I have been coming here for years, since the previous owner, and I am very happy with Dr. Shepherd and his team. I recently had some old ugly mercury fillings replaced with natural tooth colored fillings and got started with Invisalign and I am so happy with my results! We have a new fantastic family dentist in Fountain Valley. Dr. Shepherd is very efficient, accomplished, and gives his patients complete dental work satisfaction. I am always welcomed by a warm and genuine staff, from the office personnel, to the assistance, to Martha the hygienist and Dr. Shepherd himself. I trust their expertise am always pleased when leaving. Most recently, I needed a filling while having a routine cleaning. After Dr. Shepherd’s examination per request of the hygienist, I asked if the filling would be possible to do during that appointment time. He obliged. In doing so, we did not discuss cost. Within the hour of leaving the office, I received a call that the additional charge for the filling would be refunded as we did not discuss any charges. That is 100% top notch service!!!

I’m a periodontal patient, so I’ve gone to many dentist offices in my time. I like this dentist more than the others I’ve gone to previously. I’ve known the dental hygienists there for years, and they do wonderful work, as it’s needed with my gum problem. The dentist noticed I was grinding my teeth so they got me a night guard for bruxism. Jessie is an awesome office manager, and gets me the best appointment times available. She is also great at communicating with my insurance company for me. I bring my son here too. No one looks forward to a dental visit, but all of my visits here were painless. Thank you.

Best dentist ever!!! Dr. Shepherd and his staff are all top notch! They are welcoming and always make you feel comfortable, and he has the best bedside manners I’ve ever experienced from a dentist. Another great thing that I value is that they are always on time and don’t make you wait, yet they never make you feel rushed, they always take their time to explain everything and give you options. I know I’m in great hands here, I have had my fair share of bad experiences in the past with other dentists, and drive all the way from West Los Angeles to his office in Fountain Valley, but it’s definitely worth the drive, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Awesome knowledge of his practice. I was going to his father in laws practice and when I heard he was retiring, I was a little nervous at first, but I believe you should give others a chance. Dr. Shepherd knows what he is doing and knows what needs to be done. I was previously a patient of the former dentist, Dr. Bjarne Kavarnstrom. When I heard Dr. K was selling his practice, I thought I would give the new dentist, Dr. John B Shepherd, a try. I noticed that Dr. Shepherd was very similar to Dr. K. Dr Shepherd’s staff was very pleasant and professional. As a fountain valley dental team we offer excellent quality, excellent customer service and never a double booked appointment. We pride our office with on time appointments, gentle treatment and empathy for the entire family. Don't like needles or shots? We utilize a Diode Laser that can do many cavity fillings without the need for the needle or novacaine. We are a small "mom and pop" dental office. No corporate Wall Street dentist here. Come in today and see how we are different, we are a classic dental office with modern technology. Dr. Shepherd’s professional life started off in construction in Orange County and Big Bear, where he built custom homes. While he loved being a carpenter he felt that he could provide his talents to a broad range of the community through healthcare. That is when he decided to return to school and pursue a career in dentistry. Dr. Shepherd knew that dentistry would be a natural fit for him – lets face it dentistry is construction on a micro scale. After receiving his dental degree at NSU’s College of Dental Medicine, Dr. Shepherd worked as an associate dentist in Las Vegas, Honolulu and the small Hawaiian island of Lana’i. During this time he had the opportunity to treat a diverse population and perform all facets of dentistry. Most recently, Dr. Shepherd’s career has taken him back to Orange County once again, when he purchased the dental practice of his father-in-law and mentor, Dr. Bjarne Kvarnstrom in 2018. He is committed to providing the highest quality of dental care to his patients by combining a gentle touch with clinical excellence. As a proud member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and Orange County Dental Society, Dr. Shepherd regularly participates in continuing education to make sure he stays up-to-date on the latest dental advancements. Dr. Shepherd now lives in Long Beach with his wife and son. When not at the office, he enjoys travelling with his family. Closer to home, he can be found at the beach, surfing, golfing and enjoying all that Southern California has to offer.
