dentist if she ever lived in Portland. She loved this office so much!

Really terrific practice. Dr. Scott is awesome and professional. Not only that he goes the extra mile for you. Ive had several dentists and none have followed up with me to make sure I get all the info and advice I need to make a good decision about my dental work. Prices are very reasonable and friendly front desk. Highly recommend.
