Dr. Melissa Maus is a rock-start dentist. I had a dental emergency (bad dentistry, by a less than expert dentist – but that’s another review) and needed help for a poorly fitting crown that was causing me intense pain. Right in the middle of a pandemic. You don’t really think about needing a dentist – the fact that they don’t have open offices, staff to make appointments, take payment, do x-rays, etc. etc. etc., that is, until you have an emergency, in a pandemic. After calling one dentist who wasn’t taking anyone new (because he didn’t have my records and didn’t know how to do all the other things I mentioned), and didn’t have much of a bedside manner either… he at least pointed me to the San Francisco Dental Association after I asked in panic, where I could go. Amazingly there were only a few dentists in San Francisco (3 at the time) who were taking new patients with dental emergencies. WHAAAAA?? One of them was Dr. Maus. I called her (on her cell). She was kind, set the appointment, sent me the forms, met me at her office, did x-rays (herself), shaved down my ill-fitting crown and thanked me for coming in. Best of all, my crown is not causing me pain and I have time to get things done right after this whole COVID19 business is done. Now that’s a dentist I want to have in my life. And will. I highly recommend a dentist who is skilled, compassionate, and is ready to serve people when they most need it – Dr. Maus. I’m a fan and now a patient.

This review is long overdue (but better late than never, right?). I have been going to Dr. Maus for over a decade. Her professionalism, demeanor, and work are outstanding and so is her staff’s. She has a very light touch, which I appreciate (I’ve had dentists who made my jaw hurt). Importantly, she takes great care in explaining all procedures, minor and major, in an extremely clear and helpful way. Going to the dentist is never fun, but with Dr. Maus, it’s actually a pleasant (I kid you not) experience in which I feel taken care of and valued. Thank you Dr. Maus, for being such a wonderful dentist and a kind and humane person.

I have gone to this office for 2 years and every service has been good. The staff are very kind, knowing we would prefer not being at the dentist! I had a molar crown that kept coming off, and Dr. Maus crafted a solution that has stayed on and feels good. I highly recommend this office.

I highly recommend Dr. Maus! I’ve been seeing Dr. Maus for twenty plus years. I’ve had numerous dental procedures done from my wisdom teeth being pulled, countless cavities filled, crowns put on, and most recently I went through the teeth straightening process of Invisalign. I can’t tell you how pleased I am!!! My teeth look fabulous! Dr. Maus has always treated me with care and compassion. She has always been very professional. I have never experienced any pain during my visits. She always looks out for my comfort. In addition, she’s very conscientious and good at what she does, ensuring that I have a great smile!

This is a great dental practice. I’ve seen Dr. Maus a few times and she’s always been wonderful. Her assistants are just as good. I’ve had one filling done and it was painless and haven’t had any issues yet. I had her replace some bonding on a couple of chipped teeth that a previous dentist butchered numerous times and it’s was leaps and bounds better than what I had before. All the office equipment is state of art as well. They send you email and text message reminders about a week before your appointment in case you need to reschedule or forgot the date. I’ve recommended a few people to this practice and each person has had the same opinion as myself.

Was new to the area and Dr. Mauss was recommended by a physician I work with.  She’s friendly, quick, intuitive to her patient’s needs, and often times does my routine cleaning herself (which I like).  Like the fact that she has an electric health record and I can always see the digital display of my teeth on the screen in front of me which empowers me to inquire about my dental health.  I have now been seeing her for several years and appreciate the visit reminders her office sends out prior to your appointment.

I had my fair share of problems with dentists: Doctors who kept postponing preventive care for years eventually resulting in a broken tooth, receptionists with antiquated billing methods that kept sending me bills 4-5 months after my appointment that my insurance should have (and did) cover, receptionists, who argued that I had to bill my insurance myself because the insurance didn’t give her another option (I caught her in the middle of her lie, since the insurance rep I happened to call told me that the receptionist just called to ask the same question and she told her otherwise),….you name it. I wanted to make sure I got a good one this time and yelp didn’t have that many reviews for dentists at that time. I remember looking at another site for dentist reviews. Long story short, I am so happy I found Dr. Maus. Everything is seamless. Her work is very thorough, quick and painless. She is very skilled with her hands. I had a chip in my front tooth that she fixed and I can’t even see or feel where the filling starts and she was so fast. I am embarrassed that I can’t remember her name, but the hygenist is also great. My dentist problems have ended. I’ve kept going to her for years even though her office is in downtown SF and I neither live or work in the city. But the Sutter garage is convenient enough and I get an early appointment each time, so I can avoid any traffic. She is a UCSF alumnus and I am not surprised. The only other good dentist experience I had was when I used to visit the student clinic at UCSF (beware, your appointment here will take a long time). I am a UCSF alumnus myself (not dentist), so maybe I am biased.

I just had my first filling ever here, and all I have to say is: who knew that needles and drills in your mouth could be so painless? I found this place through Yelp and got the special offer on the exam, and also got a cleaning, during which Dr. Maus noted what I already knew in my heart to be true: I have 3 cavities. Dr. Maus and her assistant are skilled professionals. I felt very comfortable the entire time. Not only did she find my cavities, she clearly marked them on a chart and showed me exactly what needed to be done. Also, she was sensitive to my budget (I have NO insurance) and allowed me to choose to have them done one at a time. I feel like prices here are very reasonable, compared with other dentists. The cheapest fillings Dr. Maus offers are composite resin, which are tooth colored. I’m under the impression here that she doesn’t do amalgam fillings at all, though I could be mistaken (amalgam fillings are those horrible black metal ones that look like crap). For the filling itself, it was basically totally painless. She numbed up my mouth real good with a topical analgesic before she even came near it with the needle. And also, it seemed to me that she was careful to not let me actually SEE the big freakin needle, which I thought was a nice touch. She then finished up the visit by making sure my bite was biting properly, and then I was good to go. Since then, I’ve been tonguing my newly filled tooth all day. It feels so smooth and strong! It feels like it could bite through anything! And it looks just like all my other teeth! Thank you Dr. Maus! I’ll be back as soon as my health care spending card fills up with money again! 🙂

Found this place via yelp and though my insurance. First time ever I wasnt squirming on the chair while I got my teeth cleaned and examined. Staff is super friendly and decor makes it feel less intimidating than other dentist offices.

I am so pleased that I am a patient of Dr Maus. The entire team was so pleasant and professional in their way of interacting with their new and exisiting patients. Lydia, the lead receptionist wsa so caring as I observed her way of taking genuine and sincere care of her patients. I love the fact that Dr Maus and her team took their time to go through with you of each of their procedure, making you feeling important. Best of all the examination and procedure was absoultely painless… Definitely oe of the best dental experience.
