Dr. Barker is hands-down the best dentist I’ve ever had. His attention to detail is truly amazing and he is stellar with patient care, always remembering to follow-up and check-in with his patients. He clearly explains any procedures and answers any questions you have about dental health and always makes me feel at ease when having to make difficult decisions about getting any dental work done. I don’t think I’ve ever had to wait in his office for an appointment, they are always on time and respectful of the fact that I have to get back to work quickly. I’ve also referred friends, co-workers and other contacts and everyone has had nothing but great feedback and things to say about Dr. Barker and his office. Everyone on staff in his office is super friendly, welcoming and great with all of the patients. His office is always clean and all appointments, scheduling and insurance paperwork is handled promptly and in an extremely well organized manner. I honestly only have the best things to say about Dr. Barker and the rest of his staff. I only moved to the area a few years ago and feel very fortunate to have found such a wonderful dentist right near my office.

I really liked Dr. Barker and the way he runs his office, he has a more personal authentic approach to his patients. He took the time to talk to me and understand my needs, no rushing me along. I have an enormous amount of anxiety related to the dentist, like many people. I asked my friend for a recommendation for someone who is good with high-anxiety patients and she sent me to Dr. Barker. In the past three weeks I have been in to see him for a cleaning and then to have a small cavity filled. He is incredibly caring, carefully explained everything he was doing, checked on me frequently during both procedures. His conversational distraction made the appointments go by so quickly and painlessly. Although I will never love going to the dentist, Dr. Barker made is tremendously easier and far more likely that I will go more often for my my regular cleanings.

I have had several dentists over the years and yesterday was my first visit with Dr.Barker. I went in for a regular cleaning and was a bit worried about what work needed to be done because I missed my last two cleanings. Well let me say that my experience with the Dr. Barker’s practice was amazing if not the best dentist experience I have had till this day. The moment I walked in I was attended by a welcoming receptionist and then went on to be taken care of by Laura a very attentive dental assistant. Dr. Barker himself took the time to introduce himself and walk me through all the steps of my cleaning. That has never happened at any other dentist. His bed side manner net was also impeccable by always checking in to see if I was okay. I can not recommend this office and Dr. Barker’s team enough! This dentist office is great! Saundra, the office manager, is very attentive and answers any of your questions about appointments or copays right away. If she needs to confirm with your insurance company, she makes it her top priority and gets it handled. Ruth, the dental hygienist, is so friendly and super thorough. Maybe the best cleaning I’ve ever had and explains best practices for keeping your teeth clean between appointments. Dr. Barker also explains any diagnoses and what steps are needed in a professional and pleasant manner. They aren’t pushy at all and tell you what’s needed and why. I’ve been going to Dr. Doug Barker for 5 years now while attending grad school at UCI. His staff are very friendly and helpful. I loved his previous hygienist who just retired, and am very happy to say he found a wonderful new hygienist. Dr. Barker himself is very personable and professional. I came to his practice after having a poor experience elsewhere in Irvine and receiving questionable dental advice. Dr. Barker was very straightforward with giving me a second opinion. When my family dentist retired I had a hard time finding a new dentist I could trust. After trying a few others that I didn’t feel comfortable with I found Dr. Doug Barker. He is so nice you can tell he really cares about his patients and the work that he does. He makes you feel comfortable and taken care of the whole time. I like that he is conservative with his treatment plan. During procedures he explains to you the steps and gives you breaks even lets you take a peek if you aren’t squeamish. I had a couple fillings and didn’t feel a thing! One on the front my tooth and he matched the color to my tooth enamel perfectly. I highly recommend him to everyone!

As soon as I first set foot in Dr. Barker’s office I felt welcome, and more importantly, at ease. His entire staff is welcoming and professional.
My first appointment with Dr. Barker was for a cleaning. The first cleaning is done by Dr. Barker personally so he can best assess any issues, and make recommendations for treatment to his patients accordingly.
As it turned out, it was discovered that I had a couple of areas needing attention, and a couple of weeks later, during my second meeting with Dr. Barker, all issues were very skillfully, and gently addressed.
Dr. Barker is an excellent dentist, and seems to genuinely care about the dental health of his patients. I’ve had lots of dental work done over the years, and would rate Dr. Barker as one of the very best with no reservations whatsoever. I feel very comfortable under Dr. Barkers care, and am completely satisfied.

I was referred to Dr. Barker for Invisalign by a friend of mine and I am so grateful for his excellent care! I just finished my Invisalign treatment and I am thrilled with the results. Dr. Barker also took care of a few cavities I had, my teeth cleaning, as well as whitening. He also helped with an “emergency” when my old crown cracked off and was able to fit me in right away to take care of it. He genuinely cares about his patients and it is refreshing. If you have to go to the dentist, I would definitely recommend Dr. Barker! He is super nice, very gentle and considerate and always on time. His staff is also very nice and the whole experience was really about as great as a dental visit can be! I had a cracked tooth and needed a root canal and was in extreme pain, Dr. Barker was able to see me right away, numbed my tooth for me and got me an appointment for a root canal that same afternoon! Dr. Barker’s dental office was the most positive dental experiences I’ve ever had! His assistant did a great job at taking my x-rays efficiently, then I went to the hygienist for a cleaning, I’ve never had my teeth cleaned that thorough before! She gave me a ton of education on how to care for my mouth, then Dr. Barker did an exam on me – his explanation on what I needed done in my mouth was very easy to understand, after showing me the pictures he took with an intra oral camera. (I have had four done so far), his attention to detail (his dental cleaning technique was unsurpassed) and his awareness of the fact that I need that extra care to keep my gums healthy in order to keep the teeth I have still have at the age of 60. I noticed that he even inspected my mouth for possible signs of Mouth Cancer as part of his normal check-up routine. I was pleased that he took the time to explain everything so thoroughly. A WORD FROM YOUR DOCTOR
K. Douglas Barker, DMD, is a cosmetic and general dentist at Newport Center Smile Design in Newport Beach, California. He is most passionate about implant dentistry and uses his surgical and prosthetic skill set to restore people’s smiles in a conservative and non-invasive way. At Newport Center Smile Design, he performs the majority of oral and dental implant surgeries himself, and offers Invisalign®, full mouth reconstructions, and custom veneers. Dr. Barker decided at a very young age that he wanted to be a dentist. As an orthodontic patient from the age of seven, he remembers the warm compassion he received from his orthodontist and their staff, which left a great impression on him. Today, he strives to exhibit the same compassion for his patients. Originally from Florida, Dr. Barker attended the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in zoology and participated in research on American alligators. He stayed at UF to complete his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, and he is proud to be a Florida Gator. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Barker moved to Brooklyn, New York, for a two-year general practice residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. During his residency, he became interested in cosmetic and complex prosthetic cases, including placing and restoring implants. He then went on to practice dentistry in Manhattan and Queens. Dr. Barker engages in continuing education and attends the annual Greater New York Dental Meeting in New York City. He has also been taking more advanced prosthetic courses, specifically in implants, and is a member of Spear Education, a platform that provides continuing dental education. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association. Outside the office, Dr. Barker is married to his lovely wife, Heather, and they have two children. When he’s not working, he enjoys being outdoors cycling, running, surfing, swimming, snowboarding, or wakeboarding. He also enjoys mountain biking and competes in triathlons every season. Dr. Barker stays actively involved in his community and has participated in mission trips to Honduras and the Dominican Republic to provide dental services to people in need. He has also biked across the United States with Push America, an organization that raises funds and awareness for individuals with disabilities.
