Dr. Roxas is so awesome! Not only does he do good work, but he’s just a generally nice guy and keeps you informed about what’s going on in your mouth. He’s one of the few dentists I’ve ever had who really makes you feel like he actually cares about the patients understanding the procedures. I can’t stand it when I go to the dentist and after hearing a bunch of dentist jargon, the doctor tells me in vague terms whats going to happen. Dr. Roxas makes you feel very comfortable about having dental work done. I actually kind of look forward to going, which is something I thought I’d never say. They’re really nice and they have great communication with their patients. I’ve also found it to be cheaper than most dentists I’ve had. Roxas Rules.

Marcus F. from Portland, OR (Source: Yelp)

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Roxas for a couple of years now, we could not be happier with the care and service that we receive. The entire team is just excellent, I have never felt more comfortable or informed at any other dental practice (or medical practice for that matter). Hands down the best dentist that I have ever received care from, I recommend this team to anyone that I can.

John M. from Portland, OR (Source: Yelp)

I needed a dentist and asked a co-worker, he gave me Dr. Roxas’ name. The best dentist AND the best staff!! Everything is clearly explained – from the procedure all the way to fees, insurance and any questions you might have. Everyone makes you feel at ease and like you’ve known each other for years. Dr. Roxas and his staff have taken away any anxiety of a dental visit.

Justina L. from Portland, OR (Source: Yelp)

I don’t think I’ve ever written a review before but I will for Dr. Roxas cause my experience was that good.   I was having excruciating tooth pain from a previous botched up cavity and went to see Dr. Roxas as a new patient.  He adjusted his schedule to fit me in, did the emergency work, and cut me a deal when my insurance wouldn’t cover a thing.  No judgment, no rudeness, just a ‘what can I do to help’ attitude and action.  Very, very rare in today’s medical and dental world.  Where else can you get in at the last minute for major work?
Now the whole family goes there.

I have a long standing fear of dentists. Dr Roxas is one that I am confident & comfortable with. He and his staff are skilled, and used to dealing with skittish clients and complex health issues. The entire team is professional, friendly, and ensure that visits are as stress free as possible.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to the dentist.  A very long while.  So I was a bit apprehensive about taking that leap after so many years.  After reading the reviews here, I decided to go with Dr Roxas and am so glad I did.  I can now cross ‘conquer my fear of the dentist’ off my list.  As many other reviewers have said, the entire staff is wonderful.  So nice and welcoming from the start.  And instead of lectures about the bad parts (I definitely need more work), Dr Roxas emphasized the good parts and made me feel much more comfortable about what needs to be done in future visits.  Aware of my apprehension, everyone was super nice and always made sure I was okay with what was being done.  I even (gasp!) went to the dentist two days in a row.  And while I’m not exactly looking forward to my next visit, I’m confident that they’ll do their best to keep me (and my teeth) happy.

I don’t normally write online reviews, but I felt compelled to given that I chose to go Dr. Roxas based on all his positive reviews. I have avoided going to the dentist for the last 3 years, because the typical experience sucks. But I finally decided it was time for a cleaning, and am I so glad I chose to go here. The receptionist was super nice and made sure everything would be covered by insurance. It urned out I needed to get two fillings and that experience was the best I’ve ever had. They were very patient to explain everything they were going to do, and they took their time to make sure the novacaine was fully activated before they started drilling. The whole procedure was very quick and, for the first time in my life, I did not feel a thing. They were awesome. They even gave me a summary of the charges ahead of time for what I would have to pay out of pocket for the fillings, which is greatly appreciated given the complexity of the insurance world these days. Before I left the receptionist even told me that she might be ge tthe insurance to pay more than they first thought. I can’t recommend them more highly. I dare say this dental experience was almost pleasant. Finally, I won’t dread going to the dentist anymore.

This is the dentist for those who hates dentists, and/or have a long succession of traumatic childhood experiences involving orthodontry in general (it me). Dr. Roxas is amazing – kind, funny, calm. He’s super great, and reason alone to go here, but the real reason I’m reviewing is the support cast – Midge is basically the most rad front desk person you’ll ever meet, and my hygienist, Chenoa, is both brilliant at her job and so funny and generally awesome that I will hurl a chair through a window should I ever have to get my teeth cleaned by anyone else (not kidding). A friend initially recommended I go here several years ago, and now I’m passing on the karma by being that friend, advising you to go here. So, go.

If you’re on yelp looking for the best dentist in Portland, congratulations, your search is complete. These guys are, hands down, the best dentists I’ve ever had. Dr. Roxas really takes the time to explain to you what’s going on, and it feels like he keeps up to date on the most current knowledge in the field of dentistry. Chenoah is always a pleasure to be around, and makes getting my teeth cleaned actually enjoyable. And Midge rocks the front desk, and might just be one the most helpful people I’ve ever met. Seriously, these guys are the best. Sometimes I swing by there just to hang out with them.

I LOVE DR ROXAS!! I have been to quite a few dentists, and some of them I felt were not completely honest with me nor had my best interest in mind. I definitely feel like I can trust Dr Roxas. You can tell he truly cares about what is best for his patients. I am such a fan, in fact, that even though I was able to get dental insurance for 2014 (insurance that is not taken by this office), I decided to stay and continue to pay out of pocket. I was just not willing to give up having a dentist I could fully trust. If you can get in, I 100% recommend coming here.

Emily R. from Portland, OR (Source: Yelp)

I really really really really really really really love Dr. Roxas. No, really. The office is clean, the hygienists and people at the front desk are friendly, and Dr. Roxas really loves teeth. He works quickly and kindly and explains what is going on. He worked with me to get the care I needed at a price I could afford (since insurance only covers so much.) I would recommend him to anyone!

If you’re at all nervous about going to the dentist, feel self conscious about something don’t wait another second to call Dr. Roxas’ office. I’ve been a lifelong nervous dentist-goer and after two years of living abroad and getting zero dental care while I was gone I knew I needed to find the right dentist for me. After reading all of the reviews here I knew I’d found the right office. Everyone here is so, so nice calming, helpful and just the best. I spent three hours in the chair today and didn’t feel uncomfortable for a minute of it. I literally can’t stop smiling – the work they do here is amazing!

There is a good reason that Dr. Roxas has all 5 star reviews. I had to have a lot of work done this morning and although my face hurts I’m smiling. Due to a lack of insurance I hadn’t been to a dentist in about 6 years and lets just say I have some catching up to do.  Dr. Roxas was thorough, efficient, FAST and made me feel really comfortable. I am kicking myself for not knowing his assistants name but she deserves a big shout out as well… super nice and they are great at what they do. I have never had a filling before that when  i left, I looked at it and said “wow, that’s a beautiful filling”! Check that one off the list.

Since I found Dr Roxas through Yelp, I figured it was time to return the favor! I have been going to Dr Roxas for the past three years, and I can’t recommend him and his staff enough. His office staff and hygienists are friendly, helpful and great at their job. Not only is his office a short bike ride away, they take appointments as early as 7:00am so I can stop in before work. Dr Roxas really loves being a dentist – you can tell by how excited he is explaining what’s coming. Whether its a routine exam (complete with jaw massage) or a more complicated procedure, he will carefully walk you through the process and explain why he believes it necessary. Plus he always has some new tool he can’t wait to try, which makes me think he really takes the time to keep up with advances in his field.

A top-notch review for the whole office – not only Dr. Roxas, but the whole team, including Erin (the hygenist) and Rachel (the office manager / reception). I give some attention to the quality of my dentist – they make a difference and you see them with some frequency – and, having had dentists good and bad, Dr. Roxas is definitely of the *good*. On the key metrics – competent, attentive, and friendly people (honest too) and good equipment (technology!) – the office is in the best I’ve seen. True, it’s not much to look at (not drab, but not as chic as some offices in some Districts I may think of), but I see this as more a reflection of priorities (substance over style). Also, Rachel (office manager / reception) is the most cheerful (chipper!) receptionist I’ve ever met, ever. I don’t think she drinks happy juice – I think she *is* happy juice. Everyone in the office was not only competent, careful (“hmm, better take that x-ray shot again”, or “yup, that’s bone, not calculus”), and cheerful, but very happy to explain what they were doing and their thought process. Regarding technology, this was the first office I’ve been that uses digital x-rays, and thus they actually had the pictures (and other data) to hand, and did in fact refer to them during procedures. (I know – what a concept: actually use the data when it’s relevant.) The office is also very upfront about costs and options – the most of any medical service I’ve known. After doc had recommended a service, Rachael would explain what it would cost, what other options were (do you want resin, gold, or depleted plutonium?), and left decisions to me, without any hard sell. The office is across town for me, but I’m happy to go, and delighted with my experience!

I made a Yelp account just so I can tell everyone how awesome Dr. Roxas and his team are!!! Been coming here for over a year now wish I would have found them sooner. Always feel like I’m at home. Dr. Roxas is a hoot in a half always has good jokes. Chenoah does a thorough job cleaning my teeth she is fantastic! Betsy is great too, love her and Midge is the awesome! She even showed up to support me when I ran the Portland marathon in October!!!! LOVE LOVE all these people. No one else can get even close to how fantastic this office is!!!!!!!!! You wont regret coming here!!!!!!

Dr. Roxas was the first provider that my insurance listed, and he’s a mile’s walk from my house. Add to those qualifications of convenience his stellar reviews here, and I knew I had finally found my Portland-area dentist after avoiding finding one for nearly two years. I had a really hard time choosing a dentist in the Portland area after moving back from the San Francisco Bay Area two years ago, because my dentist there had been that good. I wanted somebody who used the same cutting-edge technology, and explained things to me with the same clarity and friendliness as my Bay Area dentist. Choosing a dentist here carried the risk that I’d go through the pain and expense of an initial consult (all the x-rays and photos, etc.), only to discover that I didn’t like the practitioner. Luckily, all these great Yelp reviews minimized that risk! Like others have mentioned, Dr. Roxas was straightforward about my “treatment plan” without lecturing me for the issues that have emerged with my teeth in my two years without a dentist. As I hoped, he’s been clear about what’s happening in my mouth, and has explained procedures clearly. I really appreciate having this extra information, as my past experiences with dentistry in Portland left me feeling like the communication I received wasn’t uniquely tuned to my own dental oddities and needs. I’m a person who, like most, has always felt a mild amount of anxiety during dental procedures, and a good deal of tension. What’s surprised me about my visits to Dr. Roxas has been how relaxed I’ve been through them, whether it’s been teeth cleaning or a cavity filling. Part of that’s probably just getting older and learning to relax, but a lot of it is also due to the care Dr. Roxas and his staff give to the patient’s comfort. For all procedures, they’ve frequently checked in with me to make sure I was comfortable, even in the absence of overt signs of discomfort. Not only is the entire staff friendly and professional, but the office is so down-to-earth. During my last procedure, Dr. Roxas and his assistant chatted about the dental industry, and I was pleased to hear such geekery because the conversation made clear that Dr. Roxas values quality of care over making a ton of money (i.e., schemes to give patients expensive and unnecessary care for extra profits). As a person who values passion over financial success, and as a person seeking a good work-life balance, it’s great to receive care from someone who is so patient-centered and balanced. So yes, another five-star review on Yelp for Dr. Roxas.

I was very impressed with Dr. Roxas and his staff. They were very friendly, professional, and quick to get the work done. I can’t imagine having a better, more relaxed trip to the dentist. Without going into details, I’ll say that I have been lazy over the years taking care of my teeth. On my visit, Dr. Roxas quickly identified the troubled areas, laid out what he felt the priorities for my care should be, and took the time to explain all the whys and hows of what should happen. The initial exam was quick and gentle. While it had to be obvious to a professional that I have been lax in my dental care, Dr. Roxas never once lectured or made me feel bad about neglecting my teeth over the years. He only talked about the future, and even complimented me on the healthiest parts of my mouth. He was quick to refer me to a specialist, and his office gave me all of the information I needed to set up that appointment… they even offered to call and take care of it for me! He’s certainly won my future business.

Dr. Roxas is the best. I found him on Yelp as being one of the highest rated dentists in this area. He and his staff are very polite and knowledgeable. They explain before doing anything. They made me feel relaxed and were very careful. I even forgot that I’m actually afraid of dentists. I am totally satisfied with the result. Amazing. Next time I need to see a dentist I will definitely call Dr. Rexas.

Very much a huge fan of Dr. Roxas and his team. Always personable hygienists, the doc is a funny and kind individual who makes quick work of anything that needs taken care of, and the billing is seamless. What more could you ask for in a family dental practice?!

I needed to write another review for Dr. Roxas and his staff – Last week (on Friday when the office is closed) I had an horrible tooth ache – Was almost in tears – Called Dr. Roxas emergency number. He had to go to Eugene to a children’s clinic that day, but told me he’d see if he could find someone on his staff to meet him at his office later in the day. They called me to meet them at the office at 5:30 – Ended up having to pull two teeth – I was so stressed and in pain that my blood pressure was soaring. Dr. Roxas had me stay at the office – gave me honey (I was shaking like a leaf) and helped me to calm down. My blood pressure slowly went down, but since I’d had to drive myself to the office (my husband had injured his leg and couldn’t drive) he said he didn’t want me to drive home, so he drove me home and his assistant (who was 8 months pregnant) followed us so he could get a ride back to the office. How many doctors or dentists would go that much out of their way for a patient? I am again very impressed by his compassion and that of his assistant. Thank you Dr. Roxas!

Christen H. from Troutdale, OR (Source: Yelp)

I started seeing Dr Roxas as soon as he took over this location from the dentist who previously worked at this location. That dentist was retiring and sent out a letter informing his patients that he had done an extensive search to find the best dentist possible to continue to service his patients. I think this was in about 2002 or 2003, to my best recollection.  I loved Dr Roxas and continued to see him for many years until my work took me to Vancouver in 2011. Living in Troutdale and working in Vancouver made his Portland location inconvient so I switched dentists. What a huge mistake! I recently had a dental emergency on a weekend and called my Vancouver dentist repeatedly and never received a call back. In desperation I called Dr. Roxas. He not only called me back within a minute, he remembered my teeth, my son, and gave me great advice and options for treatment. All this and he was ON VACATION with his family!!! Needless to say despite the inconvienence of the location in relation to my work, home and childcare (Vancouver also) I am never going to make the mistake of going to another dentist again. He is literally THE BEST in every conceivable way

(in a deep Southern drawl) I have always been of the opinion that dentists are like torture experts, ranking right up there with the Spanish inquisition, the witchcraft trials of Salem and the Concentration Camp testers. Dentists are solely there to provide you with shots, gouges, drilling or facial part extraction. Now, I have been through many a torture test and I believe that there might be some dentists out there who don’t always want to tear your mouth open. Dr. Jonathan Roxas must be one of them. Dr. Roxas is a laid back and caring dentist. His staff is amazing and helps to calm the tension normally found in the dentist office. Everyone is pretty calm there and easy going. He has worked with me on getting all of my fillings right and they call and remind me everytime I have an appointment or I even get a little card in the mail. I know what you’re thinking, that this sounds like every other dentists office. This office is way out of my way and causes me to take more time off work than I should, but it’s worth it. After all, as long as I don’t have Himmler hovering above me, I figure it can’t be that bad!

Norman R. from Portland, OR (Source: Yelp)

★★★★★

I had been a long-time patient of Dr Roxas’ predecessor in that office, so naturally, I was concerned when he took over the practice. My concerns evaporated after my first consultation with Dr. Roxas. In the ensuing four or five years, I have come to respect and admire his approach to dentistry. As other reviewers have mentioned, he will only recommend work that is necessary and may even try to talk you out of a procedure if he does not think that it is worthwhile. Like the other reviewers, I genuinely am impressed with the staff in his office. He has established a team of personable professionals, and I always come away completely satisfied with my experience. The office decor may be a little long in the tooth (pun intended), and a remodel is in progress, but the greatest testimonial I can offer is that I willingly drive across town from NorthWest Portland in order to be cared for by Dr. Roxas and his staff. I just hope that he doesn’t become too popular. I don’t want to have to beg for an appointment.

When I was a kid, I had the most gentle, wonderful dentist. When I graduated to adult dentists, I quickly found out how much of a scam some of them can be and how they try to upsell you on things you don’t need. Finding a good dentist is like finding a good mechanic. It’s tough. I honestly found Dr. Roxas here on Yelp. I couldn’t believe a dentist could have such high reviews. Luckily he was in my dental plan’s network. I complained about a sore tooth and he didn’t tell me I needed to remove it (trust me, I’ve seen some shady dentists tell you that you need some expensive procedures done that you don’t), he said I needed a custom night guard. I had no idea I ever needed one! Or why a custom one was so much better than a $30 one from a drugstore. My tooth pain was gone so quickly. I love going to Dr. Roxas because he’s an honest doctor, gentle with his hands, and a nice guy. His staff always verbally prepares you for things going into your mouth and lets you know what to expect. It helps calm the anxiety of seeing a dentist!

I’m afraid to write a review because i still want to be able to get in to see this dr. in the future. I was surprised by how much time he took with me. We talked about some stress that I am having and he gave me some the time to just take and he listened. I have never never been to a dentist that ever wanted to know me as a person. I think I found a person I can trust. I will have to keep going back to see how the story ends.

I’m mostly a Yelp! lurker. I read reviews but never actually write them. I’m compelled to write an amazing review for Dr. Roxas and team. Let me start out by saying that I HATE THE DENTIST. Who doesn’t? It gives me nightmares. True story. I’ve also had some REALLY bad experiences with dentists in the past. Particularly with the billing aspect. Somehow, despite being on top of making sure I understand dental coverages and having my dentist send in Pre-D’s so that I KNOW how much I’m going to have to pay, I always get an enormous bill. Midge at the front desk is an insurance billing wizard. She’s patient, understanding, and so very kind. I avoided going to the dentist for nearly 10 years because I hate it so much (and had been burned so many times). Needless to say, I’ve had a pretty hefty treatment plan that I’ve been working through over the past few years. Somehow – I END UP PAYING LESS than what is advertised. You know all of those “reasonable and customary” maximums that insurance companies love to throw around? Dr. Roxas charges the CONTRACTED price. Unlike any other dentist I’ve ever been to. Dr. Roxas is great. I feel like he’s not trying to sell me a bunch of work that I don’t really need. The hygienists are great. But what REALLY sets this practice apart from the rest is Midge. If you’ve been financially burnt in the past, go see these guys. They’ll take good care of you and make sure that you can budget accordingly. Midge will work through your treatment plan, tell you straight up what it will be out of pocket, and do it over and over and over again. Dr. Roxas – take good care of Midge. Don’t ever let her leave. Please.

I’ve been a patient for over two years, and everyone at the office has been so kind, friendly, skilled, and gentle. I highly recommend Dr. Roxas and his staff. Chenoa is the best dental hygienist you could ever hope for–very smart and knowledgeable and fabulous at her work, but also friendly and fun to talk to. Thanks to Dr Roxas and Chenoa, I don’t miss a cleaning. For a true testament, my daughter came along for my cleaning, and wants to start coming to my dentist, instead of her Disney-scale childrens’ dentist office. That says a lot!

My wife and I have both been seeing Dr. Roxas (Roh-hoss) for over a year, and we could not be happier. Our previous dentist retired, and his replacement was not to our liking. We got a recommendation for Dr. Roxas, and feel lucky to have found him! He is very personable, and takes time to see what’s going on, and explain everything to you. All the hygienists I have seen are good and very nice. The office staff is always friendly and competent. It seems like we have different insurance every time we go in due to job changes, plan changes, etc., and they always get us squared away with a smile. I can’t recommend Dr. Roxas and his team highly enough. Thanks everybody!!

I love this office. Dr. Roxas is very friendly as is all of his staff. I LOVE my hygienist, she is very knowledgeable, gentle, and explains everything. Midge, the office manager rocks, she is sooooooo friendly. I’ve never had a dentist that is so thorough, and his equipment seems to be more modern than the last dentist I had in Portland. He has found multiple cavities, which I’ve never had, but I’m also newer to Portland and blame it on the lack of fluoride, or him being extra cautious (I don’t want a root canal so I can appreciate that)! Both the hygienist and dentist explain what they are doing and explain the new technology they use and why, which I find comforting!

Jo S. from Portland, OR (Source: Yelp)

Dr. Roxas and his staff are wonderful! They seem to be actually concerned about YOUR concerns, not just simply what will bring in the most money from you. They all have a great sense of humor and are patient and fun. The office doesn’t look like much aesthetically speaking (they could probably use a remodel) but who wants a new elaborate cold building if the care is crap? Rachel is super helpful with all of your insurance questions, and that is a huge plus because the last thing you wanna do is deal with insurance companies yourself. I can’t wait until my next cleaning!!* *this statement may be a slight exaggeration

Wow. Dr. Roxas (pronounced Ro-has) and his staff are wonderful! I have never felt as well listened to, respected, and appreciated for my unique mouth situation. And I have a quite a situation. He answered all my questions and explained things to me. He made me feel comfortable and told appropriately funny jokes. The office is pretty non-descript, but they have new equipment and an all-inclusive approach to dental care. I got referred to where I needed to be referred to, supplied with supplies, and all SonicCare’d up. I highly highly recommend Dr. Roxas to anyone who wants to be respected and well taken care of at the dentist. Oooo, I’m really so happy that I have a such a great dentist.

Thank you Yelpers! Based on the recommendations I saw on here, I went with Dr. Roxas’s office when I established myself with a Portland dentist. I live nowhere near his office, but it’s pretty easy to get to and I’ve been impressed with the technology they employ and with the great personalities of everyone who works there. After a pretty gnarly dental accident several years ago, I’m pretty particular with the quality of service I get. After 3-4 visists to Dr. Roxas’s office, I think I made a great choice.

Yes, I know it’s hard to believe…another 5-star review for Dr. Roxas and staff! Again, thank you Yelpers for providing me with yet another wonderful place to visit. Upon my first visit, I was struck by how welcoming the office staff was. Then, I had to endure the x-rays. I say “endure”, because I haven’t found the procedure to be enjoyable at any dentist’s office. However, the hygienist was so sweet…so efficient, patient, and even helpful (she helped me figure out how to minimize the gag reflex with that stuff in my mouth). Like several other reviewers have said, Dr. Roxas was very straightforward about my “treatment plan”, and I didn’t feel like I was being lectured about the issues that are occurring with my teeth. He also helped to pinpoint why I may be having certain problems and how having braces when I was younger has caused some unfortunate cavities in my adult life. Like, who knew that I actually may be grinding my teeth either (from my stressful teacher job as well as lifting weights?!) He explained everything in a language that I could understand, and didn’t push treatments or “selling” things. He also didn’t seem rushed, taking the time to answer my questions and explain further. Also like a previous reviewer, I’ve had anxiety about dentist visits, too. I was also surprised by how relaxed I was at both my visits. Even cleanings stress me out. The hygienist I had for my cleaning was so sweet, gentle, and taught me so much more about oral hygiene that I ever new before. She was always checking to make sure how I was feeling, and paused often to let me breathe. Again, all without feeling “lectured”. The staff at Dr. Roxas’ office obviously all care about all aspects of a patient’s comfort. I learned that my hygienist also volunteers her time to do dental care for kids / schools who need it, and that Dr. Roxas also values working with people in need. That sealed the deal. I just had my initial visit two days ago, my cleaning today, and I’m already recommending Dr. Roxas to friends and family (not to mention writing one of my few reviews on Yelp).

A WORD FROM YOUR DOCTOR

This gentle doctor is great with patients and places an emphasis on preventative dental care for all family members. He believes in looking for the source of the your issues. Many dental issues are just symptoms and may take stages to resolve. Dr Roxas uses a network of speciality doctors that will help assist you in your treatment. Dr Roxas provides quality care for many different procedures including tooth-colored fillings, crowns, veneers, restoration of implants, and many others. First visits require a full set of current x-rays, a periodontal evaluation, and a comprehensive oral check up. This in depth exam allows you to understand your current dental state and how we can help you move forward. It takes a team and you are the most important team member.
